Elyza's Diary

Day 65

November 19, 2008

Dear Diary, Uggh! This weather really stinks. Not only is it really cold outside, but it's raining too. People think that living in Washington, you get used to the cold, and used to the rain. Well, I've lived here my whole life so far, and I'm still not used to it. I often wonder what it would be like to live somewhere nice and warm, like Florida.

Day 64

November 11, 2008

Dear Diary, Dad and I were goofing around with my drumset after dinner tonight. He says he wants me to teach him to play the drums. But he was just make a lot of noise and being funny. He thought it would be so easy to just bang on the drums and make music. Dad has a lot to learn!

Day 63

November 9, 2008

Dear Diary, We went shopping this weekend because I needed some new boots. My last pair still look fine, but they're a little tight. We found these light pink ones with faux fur on the tops. How cute! They go with everything too!

Day 62

November 5, 2008

Dear Diary, I heard my mom singing in the shower tonight. It was kind of funny! I just hope I don't sound like that when I sing in the shower! We're both good at playing instruments, but apparently not singing. It's not like I was planning to try out for American Idol or anything. I wish they had a show like that for people who play instruments. That would be cool!

Day 61

November 2, 2008

Dear Diary, Mom came into my class to help with our Halloween party. We decorated cookies and played games. I didn't wear my costume to school because I was afraid it would get dirty. There were a couple other girls who were Hannah Montana too. Next year I'm going to try to pick something no one else will think of.

Day 60

October 29, 2008

Dear Diary, Fall just started and I'm already sick of the cold. We have our heat on and I feel like I'm always thirsty, and my hands are so dry. Spring and summer are the best. At least Halloween is in a couple more days, that makes the cold worth it, except that you have to wear a jacket over your costume to keep warm!

Day 59

October 28, 2008

Dear Diary, Last weekend we went to the county fall festival. They best part was that the highschool marching bands were there performing. Wow! Some of those drummers were really good! I'm not sure I'd ever want to play the base drum since it's so huge, but maybe the quads, they look the most fun. I really like the sound they make. But, all I can do for now is keep practicing.

Day 58

October 22, 2008

Dear Diary, Still haven't changed my mind about not having brothers or sisters. My friend Jasmine told me in school this morning that her little sister spilled paint all over Jasmine's comforter on her bed. I definitely don't miss that! Jasmine was a little annoyed about it, but at least her mom said she can get a new comforter if the paint won't come out.

Day 57

October 21, 2008

Dear Diary, We had to do a project in school about our families. Some of the other kids in my class were so surprised to hear that I don't have any brothers or sisters. I don't usually think about it because I kind of like being the only kid in my family. I don't have to worry about a brother or sister breaking my toys, or sneaking in my room to find my diary, or anything like that. I get Mom and Dad all to myself, and that's good for me!

Day 56

October 18, 2008

Dear Diary, At Manito Park last weekend they had a huge rose garden with all kinds of blooms. There were so many different colors. Mom had the pictures printed and we picked them up today. I love the rose garden pictures the best I think. I'm going to put on of them in a frame for my dresser.

Day 55

October 16, 2008

Dear Diary, Last weekend my family drove over to Spokane. It's really beautiful over there with the mountains and the river, but it was absolutely freezing! We stayed at a hotel downtown. It was neat because the hotel is like over 100 years old and they restored it to how it used to be in the pictures from the old days. We had fun hiking in Manito Park too.

Day 54

October 11, 2008

Dear Diary, Mom came in to volunteer today and she stayed a little later so she could eat lunch with me. She surprised me with sub sandwiches from my favorite deli down the street. There are definitely good things about having Mom come into school every week. Is everyone's mom this cool? Or just mine?

