Faith's Diary
Day 68
November 14, 2008
Dear Diary, Uncle Josh took Ben and me to a fun center yesterday. I think the go carts were my favorite. The video games were okay, that's Ben's favorite thing. I guess I'd rather be doing something, you know, moving, than just sitting there. I sometimes have a really hard time sitting still, like in school, or a restaurant. I just don't want to stay in one spot.
Day 67
November 13, 2008
Dear Diary, I went over to Megan's house today so we could play with her puppy Sugar. Sometimes I wish we had a puppy, or a cat, or something. We have no pets at all! Whenever I ask Mom and Dad they just say "no way!" I would take care of a pet if we had one. I'd walk it and feed it and everything.
Day 66
November 10, 2008
Dear Diary, I was right about dinner the other night. We went out to some Chinese buffet restaurant. It was okay, but I mostly ate the egg rolls and a bunch of fortune cookies. I may be fearless about sports and playing, but not when it comes to food I guess.
Day 65
November 8, 2008
Dear Diary, Today is my cousin Savannah's tenth birthday. We're going over to their place to hang out for a while, and then we're all going out to dinner. We got her a gift card to the mall since her favorite thing to do is shop for clothes. I'm wondering where we're going to dinner. Our family likes to go out for hamburgers and steak. Their family likes to eat sushi and Chinese food, so we'll see.
Day 64
November 5, 2008
Dear Diary, Now that Halloween is over I don't have anything exciting to write about. Nothing big is going on at school. Same old stuff at home. Maybe tomorrow will be a more exciting day, you never know.
Day 63
November 1, 2008
Dear Diary, Last night was a lot of fun, but I felt bad for Uncle Josh. His contacts were bothering his eyes, so right before we went out trick or treating, he put some eyedrops my dad uses in his eyes. Well, after about ten minutes, Uncle Josh's eyes were all red and puffy and looked all weird. He must have been allergic to something in the drops. He just told everybody it was part of his costume-he was dressed up like a pirate. Not sure what red, puffy eyes have to do with being a pirate, but nobody questioned it.
Day 62
October 30, 2008
Dear Diary, Yeah! Tomorrow is Halloween, and Uncle Josh is coming over like he does every year to go trick or treating with us. Every year he wears a costume. I keep waiting for him to say he's too old to dress up, but every year he comes over all dressed up. It's fun! Megan is coming over too with her puppy Sugar. She said she has a costume for Sugar too. I wonder what it will be? A cat?
Day 61
October 27, 2008
Dear Diary, Kids can be so rude sometimes. When Mom came to my class today for Career Day, some kids were asking her gross questions about the surgeries. I thought she handled it really well though. She didn't act mad or anything. Maybe next year I should ask my dad to do Career Day instead. What can you say gross about a power company?
Day 60
October 25, 2008
Dear Diary, Monday is career day. My mom is going to come to my school to talk to classes about being a surgical nurse. I just hope kids are nice to her. I think it's awesome that my mom is a nurse and gets to help save people's lives and make them feel better. I'm not saying I want to be a nurse, but it's cool that she is.
Day 59
October 22, 2008
Dear Diary, I can't believe my brother is almost 15, and that he'll be able to start driving soon! He won't be old enough to drive by himself, only with Mom or Dad in the car. That's going to be strange. Ben's birthday is next week, and he said he doesn't even care about a party, all he wants to do is get his learner's permit. But, he has to pass the written test first.
Day 58
October 21, 2008
Dear Diary, I love Tuesdays at school because we get to eat lunch outside. Usually we eat at the picnic tables outside the cafeteria. As long as it's not too hot or cold, it's fun. Much better than being in the boring old cafeteria. Mrs. Musselman even eats with us out there. She's a really cool teacher.
