Kayla's Diary
Day 156
March 20, 2010
Dear Diary, I'm so sad. I totally forgot to record the dance show I wanted to watch, and now I missed it! Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll show it again soon. There's not a lot of shows I like to watch, but I love shows about dancing or singing.
Day 155
March 12, 2010
Dear Diary, We just got the brochure for summer drama camps. I really want to do one since I didn't get to before. I think it would really be fun and help me get even better. But, there's also this really cool art camp for kids I think would be neat. There's no way my parents are going to let me do both...
Day 154
March 9, 2010
Dear Diary, Aunt Maryann's party was pretty fun. Well, except for the part where everybody was dancing and my Uncle Mike fell and broke his wrist. But, that wasn't until the end of the party. When he went to the hospital, everyone else pretty much left. My family!
Day 153
March 5, 2010
Dear Diary, Yeah for the weekend! This week felt like it was really long, so I'm happy it's over. It's my Aunt Maryann's birthday Sunday, so we're having a party for her tomorrow. Mom is already getting crazy with trying to get everything ready. I told her I'd help, but I think she likes doing it all herself.
Day 152
February 24, 2010
Dear Diary, People keep asking my friend Bella if she was named after the Twilight movie. Ummmm, that wouldn't make any sense since the movies just came out and Bella has been her name since she was born. I've always loved Bella's name. Maybe we could trade names-
Day 151
February 22, 2010
Dear Diary, It already seems like forever since we did Cinderella for the theater. I can't wait to find out what the next production is. They're supposed to know next week! I'm anxious to see if it'll be a musical or a play. I like them both, but my singing isn't quite as good. I need to practice and maybe take lessons, but my mom will freak if I ask her about lessons.
Day 150
February 17, 2010
Dear Diary, I kind of chickened out with asking my dad about moving. I finally asked him tonight while my mom was at the store. He seemed surprised that I knew about it. He said they're just thinking about moving, but nothing's for sure yet. He told me not to worry because it wouldn't be for awhile anyway. I guess that makes me feel better.
Day 149
February 14, 2010
Dear Diary, I wasn't technically eavesdropping when I heard my parents talking. I didn't mean to hear them talk about us possibly moving, but it's really bothering me. I think I'm going to ask my dad about it when he gets home.
Day 148
February 10, 2010
Dear Diary, I heard my parents talking last night about moving. I don't think they know that I heard them, but I did. Why would we move when most of our family is here? I hope we don't move, I love my friends and my school right here.
Day 147
February 7, 2010
Dear Diary, Aunt Maryann had me come over to be a mommy's helper again for my little cousin. It's fun, but I think it was easier before little Sophia could move all around the house. Now she's into everything! I can't imagine taking care of her all the time like my aunt does. I'm exhausted!
Day 146
January 28, 2010
Dear Diary, All our family that was here for the wedding had to go back. We had such a blast! Even after the wedding we were all hanging out. And of course I went shopping with my aunt and some of my cousins. I got a new jacket. It's so awesome!
Day 145
January 22, 2010
Dear Diary, I figured I better write in my diary today since tomorrow and Sunday I know I won't have time. Everything has been pretty fun so far. They had a rehearsal tonight, and I'm just so glad that this time I am not in the wedding. It's way more fun to get to go to the parties and not have to do any work, or wear an itchy dress.
Day 144
January 18, 2010
Dear Diary, One of my cousins is getting married next weekend, so that's pretty much what I'll be doing. My family is very into big wedding parties and celebrations. There's a dinner Thursday night, some party Friday night, and then the wedding on Saturday. It'll be fun to see all my family.
Day 143
January 12, 2010
Dear Diary, All people are talking about right now is some coach leaving UT to go somewhere else. My dad is all upset about it. I just want to say... who cares??? I am not a football or sport kind of girl. Now if we were talking about some major designer I like going out of business, then that's a story.
Day 142
January 8, 2010
Dear Diary, Now it's Friday, and my mom won't even let me go see my friends. She says since I wasn't responsible about cleaning my room I can't see Bella tonight like I thought I would. Now I have nothing to do!
Day 141
January 6, 2010
Dear Diary, I think my mom is about to blow up at me! She had told me to clean my room, and I kind of didn't. So when it was time for bed, and she saw me hanging out watching tv with my dad and my room was still a mess, she flipped out! Sorry Mom! I don't do it to make you mad, but cleaning my room is so not what I want to do.
Day 140
December 30, 2009
Dear Diary, I can't wait to take my new backpack to school next week. It's suede, and I love it! It's one of the "puffed" backpacks, and it's pink. Too cute! My aunt sent it to me, and that reminds me...I still have to write her a thank you card.
Day 139
December 26, 2009
Dear Diary, I only opened my presents yesterday, and my mom is already after me about writing thank you notes to our family in New York. She said I can do one each day. Well, that's still going to take me the rest of vacation! Can't I just call them and say thank you? I love talking on the phone-
Day 138
December 18, 2009
Dear Diary, I can't leave the house today. Mom says I was talking back to her, so now I'm grounded. Great, just great! How boring is that? I didn't mean to talk back, but sometimes she just makes me so mad!
Day 137
December 15, 2009
Dear Diary, Bella's going away for vacation. I'm so sad! She won't be back until the day before school starts. I have other friends to hang out with, but Bella is my bestest friend!
Day 136
December 9, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm going to the mall this weekend with some of the money I saved from watching Sophia. I need some new boots, and hope they have super cute ones! Then I might need a new outfit to match my boots, right? Oh yeah!
Day 135
December 4, 2009
Dear Diary, Now that my play is over, I feel so...so...bored! I wish we could just do one play after another. I think when you get older the other drama classes are like that. I can't wait for highschool someday!