Day 53

October 10, 2008

Dear Diary, Spring has the prettiest colors with all the flowers, but fall is still amazing. The trees have started changing colors now and they are the prettiest shades of reds and purples. I love purple! It would be neat if the leaves stayed colorful all year. Uggh, Mom is yelling for me from the kitchen, I better go see what she wants-

Day 52

October 4, 2008

Dear Diary, We had squash for a vegetable with dinner tonight. I think it's neat that it came from the garden Mom and I grew, however, I learned that I hate squash. It tasted a little better when I put lots of butter on it, but still. Mom says next time she'll just mix the squash in with a casserole for dinner. Great, now I'll have to be searching through my food at dinner to see what's hiding in there.

Day 51

October 2, 2008

Dear Diary, My mom has started volunteering in my class at school. It's kind of cool, but kind of odd to see her there. She helps Mr. Manzo with stuff like grading papers and decorating bulletin boards. Mom doesn't come every day, just one day a week. And that's okay with me. I may not like it if she came every day.

Day 50

September 28, 2008

Dear Diary, Well, it's Sunday, and you know what that means...another football party with Uncle Bob and Aunt Kelli. Still don't care about the football, but I can't wait to see my cousins again. I can't wait for Danica to see my room! Well, I have to go shopping with Mom now for party food. Be back later-

Day 49

September 27, 2008

Dear Diary, Did I mention how much I love my room all decorated with flowers? I figure now that it's fall and there won't be flowers much longer outside, I might as well have them inside. I think even Tuck likes my flowers. Maybe I should put some behind his aquarium for scenery. That's an idea!

Day 48

September 24, 2008

Dear Diary, I decided to make my bedroom look like a garden. So the last few days I've been coloring and cutting out flowers to hang on the walls. I think it looks pretty neat. Dad just looked and asked if I used tape or glue on the walls. Mom said I could use tape. I don't think he was too happy about that. But my room looks like spring now!

Day 47

September 22, 2008

Dear Diary, A girl in my class asked me where my name comes from because it's a little different. I was named after my grandmother, whose name was Elizabeth. My parents didn't love the long name Elizabeth, but wanted to honor her name. Elyza is a shortened version of Elizabeth.

Day 46

September 17, 2008

Dear Diary, During my drum lesson today, I played what I could remember for my teacher of that new song I'm learning. She was impressed that I've been working so hard to learn something new on my own. I told her that Mom has been helping me some. I think I've almost got it down.

Day 45

September 14, 2008

Dear Diary, Jasmine spent the night last night. This morning there was a walk-a-thon for the community center. Mom drove us over early this morning so we could do it. It wasn't too bad, walking 5 miles, but that is pretty far. Now my legs are starting to feel a little sore. I think I'm just going to loaf around the rest of the day.

Day 44

September 10, 2008

Dear Diary, I've been practicing in the afternoons on my drumset. I'm trying to learn a new song. It's fun to play along with the songs I already know, but I like to learn new ones too. It has a really good beat, but it's a little tricky. I want to learn to play it for my teacher when I have my lesson next week.

Day 43

September 7, 2008

Dear Diary, I was so hot from being outside that I drank a big glass of iced tea full of ice. I think I drank it too fast though. Ever get a headache from drinking something too cold? Ouch! I was outside with Tuck. He pretty much stayed in the same spot, munching on grass. I was the one running around the yard.

Day 42

September 5, 2008

Dear Diary, The weekend already? Not sure what's going on tomorrow, but Sunday my Aunt Kelli, Uncle Bob and cousins are coming over. Anytime the Seattle Seahawks play, somebody has a football party with a cookout. This weekend is our turn. I don't care about watching the football, I just want to see my cousins.

Day 41

September 2, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm hoping that Mr. Manzo my new teacher really is as nice as he seemed today. I know a lot of kids don't like being in his class. Mom says I have to make the best of it though. Sometimes that's hard, but I'm going to try. The best part was being able to wear my silver sandals and not get any blisters! My mom is awesome.

Day 40

August 29, 2008

Dear Diary, We went and did the last of our back to school shopping today. Mom can't resist a big sale, especially on Labor Day weekend. The mall was crowded, but I didn't mind. We found these super cute bermuda shorts with coordinating shirts in all my favorite girly colors. My silver sandals that gave me blisters will match perfect. Mom bought this liquid bandage medicine that will hopefully keep me from getting more blisters when I wear my sandals. I hope it works, I love those shoes!