Day 57
October 16, 2008
Dear Diary, My friend Megan got a new puppy. He's a cute little collie named Sugar. Kind of a strange name for a dog, but Megan picked it. If you lay down on the ground, Sugar will lick all over your face! Sometimes I wish we had a dog, but Mom and Dad always say no because Ben is allergic to dogs.
Day 56
October 12, 2008
Dear Diary, Lately Ben has started listening to some rock music. The thing that's annoying is when I can hear it through my bedroom wall. Usually Mom yells for him to turn it down. Hello?!?!?! It makes it hard for me to even listen to my own music in my room! Right now I feel like I can't even hear myself think-
Day 55
October 9, 2008
Dear Diary, I was surprised to come home and see Uncle Josh was here. He said his classes were done early, so he thought he would come over. I bet he wanted to have dinner. Dad says Uncle Josh always finds a reason to visit near dinner time. After dinner we went outside and I showed my uncle some of the skateboard moves I've been practicing. I think he was impressed.
Day 54
October 4, 2008
Dear Diary, I got a letter today. The charity that I sent half of the money I found actually wrote me back. They said how much they appreciated my donation, and that made me feel really good! I'm thinking about doing that now with all the money I get from allowance, birthdays, etc. I can keep some of it for myself and donate the rest. I like that idea.
Day 53
October 1, 2008
Dear Diary, Ben is driving me nuts, or at least his stuffy nose is. He refuses to use a tissue and blow his nose, so all afternoon I've been listening to him sniffling again and again. It's kind of annoying. I tried telling him it would be easier to blow his nose, but you can't tell a big brother anything, can you?
Day 52
September 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I had a dream last night that we went on a safari for vacation. We were in Africa and you could almost walk right up to the animals. It was really amazing! Then of course as soon as we got near the lions, I woke up. I wish my family could go on a real safari, but I don't think that would happen. Mom doesn't like the wilderness.
Day 51
September 26, 2008
Dear Diary, Friday! I love Fridays because that means I have the whole weekend to be outside riding my bike and skating. Megan's company is gone now, so she's coming over tomorrow to stay the night. I can't wait, we're going to have so much fun! Megan doesn't skateboard, but she loves to rollerblade.
Day 50
September 22, 2008
Dear Diary, I got back my vocabulary test today and I got an 'A'. I only missed one on the whole test! Now it's time to start on this week's list of words. Tonight I have to write sentences for each vocabulary word. It shouldn't be too bad, but I may need some help for the word 'incomplete'. Off to do homework I go!
Day 49
September 20, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm bored. I thought Megan was going to come over today to rollerblade, but she can't. She has family in town this weekend. I could go rollerblading by myself, but it's always more fun with a friend. If Uncle Josh was here I bet he'd go with me. Maybe I'll go see if any of the other kids on my street want to skate.
Day 48
September 18, 2008
Dear Diary, Okay, why did I miss Ben again last weekend? Sometimes I wish I had a sister instead. Usually he's pretty cool and we can do stuff together. But sometimes I want to look at him and say "huh?" Ben thought it would be funny to put cicada skins on my bed, spelling out my name. Except he must have run out of the insects, because it only spelled "Fait". What a goober!
Day 47
September 13, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom really surprised me today. She was supposed to work. I was disappointed she wasn't going to come biking with Dad and me, but I know she has an odd work schedule. Hospitals never close. Anyways, Mom switched with another nurse she works with and so she came with us! It felt different not having Ben there but the three of us had a lot of fun on a new trail we'd never ridden before. It was a great day!
Day 46
September 12, 2008
Dear Diary, Ben is going camping for the weekend with his best friend's family. It's going to be so quiet around here. Dad said maybe we can find a new trail to go biking on. That would be cool! I wonder if my mom will come too...
Day 45
September 8, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm glad this weekend is over. It seems like all it did was rain all weekend from that tropical storm in the Atlantic. Not much fun when my favorite place to be is outside. Hopefully the field won't be too wet today at school so we can have p.e. outside. We've been learning to play soccer.
