Rachel's Diary

Day 163

March 17, 2010

Dear Diary, Happy St. Patrick's Day! It's always crazy here in New York with all the parades and everything, but that's just how it is. People really go all out with the green. I saw a few people dressed as leprechauns, and lots other people with green hair. I asked my parents if I could color my hair green for today and they laughed and then told me no. I knew they would. I'm not really that attention seeking anyway-

Day 162

March 15, 2010

Dear Diary, Tyler got this new dart gun blaster, and now he's driving me nuts with it. He hides around corners in our house, and then blasts you when you least expect it. At first it was kind of funny, but now it's just annoying. I wish I could find his dart gun and blast him back, but everytime I look for it it's gone. He must be hiding it from me.

Day 161

March 11, 2010

Dear Diary, I'm grounded from using nail polish for awhile since I spilled it. I guess it's only fair since I wasn't supposed to be using it in my room anyway. Since my mom couldn't get it out either, I have to live with a big pink spot on my rug. My bad-

Day 160

March 3, 2010

Dear Diary, My parents always say I shouldn't paint my nails in my bedroom because I might spill it on the carpet. It was an accident, but I spilled pink nail polish on my carpet, and now I can't get it out. I tried water and this carpet cleaner my mom has under the sink. She is going to be mad when she sees it. Maybe I can just cover it up with something. No, that'll never work-

Day 159

February 28, 2010

Dear Diary, Mom tried to wash my stuffed animals because she said they were getting dusty. Well two of them were ruined in the washing machine! They ripped, and all the stuffing got messed up. Makes me so sad, but I know my mom didn't mean to do it. She felt kind of bad, and said she'd get me a couple of new ones. At least they weren't my most favorite stuffed animals, but I still liked them.

Day 158

February 21, 2010

Dear Diary, We're off to Central Park today. It's supposed to be nice outside. I hope so. We're bringing Snickers and Boo with us too. They love the park, but they have to stay on a leash, so that means no fetch or frisbee throwing I guess. Time to get ready!

Day 157

February 16, 2010

Dear Diary, All this snow has been so crazy lately. It seems like as soon as things get back to normal, we get hit with another storm. I bet we'll have a lot of snow days to make up at the end of the year. Whatever.

Day 156

February 12, 2010

Dear Diary, My parents are taking us to the Metropolitan Museum. There's some photography exhibit my mom is dying to see. I like some of the paintings, like the ones by Monet. Hopefully we can see some of the other exhibits. And after that, I'm sure we'll eat at Becco's.

Day 155

February 10, 2010

Dear Diary, I went and got my hair cut after school with Mom. The lady cut off a lot more than I really wanted her to, but it's just hair, it'll grow back I guess. As long as I can still put it in a ponytail I'm happy.

Day 154

February 1, 2010

Dear Diary, I cannot stop sneezing today. (There goes another one!) Mom is dusting everything in the house, and it's all nasty now. I hate dust-

Day 153

January 27, 2010

Dear Diary, I actually think I like the hip hop class better than jazz now. I just love the music! We have a recital coming up next month. I hope my mom remembered to order my costumes. If not, it might be too late-

Day 152

January 21, 2010

Dear Diary, Snickers destroyed one of my favorite teddy bears while I was at school. If he wasn't such a cute dog I'd be even more mad. I know he didn't mean to do it. Sometimes Snickers gets overexcited and just chews whatever he sees first. At least it wasn't my new shoes!

Day 151

January 19, 2010

Dear Diary, Only three days of school this week! We had no school yesterday because it was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and then Friday it's some kind of inservice day, where the teachers have to be there, but the kids don't. I'm hoping we can go iceskating Friday...

Day 150

January 11, 2010

Dear Diary, Tonight in karate class, my instructor got out the Indo boards. We haven't used them in a long time, but they're really fun, AND they're awesome for learning to balance. I wish we could use the boards every class!

Day 149

January 6, 2010

Dear Diary, My karate leadership class meets tonight. We're supposed to be working on goal setting. I guess that makes sense because it's the new year. I'm supposed to have 2 goals to work on for the year. I still haven't decided, but I'd better hurry since we leave for class in 30 minutes...

Day 148

January 2, 2010

Dear Diary, You know how sometimes you just don't feel like talking? Sometimes that happens to me. I'm not mad, or in a bad mood, I just like to be by myself sometimes and not have to talk to anyone. Sometimes I practice my karate, or sit and read. I go in my room just to chill out. Tyler doesn't understand that, he says it's weird. It's not though, it's just me.

Day 147

December 21, 2009

Dear Diary, Savannah came over to play. We set up the driveway like a hockey rink and used my dad's brooms to try to hit the tennis ball into each other's goals. AND, we did this with our skates on! It was really funny-

Day 146

December 18, 2009

Dear Diary, People drive so crazy in the city. On the way home we saw a car accident. This minivan lady drove right into the back of another car, like she didn't see him there. The man in the other car was really upset, but at least he didn't look hurt. I'm not sure I ever want to drive in the city when I grow up-

Day 145

December 12, 2009

Dear Diary, Last night was the first night of Hanukkah. We lit the first candle on the Menorah. Then we each gave one present to each other. Tyler gave me this really funny pair of fuzzy socks. They have penguins on them. I think they're cute.

Day 144

December 9, 2009

Dear Diary, I'm so happy that we're finally going to go iceskating tomorrow! Mom said she would take Savannah and me. And my brother Tyler is coming too with one of his friends. I bet there will be lots of people there. That reminds me, I better go find my iceskates. I haven't seen them in awhile.

Day 143

December 1, 2009

Dear Diary, We just found out that my karate studio is moving. It's a little further away, but I really love my instructor, so hopefully my parents are okay with that. I know there are other karate schools closer, but I've been going to this one forever. I think I started there when I was like 3 or 4.

Day 142

November 27, 2009

Dear Diary, I'm kind of glad we stayed home this year and watched the parade on tv instead. It gets really crazy down there. And then this morning I was happy that Tyler volunteered to go shopping with my mom and I got to stay home with Dad. Shopping on the busiest day of the year? Not my thing!