Day 39

August 27, 2008

Dear Diary, Mom brought me home this Hannah Montana lunchbox. It's really cute and pink, but I was hoping to buy my lunch at school this year. Mom says no way. I'm allowed to buy lunch on Fridays but that's it. Well, at least I have a new cool lunchbox to use.

Day 38

August 26, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm so incredibly bored right now. I have nothing exciting to write about. I guess it's just one of those days. Mom said she has to go to the grocery store later. I might go with her just to get out of the house. Oh, that's definitely bored!

Day 37

August 21, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm a little worried about school starting. Today the registration packet came in the mail with the name of my teacher for this coming year. It's Mr. Manzo. I was really hoping for any teacher besides him. He has a reputation for being really strict. Supposedly last year there were two students caught passing a not in class, and Mr. Manzo taped the note on the front door of the classroom so everyone who walked by could read it. Mom says just make the best of it. I hope so.

Day 36

August 20, 2008

Dear Diary, Dad and I went to the pet store tonight and found some really cool new rocks for Tuck's aquarium. I'm always afraid he'll get bored in there with the same old stuff to crawl and swim around. I want him to be a happy turtle, so I try to find new things for his tank. Eventually I want to get a bigger tank, and maybe even have a small waterfall in it. Dad says "we'll see."

Day 35

August 15, 2008

Dear Diary, Jasmine came over and we watched the Hannah Montana marathon that was on tv. Of course we couldn't just sit and watch it quietly. We were jumping around singing and acting goofy. Maybe it was all the jellybeans we ate! What fun!

Day 34

August 10, 2008

Dear Diary, The football party was a lot of fun even though I don't like football. Mom and Dad get so serious about picking their teams. I played in the basement with my cousins and some other kids that were there. The basement is huge, so we played soccer down there. I think I ate too many football cupcakes though, my stomach was upset.

Day 33

August 7, 2008

Dear Diary, Tomorrow night we're going to my uncle's house for a draft party. My mom and dad are in some football league with a bunch of their friends and other people in our family. Every year we get together and have a party to kick off the draft. The kids end up playing in the basement while the adults have all their laptops set up for the draft. I'm not a football fan, but the party is fun. Aunt Kelli likes to make these cute little cupcakes that have footballs on them for the kids too.

Day 32

August 3, 2008

Dear Diary, Yeah! Daddy is all done putting my closet together. Mom and I went to the store and picked out these super cute canvas bags to store all my stuff in. The bags are pink with white polka dots. I think Daddy did a great job and it looks much better now. He also took the closet doors down and put a big rod across the top so Mom could hang a pink curtain across the opening.

Day 31

August 2, 2008

Dear Diary, Dad had this great idea to help organize my closet. So he's in there right now putting up all these shelves for all my stuff. I guess I'll just have to stay out of my room until he's all done. Now Mom wants all the closets done. I guess Dad will be busy for the next few weekends.

Day 30

July 28, 2008

Dear Diary, There's just one problem with my perfectly adorable new silver sandals...they're killing my feet! I have blisters on the backs of my ankles. And they're leaving red marks on my toes. I'm so disappointed. I wanted these shoes so bad, but I'm not sure how much longer I can stand to wear them. Maybe I'll just have to wear band-aids all the time.

Day 29

July 26, 2008

Dear Diary, I got them! We went to the mall today since I had enough money saved. My new silver sandals are even prettier than I thought they would be when I put them on my feet. I think I'm going to wear them every day! Thankfully Mom's feet are much bigger than mine or I'd be worried that she would snag them!

Day 28

July 23, 2008

Dear Diary, I've been saving up my allowance for these cute sandals I saw at the mall. After this week I should have enough. They are too cute! The straps are cutout flower shapes and they're all silver and sparkly. Mom said she wishes they had them in her size too.