Day 134
November 28, 2009
Dear Diary, Cinderella was a huge success! Nobody fell or missed their lines, that you could tell. It's so awesome being up on the stage with the bright lights on you. I totally forget that I'm Kayla, and get lost in my character. I think I was a great Drizella, and Daddy did too! He brought me roses after the show, how sweet!
Day 133
November 22, 2009
Dear Diary, My mom made the most unbelievable Italian sausage soup tonight, but now I'm stuffed. I think I'm too full to even practice my lines, and I really need to! Our show is in 5 days! We have a lot of rehearsals this week to get ready, and we still have to finish the scenery. So much to do!
Day 132
November 19, 2009
Dear Diary, I started helping out Aunt Maryann with little Sophia. It's fun, but it's a lot of work taking care of a toddler. Sophia is into everything, all the time! I made $10 today, so that's not bad. I'm not sure I could do it every day though, I'm exhausted!
Day 131
November 15, 2009
Dear Diary, It's so annoying! I have this thing lately, that I have to keep clearing my throat, but it still feels like it's there. Probably just allergies, but still, it's annoying. Everytime I clear my throat, people look at me like I'm trying to get their attention.
Day 130
November 7, 2009
Dear Diary, We've started rehearsing for the play. I can't believe opening night is in only 3 more weeks! We still have a long ways to go, and we have a lot of scenery to paint too. I hate painting scenery. I love to paint, but it's not as much fun when someone tells you exactly what you have to paint and where and all that.
Day 129
November 2, 2009
Dear Diary, My Aunt Maryann asked my mom if she could hire me as a "Mommy's helper" for a couple afternoons a week. I had never heard of that before. I think it means I go over to their house and play and take care of little Sophia while my Aunt is there doing work or cleaning, or whatever. The best part is, I get paid to do it, kind of like babysitting, except the mom is still there. I'll try it-
Day 128
October 28, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm still trying to figure out why it is that my brother wants to play soccer. When he's out there, he doesn't even pay attention to the game! Tonight he was chasing around fireflies. The other team scored twice when Lucas was the goalie. Needless to say I was busy watching my brother instead of studying my lines. I couldn't help it, he made me laugh!
Day 127
October 24, 2009
Dear Diary, Drizella? The wicked Stepsister? No, I did not get the lead role of Cinderella, but I guess I should be happy I got a part at all. That's what I've been telling everyone, but I'm still a little disappointed. I thought I had nailed it. I'm sure I'll get over it eventually. Besides, I have new lines to memorize.
Day 126
October 21, 2009
Dear Diary, I can't stand the suspense! I thought the results from tryouts would be posted today, but there not there yet. Our drama coach said hopefully by tomorrow. Hopefully? Is that a yes or a no?
Day 125
October 13, 2009
Dear Diary, Tryouts for Cinderella are tomorrow, and I'm so excited I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight. I really have my heart set on being Cinderella since she has the most lines and she's like the main character. I hope I get it!
Day 124
October 8, 2009
Dear Diary, I love this weather, because somedays it's already cold, and you get to wear all your super cute winter clothes. I especially love this new vest jacket. We bought it in New York. It's light blue and super adorable. It goes great with my boots too!
Day 123
October 4, 2009
Dear Diary, I made a deal with my brother Lucas. If he helps me rehearse my lines for Cinderella, then I go outside with him and practice his soccer with him. So far it seems to be working out. He needs a little help with reading the lines sometimes, but it's better than not having anyone to rehearse with.
Day 122
September 28, 2009
Dear Diary, We're doing Cinderella! I was a little surprised at first, but I think it could be a lot of fun performing, especially if I get to be Cinderella herself. I have to get the copy of the lines so I can start rehearsing, tryouts are in 2 weeks!Day 121
September 27, 2009
Dear Diary, I keep waiting for the signup to come out at the performing arts center. They haven't announced what theater production we're doing for the winter show. I'm really excited to find out what it is! I'll check again tomorrow night when I go to class.
Day 120
September 19, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm so hungry. My mom made this weird mystery meat for dinner, and I didn't really eat very much, so now I'm famished! At least my parents don't have the rule that you have to eat everything on your plate. The rule in our house is that you have to eat a little bit of each thing on your plate. That doesn't help me much now though, since I'm still hungry. I wonder if I should try for a snack?
Day 119
September 16, 2009
Dear Diary, Bella's family is gone on vacation. I asked my parents how come we can't go on vacation during the school year. They said, "because you have school." Well, hello, I already knew that. We never get to miss school for anything, and Bella's parents take her out of school every now and then for fun stuff. Daddy just talked about how school is more important. I knew he was going to say that.
Day 118
September 9, 2009
Dear Diary, School, school school. It's okay so far. I really like the new art teacher. It sounds like she'll let us be really creative with our projects, which I like. We're starting with clay. I have to figure out what I want to make-
Day 117
September 6, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm hoping I can still take drama even though soccer is starting for Lucas soon. My parents said it will depend on what my brother's soccer schedule is. I hope it's not the same day as drama. Time to go, Dad and I are going for a drive in his convertible. It's beautiful outside!
Day 116
August 30, 2009
Dear Diary, We had such a good time yesterday. Bella and her family came too, which was cool. I didn't even get to eat much since we were all busy playing. Mom put me in charge of entertaining all the little kids. It was exhausting! At least we have all the leftovers, I'm starving-
Day 115
August 26, 2009
Dear Diary, Our family is having a big end of the summer party. We do this pretty much every year. It's always a lot of fun, with all our family and friends. It's Saturday, so right now my mom is in a cleaning frenzy, getting ready for it. I have to dust the whole house. I haven't started yet, so I probably should before my mom starts yelling-
Day 114
August 18, 2009
Dear Diary, I know some people are afraid of thunderstorms, but I'm not. I love the way they sound, and how it the dark clouds make it so dark in your house. I'm not saying I want lightning to strike my house, but I just like hearing the storms. My brother Lucas is scared of thunder. He always starts crying when it storms, so my mom usually puts a cartoon on for him so he doesn't pay attention to the storm.
