Kayla's Diary

Day 60

November 11, 2008

Dear Diary, Lucas, my little brother, is playing soccer. Two nights a week we have to go watch him play. It's so boring! I usually bring some books or paper and pencils so I can draw. I know I can't stay home by myself, but I would much rather be at home than sitting on a blanket, on the ground, in the cold.

Day 59

November 9, 2008

Dear Diary, Mom has been nagging me about my hair. She said if I don't start taking better care of it, she's going to make me get it cut. What?!?!?! It's my own hair, so what if sometimes I forget to brush it? It's not like you can tell or anything, especially if I just put it up in a band. Sometimes Mom drives me nuts.

Day 58

November 8, 2008

Dear Diary, My birthday is coming soon! It's December 3rd. Mom asked me if I wanted to make a wish list for my birthday in case anyone in our family wants to get me a present. I think that's a good idea since I'm kind of picky, especially about clothes! I think I might ask for some new paint supplies too. And we have to start planning my party!

Day 57

November 5, 2008

Dear Diary, Aunt Maryann came over with Sophia today. She wanted to show us Sophia's new portrait pictures. How cute! Aunt Maryann let me pick which one I wanted for my room. I picked the one where Sophia is wearing a dress and holding a big pink flower. What a cutie! She's getting so big now that pretty soon she'll be crawling. I can't wait!

Day 56

October 31, 2008

Dear Diary, Well, it's Halloween. My nose is still a little stuffy, but at least I don't feel worse now. I can still hang out with my friends for Halloween. We're all going to go trick or treating at Bella's house. Hopefully we'll get lots of candy! The peanut ones with chocolate are my favorite.

Day 55

October 29, 2008

Dear Diary, I don't feel so good. My throat is sore and my nose is a little stuffy. I keep hoping it's allergies or something, but I think I'm getting sick. Lucas was sick a few days ago so it wouldn't really surprise me. I don't want to be sick for Halloween! I'm going to ask my mom if I can have some hot water with honey. That always makes my throat feel better.

Day 54

October 23, 2008

Dear Diary, Last night went pretty good for our first show. I think a couple kids forgot the words in a few songs, but I don't think anybody noticed. Mrs. Shapiro our music teacher said we did great, and that our next performance will be for the Thanksgiving festival. That's really not far away, so we better get busy!

Day 53

October 22, 2008

Dear Diary, Tonight is Literacy Night at school. Our music club will be having our first show! We've been working hard after school to learn our songs. I love to practice in my bedroom while I'm dancing in front of my mirror. My hairbrush is my favorite microphone!

Day 52

October 19, 2008

Dear Diary, Being in my room so much the other day wasn't so bad. I rearranged my whole room. Now my bed and dresser are on opposite walls. Now I have a better view of the mural I painted from my bed. I like it! As for the junk...I just hid that under my bed-

Day 51

October 17, 2008

Dear Diary, My little brother Lucas is in so much trouble. He colored all over the top of Mom's new washing machine with a marker. He said he thought it was like an eraser board. The only problem is that it didn't come off! Mom was really upset. I'm staying in my room for as long as I can.

Day 50

October 12, 2008

Dear Diary, I just got sent to my room from the dinner table. Why? I have no idea. I must have said something because my mom gave me that look and then said I was excused. I don't even remember what I said! Isn't that strange how sometimes you say something, and ten seconds later you can't even remember what it was? Mom has said that I've been a little mouthy lately. I've been trying really hard to have a good attitude, but sometimes it's hard!

Day 49

October 7, 2008

Dear Diary, Mom and Dad have been worried about the economy lately, whatever that means. It has something to do with money. Mom said things cost more and jobs aren't paying more. So now they're not sure if we're going to New York for winter vacation. We've been going every year for as long as I can remember. Please, please, please!

Day 48

October 5, 2008

Dear Diary, Girls can be so cruel. There are a couple girls in my class who gang up on everybody else. I don't know why they do it. They were picking on this girl who sits next to me in class. I felt bad for her because she looked like she was going to cry. I told them to leave her alone. I think they were surprised that someone stood up for her.

Day 47

October 2, 2008

Dear Diary, Mom paid me to watch my little brother this afternoon. She was still at home, but had some work she needed to get done on the computer. You know what I learned? It's really hard work taking care of a baby! Lucas has been starting to walk, and now he's into everything! He was fun to play with, but kept me busy. I had to keep making sure he didn't put small things in his mouth. I don't know how Mom does this everyday-

Day 46

September 29, 2008

Dear Diary, I cannot believe it, Bella cut off her hair! She said it was getting too hard to take care of. I know it's only hair and it grows back, but still. I was very surprised she did it. She said it feels weird to have short hair after having long hair ever since she was little. Her hair still looks awesome.