Day 141

November 24, 2009

Dear Diary, One more day of school. I think most schools are already done, but not us. Private schools don't always go by the same calendar. We're doing a Thanksgiving feast at school tomorrow. A bunch of parents are coming in to help us make the food. Mom and I get to help make the cranberry sauce. I don't really like cranberry sauce, but that's okay, it'll still be fun!

Day 140

November 18, 2009

Dear Diary, It's only like 7:00 pm, and I'm already yawning. It took me awhile to fall asleep last night, so maybe that's it. It takes awhile to fall asleep when you're reading in your bed with a flashlight, instead of trying to sleep! Tonight I can't wait to go to sleep...

Day 139

November 13, 2009

Dear Diary, Movie night tonight! It's my pick, and I want to watch something funny. I have no idea what yet, but I just feel like laughing. It's not like I'm sad or anything, I guess I'm just feeling kind of silly. It's been a long week!

Day 138

November 9, 2009

Dear Diary, Tyler and my dad are going to some Star Wars concert tonight. They asked if my mom and I wanted to go too, but we said no way. I think I'd rather go shopping, and you know how I hate shopping! I think we're just going to hang out.

Day 137

November 1, 2009

Dear Diary, Savannah's party was so much fun! I thought I would miss not trick or treating, but this was better. We did games and there was a costume contest judged by the parents. They had this reverse bobbing for donuts game. They hung a bunch of donuts on a pieces of yarn from a tree. And when Savannah's dad said go, the first person to eat the whole donut first won. And you couldn't use your hands to hold it or anything. We were laughing so hard it took awhile!

Day 136

October 26, 2009

Dear Diary, I figured I better write tonight because this week is so crazy busy, I'm not sure when I'll have time again. Karate, dance, Savannah's spooky party, lots of fun stuff. That reminds me, I still need to get a wig for my costume. So much to do, better get going!

Day 135

October 22, 2009

Dear Diary, We went to a Halloween store last night, and I actually got scared! Maybe startled is a better word. We were walking along looking at all the decorations and I felt something hit my foot. When I looked down, there was this stuffed mummy that was crawling on the floor. I guess it runs on batteries, and it scared me! Tyler was laughing too. Once I realized what it was I laughed, a little anyway.

Day 134

October 15, 2009

Dear Diary, Tonight, dance class was kind of an exhibition class. Everyone had a chance to break into small groups to practice, and then perform for the whole rest of the class. Our group did pretty good. I thought I would be nervous with the rest of the class watching, but it wasn't so bad, kind of fun actually.

Day 133

October 10, 2009

Dear Diary, I am still really liking the hip hop class I'm taking. It's already been a few months, and it feels like I've been doing it a really long time. It's a lot harder than people think because they are so many different moves to learn and remember, but you just have to practice a lot.

Day 132

October 4, 2009

Dear Diary, We literally did nothing this weekend except hang out. It was awesome! Okay, I did clean my room a little, which basically means I rearranged all my stuffed animals. Mom was asking me if I want to get rid of any of them yet. What? I love my animals, and no I don't want to part with any of them.

Day 131

October 2, 2009

Dear Diary, My mom thinks she's so funny sometimes. When I asked her what we were doing this weekend she said she didn't know. And then she said, "maybe we could go shopping." She knows how much I dislike shopping! I guess that means we have nothing planned. Sometimes that's good too since we're always running around doing stuff.

Day 130

September 30, 2009

Dear Diary, Tomorrow is the first day of October already. I love this time of year! That means it's almost time for Halloween parties, and all that fun stuff. Savannah said she might have a costume party, but I haven't heard her say anything recently. That would be cool!

Day 129

September 22, 2009

Dear Diary, Gross! My brother is eating a salami sandwich, and now that's all I can smell. He's in the other room, and I can still smell it! I'm just not into smelly food, unless it smells good, then that's okay. I have no idea what I was going to write about, but now I totally forget. Oh well, I'll be back later-

Day 128

September 15, 2009

Dear Diary, I forgot my homework! Well, I have the homework, I just don't have my math book. Maybe I'll call Savannah and see if she and I can do our homework together. I don't want to get a zero for missing the assignment. Gotta go-

Day 127

September 13, 2009

Dear Diary, Friday night we had such a good time. We ate the most delicious pizza, with lots of pepperoni, of course. Then we played at the fun center. Tyler and I were trying this game where you dance and have to keep up with the right moves. You dance on this floor with lights and sensors. I was laughing hard, but then it was even funnier when our dad did it!

Day 126

September 8, 2009

Dear Diary, My mom is going to have a jewelry party at our house this Friday night with her friends, so no movie night. No kids allowed. So, my dad is taking Tyler and me out for pizza, and maybe the arcade or something. As long as it's not shopping, that's great!

Day 125

September 2, 2009

Dear Diary, We wanted to bake pumpkin muffins, but the store didn't have any canned pumpkin. How can there be no pumpkin? We checked another grocery store, and they were all out too. Is it because it's not Halloween yet? Bummer.

Day 124

August 28, 2009

Dear Diary, I'm pretty happy to be back in school again. It's not like I don't see Savannah all the time anyway, but now I can see some of my other friends. And I love the teachers, most of them are pretty cool. We actually had a sub for the first week though. My teacher, Mrs. Scott, is in England because her daughter just had a baby. I can't wait till she comes back Monday!

Day 123

August 22, 2009

Dear Diary, I'm going to get my haircut today since school starts next week. Nothing exciting, just a trim I guess. I've had the same hairstyle for awhile now and that's okay with me. I usually end up wearing it up anyway. After that my mom wants to stop and look at clothes. I wear a uniform to school, so I don't really need school clothes, but she wants me to have clothes for play and weekends.

Day 122

August 15, 2009

Dear Diary, My legs are still sore from hip-hop class yesterday. It was great! We're really learning a lot of cool moves, and I love the music. It has such a great beat-

Day 121

August 10, 2009

Dear Diary, My cousin Mark lives in Japan. He teaches English there. I guess there was a big earthquake there yesterday. My mom said he emailed that he is okay, but that it was really scarey. The walls and furniture were shaking. I've never been in an earthquake before, so I can't imagine what that must be like. Wow!