Day 113
August 13, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm kind of happy to be home, but kind of missing New York already. We have a lot of family here too, but I still have a lot of cousins in New York. And we don't have malls and stores like they do in New York. We did a lot of shopping there, and I think I already have all my clothes for when school starts. Oh yeah, Superstar!
Day 112
August 7, 2009
Dear Diary, Jersey Shore was a blast! The sand takes getting used to because it's really dark, but we don't have beaches in Tennessee. My cousins buried me in the sand all the way up to my neck and then were taking pictures. They wanted to bury my brother Lucas too, but he started freaking out when he couldn't move his legs and arms under the sand.
Day 111
August 4, 2009
Dear Diary, It's so awesome to finally be back in New York! I'm seeing all my cousins, and aunts and uncles. So far we've been shopping and hanging out. We're going to go visit Jersey Shore tomorrow and see some old friends at the beach. Gotta go, we're cooking out with the whole family!
Day 110
July 30, 2009
Dear Diary, I swear, the closer it gets to our vacation, the more stressed out my mom gets. I don't know what she's so stressed about. She keeps biting my head off, for nothing! It's not just me though, Mom is snapping at Dad and Lucas too. I think I'll just stay out of her way until we leave.
Day 109
July 26, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm so ready to go to New York! It feels like the days are going by so slow until we leave. Next Saturday can't get here fast enough! I just need to find something to do to keep me busy I guess, but what? I think I'll call Bella and see what she's doing, maybe she can come over.
Day 108
July 19, 2009
Dear Diary, Little Sophia came over with Aunt Maryann today. She's really fun to play with now that she can sit up and crawl. She smiles all the time. I was sad when she had to take a nap. I kept waiting for her to wake up. Oh yeah, and the feeding part wasn't fun either. Peas in a jar? Gross!
Day 107
July 17, 2009
Dear Diary, So far art camp is pretty cool. We actually go to different classes all day. That means we get to paint, draw, work with clay, and do other mediums every day. You really don't have a chance to get bored since we're switching classes all day. And we get to be creative! I'm painting an owl right now-
Day 106
July 12, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm really happy art camp starts tomorrow. Bella and I are going to ride together, and hopefully we'll be in the same group. I mean we're in the same grade and everything. I hope we do clay and painting, and maybe 3-D art.
Day 105
July 5, 2009
Dear Diary, I was scared to ask my parents about the trip to New York, in case they said no, but the waiting was killing me! So I asked....and we're going in August! I'm so excited to see all my cousins and grandparents, everybody! The only bad part is that we have to drive instead of fly. That will take forever, but if it means we get to go, then I'll deal with it.Day 104
June 29, 2009
Dear Diary, We're planning another block party to celebrate summer. All the mom's are getting together planning it, so I'm not sure exactly what's going on yet. Whatever it is, I know it will be fun. I'm still waiting to hear if we're going to New York for vacation or not. I really hope so!
Day 103
June 24, 2009
Dear Diary, My mom is going gaga about some famous person who died, someone named Michael Jackson. I had never heard of him before, but I guess he was some famous singer when she was a kid. Mom just showed me a music video for one of his songs, and it was kind of neat seeing something she used to love so much, but not my kind of music exactly! She said he's an "icon", whatever that is-
Day 102
June 16, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm so sad that drama classes are over now that it's summer. It seems like we just started. Maybe I can take them again when they start in the fall. Bella asked me if I want to do an art camp at the rec center. I think I'll ask my dad. He'll say yes before Mom will.
Day 101
June 14, 2009
Dear Diary, There was a story in the newspaper about a bear stealing meat right off the grill when people were grilling at a campground nearby. Bears are smart. I guess they went inside their cabin while their dinner was cooking, and when they came back, the steaks were gone. There are a lot of bears up here in the mountains. I haven't seen one in awhile, but we've seen them lots of times before.
Day 100
June 8, 2009
Dear Diary, Last night we went to play miniature golf with my Aunt Maryann and Uncle Tony. It was kind of fun even though I didn't do very good. On one hole I had to hit the golf ball 7 times! Uncle Tony beat everybody by a lot. I think it was mostly luck-
Day 99
June 5, 2009
Dear Diary, Its been raining so much lately. My parents say I shouldn't complain because we need the rain. Yeah but, it ruined our class picnic this week. I guess there's always next time. I mean next year! Time to go to Lucas' soccer game, see ya-
Day 98
May 30, 2009
Dear Diary, Yesterday was the big meeting with my teacher and my mom and dad. I wasn't allowed to be in there for it, but they told me about it on the way home. My teacher says I'm a pretty good student, but that she doesn't think I'm working up to my potential. She wants me to put in more effort, and try to follow the routine better. See, I don't like routine, it's boring!
Day 97
May 28, 2009
Dear Diary, Finally, finally! I have my bathroom back. Actually, I do still have to share it with my little brother, but that's much better than sharing it with the entire family. My parents have finished their bathroom. It looks really cool. I asked Dad if my bathroom was next, and he just laughed. I think that means no.
Day 96
May 20, 2009
Dear Diary, Our end of the year parent-teacher conferences are coming up soon, and I'm just wanting to hear that everything is good. I always get a little worried because I know sometimes I have a hard time following directions and doing what the rest of the class is doing. Sometimes I just feel like doing my own thing. We'll see what happens next week-
Day 95
May 14, 2009
Dear Diary, How was I supposed to know that my mom would be upset? I was watching a show and didn't want it to change channels to record something new, so I cancelled it, and kept watching my show. Then this morning I barely made it into the kitchen before my mom was harassing me about what did I do with the tv last night? I said I was sorry, but I'm not sure it helped.