Day 45

September 27, 2008

Dear Diary, My friend Bella wants me to come over today. Bella and I have been friends for a couple of years. We met in school. I'm so jealous of her hair. She has this wavy brown hair, lucky! My hair is long, but it just kind of hangs there. I guess you get what you get.

Day 44

September 26, 2008

Dear Diary, My parents have always had a rule about not locking our bedroom doors. But Lucas is driving me nuts! Every time I go into my room, he's right behind me. And if I'm not home, then he's in my room going through my things, and ruining my stuff. I know he doesn't do it to be mean, but still. It's very frustrating!

Day 43

September 22, 2008

Dear Diary, My whole family was over at Aunt Maryann's house yesterday. It wasn't anybody's birthday or anything, my family just likes parties. I played almost the whole time with baby Sophia. She's starting to roll over now. What a cutie!

Day 42

September 20, 2008

Dear Diary, The best part about the weekends is that pretty much I can do what I want. In school there's always a schedule to follow and rules to obey. At home I still have to listen to my parents, but as long as my chores are done, they let me do my own thing. That doesn't mean I can go crazy or anything, but at least there's no schedule to follow. I think they know that I need my own space.

Day 41

September 17, 2008

Dear Diary, Daddy came home early from work today and took me out for a cruise in his convertible, just the two of us We haven't done that in a while. Sometimes we just drive along without even talking, just listening to the radio and the wind. We like to go out a ways where there aren't any lights, just empty roads.

Day 40

September 12, 2008

Dear Diary, Yesterday afternoon was the first meeting of the new music club that's starting at school. I love singing and can't wait to see what music we'll be singing first. There's a fall school night coming up in October that will be our first performance. Today we just talked about what the club will do, and got to know each other. And of course there are always rules.

Day 39

September 9, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm not sure why, but I did not sleep well last night. I feel exhausted today. And now I just want to take a nap, but I can't. I have plenty of homework to do. Maybe I'll just go to bed a little early tonight. I can't stop yawning!

Day 38

September 7, 2008

Dear Diary, We started working on a really neat project in art today. I love working with clay. The cool part was that the teacher said we could make whatever we wanted out of the clay. I wish every teacher would do that. I guess it's hard to let kids be creative in math, but I just like when teachers give more choices about what I can do in school.

Day 37

September 3, 2008

Dear Diary, I was a little disappointed to find out that I missed seeing my little Sophia today. I guess Aunt Maryann came over with her while I was at school. Mom did say she saw the mural I painted in my room and Aunt Maryann loved it! I just wish I could have seen them. Oh well, hopefully next time.

Day 36

August 31, 2008

Dear Diary, My foot is so sore on the bottom. My brother Lucas left some of his toys on the floor in the kitchen. I thought I had stepped over all of them and I must have missed seeing one. I stepped right on it with the ball of my foot. It hurt so bad. That was yesterday, and it still hurts to walk today. I wish he would learn to pick up his stuff.

Day 35

August 30, 2008

Dear Diary, The block party rocked! We had so much fun, and got to stay out till it was way dark. Mom won second place for her baking. I didn't win the dance contest, but that's okay, I had fun. There was even this elderly man in his electric scooter "dancing" all around clapping his hands. He's so friendly to everybody. I can't remember his name, but he always says hi to everybody in our neighborhood when he seems them.

Day 34

August 27, 2008

Dear Diary, I just found out that our school is starting a music club. I don't know a lot about it yet, but I guess it's going to be a bunch of kids that perform at school functions and other events. I can't wait for school to start so I can find out more. That's only a few more days away. My mom said my brother Lucas is going to miss me once I'm gone at school all day.

Day 33

August 21, 2008

Dear Diary, My dad just found out he has a meeting for work tomorrow night, so he won't be able to go to the block party. He sounded disappointed. Mom said at least the three of us can still go. She's been baking like crazy for the bake-off contest. I think her brownies are the best!

Day 32

August 19, 2008

Dear Diary, Our neighborhood is having an end of summer block party on Friday night. It's kind of a tradition. They have a dj to play music and lots of games and food. I always love when they have the dance contest. Last year I came in second place and won a gift certificate for the mall!

Day 31

August 16, 2008

Dear Diary, One of my cousins from New York sent me another box of clothes for school. Some of the outfits are kind of funky, which I love! Of course I love wearing my jeans the best. Not that you can wear jeans very much in the summer, but pretty soon. Anyways, I better go call Melanie to say thank you for all the awesome clothes she sent!

Day 30

August 13, 2008

Dear Diary, My stomach won't stop growling. Our house smells good enough to eat because Mom is out there baking brownies right now. I love brownies! She said we can have one after they cool off a little bit. Last time we had brownies I didn't wait to let it cool off and I ended up burning my tongue. Not fun.