Day 120

August 8, 2009

Dear Diary, We're doing movie night tonight instead of last night because my mom had to work last night. It's my pick, and I said Hotel for Dogs. I've already seen it, but I love that movie. We made these cinnamon rolls that you just pop out of the can for a treat. They must be almost done, I can smell them-

Day 119

August 1, 2009

Dear Diary, Tonight at the dance studio they're having an open gym kind of thing. You get to use any of the gymnastics equipment, and they have a couple bounce houses. My mom is taking Savannah and me. It's much more fun than going by myself. I know a lot of the other kids at the studio, but Savannah is my best friend.

Day 118

July 24, 2009

Dear Diary, My karate demonstration was pretty good. I always get a little nervous performing in front of everyone by myself. I think it's because I know they're all watching me. I only missed a couple things, and I think only my instructor noticed. I'm not sure the other students would since most of them are pretty new. I made it through it, and that's all that matters.  Time for movie night!

Day 117

July 20, 2009

Dear Diary, My brother Tyler was helping me practice some of my sparring. I'm doing a demonstration for class this week, and I want it to be just right. I don't want to forget what I'm doing, or make any mistakes. It's hard though, because Tyler hasn't taken karate very long yet, and he's not as good as the partner I usually practice with, but it's better than nothing.

Day 116

July 11, 2009

Dear Diary, We were at Aunt Jody's house last night for dinner. There were a lot of people there for my little cousin's birthday. I always feel shy when there are so many people around. But I hate when everyone keeps asking if I'm okay or if I'm mad. Why does something have to be wrong, just because I'm being quiet?

Day 115

July 6, 2009

Dear Diary, The fireworks were cool, but I felt bad for our doggies when we got home. They were both hiding under my parents' bed. I think all the loud noise scares them. And when I picked up Snickers, his little heart was beating so fast. Too bad they don't have earplugs for dogs-

Day 114

July 3, 2009

Dear Diary, I'm excited for tomorrow. We always go watch the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks. And they usually have live music and yummy food at all the street vendors. I am not going to the hotdog eating contest though. I went with Tyler and my parents last year, and it grossed me out to watch! They can go, but not me!

Day 113

June 29, 2009

Dear Diary, Dance class is going awesome! I love the new moves we're learning in hip-hop. It's even more fun when you love the music. It's a bunch of new moves I've never learned before in jazz or anything. We're learning the Spiderman, and all about locking and popping so far. I can't wait to go again tomorrow!

Day 112

June 24, 2009

Dear Diary, Boo can be such a bad puppy sometimes! When I came home he was running around the house with some white fluffy stuff in his mouth that looked like cotton. Well, when I went into my room I found one of my favorite teddy bears all ripped apart, and that's what the white cotton was from. He's lucky he's so cute or I'd really be mad!

Day 111

June 16, 2009

Dear Diary, Snickers is okay. The doctor said it's just a boney part of his rib that's shaped like a hook. That's why you can feel it poking out. He said maybe because Snickers has lost some weight we're just now noticing it, but that it was always there. Good news!

Day 110

June 14, 2009

Dear Diary, Snickers has to go to the vet. Tyler found a lump on his side. Hopefully it's not anything bad, I get worried about anything ever happening to my doggies. I think I'm going to ask my mom if I can go with her. The appointment is this afternoon.

Day 109

June 8, 2009

Dear Diary, I'm feeling a little frustrated right now. To get these new dance moves down everyone has to practice on their own at home too. It seems like some people are and some people just don't care. Our dance teacher gave everyone a cd of the music so there's really no excuse. It's just frustrating that we have to keep going over the same steps in the routine because the same girls are not getting it. It's called practice-

Day 108

June 3, 2009

Dear Diary, Dance class was so much fun tonight! Miss Michelle thinks we're ready to try something new. She has this awesome hip hop music and a new dance she choreographed for us. I'm not used to dancing as a group with everyone in sync, so it should be cool!

Day 107

May 27, 2009

Dear Diary, I found my belt, but it's a mess. I must have accidentally dropped it outside when I was getting out of the car, and now it's all wet and gross. At least it's black in color, so you can't see how dirty it is. I'm just happy I don't have to go to class without it. There's always a consequence when you show up without your uniform.

Day 106

May 24, 2009

Dear Diary, No school Monday. And since it's a holiday, the karate school is closed too. That gives me a few extra days to find my karate belt, so that's probably a good thing. I cannot find it anywhere. My teacher is not going to be happy if I come to class Wednesday without it.

Day 105

May 18, 2009

Dear Diary, Our fun project in school today was playing math bingo with candy. Then we got to eat the candy when we were all done. I know it's just a way to help us study for our test tomorrow, but it was fun! Now it shouldn't take me as long to study tonight. Oh no, and I have karate too! Better get busy-

Day 104

May 13, 2009

Dear Diary, Our teacher, Mr. Haley, is actually kind of cool. He is making one day each week a fun day. We still have to do work, but he's having us do fun projects and experiments. I'm going to miss him next year when I get a new teacher. And I hope that Savannah and I get to be in the same class again.

Day 103

May 5, 2009

Dear Diary, I was thinking about asking to go iceskating this weekend, and then I remembered that Wollman Rink is already closed! Skating season goes by so fast. If the rink was inside we could skate all year, but it's not. It went by so fast this year, I think I only skated a few times.

Day 102

May 1, 2009

Dear Diary, Today is a teacher work day, so that means no school, and a three day weekend! Tyler went over to his friend's house, and Mom and I are going out for lunch. I already made her promise no shopping because you know how she is. And then tonight is movie night. Dad gets to pick this one, but he said he's keeping it a surprise until tonight. Gotta go!

Day 101

April 26, 2009

Dear Diary, Oh my gosh! We had so much fun Saturday! There were tons and tons of trails all through the woods to ride the horses on. My horse was a reddish brown color, and his name was Charley. He was really sweet! My mom wanted to ride the carousel, so we did that too. Then we stopped and had pizza and Savannah stayed the night. What a great birthday!

Day 100

April 24, 2009

Dear Diary, I'm so excited for horseback riding tomorrow with Savannah for my birthday! I haven't been in awhile, so it should be cool. I think I'm going to ask if Savannah can spend the night tomorrow night too. Then we can see each other all day!

