Elizabeth's Diary

Day 59

November 12, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm glad Lauren isn't holding a grudge against me or anything about leaving early. She called this afternoon and wants to go skating. I love my new skates Mom bought me a few weeks ago. They glide so much easier than the ones I had. Gotta go get laced up since Lauren will be here any minute.

Day 58

November 11, 2008

Dear Diary, I had fun at Lauren's, but I think she got mad at me because I didn't want to stay longer in the morning. I tried to explain to her that my family had a birthday party to go to. I know she was disappointed, but hopefully she understands. She's acting fine and all now, but sometimes Lauren doesn't tell you when she's mad, she just gets real quiet.

Day 57

November 7, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm going to spend the night at Lauren's house tonight! I have to remember to bring my roller skates since we always skate together. Lauren has a huge driveway we skate on. I swear I smell meatballs or something cooking. I hope they're not having Italian food without me tonight! I'd better go check-

Day 56

November 5, 2008

Dear Diary, This time change still feels weird to me. We eat dinner and then it's pitch black outside, which means no more playing outside after dinner anymore. It makes it feel really late, like I should already be in bed, and it's only 6:30! Mom says I should just read a book then. Reading is okay, but I already did my thirty minutes of reading for homework. We have to read that much every night.

Day 55

October 31, 2008

Dear Diary, My costume for Halloween is very unique. I came up with the idea myself. I'm a chef! Get it? I love to cook, so I have a white chef's hat and apron. I think I'm going to carry around a plastic mixing bowl and spoon too. Lauren is coming to come over soon so we can go trick-or-treating together. I can't wait! I wonder if we could go around the neighborhood on our rollerskates? Probably not a good idea since it will be dark already!

Day 54

October 26, 2008

Dear Diary, The party last night was a lot of fun! I know it was starting to snow in some parts of North Carolina, but thankfully it didn't here for the party. I love the snow, but it stinks when you want to do something outside like have a party, or go trick-or-treating. I'm hoping it won't snow Friday either. After that, it can snow all it wants.

Day 53

October 25, 2008

Dear Diary, We're going to a Halloween party this afternoon. They're going to have a bounce house and lots of food and games. It's actually one of our neighbors down the street. Mom and I are going to make sweet and sour meatballs to bring, one of my favorites! My sister Megan doesn't want to go because she says she's too old for Halloween now. Nobody is too old for Halloween!

Day 52

October 23, 2008

Dear Diary, It's so gray outside today. It rains and then it stops, rains and then it stops. Not really good for being outside, so I'm hanging out on the couch with both my cats cuddled up on the couch next to me. I can feel Bootsy purring on my feet. What cuties! Nothing else very exciting is going on today. School was about the same. Maybe I'll have something to write about tomorrow.

Day 51

October 19, 2008

Dear Diary, My new black skates are cool, but I have to break them in I guess. Mom said I might get blisters since they're new, so I wore two pairs of socks today, and that seemed to help. I love the summer when it stays light out so late and we get extra time to be outside and play. Now it seems like it's starting to get dark earlier already.

Day 50

October 17, 2008

Dear Diary, Finally! We're going to look for skates tomorrow. Mom said there was a flyer in the newspaper that says the sporting goods store is having a big sale this weekend. Sweet! I hope they have black. I like black skates because then you can really see my hot pink laces. I better bring my allowance money in case I see anything else I want.

Day 49

October 11, 2008

Dear Diary, I don't know why, but Bootsy and Fluffy are acting really frisky! Sometimes they get like that before a storm comes, or before a cold front blows in. It's like they think they're weathermen or something. Even though they both stay inside, they're running all around the house like it's a race track, chasing each other. Better watch out!

Day 48

October 10, 2008

Dear Diary, We're going to visit Grandpa tonight after Dad gets home from work. He needs my dad to help him with programming his garage door opener or something. My dad is pretty handy, so anytime Grandpa needs help he just calls Dad. I think I'll ask if we can bring Rover. Grandpa loves Rover.

Day 47

October 7, 2008

Dear Diary, My roller skates are getting too small. After skating with Lauren the other day, my toes were a little sore, and I have a couple blisters. Usually my feet don't bother me at all. Mom checked my skates when I put them back on and said they're too tight. Hopefully we can go look for skates soon, I skate all the time.

Day 46

October 5, 2008

Dear Diary, Lauren and I are going on a roller skating picnic for lunch. We're not going very far, but it makes it feel like an adventure. I'm bringing a peanut butter and marshmallow creme sandwich. That way when we're done skating and we're starving, we can just eat. After that I bet we'll skate some more.