Day 27

July 21, 2008

Dear Diary, Jasmine and I have been friends for a couple years now. She lives in my neighborhood. That's actually how we met. I was riding my bike around the neighborhood one day and there she was playing in front of her house with her brothers. And we've been friends ever since.

Day 26

July 17, 2008

Dear Diary, I found this really pretty print at the store today. Mom and I were shopping for school clothes but we decided to look around. Anyways, it's a painting of all these wildflowers in a meadow. Mom said I could get it if I really wanted to. I think it will look perfect in my room. It's all these different shades of pinks and purples.

Day 25

July 12, 2008

Dear Diary, Our garden is growing really well now that it's summer. I can't wait to see everything once it's in bloom. And I'm anxious to try some of the vegetables we planted. Mom says we planted enough to feed an army.

Day 24

July 8, 2008

Dear Diary, I had to laugh at Mom today. We were driving in the car, and she would not stop singing this song on the radio. She said it was from when she was in middle school. I wanted to tell her that the eighties called and they wanted their music back. But she looked so happy singing at the top of her lungs. I almost wish I'd known the words so I could sing along with her.

Day 23

July 7, 2008

Dear Diary, Tonight, Mom and I are going to some orchid society meeting. I'm not big on the meeting, except that they have so many beautiful orchids. All these amazing colors and types you've never seen before. That part I like. I bought an orchid at the meeting last year, but it died. This year I want to try again.

Day 22

July 5, 2008

Dear Diary, I feel kind of like a celebrity. There was a picture in the newspaper today showing the top three winners at the talent show. The reporter even said I was "a promising young talent". That's pretty cool. I hope they have another show next year.

Day 21

July 3, 2008

Dear Diary, Second place! That's not so bad is it? The big prize went to the girl with the baton twirling routine. She was pretty good. But at least I got second place. My prize was a new mp3 player, sweet! Mom and Dad were so proud of me. Dad even brought me flowers after the show.

Day 20

June 30, 2008

Dear Diary, I've been practicing the drums so much that my arms feel like wet noodles. Mom says I should just take it easy until the show Wednesday night. That's so hard to do though! But I think she's right. So now I'm hanging out with Tuck.

Day 19

June 29, 2008

Dear Diary, The talent show is only 3 days away! I've been practicing a lot more now that our family left. Mom says she thinks I'm ready for the show. They're going to have prizes this year. I heard the grand prize is a $200 gift card for the mall. Wow! How awesome would that be?

Day 18

June 26, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm kind of sad that our family reunion is over. All my relatives have gone back home. I wish they lived here all the time. Now it seems so quiet around here. I think Mom misses them too. My turtle Tuck is probably the only one glad the company is gone. All my little cousins kept poking at him and holding him!

Day 17

June 23, 2008

Dear Diary, We've been so busy with family. But I'm also trying to still practice for the talent show. It's coming up on July 2nd! Grandpa says hearing me play the drums reminds him of how my mom used to play. He's says it's just as loud as it was back then! I think he's only teasing.

Day 16

June 19, 2008

Dear Diary, Now that everyone is here, it feels like one big party. Not everybody is sleeping at our house since we don't have enough room. Some are staying with Grandpa too. But everybody comes over and we eat and play games. Today I think we might take them around the city. I wish my cousins lived here all the time!

Day 15

June 16, 2008

Dear Diary, Our family starts coming into town tomorrow. I can't wait to see all my cousins! We usually only see them once a year, so it's been a while. I'm the middle cousin. There are the twins who are in preschool, and the bigs kids who are my age and some a couple years older. It's fun how we all play together though. They're all coming from Texas and Louisiana.

Day 14

June 11, 2008

Dear Diary, Mom has been working hard to get our house ready for all the company coming. She's been trimming bushes in the yard, painting the fence, and other little projects. I don't see what the big deal is. It's not like our family hasn't seen our house before. She said someday I'll understand when I get older. Anyways, we have a bunch of family coming to visit. Kind of a family reunion thing.