Day 99

April 22, 2009

Dear Diary, My Grandma and Grandpa sent me my birthday present already. It's a gift card that works like a credit card, so you can use it anywhere. That's cool I guess, except I don't really like shopping. Maybe I can use it at the movie theater? Hopefully-

Day 98

April 15, 2009

Dear Diary, My birthday is in only two more weeks! I told mom I would rather go do something than have a party at our house. So, my idea is to go horseback riding at Forest Park. And my parents actually thought that was a good idea. Of course I'm bringing Savannah with us. Even Tyler thinks it sounds like fun. I wish my birthday would hurry up! We're going the Saturday before my actual birthday.

Day 97

April 10, 2009

Dear Diary, Movie night tonight. And tonight I actually get to have Savannah come stay the night. Since she's the guest we're letting her pick the movie. Hopefully it's either something I haven't seen yet, or else something awesome. Gotta go, my mom says I have to clean the bathroom before we can go get Savannah.

Day 96

April 2, 2009

Dear Diary, Yesterday my karate instructor kept trying to be funny with April Fools jokes. When we were warming up, he told us to drop and do 100 pushups. Then he'd say "April Fools!" It was funny the first couple of times, but then it was kind of like enough already!

Day 95

March 29, 2009

Dear Diary, I feel anxious to do something, but I don't know what. Right now I'm just bored. Not that I don't have homework and practicing forms for karate I need to do, I just don't feel like it right now. Savannah said she would call me this morning so we could do something, but she hasn't called yet. I'm going to go see what Tyler's doing-

Day 94

March 22, 2009

Dear Diary, We have three birthdays in our family coming up in April! My dad, my little cousin Kaleb, and me all have birthdays at the end of April. That means lots of fun parties!!! I'm actually trying to decide what to do for my birthday. Maybe I'll do something totally different...

Day 93

March 18, 2009

Dear Diary, Yesterday was so hard trying to get home from school. The St. Patrick's Day parade had just ended, and traffic was awful. Mom and I ended up taking the subway to a different station, and had my dad pick us up. I wish I had seen at least part of the parade. It's a really big deal in New York City, even if you're not Irish.

Day 92

March 9, 2009

Dear Diary, The tournament was pretty good. I would say the other school is a little better than ours on forms, but we crushed them in sparring! I think when I did my counter attach, the other kid didn't know how to respond. It was awesome!

Day 91

March 4, 2009

Dear Diary, I'm so tired tonight. We're getting ready for an inter-school karate tournament on Saturday. I've been practicing my forms and sparring, but it's the sparring that really wipes me out. I always end up going against someone who's bigger than me, and it makes it a little harder.

Day 90

March 2, 2009

Dear Diary, Boy, this leadership stuff is tough. When I started the leadership program in karate I had no idea what to expect. It's so much more than just remembering the forms. You learn how to instruct students in a positive way. It's really an awesome responsibility. A lot of work, but worth it.

Day 89

February 25, 2009

Dear Diary, Apparently Mr. Haley didn't hear me complaining in my diary about all the homework we've had so far this week. Now we have to come up with 10 math questions and 10 science questions with the answers by Friday. He says it's for something fun we'll be doing. I sure hope so.

Day 88

February 23, 2009

Dear Diary, Back to school. I don't mind school, but I do mind all the homework we had piled on today. I wish the teachers would go easy on us for a day or so since we just came back from vacation, but not this time. Time to get to it I guess-

Day 87

February 17, 2009

Dear Diary, No school this week! It's midwinter recess! Mom took off the week from work to be with Tyler and me. Savannah went to visit her grandparents for vacation. We'll just be hanging out at home. That's okay with me. I still have karate and dance class. And I can spend some time with my doggies.

Day 86

February 14, 2009

Dear Diary, Happy Valentine's Day! When I woke up this morning, there was this white fuzzy teddy bear with a big red heart of chocolates sitting on the kitchen table with a card for me. It was from my parents, of course. I love stuffed animals! I think I have like thirty of them. This one is so adorable!

Day 85

February 7, 2009

Dear Diary, Savannah stayed the night at my house last night. We did each other's hair about a million times! My favorite was when Savannah let me french braid her hair. I thought it looked really pretty. We always do silly things like that when we're together. Oh, and Dad made us cider too. I wish she could stay tonight too, but our moms said no.

Day 84

February 2, 2009

Dear Diary, Happy Groundhog Day! What a strange holiday, isn't it? So, if a groundhog sees his shadow then it means six more weeks of winter. But if the furry animal doesn't see his shadow because it's cloudy, then winter is just about over. We talked about this in school today, and our teacher said the groundhog has been accurate only about 39% of the time. That's not a very good weatherman in my opinion.

Day 83

January 31, 2009

Dear Diary, Remember how I said I had to make a decision in karate? Either to head towards leadership or competition? I think I've finally decided that I want to move into leadership. It's fun teaching other students their forms and everything else. Sometimes I think I want to be a teacher when I grow up anyway, so this would be perfect!

Day 82

January 24, 2009

Dear Diary, Last night I picked for us to watch Ratatouille. I've seen it a couple times before, but it's so cute! I just love the Little Chef. I think Tyler was bored, but he'll get over it. I have to deal with some of the movies he picks that I don't like either.

Day 81

January 19, 2009

Dear Diary, We went over to see Aunt Jody and my little cousin Kaleb. He wanted me to read Fox in Socks to him. It's a really really long tongue twister, and I had a really hard time reading it! But Kaleb was laughing, he thought it was funny sounding. He's such a cutie!

Day 80

January 13, 2009

Dear Diary, Mom made me go shopping last weekend, and you know how much I love that. She always waits until she has me trapped in the car for something else, and then tells me. "Oh, by the way, we're stopping by a few stores too." It's so not fair, but I guess I did need some new pajamas and other stuff.

Day 79

January 6, 2009

Dear Diary, Back to school. Our teacher Mr. Haley was in a pretty good mood, and we spent a lot of time talking about what everyone did for winter break. There was a kid in my class who actually went to Europe over vacation! We always stay in the city for the holidays, and usually family comes to see us, but not this year. I hope soon, I haven't seen my grandparents in a while.