Day 45

September 30, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm on the safety patrol team during carline in the morning and after school. It's funny how the little kindergartners don't want you to open their door for them because "I can do it myself" they say. But the older kids like you to open their car door for them because it makes them feel like they have a maid or something. It cracks me up!

Day 44

September 29, 2008

Dear Diary, Morehead City! That's the name of the city I couldn't think of that we went to. It's not real big, but the beach was awesome! The water was pretty cold but it was fun running into the waves anyway. I wish we could have brought Rover with us, he would have loved the water.

Day 43

September 26, 2008

Dear Diary, We're going over to the coast this weekend. Some of our friends who used to live next door are meeting us there. I can't remember the name of the city, but I better get packing. Dad says we're leaving in one hour!

Day 42

September 22, 2008

Dear Diary, Being in Safety Patrol is so much fun! You get to wear this orange helmet, and an orange sash with a gold medal on it. My post is usually at the car line. I help the kindergarteners open their car doors, and make sure they get right up on the sidewalk to be safe. It kind of makes me feel like I have an important job.

Day 41

September 19, 2008

Dear Diary, The Chicken Scaparelli was a success! It didn't look like much at first. And I could see that Megan and Dad were a little unsure. But once you tasted it, it was delicious. I think they were impressed.

Day 40

September 17, 2008

Dear Diary, Mom and I are going to make dinner together tonight, something called Chicken Scaparelli. We've never made it before, but it sounded really good when we were looking through the recipes online. It has chicken, mushrooms, and red potatos. We'll see how everybody likes it. If it's good, then we can add to our family favorites book.

Day 39

September 13, 2008

Dear Diary, Poor Fluffy. We had to cut some of her fur off this morning because she went through these sticky bushes outside that have purple flowers on them. We could not pull the flowers out of her fur without cutting the hair. I know it'll grow back, but she has some spots that look funny now. Dad said we should just shave her fur all over. Now I think that would look even worse!

Day 38

September 10, 2008

Dear Diary, Tonight we went out for stuffed at this Chicago style restaurant. They have the best stuffed pizza anywhere! I like to get mine with pepperoni, spinach and extra cheese. Some guy was walking around the restaurant making balloon animals for the kids and doing magic tricks. I wasn't interested in a balloon giraffe, but the magic tricks were kind of fun. I couldn't figure out how he did them.

Day 37

September 8, 2008

Dear Diary, It rained pretty hard and the wind was noisey this weekend. We didn't get it as bad as the people along the coast did though. Since we had to stay inside I made 3 new paper dolls and a few new outfits. I wish Lauren could have come over to do them with me, but it wasn't really safe to drive anywhere with the bad weather.

Day 36

September 4, 2008

Dear Diary, I guess it's our turn to deal with bad weather. Saturday, Hanna is supposed to come along through the Carolinas. I guess we won't be doing much outside this weekend. Sounds like a good weekend to make some new paper dolls and hang out with the family. Rover doesn't like storms. He'll probably be hiding behind the couch.

Day 35

August 31, 2008

Dear Diary, Canoeing was so much fun! I can't understand why we've never done it before. I liked paddling, it really wasn't that hard at all. Lauren and I rode in one canoe. Her mom and dad rode in the other. We stopped along the river at lunchtime and had a picnic. What an awesome day we had!

Day 34

August 30, 2008

Dear Diary, Lauren and her family are on their way over to pick me up. We're going canoeing today! I think it will be fun. I've never been canoeing before. I've been rafting, but not sure it's quite the same. My dad has only nagged me about sun lotion ten times or so. I already put it on, and I know I'll have to put more on later. My dad is fanatical about everyone in our family wearing sun lotion.

Day 33

August 28, 2008

Dear Diary, Okay, I think Goerge is gone. Dad found his hole empty yesterday, so he filled it with dirt and some doggie business. Ewwwww-but Dad says he read it online somewhere. Now Rover just sits at the window looking out for most of the day. I think Rover really liked George. Maybe he'll come back.

Day 32

August 22, 2008

Dear Diary, That turtle must know we're waiting for him because now he won't come out! Dad has been on the internet trying to figure out how to get him to come out. We tried leaving out a few of Rover's treats, but that didn't work. I decided we should name him while he's still here. George.

Day 31

August 20, 2008

Dear Diary, We finally figured out why Rover has been barking at the windows. There is a turtle who is digging a hole under our house. My sister Megan accidentally found it and almost broke her ankle when she tripped and fell over it. No wonder Rover has been going crazy. Dad says we'll try to get the turtle out and move him deep into the woods where he won't be digging under people's houses.

Day 30

August 17, 2008

Dear Diary, I don't know what's going on with Rover today. He keeps running from window to window barking. But when I look out the window I don't see anything. Maybe he just wants to go for a walk. Collies have lots of energy. At least it's not too hot outside since it's really cloudy today. Guess I better find Rover's leash.