Day 44
September 5, 2008
Dear Diary, Now that school has started it feels like we were never on summer vacation. Sure the work is a little harder every year you get older, but really, it's the same routine. The only thing I wish they had in school is a class for skateboarding, or rollerblading, or maybe even bike riding. Guess not. Those are fun things I just get to do after school, and after all my homework!
Day 43
September 3, 2008
Dear Diary, I feel really bad for the people of Louisiana and all the trouble that hurricane has caused. I was thinking my dad might have to go down their with his team from the power company. Dad said that since he just got back from Florida that they're sending a different team. These hurricanes are crazy, and now there's one that might be headed our way named Hanna.
Day 42
August 30, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm sad to see Uncle Josh leave already, but I am so glad that Dad is back home. Uncle Josh said he'll try to come visit after class sometime next week. Uncle Josh taught me a couple cool new moves on my skateboard while he was here. He used to skate all the time when he was a kid. Now that Dad is home we can go back to our normal routine.
Day 41
August 27, 2008
Dear Diary, Uncle Josh rules! He makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever, and he loves to play video games with Ben and me. Mom says it's okay as long as we're not playing video games all day. That's fine with me since I like to be outside a lot. Uncle Josh is a college student. He is studying to be a pediatrician. I think he will make a great doctor someday since he loves being around kids.
Day 40
August 25, 2008
Dear Diary, My dad's team at the power company did end up getting called late last night. The tropical storm in Florida left a lot of people without power even though it wasn't an actual hurricane. So he's on his way to Florida to help get the power back on. He left before I even got up this morning. Mom said he shouldn't be gone more than a few days, but since she has to work, my Uncle Josh is on his way over to stay with Ben and me. I'm so excited! Did I mention that he is my favorite uncle?
Day 39
August 24, 2008
Dear Diary, How my brother can eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches every day is beyond me. I would think that would get boring. I like peanut butter and jelly too, but I also like turkey and ham, even salami. Dad says it's healthier for me to eat a variety of foods, so I don't eat the same things all the time. All this talk about sandwiches is making me hungry, it must be almost lunchtime.
Day 37
August 17, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom and Dad are trying to figure out who can come stay with Ben and me. You see, my mom has to work all week. And now Dad just found out that he is on standby to go down to Florida. He works for the power company, and after Hurricane Fay makes landfall, they may send him down with a team to help out. I think that would be kind of exciting to see what happens after a storm, and to be a part of helping people who need it. Maybe Uncle Josh can come stay with us. That would be so awesome, he's my favorite uncle.
Day 36
August 13, 2008
Dear Diary, Ouch! Apparently I did not put on enough sunscreen at the spray park on Monday. My arms, legs, everything is dark red. That night I could hardly go to sleep I hurt so bad. Mom ended up rubbing aloe all over me while I just layed on my bed. That helped.
Day 35
August 11, 2008
Dear Diary, This afternoon we went to a sprayground park not too far away. Usually it's meant for little kids, but we didn't care. Megan and I were out there running around just like the little kids. Anything is worth trying to stay cool since it's so hot outside. I'll be happy when summer is over and it cools down a little bit. Hopefully I didn't get sunburned. My skin feels pretty warm right now.
Day 34
August 7, 2008
Dear Diary, When we went to the store I had a really hard time deciding what to spend my ten dollars on. Mom said the money must have been "burning a hole" in my pocket. I ended up buying this really cute Hello Kit stationary set they had. I love Hello Kitty!
Day 33
August 5, 2008
Dear Diary, I feel bad that someone lost their twenty dollars, but the store said no one claimed it. So now it's mine. I've decided to give half of it to charity since it wasn't really my money to begin with. But with the other ten dollars I'm going to buy something at the store.
Day 32
August 2, 2008
Dear Diary, I keep thinking about what I should do with the twenty dollars if I get to keep it. Twenty dollars is a lot of allowance money! I think I might spend it, but not sure on what yet. I could buy a new cd, or maybe some new wheels for my rollerblades. I just don't know.