Day 78

January 1, 2009

Dear Diary, Okay, there is definitely no place better to have New Year's Eve than down in Times Square! Especially when we got to see the Jonas Brothers perform live! That was pretty neat. It was crazy busy with so many people packed around you almost couldn't breathe, but I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else!

Day 77

December 30, 2008

Dear Diary, Ice skating didn't last quite as long as I thought it would because we were absolutely freezing! And then it started snowing so hard you could hardly see where you were skating. I think I like it better when there's only a few pretty snowflakes falling, not when it feels like the clouds are dumping wet snow on you!  That's part of the reason I started karate, you can do it all year long no matter what the weather is like-

Day 76

December 29, 2008

Dear Diary, This last week went by so fast! Today I'm going ice skating with Savannah at Wollman Rink. I'm going to wear my new blue hat and scarf I got for Hanukkah. We'll probably skate all day, or at least until we're too tired to skate anymore!

Day 75

December 21, 2008

Dear Diary, Today is an important day in my family. It is the first night of Hanukkah. Each night for the next eight days we will light a candle on our menorah. This year my dad said I can light the first one. Each night we spend as a family doing something special. We have cooking night, art night, and of course movie night!

Day 74

December 15, 2008

Dear Diary, Tyler's grades weren't sooo bad, but he did get a couple "C"'s. I made honor roll! Tyler told our parents that he's okay with getting "C"'s, but they didn't quite see it that way. He kept saying something about being an average student, and that's an average grade...blah, blah, blah...Well, if he doesn't pull up his grades soon, he won't be going to karate for much longer. That would be sad, I like that Tyler and I can spar in class.

Day 73

December 7, 2008

Dear Diary, I think Tyler is going to be in trouble. He told me to not say anything to our parents about getting our report cards tomorrow. That makes no sense. They're going to find out anyway when I come home with mine, and Tyler doesn't. I'm not worried about my grades too much, usually I get A's and B's. I'll find out tomorrow...

Day 72

December 1, 2008

Dear Diary, I feel kind of bad. I don't know why, but I've been pretty grumpy today. Well, I guess it actually started when I got home from school. The second I got in the door, my mom was already nagging me about leaving my hooded sweatshirt at school. I didn't mean to leave it, I just forgot. Well, then she starts telling me that it's a brand new sweathsirt, and how I need to be responsible for my stuff, and so on. I guess a sweatshirt isn't really worth being grumpy about, is it? I just better remember it tomorrow!

Day 71

November 16, 2008

Dear Diary, I just love the city in the fall! We went out walking around, looking at all the holiday decorations. They're so beautiful. All the department stores look so different this time of year. I actually didn't mind the shopping so much today. Did I really just say that? I usually hate shopping! Oh well, pretty soon it will be time for the Thanksgiving Day Parade. I think some people must get there the night before to get such good seats!

Day 70

November 12, 2008

Dear Diary, Snickers must be over whatever was making him not feel good the other day. Now he's back to running all around. Savannah and I took him outside to play and he chased us all around. He LOVES chasing the tennis ball when you throw it for him. Snickers is very good at playing fetch. I'm just glad my dog is feeling better.

Day 69

November 9, 2008

Dear Diary, Snickers must not be feeling good today. His nose is warm and very dry. Usually it's cold and wet. He has also been sleeping a lot lately. Can dogs really get colds? I should look it up on the internet. Poor thing!

Day 68

November 8, 2008

Dear Diary, Tyler and I actually went to family hour today for karate. He's getting pretty good already. It's always fun when our instructor matches us up together for sparring. Sometimes I have a hard time not laughing because Tyler's face looks so serious. The more I try to not laugh and be serious, the harder I laugh!

Day 67

November 6, 2008

Dear Diary, Our class is putting on a Thanksgiving play in a few weeks. We're already talking about costumes and scenery and all that fun stuff. I hope I get to be a turkey. They don't have any lines to memorize, they just have to say "gobble, gobble". Mr. Haley said he'll tell us in a couple days who is going to be what. I just can't believe that it's almost Thanksgiving already.

Day 66

November 3, 2008

Dear Diary, I had to go through mass amounts of shopping this weekend, so I'm glad to be back in school again today. Dad wanted to hit all the after Halloween sales and stock up on decorations and everything for next year. Of course, everyone else in the state of New York had the same idea! My dad just loves adding to his Halloween decorations every year. How many more skeletons and tombstone markers can he possibly need? He cracks me up!

Day 65

October 29, 2008

Dear Diary, We finally made it to the pumpkin patch. Dad didn't want to go too early, he was afraid they would rot. I was worried all the good ones would be gone, but they had a whole field of them. We had so much fun, and ate lots of doughnuts, can't break tradition. Now tonight we'll carve them after dinner, what a mess that is.

Day 64

October 27, 2008

Dear Diary, Savannah invited me to go shopping with her and her mom this weekend, but I told her no thanks. I love hanging out with Savannah, but the one thing we disagree on is shopping. Savannah loves going to the mall, I avoid it like the plague. But, I guess you can't be the same on everything. Savannah doesn't understand why I like karate so much either!

Day 63

October 23, 2008

Dear Diary, We're going over to Aunt Jody's house tomorrow. I haven't seen Kaleb in a long time, so that should be fun. I know Friday night is usually movie night, but Dad said we'll do it Saturday night instead. Better go, I promised Mom I'd help her make chcoclate chip cookie bars with frosting. Yum, yum!

Day 62

October 21, 2008

Dear Diary, A boy in my class named Michael has the dog who won the "Honorable Hound" at the masquerade contest.. That's so neat! He said he won $250! I had no idea that Michael even had a dog. Maybe next year I will enter one of my dogs. We'll see.

Day 61

October 20, 2008

Dear Diary, What a fun weekend! I went with Savannah's family to the "Dog Day Masquerade" at Times Square. All these cute dogs were dressed in costumes trying to win prizes. But the event is really about trying to help dogs get adopted and find homes. I wish I could have entered Snickers and Boo. I think my dogs are the cutest!