Day 29

August 9, 2008

Dear Diary, Lucas is driving me nuts today! He must be bored or something. He keeps coming into my room asking me stupid questions. Then when I had the radio on and was practicing singing in front of the mirror I saw him behind me, imitating me. Okay, that one made me laugh! He looked so serious mouthing the words to a song he doesn't even know. Little brothers!

Day 28

August 4, 2008

Dear Diary, School clothes shopping should be fun. It is as long as I go with Daddy. When Mom takes me we end up getting in an argument. She wants to pick out my clothes and her taste isn't the same as mine. But when I go with Daddy, he pretty much lets me pick my own clothes, as long as they're appropriate.

Day 27

August 1, 2008

Dear Diary, School will be starting soon. This year my parents pushed for me to get into an advanced class. They think maybe I won't get bored with school if I'm challenged. The thing I like about this class is that supposedly they do a lot of creative projects. We'll see.

Day 26

July 29, 2008

Dear Diary, We get to babysit my little niece Sophia today. My Aunt Maryann has some appointments she has to go to. I can't wait to see Sophia. Every time I see her she changes and gets bigger too. How do babies grow so fast? Lucas doesn't understand what all the fuss is about, "it's just another baby", he says. Yes, we have had a lot of babies in our big family and I love them all!

Day 25

July 25, 2008

Dear Diary, I thought I was going to have a heart attack today! I brought in the towels from the back porch that we had left hanging out to dry. Well, after setting them on the counter, I started folding them. When I picked up the last towel, the same little tree frog friend I had seen the other day was sitting on the counter! I swear he was smiling at me! I jumped and started screaming for my mom. She came running in and laughed at me, but she didn't want to touch him to take him outside either. So we put a plastic bucket over him to keep him in the same spot until Daddy came home. Then he got to carry him outside.

Day 24

July 23, 2008

Dear Diary, This morning when I came out to have breakfast there was a little friend on the window. I shouldn't say little though. He was actually a very big tree frog. But he was kind of cute. Then my little brother Lucas saw him and thought it would be funny to bang on the window. Why do boys have to do things like that? The poor little frog wasn't hurting anybody, just hanging out.

Day 23

July 21, 2008

Dear Diary, There's this dance show on tv that I just love to watch. I move the table in our family room so I have room to dance whenever it's on. The dancers are so amazing! Someday I hope I can be that good too. I try to follow the moves they do, but a lot of their routines are very complicated. They've probably been studying dance forever.

Day 22

July 16, 2008

Dear Diary, We were outside tonight while Daddy was washing his car. I think I have a hundred mosquito bites on my arms and legs. I must be sweet! But it was fun. We were spraying each other with the hose. And Daddy was trying hard to look mad, but he kept laughing.

Day 21

July 14, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm finally done! My mural is just how I wanted it to look. And tonight Daddy did a big unveiling of it for the rest of the family. He tied a sash across my doorway. Then he gave a big speech about all my hard work before he cut it with the scissors. It was sweet, but very funny. Now I have this wavy, cool looking piano across one whole wall with music notes that look like they're falling from the sky. I'm really happy with it.

Day 20

July 10, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm so jealous. My mom is going out with a bunch of her girlfriends to celebrate someone's birthday. They're going to some fancy Italian restaurant. I wish I could go too. But instead I'm home with the boys, and we're just having mac and cheese. What a bummer.

Day 19

July 7, 2008

Dear Diary, Well, now that the holiday weekend is over, back to painting my mural. By the end of the day I somehow have paint in my hair, on my face and then some. My brother just laughs when he sees me. I think I might be done by the end of the week. Let's hope so. I can't wait to see it when it's finished.

Day 18

July 5, 2008

Dear Diary, We had a big family party last night at my Aunt and Uncle's house. It was a lot of fun, but I'm so tired today. The kids in our neighborhood were setting off fireworks till way past midnight. And they were running up and down the street banging pots and pans with metal spoons. How strange.

Day 17

July 4, 2008

Dear Diary, This mural project is quite a bit more work than I thought it would be. But I want it to look way cool, so I'm taking my time. Every night my Daddy comes in to see my progress. He gives lots of encouragement, which makes me feel better. I know I can do it, it's just doing it.

Day 16

June 30, 2008

Dear Diary, Now that Mom and Dad have seen my sketch, they think it's pretty super! Mom's giving me all kinds of instructions about how not to spill the paint, not to wash the brushes in my sink, and so on. I think she's nervous to just let me do it. Dad and I are going to the hardware store tomorrow to get the supplies I need. Then I'll be all set!