Day 94
May 10, 2009
Dear Diary, Have I mentioned that we're all sharing one bathroom while my parents have theirs remodeled? Well, we're still sharing it, and I'm so over it! Dad promises they'll be done next week. I'll believe it when I see it. It looks really pretty so far, but it's taking them forever. I wish they would do our bathroom next.
Day 93
May 5, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm so tired. I had a hard time falling asleep last night after drama class. It's so exciting! I keep playing what we practiced over and over in my head trying to see what I can do different. It makes it very hard to fall asleep when your head is buzzing around like that. I promised Bella I would call her after school, so I better go-
Day 92
April 28, 2009
Dear Diary, I need to find some old birthday cards. Bella and I like to pretend we work in a restaurant, and we use the cards as menus. It's so much fun! We don't use real food or anything yet, but that might be fun to try, if my mom will let us.
Day 91
April 24, 2009
Dear Diary, Drama class was really tough yesterday. We had to do improv. That means we had to make up our lines and actions as we went based on what our teachers in the audience said. I talk really well, and am usually very quick, but it was really hard! I liked it, but it was hard.
Day 90
April 18, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm hiding in the den hoping to stay out of my mom's way. She's on a war-path! See, their bathroom still isn't finished getting remodeled, and now she's upset that she has to wait for something to be special ordered. It's going to be at least 2 weeks before they can get working on the bathroom again. That means we all get to keep sharing that one itty bitty bathroom!
Day 89
April 14, 2009
Dear Diary, $2000! That's how much they told my dad it's going to cost to fix his car. I am so glad I don't have to pay that! Dad said he may just have to live with the scratches for a while. I hope not. He gets this sad look on his face everytime he walks through the garage and sees his car. And Dad hasn't talked about us going for a drive since it happened.
Day 88
April 11, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm not sure I've ever seen my dad so upset! He came home from the store this afternoon and someone had keyed his covertible, both sides all along the car! Dad said someone must have done it while he was inside the store. What would make someone want to do something terrible like that? I feel bad for my dad, he works so hard on that car. I'm not sure what to say to make him feel any better...
Day 87
April 4, 2009
Dear Diary, It was fun playing with Sophia the last few days, but babies are a lot of work! All the bottles and feeding, nap schedules. I'm wiped, and I didn't even take care of her by myself! I helped my mom with Sophia. I think I'm going to just relax now-
Day 86
March 31, 2009
Dear Diary, My favorite little cousin is coming to stay with us for three days starting tonight. We're babysitting Sophia while Aunt Maryann and Uncle Tony go on vacation. I told my mom that Sophia could sleep in my room, but she had a different idea. Instead, Lucas and I are sharing my room, and Sophia gets to sleep in Lucas' room. Not exactly what I had in mind, but as long as he stays out of my stuff, I'll be alright.
Day 85
March 25, 2009
Dear Diary, I had the best day today! I got back my math test, and I got a B+! And today was also my first day of drama class at the performing art center. It was really neat! Today we just did some icebreaker activities to get to know everybody, and our way around the arts center. So far, so good-
Day 84
March 19, 2009
Dear Diary, I told my mom that I didn't want to do the music club anymore, and she was really cool about it. She said she was surprised because she knows how much I love to sing. But when I told her why, I think she understood. So for now, it's back to singing in front of the mirror with my hairbrush!
Day 83
March 15, 2009
Dear Diary, I think I'm kind of over the music club at school. I love to sing and all, but our club is boring. We sing these boring songs, and the only time we get to perform is when our school has some kind of open house or something. Maybe I can find another way to keep singing-
Day 82
March 6, 2009
Dear Diary, I know Daddy meant well, but he just doesn't get it. When I told him about Bella going iceskating without me tomorrow, his answer was for me to invite someone else and go with them tomorrow. That would be so cheesy and not cool to show up where I know Bella is going to be even though I wasn't invited. I know it's a public place and all, but no thanks Dad, that would be lame.
Day 81
March 4, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm disappointed. My best friend Bella invited some other girl from our class to go iceskating with her Saturday, but not me. I know I'm not Bella's only friend, but I wanted to go too. Bella said it wasn't her idea, it was her mom's. That's supposed to make me feel better I guess.
Day 80
February 26, 2009
Dear Diary, Lucas must have been in my room while I was at school. There is crayon on my wall. And not just anywhere on my wall, but all over the mural I painted. What a stinker! Wait till he comes home from the store with my dad. Oooh, is he going to get it!
Day 79
February 25, 2009
Dear Diary, Our bathroom is getting really crowded in the morning. My parents' bathroom is still a disaster since they're remodeling in there. That means all four of us are sharing one little bathroom. Like it wasn't bad enough just having to share with my little brother before. Now there's always someone knocking on the door when I'm taking a shower or getting ready for school. Uggh!
Day 78
February 17, 2009
Dear Diary, Man, my cousins in New York are off all week this week for midwinter break. How lucky! We don't have a break until spring, sometime in April. I'm still hoping we can go visit them in New York for my spring break. My parents are still saying, "we'll see."
Day 77
February 15, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm tired of shopping. I never thought I'd say that but it's true. It's only because my parents took us tile shopping all weekend. This bathroom remodeling project has taken over our family lately. Then today we waited around all afternoon because one of the workers was supposed to come pour cement in the shower. Well, he never even showed up! Uggh...
Day 76
February 7, 2009
Dear Diary, Bella can't stay the night tonight. She can't even come over at all since she has the flu. Now I'm stuck at home with no one to play with. Even my little brother Lucas has a friend over to play with. I guess I'll just start a new painting. At least that's something I like to do at home.
Day 75
February 6, 2009
Dear Diary, We're stuck at home this weekend because my parents say they need to work on their taxes. Oh yeah, so why do Lucas and I have to suffer too? Maybe they'll at least let me invite Bella to come over. Then that wouldn't be so bad. Maybe she can even spend the night tomorrow night. That would be even better!