Day 31
July 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I went to the store tonight with my dad. While we were there I found twenty dollars on the ground by the cashier. I asked if I could keep it, but Dad said I had to turn it in. At the customer service desk they said if no one claims it by the end of the week than it's mine. If I lost twenty dollars I would want it back.
Day 30
July 25, 2008
Dear Diary, Ben got his cast off today, and we went out to celebrate. We went out to some steak place where you can throw your peanut shells on the floor. Too bad we can't do that at home too. Ben is so happy his cast is off. He said his arm is a little itchy and it looks a little skinny, but he's better.
Day 29
July 21, 2008
Dear Diary, Dad hung a big tire swing from one of the big oak trees in our backyard. The rope is so long that you can swing really really high. Megan and I were out there taking turns swinging on it, trying to see who could swing the highest. I think I went higher.
Day 28
July 19, 2008
Dear Diary, I can hardly believe that summer is almost over! We only have a few more weeks until school starts again. At least then it'll be fall soon and it won't be so hot outside when I want to ride my bike or rollerskate. Ben gets his cast off soon and then he'll be back to riding on the trails with me. Megan and I ride the trails together sometimes, but she'd rather rollerskate.
Day 27
July 16, 2008
Dear Diary, Dad, Ben and I went last weekend to Fort Sumter. It was pretty neat even though it was really really hot outside. We even got to go on the ferry. Ben was most impressed by the cannons. I've always been kind of interested in Civil War history. Hopefully next time we come over to the beach Mom can come too.
Day 26
July 12, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom is on call again this weekend. And being on call means she always gets called to come work. Dad says this weekend he wants to take Ben and I to Fort Sumter in Charleston. We've never been before. It's a fort from the Civil War. Sounds like it might be kind of neat.
Day 25
July 8, 2008
Dear Diary, Someday when I grow up, I want to try out for one of those reality shows. You know, the one where they put a group of people on a deserted island. Then each week they have contests to see who stays and who goes home. I think I would be really good at that. I'm not really afraid of much. Even the bugs wouldn't bother me. Maybe someday.
Day 24
July 6, 2008
Dear Diary, I love when there's no school the next day! Today is Sunday, and instead of doing homework and going to be early, I get to sleepover at Megan's house. That's what's so great about summer. There's really no schedule to follow. I guess they figure kids need a break too.
Day 23
July 5, 2008
Dear Diary, Megan did come over yesterday to watch the fireworks with my family. We even baked chocolate chip cookies for everybody. They were a little melted because it was so hot outside, but they still tasted delicious. Dad and Ben put on quite a show with their fireworks. Ben had a little trouble with his cast getting in the way, but at least he wasn't whining about it.
Day 22
July 2, 2008
Dear Diary, Is there such a thing as too many fireworks? Dad and Ben have been out shopping, buying every kind of firework imaginable. Noisey ones that pop, noisey ones that crackle, and fireworks that whistle and make lots of colors. They do this every year. Mom and I just sit on the front lawn and watch the show they like put on. It really is fun. And usually the neighbors will come out and watch too. I'm going to ask if Megan can come over too.
Day 21
June 30, 2008
Dear Diary, My dad can be really cool sometimes. Like tonight, he took me out after dinner. Just Dad and me. He said since Ben broke his arm, he knows I've been doing my chores plus Ben's chores. And I think he also knows that Ben has been driving me a little nuts with all his whining. Anyways, we went to play put-put golf. Dad beat me, but it was still fun. I hit the ball right off the green and into the water at least three times!
Day 20
June 26, 2008
Dear Diary, Okay, the first couple days I felt bad for Ben with his broken arm and all. He's already annoying me though. He just lays on the couch watching tv. And any time he needs anything he moans like he's trying to reach for it, and then asks for help. Mom says I need to be nice to Ben since he's hurt. He's really pushing it though.