Day 15

June 27, 2008

Dear Diary, Finally I got to see my new little niece! Her name is Sophia and she's such a cutie. I was a little nervous at first to hold her. She seems so fragile. But it was pretty neat, and my Aunt Maryann said I was doing fine. Maybe when she gets older I'll be able to babysit her. I can teach her how to dance and sing, and paint, all kinds of things.

Day 14

June 25, 2008

Dear Diary, I've got it! I figured out what I want my mural to be. I'm working on a sketch of it on paper first. But the idea I have in my head is to paint a musical theme. Like with music notes and a keyboard flowing on the wall. I'm still working out the details, but I think I'm getting there!

Day 13

June 20, 2008

Dear Diary, I really wish I could have gone to summer camp. I know my parents said maybe next year, but still. So what I've started doing instead is working on my painting. I think I'm going to do a mural on one of my bedroom walls. Mom says if I do it on paper first so she can see what it will look like then she can say yes. It sounds like a really fun project, because I can make it however I want. I just have to think of an idea first!

Day 12

June 16, 2008

Dear Diary, Well, our coconut cake was the best! At least that's what Daddy and Grandma and Grandpa said. At first I wasn't sure I'd like it. After the cake was done cooking, we poured a whole bowl of coconut milk and some other ingredients on the top. But it turned out awesome! We had a really nice dinner for Father's Day. Daddy grilled ribeye steaks for all of us. We like to grill a lot in the summer.

Day 11

June 15, 2008

Dear Diary, My Daddy is the best daddy! So for Father's Day, I'm making him a cake. A coconut one. He loves to eat sweets. But first Mom says we have a find a recipe. I guess we better hurry since today's the day.

Day 10

June 12, 2008

Dear Diary, Everybody is so busy today except me. Mom and Dad are working on some project in the garage. Even my brother is busy playing with his friends. I wish I had something to do. My parents have a rule. If you say you're bored outloud, then they give you a chore to do. That would be even worse then being bored I think.

Day 9

June 10, 2008

Dear Diary, I love, love, love my cousins in New York! They sent me a huge box of all these really cool clothes. I can't wait to try them all on and model for my family. It's like a fashion show just for me! My mom would never buy me awesome clothes like these. But my cousins are young and understand what it's like being a girl.

Day 8

June 6, 2008

Dear Diary, Well, here I am. I got sent to my room after dinner. No tv, no phone, no nothing. Mom said that's what happens when you don't do your chores when you're supposed to. I hate cleaning my room and taking out the garbage. Chores are boring. And it's my room anyway, who cares if it's messy but me?

Day 7

June 3, 2008

Dear Diary, I cannot believe that tomorrow is finally our last day of school! That's the good news. The bad news is that my mom said I'm not allowed to go to drama camp this summer. She says I'm too young now, but maybe next summer. That stinks! At least I'll get to spend a lot of time with my new baby cousin this summer. That should be fun now that we're finally allowed to touch him.

Day 6

May 23, 2008

Dear Diary, I am so happy it is Friday. My dad said that we will go to a baseball game and even get to eat some popcorn. My mom is going to visit her sister, my aunt Maryann, because she just had a baby and we are not allowed to touch it yet.

Day 5

May 19, 2008

Dear Diary, Today at school we had to run a mile. It is 4 huge laps around the field. The PE teachers do NOT let you walk at all. I am really not that into running. I think it is kind of boring. But, I really love to dance and sing and act. I am hoping that my mom lets me go to a drama camp this summer.

Day 4

May 15, 2008

Dear Diary, Well...I got in trouble again today. I've been trying to be really good, but sometimes I just can't sit still in that classroom. Here's what happened. Everyone was sitting in the circle on the carpet, and we were supposed to be watching the teacher show us something on the board about math...boring!!! Well, I saw this paperclip on the carpet, and started messing around with it, and I ACCIDENTALLY flicked it at this mean kid. So, the teacher got mad, and wrote a note home to my mom and dad. Now I am grounded!

Day 3

May 12, 2008

Dear Diary, We had the best time yesterday! It was Mother's Day and all my family went to this huge strawberry festival! It was so much fun and we even got to go on a hayride! My dad won me a huge teddy bear at the carnival games and even my brother won something playing basketball. The best part...we all ate tons of strawberry shortcake! yummy!!

Day 2

May 9, 2008

Dear Diary, Dontcha just love Fridays? They are my favorite day because the weekend is here and I get to stay up late and have fun with all my cousins. My family is huge and we are half Italian and half Puerto Rican. Everyone is loud and happy and we are always having parties! This is just fantastic because I love parties!!

Day 1

May 5, 2008

Dear Diary, Today is my brother's birthday, and my grandma brought me a little present too. She brought me this cool new journal so I can keep track of my life. I don't really know what she means, because my mom keeps track of my life. But I will write some fun things in here.