Day 74
January 28, 2009
Dear Diary, Dad and I went for a drive after school in his convertible. It was cool. Just the two of us and no little brother. Dad knows sometimes I like to just hang out with him. We just drove through the mountains. Too cold to have the top down, but that's okay.
Day 73
January 25, 2009
Dear Diary, Ugh-Mom and Dad dragged us to some boring home show today. They wanted to get ideas for their bathroom remodel. Did I mention I was bored? The only good thing was some guy demonstrating how to use this fancy blender to make healthy icecream. I never would have guessed icecram made with spinach and fruit juice, but it was awesome. He called it Shrek icecream.
Day 72
January 20, 2009
Dear Diary, I can hardly believe it! Mom said okay! BUT, I have to keep my grades up and stay out of trouble. I'm going to work really hard to make sure I get to stay in the drama classes. It doesn't start until March, which seems like forever away right now, but I can handle it. I'm going to go call Bella. She's going to be so excited!
Day 71
January 18, 2009
Dear Diary, I decided to ask Dad about the drama classes since he's more likely to say yes than my mom is. Besides, she's busy dealing with the bathroom remodel. He didn't say no, but he didn't say yes. Dad's going to talk to mom about it. Please, please, please let her say yes!
Day 70
January 10, 2009
Dear Diary, Guess what? I just found out that they're going to offer spring drama lessons at the performing arts center this spring! They've never done that before, it's always in the summer. And I'm hoping since I didn't get to do acting summer camp that maybe my parents will let me do it. It's only 2 days a week after school. I'm nervous to ask, but you never know if you don't ask, right?
Day 69
January 6, 2009
Dear Diary, When I came home from school today one of our neighbors was talking with my mom. I guess he's a contractor or something and she wants to get one of the bathrooms redone. I'm not sure Dad knows about it yet, but Mom has a way of talking Dad into things he didn't even know he wanted. I wish it could be the bathroom Lucas and I share.
Day 68
December 31, 2008
Dear Diary, Lucas felt so bad about breaking my bracelet, that he offered to give me his brand new "Kung Fu Panda" dvd movie. It was very nice of him to offer, but I know he loves that movie, and it's still not the same as my bracelet. Instead I told him I would watch it with him, and so we did. It was really pretty funny. That panda cracks me up!
Day 67
December 23, 2008
Dear Diary, I am so mad at my little brother Lucas right now. I went into my room to put on my brand new bracelet that my aunt and uncle just gave me. I couldn't find it at first, and then I saw it on the floor. It's broken! I don't know what Lucas did to it, or why he was even in my room, but it's ruined! Mom said maybe we can take it to get it fixed. I hope so, that's the first piece of nice jewelry I've ever had!
Day 66
December 19, 2008
Dear Diary, We celebrated early with my Aunt and Uncle who are going to Texas for the holidays. They're taking little Sophia to meet the rest of her family. It gets so loud in our house when everyone is here, but we always have a good time. I got this really beautiful blue stone bracelet from Aunt Maryann and Uncle Tony. I absolutely love it!
Day 65
December 17, 2008
Dear Diary, Okay, I am still totally unhappy that we're not going to New York for vacation, but I understand. And my friend Bella just told me that her family isn't flying to Alabama to see their family over the holidays either since her parents' business isn't doing so good right now. I'm trying to think of all the things I'll have time to do during vacation. I can do more painting and singing of course. It'll be okay.
Day 64
December 14, 2008
Dear Diary, I hate when it feels like things are just not going my way. Lately its been one thing after another. Daddy just told us that we're not going to New York for winter vacation. This is probably the first year we haven't gone. I can't believe it. But when I asked him why not, he said we just can't afford it this year. He said maybe we can go next summer. That's soooo far away.
Day 63
December 8, 2008
Dear Diary, Music club is starting to annoy me lately. At first I really it, but now it just seems like we sing the same boring old songs. I wish Mrs. Shapiro would let us sing something newer. We're getting ready for our winter concert. Mom says just give it a chance, don't give up so soon. I know she's probably right, but I love to sing, and this is just not as much fun as I thought it would be.
Day 62
November 26, 2008
Dear Diary, Thanksgiving dinner at our house is always interesting. Since we are half Puerto Rican and half Italian, we have foods from both on Thanksgiving. Mom always makes the lasagne, antipasti and usually stuffed shells. Dad always does the turkey, fried plantains and coconut custard for dessert. There's always way too much food, but then again, we are a big family. All the aunts and uncles and cousins will be here too. I can't wait!
Day 61
November 19, 2008
Dear Diary, My birthday is coming up fast! Mom said I can have a karaoke party with my friends. At first I wasn't sure, but I think it will be awesome! I love to sing, and so do most of my friends. We already have the game system, now all we need is the game and a microphone. Daddy said he'd take me shopping for it this weekend. And that's just for my friend party. Then I also get to have a family party. We always have two parties because my family is so huge! More parties is more fun for me!
Day 60
November 11, 2008
Dear Diary, Lucas, my little brother, is playing soccer. Two nights a week we have to go watch him play. It's so boring! I usually bring some books or paper and pencils so I can draw. I know I can't stay home by myself, but I would much rather be at home than sitting on a blanket, on the ground, in the cold.
Day 59
November 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom has been nagging me about my hair. She said if I don't start taking better care of it, she's going to make me get it cut. What?!?!?! It's my own hair, so what if sometimes I forget to brush it? It's not like you can tell or anything, especially if I just put it up in a band. Sometimes Mom drives me nuts.
Day 58
November 8, 2008
Dear Diary, My birthday is coming soon! It's December 3rd. Mom asked me if I wanted to make a wish list for my birthday in case anyone in our family wants to get me a present. I think that's a good idea since I'm kind of picky, especially about clothes! I think I might ask for some new paint supplies too. And we have to start planning my party!