Day 19
June 23, 2008
Dear Diary, My poor brother! The sun finally came out yesterday and I couldn't wait to go skating. Ben and I were racing down the hill when he lost his balance. He crashed onto the edge of the sidewalk. I knew he wasn't faking it, because he was screaming so loud. A trip to the doctor, and now he has a cast on his arm. No skating for Ben for a while I guess. I feel bad for him.
Day 18
June 21, 2008
Dear Diary, It rained all day today. That's no fun for getting to play outside. All my favorite things to do are outside. No rollerskating or skateboarding in the house. Hopefully tomorrow the sun will be out again.
Day 17
June 20, 2008
Dear Diary, I must have a hard head or something. Today I was swinging upside down on the pull-up bar on my swing set. I thought it would be fun to let go and only hold on with my legs and swing as high as I could. Well, it was fun, right up until I slipped and hit the ground! I think I landed on my nose. It hurt pretty bad, but nothing's broken, no bleeding or anything. My dad laughed and said that's because I'm a rough and tumble girl.
Day 16
June 17, 2008
Dear Diary, I love my mom, but sometimes she can drive me a little nuts. Since we came home from vacation, she's been stressed out about getting the house back in order. And I guess things have been real busy for her at work too. That's the thing, when Mom gets stressed she yells a lot. It's like she loses all her patience with everyone in our family. At least she apologizes for yelling afterwards. I just wish she didn't get so nuts about it.
Day 15
June 12, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm trying to not get car sick while I write this! We're on our way home from the beach. Other than snorkeling, my favorite thing we did was bike riding. We rented bikes and toured all around the beach area. It was fun, but by the end, my legs were pretty tired. Mom says next time we go to Myrtle Beach, we might rent a house and invite all our aunts, uncles, and cousins. Now that would be really cool!Day 14
June 10, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm having a really nice time at Myrtle Beach with my family. Mom and Dad read their books sitting under their big umbrella. And Ben and I have been exploring the beach. I never tried snorkeling before. It's pretty cool to see the fish and other sea life. The water isn't totallly clear, but you can still see. One time though, a big wave came over me and I sucked in a bunch of salt water into my breathing tube!
Day 13
June 6, 2008
Dear Diary, It's been a little rainy and cloudy the last couple days. Hopefully it will go away soon, we're supposed to leave for Myrtle Beach in the morning. Dad says we can stay for a few days now that school is out for the summer. We go to the beach quite a bit, and we always have a good time. The only thing not fun about the beach, is my mom pestering me to always put more sun lotion on. I'll try to write more while we're at the beach.
Day 12
June 1, 2008
Dear Diary, I was outside all day today. My friend Megan and I were rollerblading and riding our bikes. My mom even made us a picnic lunch to eat out under our big oak tree. Now I'm exhausted. There must have been a bunch of mosquitos out there, because I have bites all over my arms and legs. I'm trying not to scratch them because that just seems to make them itch even more! Anyways, aside from the mosquitos, Megan and I had a lot of fun.
Day 11
May 30, 2008
Dear Diary, Boys can be so rude sometimes. I was skateboarding on my driveway when my brother and his friends rode up on their bikes. One of Ben's friends asked something about "What's a girl doing on a skateboard?" I could feel my face turn red, I was so mad. Then I said "Probably doing something you can't do." My brother Ben and the other boys laughed. I get so frustrated sometimes. Girls can do anything boys can do, right? I'm much happier riding my bike or rollerblading instead of playing dolls or taking ballet.
Day 10
May 28, 2008
Dear Diary, I've been wondering about my freckles. What are they for? I have them, my brother has them. Mom says they're like kisses from the sun. That's cheesey. I think they're just another reason for kids to tease you. At least my daddy says they make me look beautiful.