Day 60

October 14, 2008

Dear Diary, Miss Michelle brought in a really cool music mix for our dance class today. It was kind of funky music, not the kind I usually listen to, but I liked it! She really had us working hard tonight, I'm exhausted. I think I'm going to take my shower and go to bed-

Day 59

October 9, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm so excited that Halloween is almost here! My favorite part is going to the pumpkin patch for our pumpkins. We always drink apple cider and eat donuts while we're there. Dad says we have to wait a little bit longer though before we can get our pumpkins. Otherwise, they might go bad before Halloween is even here. That would be bad.

Day 58

October 6, 2008

Dear Diary, Movies on the lawn was pretty fun. It was a movie I had seen before, but that's okay. It was cool just being outside for a movie. The weather was beautiful too. I ate a whole box of sour candy, and my tongue was sore afterwards. Oops!

Day 57

October 3, 2008

Dear Diary, Since Friday night is movie night, we decided to do something different. Tonight we're going to movies on the lawn. You can go to this park where they show movies on a big screen right in the middle of the park. All you have to bring is your blankets and snacks. I think it will be fun!

Day 56

October 1, 2008

Dear Diary, My brother Tyler has been doing karate for a few weeks now, and he's starting to get much better. At home I help him practice his forms. There's a lot to remember! We have 30 forms for this style. He seems to like that I help him, and we've actually been getting along pretty good.

Day 55

September 30, 2008

Dear Diary, Can you believe that tomorrow is already October? Time goes by so fast once school starts. And October means that Wollman Skating Rink will be opening soon! Savannah and I love to go iceskating! It seems like forever since the last time we skated there. I have rollerskates to use outside my house, but it's just not the same. Time to go to dance class...

Day 54

September 26, 2008

Dear Diary, I had to bring an apple into school because our class made applesauce. Mr. Haley said since it's fall now that we should do something fun to celebrate. I'd never had homemade applesauce before, but it was pretty good. Not as sweet as the other kind you buy in the store, but we added cinnamon. I actually liked eating it when it was still warm. Maybe we could make our own applesauce at home sometime, it really wasn't that hard.

Day 53

September 23, 2008

Dear Diary, Our karate instructor really made us work today. My arms are so sore after practicing with the nunchaku. We don't use the real wooden ones, these are foam attached to the chain. My favorite move is the helicopter. It's kind of complicated, but basically you spin around and whip the nunchaku around over your head. Our nunchaku are used for performance, not for fighting.

Day 52

September 22, 2008

Dear Diary, Mr. Haley said today is the first day of fall. It doesn't feel any different to me today than it did yesterday. But I know that pretty soon it will be getting cold out, and then comes the snow! I love snow! Well, except I don't like shoveling it off the sidewalk in front of our house. Other than that, it's a lot of fun!

Day 51

September 18, 2008

Dear Diary, Why is it that parents lock themselves in the bathroom to read? Or at least my parents both do. Mom says the only quiet time she gets to herself is to read in the bathroom. It just seems a little strange. When I'm an adult, that won't be me.

Day 50

September 13, 2008

Dear Diary, My plan to bribe my brother from picking Star Wars last night didn't work. My dad wasn't really helping either since he wanted to watch it for the millionth time too. I guess it can't be the movies I love all the time, that's the whole point in taking turns picking movies. But this next Friday is my turn, and you can bet I won't be picking anything with Yoda or Luke Skywalker in it.

Day 49

September 12, 2008

Dear Diary, Friday night is movie night in our house. It's Tyler's pick this week. He says he's going to pick Star Wars. He always wants to watch Star Wars. It's not like he hasn't already seen it a million times! Maybe he'll change his mind. I'm thinking of offering him my allowance for this week if we can watch something else. There's an idea!

Day 48

September 10, 2008

Dear Diary, It's amazing how taking out that one activity, piano, has added so much time for me to spend with my family and Snickers and Boo, and my friends. Piano lessons were once a week, but then I also had to practice on my own. I really think it was the right decision for me. I know my parents let me decide, but I think they're secretly relieved. Dad seemed worried that I was taking on too much. I think I'm going to take Snickers and Boo outside to play.

Day 47

September 6, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm not sure I even told you about school. I still go to the same private school in the city. Savannah isn't in my class this year, but we can still see each other in lunch and gym. Other than that it really doesn't seem that different. My teacher is still Mr. Haley. They decided to loop all the teachers with their classes for this year. Next year I guess I'll have a new teacher. That's okay though, I really like Mr. Haley. He pushes us hard to learn, but he makes it really fun. We always play these cool games and do fun projects where you don't even realize you're learning, but you are!

Day 46

September 3, 2008

Dear Diary, You know how I just love shopping. Not much. Mom tricked me today. She picked me up from school and then decided to tell me we were going shopping for school clothes. By then I had no choice since I was already trapped in the car. It was okay I guess. We did find a few things since the weather will be getting colder soon. I really needed a new winter jacket. Hopefully that'll be the last shopping trip for a while.

Day 45

August 31, 2008

Dear Diary, I was a little nervous about Mom actually calling Mrs. Oliver about me dropping piano. Not that I was going to change my mind or anything. I just didn't want to offend Mrs. Oliver. My quitting piano has nothing to do with her, it was my own personal choice. But Mom said that Mrs. Oliver was very understanding and didn't seem bothered at all.

Day 44

August 30, 2008

Dear Diary, My parents had left the decision up to me about whether or not to keep doing dance, karate, and piano. Now that I'm going to give up piano I feel so relieved. That way I'll be able to focus myself on only two things besides school. I was starting to feel like I was spreading myself a little thin. I like being busy, but not crazy busy. Mom says she'll call my piano teacher tomorrow.

Day 43

August 26, 2008

Dear Diary, Why does it feel like we're the only state that hasn't started school yet? They might as well start it earlier knowing we'll have to add on snow days at the end of the year anyway. We start the day after Labor Day. I told my parents that once school starts, I want to quit piano. At first they were really surprised. But once I told them I just feel too busy and don't like it as much as I used to, they understood.