Day 57
November 5, 2008
Dear Diary, Aunt Maryann came over with Sophia today. She wanted to show us Sophia's new portrait pictures. How cute! Aunt Maryann let me pick which one I wanted for my room. I picked the one where Sophia is wearing a dress and holding a big pink flower. What a cutie! She's getting so big now that pretty soon she'll be crawling. I can't wait!
Day 56
October 31, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, it's Halloween. My nose is still a little stuffy, but at least I don't feel worse now. I can still hang out with my friends for Halloween. We're all going to go trick or treating at Bella's house. Hopefully we'll get lots of candy! The peanut ones with chocolate are my favorite.
Day 55
October 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I don't feel so good. My throat is sore and my nose is a little stuffy. I keep hoping it's allergies or something, but I think I'm getting sick. Lucas was sick a few days ago so it wouldn't really surprise me. I don't want to be sick for Halloween! I'm going to ask my mom if I can have some hot water with honey. That always makes my throat feel better.
Day 54
October 23, 2008
Dear Diary, Last night went pretty good for our first show. I think a couple kids forgot the words in a few songs, but I don't think anybody noticed. Mrs. Shapiro our music teacher said we did great, and that our next performance will be for the Thanksgiving festival. That's really not far away, so we better get busy!
Day 53
October 22, 2008
Dear Diary, Tonight is Literacy Night at school. Our music club will be having our first show! We've been working hard after school to learn our songs. I love to practice in my bedroom while I'm dancing in front of my mirror. My hairbrush is my favorite microphone!
Day 52
October 19, 2008
Dear Diary, Being in my room so much the other day wasn't so bad. I rearranged my whole room. Now my bed and dresser are on opposite walls. Now I have a better view of the mural I painted from my bed. I like it! As for the junk...I just hid that under my bed-
Day 51
October 17, 2008
Dear Diary, My little brother Lucas is in so much trouble. He colored all over the top of Mom's new washing machine with a marker. He said he thought it was like an eraser board. The only problem is that it didn't come off! Mom was really upset. I'm staying in my room for as long as I can.
Day 50
October 12, 2008
Dear Diary, I just got sent to my room from the dinner table. Why? I have no idea. I must have said something because my mom gave me that look and then said I was excused. I don't even remember what I said! Isn't that strange how sometimes you say something, and ten seconds later you can't even remember what it was? Mom has said that I've been a little mouthy lately. I've been trying really hard to have a good attitude, but sometimes it's hard!
Day 49
October 7, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom and Dad have been worried about the economy lately, whatever that means. It has something to do with money. Mom said things cost more and jobs aren't paying more. So now they're not sure if we're going to New York for winter vacation. We've been going every year for as long as I can remember. Please, please, please!
Day 48
October 5, 2008
Dear Diary, Girls can be so cruel. There are a couple girls in my class who gang up on everybody else. I don't know why they do it. They were picking on this girl who sits next to me in class. I felt bad for her because she looked like she was going to cry. I told them to leave her alone. I think they were surprised that someone stood up for her.
Day 47
October 2, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom paid me to watch my little brother this afternoon. She was still at home, but had some work she needed to get done on the computer. You know what I learned? It's really hard work taking care of a baby! Lucas has been starting to walk, and now he's into everything! He was fun to play with, but kept me busy. I had to keep making sure he didn't put small things in his mouth. I don't know how Mom does this everyday-
Day 46
September 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I cannot believe it, Bella cut off her hair! She said it was getting too hard to take care of. I know it's only hair and it grows back, but still. I was very surprised she did it. She said it feels weird to have short hair after having long hair ever since she was little. Her hair still looks awesome.
Day 45
September 27, 2008
Dear Diary, My friend Bella wants me to come over today. Bella and I have been friends for a couple of years. We met in school. I'm so jealous of her hair. She has this wavy brown hair, lucky! My hair is long, but it just kind of hangs there. I guess you get what you get.
Day 44
September 26, 2008
Dear Diary, My parents have always had a rule about not locking our bedroom doors. But Lucas is driving me nuts! Every time I go into my room, he's right behind me. And if I'm not home, then he's in my room going through my things, and ruining my stuff. I know he doesn't do it to be mean, but still. It's very frustrating!
Day 43
September 22, 2008
Dear Diary, My whole family was over at Aunt Maryann's house yesterday. It wasn't anybody's birthday or anything, my family just likes parties. I played almost the whole time with baby Sophia. She's starting to roll over now. What a cutie!
Day 42
September 20, 2008
Dear Diary, The best part about the weekends is that pretty much I can do what I want. In school there's always a schedule to follow and rules to obey. At home I still have to listen to my parents, but as long as my chores are done, they let me do my own thing. That doesn't mean I can go crazy or anything, but at least there's no schedule to follow. I think they know that I need my own space.
Day 41
September 17, 2008
Dear Diary, Daddy came home early from work today and took me out for a cruise in his convertible, just the two of us We haven't done that in a while. Sometimes we just drive along without even talking, just listening to the radio and the wind. We like to go out a ways where there aren't any lights, just empty roads.
Day 40
September 12, 2008
Dear Diary, Yesterday afternoon was the first meeting of the new music club that's starting at school. I love singing and can't wait to see what music we'll be singing first. There's a fall school night coming up in October that will be our first performance. Today we just talked about what the club will do, and got to know each other. And of course there are always rules.
Day 39
September 9, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm not sure why, but I did not sleep well last night. I feel exhausted today. And now I just want to take a nap, but I can't. I have plenty of homework to do. Maybe I'll just go to bed a little early tonight. I can't stop yawning!
Day 38
September 7, 2008
Dear Diary, We started working on a really neat project in art today. I love working with clay. The cool part was that the teacher said we could make whatever we wanted out of the clay. I wish every teacher would do that. I guess it's hard to let kids be creative in math, but I just like when teachers give more choices about what I can do in school.