Day 9
May 23, 2008
Dear Diary, No school Monday! That means a nice long weekend. I know my Mom has to work a lot this weekend at the hospital. That means my Dad will cook his famous lasagne for dinner. He loves to cook. And anytime Mom is busy working, Dad likes to play chef in the kitchen. It's kind of fun!
Day 8
May 20, 2008
Dear Diary, After school today my brother Ben and I went biking on the trails. They're so cool because the trails aren't like the road. These trails have lots of hills and fast turns. Sometimes it's hard to balance. Like today, I got too close to the edge and lost my balance. I actually fell into a duck pond! It didn't hurt or anything, but the water was pretty gross. Ben wouldn't stop laughing.
Day 7
May 16, 2008
Dear Diary, Guess what? My mom said that I can go with her to work today since there is no school. There is some kind of teacher work day or something. And my mom can’t get off work, so I get to go with her! My brother is going to work with my dad! My mom is a surgical nurse and works in the hospital. She helps the doctor during surgeries. I don’t think I will be allowed in any surgeries, and anyway, I think I would puke if I saw some guy’s guts anyway!
Day 6
May 13, 2008
Dear Diary, I kept trying to find time to write, but we were so busy the whole time at the beach. We were outside the whole time, swimming and looking for shells and eating picnics on the beach. It was so great! I didn’t want to bring my diary down to the beach because I thought it might get ruined, so I left it up in the room where it was safe. My mom was very happy too, because my brother and I tried really hard to get along since it was Mother’s Day. I could tell she was proud of our behavior, because another lady told her that we were very well-behaved and that she must be doing a good job raising us. And, to top it all off, my dad got to go fishing and caught a huge barracuda! Did you know those things have a million tiny sharp teeth?? Disgusting!
Day 5
May 10, 2008
Dear Diary, We are here at the beach! It is so beautiful. The sky is perfectly blue and the water is calm. It is a little cold, but I am going to swim anyway. Our hotel has a pool also, so if the ocean is too cold, we can just swim in the pool because my dad says that it is heated. Everyone is getting unloaded and unpacked and I am just sitting here writing. My mom is going to scream in a minute that I should be helping!! I guess I better go. I will write more later about the beach!
Day 4
May 7, 2008
Dear Diary, Guess what? We are going to go away this weekend for Mother’s Day. My mom wants to go to Myrtle Beach to relax on the beach. Me and my brother are very excited because we love the beach. And we get to stay in a hotel and everything. My dad said he is going fishing and boating. I am going to see if my bathing suit still fits from last summer!
Day 3
May 4, 2008
Dear Diary, Yesterday my brother and I built a big ramp out of wood and put it up in our driveway. Then, we started skating up the ramp and flying off the other side. That was so much fun! We only fell a couple times, but we’re okay. My mom saw us out there, but she just put her hands over her eyes and said, “I can’t watch!” Grown-ups are so boring!!
Day 2
May 1, 2008
Dear Diary, It was such a nice day today. I love when the weather turns warm and we are all excited about school getting out in a couple months. Today, my mom said she will take me and my brother on a bike ride all the way to the park. It is about 2 miles, but I just love riding my bike, so it will be just awesome for me!!
Day 1
April 28, 2008
Dear Diary, I had such a rotten day today, that I was stomping all over the house. Well, my mom didn’t like that one bit, so she told me I should write down all my problems and maybe I would feel better. So, I’m writing, but so far, I don’t feel any better, but I guess we’ll see. Here’s what happened. I was on my way to lunch and I was just minding my own business when this kid stepped on the back of my shoe. This made my shoe come off and I tripped and fell. I was so embarrassed and angry. Then, he didn’t even say “sorry” or anything, and the teacher just said, “you’re fine; it was an accident.” The next bad thing that happened was that my yogurt exploded in my lunchbox and I had sticky, yucky yogurt everywhere. Then the rest of my food was ruined, so I didn’t even have any lunch.