Day 29

August 15, 2008

Dear Diary, Orientation for school was this afternoon. It was okay. I'm a little sad that I didn't get Mrs. Johnson for my teacher. She's the most popular teacher in our school. Instead I'm going to have two teachers that are team teaching. I've never had a class with 2 teachers before, but hopefully it will be alright. I did sign up to be in the safety patrol club. They help with kids crossing the street before and after school. That should be fun to do!

Day 28

August 11, 2008

Dear Diary, I was outside tonight helping my dad while he worked on his truck. He always says he needs my help when he's working on it. I think he just likes having me to keep him company. Handing him all the tools he needs is kind of boring, but I like getting some quiet time to talk to him. We talk about all kinds of things, like school, my friends, his work, whatever we want.

Day 27

August 8, 2008

Dear Diary, My legs are all bruised up now. I was roller skating around the neighborhood and lost my balance around this big curved hill we have. Well of course I tumbled over and landed right on a bunch of rocks. Oh well, I guess bruises are part of being a kid. Mom made me put a bag of ice on my knee to keep it from getting worse and that seemed to help.

Day 26

August 6, 2008

Dear Diary, I really do love my cats, but right now Bootsy and Fluffy are not on my happy list. I spent all morning laying out all my paper dolls in my collection. I wanted to decide what new outfits to make for them. Well, then the phone rang, and by the time I came back it was too late. Bootsy and fluffy were rolling around in my paper dolls and chasing each other. They didn't ruin all the dolls, but a couple of them I'll have to make over again. They're ripped and have teeth marks in them!

Day 25

July 31, 2008

Dear Diary, Tomorrow is already August 1st. That means school is right around the corner. I think we go back August 25th. I really like school, so that's okay with me. Summer vacation is fun, but after a while I get bored.

Day 24

July 28, 2008

Dear Diary, July is national blueberry month. I love blueberries! I eat blueberry pie, blueberry yogurt, blueberry anything. Too bad we don't have any U-Pick blueberry farms close by. They're easy to get from the grocery store, but it would be fun to pick them. We've gone strawberry picking before. That was a lot of fun, but we've never gone blueberry picking.

Day 23

July 25, 2008

Dear Diary, Mom and I made stuffed shells for dinner. They're really not that hard to make and I think they taste even better than the frozen kind. Then we popped some popcorn and just vegged out on the couch. It was a good way to start the weekend.

Day 22

July 20, 2008

Dear Diary, My sister Megan is kind of strange sometimes. When it's just the two of us she's really nice and wants to hang out. But once her friends are around she treats me totally different. Then it's like I'm just her bratty little sister. I think she's just showing off for her friends, but sometimes it hurts my feelings.

Day 21

July 17, 2008

Dear Diary, My dog Rover is so silly. I swear he still thinks he's a puppy. We were running around outside. He never looks tired, even after chasing the squirrels around the yard. But he makes me laugh, and we have a lot of fun together. I'd love to walk him on his leash while I'm rollerskating, but Mom says that's just asking for trouble.

Day 20

July 13, 2008

Dear Diary, My mom was teasing me today. She saw me writing an email to my friend on the computer. She said I really need to learn to type so I won't have to peck at the keys one at a time. Yes, I know I type very slow. I tried learning to type using a book, but it's so much harder that way. Besides, I feel like I have my own key pecking system that works. Well, sort of works.

Day 19

July 11, 2008

Dear Diary, You know I love Italian food. Well, last night we made these unbelievable calzones. We made the dough from scratch. Then you roll it out into a big circle, stuff it with all the pizza ingredients you like, and bake it. Mine had broccoli, ricotta and pepperoni. It was so stuffed, I could hardly cover it with dough for the top. But it was delicious!

Day 18

July 6, 2008

Dear Diary, The good news is my room is clean after going through everything looking for my glasses. The bad news is they weren't in there. Then after dinner, Lauren's mom stopped by and I guess she gave my dad my glasses. Oops! Dad talked about how expensive my glasses were and that I need to be more careful with them. I try, but sometimes I forget where I had them last.

Day 17

July 5, 2008

Dear Diary, Uh-oh. Mom asked today why I wasn't wearing my glasses. I told her I forgot. But really, I still haven't found them. I hope they turn up soon. I think I'm going to go through everything in my room. They have to be in there somewhere.

Day 16

July 3, 2008

Dear Diary, I can't find my glasses! My parents are going to kill me if I don't find them quick. I haven't exactly told them they're missing. I'm still hoping I find them first. I'm nearsighted so I don't need them for writing or reading up close. But I have a hard time watching tv or seeing things further away. Where did I leave them?