Day 37
September 3, 2008
Dear Diary, I was a little disappointed to find out that I missed seeing my little Sophia today. I guess Aunt Maryann came over with her while I was at school. Mom did say she saw the mural I painted in my room and Aunt Maryann loved it! I just wish I could have seen them. Oh well, hopefully next time.
Day 36
August 31, 2008
Dear Diary, My foot is so sore on the bottom. My brother Lucas left some of his toys on the floor in the kitchen. I thought I had stepped over all of them and I must have missed seeing one. I stepped right on it with the ball of my foot. It hurt so bad. That was yesterday, and it still hurts to walk today. I wish he would learn to pick up his stuff.
Day 35
August 30, 2008
Dear Diary, The block party rocked! We had so much fun, and got to stay out till it was way dark. Mom won second place for her baking. I didn't win the dance contest, but that's okay, I had fun. There was even this elderly man in his electric scooter "dancing" all around clapping his hands. He's so friendly to everybody. I can't remember his name, but he always says hi to everybody in our neighborhood when he seems them.
Day 34
August 27, 2008
Dear Diary, I just found out that our school is starting a music club. I don't know a lot about it yet, but I guess it's going to be a bunch of kids that perform at school functions and other events. I can't wait for school to start so I can find out more. That's only a few more days away. My mom said my brother Lucas is going to miss me once I'm gone at school all day.
Day 33
August 21, 2008
Dear Diary, My dad just found out he has a meeting for work tomorrow night, so he won't be able to go to the block party. He sounded disappointed. Mom said at least the three of us can still go. She's been baking like crazy for the bake-off contest. I think her brownies are the best!
Day 32
August 19, 2008
Dear Diary, Our neighborhood is having an end of summer block party on Friday night. It's kind of a tradition. They have a dj to play music and lots of games and food. I always love when they have the dance contest. Last year I came in second place and won a gift certificate for the mall!
Day 31
August 16, 2008
Dear Diary, One of my cousins from New York sent me another box of clothes for school. Some of the outfits are kind of funky, which I love! Of course I love wearing my jeans the best. Not that you can wear jeans very much in the summer, but pretty soon. Anyways, I better go call Melanie to say thank you for all the awesome clothes she sent!
Day 30
August 13, 2008
Dear Diary, My stomach won't stop growling. Our house smells good enough to eat because Mom is out there baking brownies right now. I love brownies! She said we can have one after they cool off a little bit. Last time we had brownies I didn't wait to let it cool off and I ended up burning my tongue. Not fun.
Day 29
August 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Lucas is driving me nuts today! He must be bored or something. He keeps coming into my room asking me stupid questions. Then when I had the radio on and was practicing singing in front of the mirror I saw him behind me, imitating me. Okay, that one made me laugh! He looked so serious mouthing the words to a song he doesn't even know. Little brothers!
Day 28
August 4, 2008
Dear Diary, School clothes shopping should be fun. It is as long as I go with Daddy. When Mom takes me we end up getting in an argument. She wants to pick out my clothes and her taste isn't the same as mine. But when I go with Daddy, he pretty much lets me pick my own clothes, as long as they're appropriate.
Day 27
August 1, 2008
Dear Diary, School will be starting soon. This year my parents pushed for me to get into an advanced class. They think maybe I won't get bored with school if I'm challenged. The thing I like about this class is that supposedly they do a lot of creative projects. We'll see.
Day 26
July 29, 2008
Dear Diary, We get to babysit my little niece Sophia today. My Aunt Maryann has some appointments she has to go to. I can't wait to see Sophia. Every time I see her she changes and gets bigger too. How do babies grow so fast? Lucas doesn't understand what all the fuss is about, "it's just another baby", he says. Yes, we have had a lot of babies in our big family and I love them all!
Day 25
July 25, 2008
Dear Diary, I thought I was going to have a heart attack today! I brought in the towels from the back porch that we had left hanging out to dry. Well, after setting them on the counter, I started folding them. When I picked up the last towel, the same little tree frog friend I had seen the other day was sitting on the counter! I swear he was smiling at me! I jumped and started screaming for my mom. She came running in and laughed at me, but she didn't want to touch him to take him outside either. So we put a plastic bucket over him to keep him in the same spot until Daddy came home. Then he got to carry him outside.
Day 24
July 23, 2008
Dear Diary, This morning when I came out to have breakfast there was a little friend on the window. I shouldn't say little though. He was actually a very big tree frog. But he was kind of cute. Then my little brother Lucas saw him and thought it would be funny to bang on the window. Why do boys have to do things like that? The poor little frog wasn't hurting anybody, just hanging out.
Day 23
July 21, 2008
Dear Diary, There's this dance show on tv that I just love to watch. I move the table in our family room so I have room to dance whenever it's on. The dancers are so amazing! Someday I hope I can be that good too. I try to follow the moves they do, but a lot of their routines are very complicated. They've probably been studying dance forever.
Day 22
July 16, 2008
Dear Diary, We were outside tonight while Daddy was washing his car. I think I have a hundred mosquito bites on my arms and legs. I must be sweet! But it was fun. We were spraying each other with the hose. And Daddy was trying hard to look mad, but he kept laughing.
Day 21
July 14, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm finally done! My mural is just how I wanted it to look. And tonight Daddy did a big unveiling of it for the rest of the family. He tied a sash across my doorway. Then he gave a big speech about all my hard work before he cut it with the scissors. It was sweet, but very funny. Now I have this wavy, cool looking piano across one whole wall with music notes that look like they're falling from the sky. I'm really happy with it.
Day 20
July 10, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm so jealous. My mom is going out with a bunch of her girlfriends to celebrate someone's birthday. They're going to some fancy Italian restaurant. I wish I could go too. But instead I'm home with the boys, and we're just having mac and cheese. What a bummer.