Day 13

June 9, 2008

Dear Diary, When we were planting in our garden, I got stung by a wasp. I didn't even see it. I was reaching to pull out some grass and felt something sharp on the tip of my finger. Then I saw the wasp. Boy did that hurt! Mom put some paste she made out of baking soda and water on my finger. That seemed to help, but my finger still swelled up quite a bit. Next time I'll be looking before I reach my hand for anything in the garden.

Day 12

June 7, 2008

Dear Diary, It's time to start planting our vegetables in the garden. I'm not crazy about eating all of the vegetables. But it's fun to grow them. The only vegetable we grow that I like to eat is tomato. Mom and Dad love the green peppers. I've tried the peppers but just don't like them very much.

Day 11

June 4, 2008

Dear Diary, There's going to be a talent show at the community center in a few weeks. I think I might enter and play my drums. The only thing is that I'd have to use background music for the other instruments and singing. Mom says I can make it work, and she'll help me get ready. My mom knows that someday when I get to high school I want to join the marching band. I think I'm too small to carry the bass drum, but maybe I can play the quads or the snare drum. They're both smaller!

Day 10

May 30, 2008

Dear Diary, I love Harvest Lilies. When I came home from school today I saw them blooming in our front garden. They're such a dark purple color. We have tons of them in the garden. My mom and I love to grow flowers every year. Finally, things are blooming! We're thinking about even starting a vegetable garden now that it's getting so warm outside.

Day 9

May 28, 2008

Dear Diary, It's so nice outside this afternoon that I am out sitting under a big tree in our front yard. I brought Tuck outside too! He's just munching on some grass. Turtles are so funny to watch when they eat. When they chew, it looks like they're going in slow motion. When I laugh, Tuck just stops and looks at me, then goes right back to eating!

Day 8

May 25, 2008

Dear Diary, Having my grandma here has been so awesome! I only see her one or two times a year since she lives far away. We've been having fun doing girl stuff. Last night Grandma was putting curlers in her hair before bed, so I asked her to do mine too. This morning I woke up with all these big curls in my hair. It was fun.

Day 7

May 22, 2008

Dear Diary, My Grandma is coming to visit this weekend! She is flying here from California. I love her so much, even though she pinches my cheeks every time she comes. And she likes to call me her little Schnickel Fritzi. I guess that's a good thing. She loves to brush my hair while I tell her about school and my friends.

Day 6

May 20, 2008

Dear Diary, Good news! Tuck must be feeling better. I woke up in the middle of the night because I heard him moving around in his aquarium. He was chowing down on the dinner I had put in there for him. I guess he just wasn't hungry yesterday. I never have a day when I'm not hungry. My Dad says I eat them out of house and home, whatever that means.

Day 5

May 19, 2008

Dear Diary, I wonder if Tuck my turtle is getting a cold or something. He hasn't eaten all day. Usually he eats up all the food I give him. Mom says we'll see how he is tomorrow. If he's still not eating we may have to take him to the vet. Dad says maybe my practicing the drums is bothering him. I think he was just teasing.

Day 4

May 17, 2008

Dear Diary, Mom and I went to the craft store this morning. She let me get some pretty beads to make bracelets with. I love all the pinks and purples, especially the glitter beads. I think I'm going to start right now. Maybe I'll make matching bracelets for me and my mom.

Day 3

May 14, 2008

Dear Diary, I just got home from drum lessons. The first part is kind of boring. My teacher talks a lot. But then at the end of the lesson I get to pick what song I want to drum along to while she plays the keyboard. I picked a Hannah Montana song today.

Day 2

May 12, 2008

Dear Diary, Yesterday was Mother's Day. I made my mom a card with construction paper. Then I used tissue paper to make flowers to glue on it. I think she was very surprised. She said it was beautiful. I think my mom is beautiful too.

Day 1

May 11, 2008

Dear Diary, This is my first day writing in my very own diary. I picked a very pretty diary with pastel flowers all over it, and a pretty pen to match. My bedroom is my favorite place to be when i'm not playing my drums. My room has 2 pink walls and 2 purple walls. And there is a fairy garden painted around the whole room.