Day 42

August 22, 2008

Dear Diary, Thank goodness Kaleb is going to be okay. I guess he has a slight concussion from falling in the tub. Poor thing! Aunt Jody said he'll be okay, he just has to take it easy for now. Then he'll go back in another week to get it checked again. How scarey that must have been for them.

Day 41

August 19, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm kind of worried about my little cousin Kaleb. My Aunt Jody just called crying and upset saying they were taking Kaleb to the hospital in a helicopter. Apparently he had fallen in the bathtub last night and chipped his teeth. They thought he was fine, but this morning he woke up and was acting strange. I hope Kaleb will be alright, he's such a sweet little boy.

Day 40

August 16, 2008

Dear Diary, My brother Tyler has decided he wants to try karate. He has never done it before. We won't be in the same class since he'll be a white belt and I'm a black belt. I think it's kind of funny that I know something he doesn't know and yet he's my big brother. This should be interesting.

Day 39

August 12, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm so excited that the Olympics have started! I love watching swimming and the track and field. Right now karate is not part of the Olympics. They have judo and taekwondo, but not karate. There is actually a difference between them. Karate has more complex moves that use more hand and arm movements. Supposedly karate might be added for the 2012 Olympics. I hope so!

Day 38

August 9, 2008

Dear Diary, It's not fair. Tyler never has to help clean up the kitchen. Every night I have to help Mom do the dishes. Tyler takes out the garbage. Okay that's only two days a week. And we eat dinner seven days a week. Quite a difference if you ask me. I'm not saying I shouldn't have to help in the kitchen. I just want things to be fair.

Day 37

August 5, 2008

Dear Diary, At first I didn't know if I liked Miss Michelle our new dance teacher. Now that I've had a few classes with her I really like her. She has trained with some really amazing dancers and has even done dancing in a few broadway shows. She's tough and pushes us really hard, but she means well. I think she really wants us to learn all that we can.

Day 36

August 3, 2008

Dear Diary, Yesterday's balloon ride over Central park was amazing! Tyler took so long getting ready we almost missed it. We were running through the park to make it there by 7:00am. I was a little scared at first, but once we got up in the air it was really cool. I can't believe how far you can see up there.

Day 35

July 30, 2008

Dear Diary, This time of year they always have balloon rides in central park. We're going to go this weekend. The only bad part is having to get up at five in the morning to get there. The rides start at 7:00am. Mom and I have always watched Dad and Tyler go up in the balloons. This year I want to try.

Day 34

July 27, 2008

Dear Diary, My karate instructor has asked me to decide which way I want my training to go. After you have a black belt you usually work towards leadership or competition. My instructor thinks I should build my leadership. This would mean taking a more active role in class and training to be an assistant. I have to think about it because I also love to compete.

Day 33

July 25, 2008

Dear Diary, Tonight is Mom's turn to pick the movie. She always ends up renting some sappy romantic comedy movie like "Sleepless in Seattle". They're okay, but she always cries while we're watching it. Which always makes Dad and Tyler laugh. They tease her about it. Mom is a good sport though. She knows she's a wreck for those kinds of movies.

Day 32

July 20, 2008

Dear Diary, On second thought, Mom and Dad should go away on their own and leave me at Savannah's house more often! We had a lot of fun together. We baked cookies and danced to music. I even tried to teach Savannah how to play the piano using her keyboard. She did pretty well for her first try.

Day 31

July 17, 2008

Dear Diary, I can't believe my parents are taking a trip without us! Tyler is going to a friend's house for the weekend. I get to stay with Savannah's family. I know I'll have fun with my friend, but I still wish we could go with them. Dad said we can go to Vegas with them when we get older. Then he said something about moms and dads needing their time alone too.

Day 30

July 13, 2008

Dear Diary, We took Snickers and Boo to the groomer today. They look so adorable now with their hair all trimmed short. I can actually see their eyes now. And they have these cute little bows in their hair. Tyler hates the bows, but I think they're adorable.

Day 29

July 11, 2008

Dear Diary, Tonight is family movie night. It's my pick this week, and I want to watch something funny. Not sure what yet. Maybe Aquamarine? Tyler always moans when I pick a girl movie. He would watch Star Wars every week if he could. I love that we take turns choosing the movies we watch.

Day 28

July 7, 2008

Dear Diary, I haven't been practicing my piano as much the last couple months, and my teacher noticed. I still take lessons, but haven't been playing on my own as much. Mrs. Oliver, my teacher, says if I want to be serious about getting better, then I have to practice. I do want to get better, but it's hard sometimes to have time with karate and dance practice too.

Day 27

July 5, 2008

Dear Diary, My family had a good time in the city last night for the fourth of July. We laughed a lot. My big brother Tyler was threatening to enter the hotdog eating contest because he knows I can't stand it. Thankfully, he was kidding. How gross!

Day 26

July 2, 2008

Dear Diary, July 4th in New York City is the best place to be. There's all the awesome fireworks and music concerts. Usually we just spend the whole day in the city. The only part I love to miss is the big hotdog eating contest they have at Coney Island. A couple years ago we were there for the disgusting eating contest, and I thought I was going to get sick. Hopefully we'll miss it again this year.

Day 25

June 29, 2008

Dear Diary, Sundays are such nice lazy days around our house. Everybody stays in their pajamas until lunch time. I know that sounds strange, but it's so comfy! Sometimes it's nice to not have to rush off to be somewhere by a certain time.

Day 24

June 27, 2008

Dear Diary, Tonight is usually movie night in our house. Instead, we're going to do movie night tomorrow. Tonight I have a karate belt test. I'm trying to get my second degree black belt. Afterwards, I think we're going to eat at the pizza place that's right next door.

Day 23

June 23, 2008

Dear Diary, My puppy Boo has been up to his old tricks again. Today I found him digging tissues out of the bathroom garbage can. He was dropping them all over the house. Boo would rather chew anything other than his own toys. He's such a goofy little dog, but I do love him. He's also very sweet and lets me hold him as long as I want to.

Day 22

June 22, 2008

Dear Diary, This morning I went to the dance studio. We have a new teacher. Her name is Miss Michelle. She'll be teaching our ballet class. She's not that different from our old teacher. But she makes us do a really long warm-up. Warm-ups are so boring though. I'd rather just get to the dancing. But Miss Michelle says you have to warm-up so you don't hurt your muscles and also get more flexible. I still say it's boring though.