Day 19
July 7, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, now that the holiday weekend is over, back to painting my mural. By the end of the day I somehow have paint in my hair, on my face and then some. My brother just laughs when he sees me. I think I might be done by the end of the week. Let's hope so. I can't wait to see it when it's finished.
Day 18
July 5, 2008
Dear Diary, We had a big family party last night at my Aunt and Uncle's house. It was a lot of fun, but I'm so tired today. The kids in our neighborhood were setting off fireworks till way past midnight. And they were running up and down the street banging pots and pans with metal spoons. How strange.
Day 17
July 4, 2008
Dear Diary, This mural project is quite a bit more work than I thought it would be. But I want it to look way cool, so I'm taking my time. Every night my Daddy comes in to see my progress. He gives lots of encouragement, which makes me feel better. I know I can do it, it's just doing it.
Day 16
June 30, 2008
Dear Diary, Now that Mom and Dad have seen my sketch, they think it's pretty super! Mom's giving me all kinds of instructions about how not to spill the paint, not to wash the brushes in my sink, and so on. I think she's nervous to just let me do it. Dad and I are going to the hardware store tomorrow to get the supplies I need. Then I'll be all set!
Day 15
June 27, 2008
Dear Diary, Finally I got to see my new little niece! Her name is Sophia and she's such a cutie. I was a little nervous at first to hold her. She seems so fragile. But it was pretty neat, and my Aunt Maryann said I was doing fine. Maybe when she gets older I'll be able to babysit her. I can teach her how to dance and sing, and paint, all kinds of things.
Day 14
June 25, 2008
Dear Diary, I've got it! I figured out what I want my mural to be. I'm working on a sketch of it on paper first. But the idea I have in my head is to paint a musical theme. Like with music notes and a keyboard flowing on the wall. I'm still working out the details, but I think I'm getting there!
Day 13
June 20, 2008
Dear Diary, I really wish I could have gone to summer camp. I know my parents said maybe next year, but still. So what I've started doing instead is working on my painting. I think I'm going to do a mural on one of my bedroom walls. Mom says if I do it on paper first so she can see what it will look like then she can say yes. It sounds like a really fun project, because I can make it however I want. I just have to think of an idea first!
Day 12
June 16, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, our coconut cake was the best! At least that's what Daddy and Grandma and Grandpa said. At first I wasn't sure I'd like it. After the cake was done cooking, we poured a whole bowl of coconut milk and some other ingredients on the top. But it turned out awesome! We had a really nice dinner for Father's Day. Daddy grilled ribeye steaks for all of us. We like to grill a lot in the summer.
Day 11
June 15, 2008
Dear Diary, My Daddy is the best daddy! So for Father's Day, I'm making him a cake. A coconut one. He loves to eat sweets. But first Mom says we have a find a recipe. I guess we better hurry since today's the day.
Day 10
June 12, 2008
Dear Diary, Everybody is so busy today except me. Mom and Dad are working on some project in the garage. Even my brother is busy playing with his friends. I wish I had something to do. My parents have a rule. If you say you're bored outloud, then they give you a chore to do. That would be even worse then being bored I think.
Day 9
June 10, 2008
Dear Diary, I love, love, love my cousins in New York! They sent me a huge box of all these really cool clothes. I can't wait to try them all on and model for my family. It's like a fashion show just for me! My mom would never buy me awesome clothes like these. But my cousins are young and understand what it's like being a girl.
Day 8
June 6, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, here I am. I got sent to my room after dinner. No tv, no phone, no nothing. Mom said that's what happens when you don't do your chores when you're supposed to. I hate cleaning my room and taking out the garbage. Chores are boring. And it's my room anyway, who cares if it's messy but me?
Day 7
June 3, 2008
Dear Diary, I cannot believe that tomorrow is finally our last day of school! That's the good news. The bad news is that my mom said I'm not allowed to go to drama camp this summer. She says I'm too young now, but maybe next summer. That stinks! At least I'll get to spend a lot of time with my new baby cousin this summer. That should be fun now that we're finally allowed to touch him.
Day 6
May 23, 2008
Dear Diary, I am so happy it is Friday. My dad said that we will go to a baseball game and even get to eat some popcorn. My mom is going to visit her sister, my aunt Maryann, because she just had a baby and we are not allowed to touch it yet.
Day 5
May 19, 2008
Dear Diary, Today at school we had to run a mile. It is 4 huge laps around the field. The PE teachers do NOT let you walk at all. I am really not that into running. I think it is kind of boring. But, I really love to dance and sing and act. I am hoping that my mom lets me go to a drama camp this summer.
Day 4
May 15, 2008
Dear Diary, Well...I got in trouble again today. I've been trying to be really good, but sometimes I just can't sit still in that classroom. Here's what happened. Everyone was sitting in the circle on the carpet, and we were supposed to be watching the teacher show us something on the board about math...boring!!! Well, I saw this paperclip on the carpet, and started messing around with it, and I ACCIDENTALLY flicked it at this mean kid. So, the teacher got mad, and wrote a note home to my mom and dad. Now I am grounded!
Day 3
May 12, 2008
Dear Diary, We had the best time yesterday! It was Mother's Day and all my family went to this huge strawberry festival! It was so much fun and we even got to go on a hayride! My dad won me a huge teddy bear at the carnival games and even my brother won something playing basketball. The best part...we all ate tons of strawberry shortcake! yummy!!
Day 2
May 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Dontcha just love Fridays? They are my favorite day because the weekend is here and I get to stay up late and have fun with all my cousins. My family is huge and we are half Italian and half Puerto Rican. Everyone is loud and happy and we are always having parties! This is just fantastic because I love parties!!
Day 1
May 5, 2008
Dear Diary, Today is my brother's birthday, and my grandma brought me a little present too. She brought me this cool new journal so I can keep track of my life. I don't really know what she means, because my mom keeps track of my life. But I will write some fun things in here.