Day 15

June 30, 2008

Dear Diary, Rain, rain, rain. It doesn't look like it's ever going to stop. Bootsy kept me company all afternoon while I worked on some new paper dolls. She just sat there curled up right by my feet. I wanted my friend Lauren to come over to make dolls too, but the weather was so bad you couldn't even drive anywhere. Bummer.

Day 14

June 29, 2008

Dear Diary, We had a good time at Grandpa's party today. The kids all went swimming in the pool, while the adults were relaxing on the porch. Poor Mom kept asking if Grandpa was alright and if he felt okay. He just laughed and said everything was perfect. I think it was perfect too, especially the carrot cake we baked!

Day 13

June 27, 2008

Dear Diary, Grandpa had to go to the hospital this morning. He's okay now. But they thought he might be having a heart attack. It looks like he may just have been getting a little anxious about all the excitement with the party and family coming to town. It really scared my mom and dad. But the doctor said Grandpa will be fine. He just needs to take it easy.

Day 12

June 22, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm beat. Mom wasn't kidding about us cooking up a bunch of food for Grandpa's party next week. We made Swedish meatballs. carrot cake, and a bunch of other yummy stuff. Swedish meatballs are Grandpa's favorite, so he'll be so happy. But now I'm just going to veg on my bed and read my book till I fall asleep.

Day 11

June 21, 2008

Dear Diary, This whole week went by so fast! College for Kids was awesome. This weekend Mom says we have to do a lot of cooking to get ready for all the company coming to town for Grandpa's birthday. I love helping my mom in the kitchen. The only part I don't like is washing the dishes when we're cleaning up!

Day 10

June 17, 2008

Dear Diary, Since my parents both work, I go to a lot of camps in the summer. This week I am at a college for kids program. We're doing art projects. Yesterday we learned about watercolors and did some painting. Today we worked with clay. The best part is that this week Lauren is with me in camp.

Day 9

June 14, 2008

Dear Diary, Megan's party was a lot of fun! My friend Lauren spent the night too. We ate lots of cheese puffs and cake. I feel really tired today because we stayed up so late. I think I might go take a nap. Maybe Rover can sleep next to me.

Day 8

June 12, 2008

Dear Diary, This weekend is my sister Megan's birthday party. She's having a big sleepover with all her friends. My mom said I could invite Lauren over to stay the night too. I hope her dad says yes. I'm going to help Mom make a lasagne for the dinner. I absolutely love Italian food!

Day 7

June 8, 2008

Dear Diary, Well, I think I'm finally getting over that nasty flu bug I had. I may even go roller skating today. We have a huge driveway that I like to practice turns and spins on with my skates. One time I remember skating with my sister Megan. I lost my balance and fell flat on my back. I wasn't hurt, but I got scared when I had the wind knocked out of me. For a few seconds I had a hard time catching my breath. That was not fun.

Day 6

June 7, 2008

Dear Diary, Uggghhh. Our whole family has been sick with the flu this week. I didn't even know you could get the flu in the summer when it's so hot outside. The worst part is taking a shower when you have a fever. It almost feels like the water hurts. But at least my mom makes the best chicken noodle soup. And when I have a fever, I can eat all the popsicles I want.

Day 5

April 14, 2008

Dear Diary, Boy oh boy, you should see how much homework I had today. I was working all afternoon and I didn’t even have a chance to play outside. Bummer!! What is with these teachers and all this homework? Don’t they know we are still kids and need some free time! My teacher is not the nicest person ever. She is a good teacher, but she sure does love that homework! UGGHHH!

Day 4

April 2, 2008

Dear Diary, Today when I was roller skating with my older sister, Rover was chasing us down the street and he ran right in front of me. That crazy dog made me fall down! Oh Rover! You should be more careful!

Day 3

March 30, 2008

Dear Diary, Rover stepped on Fluffy’s foot today. Being a very prissy cat, she screamed and meowed very loudly. Poor Rover, he didn’t mean to smush her little kitty paw, but she doesn’t seem too understanding!

Day 2

March 27, 2008

Dear Diary, You will never believe this. Yesterday, when Rover had a bath, he jumped out of the tub and ran all over the house! I never even got to rinse off the soap…what a mess!!!

Day 1

March 24, 2008

Dear Diary, Today, my friend Lauren and I made two more paper dolls. We just felt that we were getting tired of our old ones. Ok, I will tell you the truth. Rover found my paper dolls and ripped two of them to shreds. Why would a big collie want to tear up some paper dolls? I don’t know why, but I do know that they do and I won’t be leaving my stuff out anymore! I have to give him a bath today. He really is a good dog, but he is not too happy about getting baths. I always end up soaked because he shakes and shakes and sprays water everywhere.