Day 21

June 19, 2008

Dear Diary, Tyler my brother must be bored since there's no school. He's been following me around all day. Even when I was on the computer, he was on the rug behind me yapping in my ear. I'm not even sure what he was talking about, he just kept talking and talking and talking. Mom says he's just trying to be a good big brother. Whatever.

Day 20

June 16, 2008

Dear Diary, Okay, so I admitted to my dad that I accidentally put a hole in the wall of our office. Well, I kind of told him. I said "What would happen to someone if they made a mistake and opened the door too hard putting a hole in the wall?" He pretty much figured out the rest after that. Dad said he was proud that I told him the truth and didn't try to hide it. So after dinner I'm going to help him patch the wall. Whew! Thank goodness I'm not in trouble for it!

Day 19

June 14, 2008

Dear Diary, I am gonna be in so much trouble! Today I accidentally opened the office door too hard, and now there's a hole in the wall behind the door where the doorknob hit it. My parents are gonna freak out! It was an accident, but I don't want to tell them. Maybe they won't see it. Maybe They'll think Tyler did it. But that wouldn't be fair to blame him. I'll tell them later.

Day 18

June 9, 2008

Dear Diary, You know, sometimes it's hard being shy. This afternoon one of my brother Tyler's friends came over. I was sitting in the kitchen eating an apple, minding my own business. Then his friend said to me "Don't you ever talk?" My face just turned red and I left the room. If I don't know somebody very well, I just stay quiet. Is that so wrong?

Day 17

June 5, 2008

Dear Diary, This morning before school we found a lost dog in front of our house. The poor thing was just standing there shaking and barking. My brother Tyler and our dad got some of Snicker's dog treats and the dog followed them into the garage. Then they were able to put a leash on him and read his dog tags. When they called the owner she was so happy we found him that she was crying. I think I would cry too if I lost Snickers or Boo.

Day 16

June 3, 2008

Dear Diary, Karate class was hard today. We did sparring. That's when you and an opponent have a pretend match. It's supposed to help us get ready for competitions. It's fun, but very tiring! My instructor said I did pretty well today, but that I need to be more confident. It's not easy remembering all your blocks and kicks. But I've only been doing karate a couple years and I'm already a black belt.

Day 15

May 31, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm going over to Savannah's house today to play. I need to get away from my brother Tyler. I know he's my big brother and all, but sometimes he annoys me. Like when I'm trying to practice my piano playing, and he keeps peeking around the wall making goofy faces. Savannah's brother is away at college, so there's no one there to bother us. I wonder what we're going to do at her house. Sometimes we listen to music or play board games. Whatever we do together, we always have fun.

Day 14

May 30, 2008

Dear Diary, While we were all out of the house today, one of our dogs chewed all my moms nice shoes in her closet. I think she said it was seven pairs of shoes! We think it was Boo, our yorkiepoo puppy. She's a bit mischievous. We also have an older labradoodle named Snickers. Snickers doesn't usually get into much trouble, but you never know. My mom was not very happy!

Day 13

May 27, 2008

Dear Diary, My parents have decided that I might be too busy. I take dance, karate, and piano. They said that I may have to make a choice and drop one of my activities before summer is over. I like being busy, but sometimes it's hard to have time to see my friends or my family. Some days I feel like I hardly have time to pet my dogs! I guess I'll have to wait and see what they say.

Day 12

May 25, 2008

Dear Diary, I went with Savannah's family to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. My favorite is Monet's Water Lilies. It is such a beautiful painting. I love all the different colors. We spent the whole afternoon there, just walking around to see everything. I think you could get lost in the museum, it's so big! After the museum we went out for pizza!

Day 11

May 23, 2008

Dear Diary, Yeah! We're all done with our testing! Our teacher said we get to have an icecream party tomorrow at the end of the day to celebrate our hard work. I hope she has chocolate, that's my favorite. Chocolate with pieces of fudge in it.

Day 10

May 19, 2008

Dear Diary, I had fun this weekend doing pretty much nothing, except hanging out with my dogs. Now it's back to getting ready for the regents testing. We start in just a couple days. I'm not too worried, we've been practicing. But I'll still be glad when it's over with!

Day 9

May 16, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm so happy it's Friday! I don't have karate or dance or piano practice today. Yes, I'm a busy girl, but sometimes I just like hanging out at home. Friday night is movie night at our house. Each week we take turns choosing a movie. This week is my brother Tyler's turn. He wants to watch "Alvin and the Chipmunks". I hope it's good!

Day 8

May 13, 2008

Dear Diary, Something funny happened to me today! I was trying to get ready for dance class, when my yorkiepoo puppy Boo ran off with one of my ballet slippers. I had to chase him all around my house trying to catch him. My brother was laughing the whole time. Finally I tricked Boo with a milkbone. He dropped the slipper and ran right over to me. Silly puppy!

Day 7

May 10, 2008

Dear Diary, Mom says we're going into the city today to go shopping. I love going to the city and seeing all the people, but I hate shopping for clothes. Mom always wants me to wear skirts and dresses. I just want to wear jeans! Wish me luck.

Day 6

May 8, 2008

Dear Diary, I haven't been doing so good lately writing in my diary! I'm sorry, I'll try to write more. It's just been so busy. I had two karate tournaments plus a dance recital. I did very good in my karate and even broke the board on my second try. I still have to practice my forms though. I love having so many fun things to do!

Day 5

April 8, 2008

Dear Diary, I went to Central Park today. I saw my friend Savannah and we jumped rope and ran around until lunch time. We wanted to go ice skating at Wollman Rink, but my mom said that we didn’t have enough time. Oh well, maybe next time.

Day 4

April 5, 2008

Dear Diary, we had another mouse in our house today. My babysitter stood on a chair the whole time. Snickers tried to get it again but couldn’t move fast enough. I wonder where are all the mice coming from.

Day 3

April 2, 2008

Dear Diary, Today we had a mouse in our house! It was the craziest thing! I didn’t even see it at first, but my dog Snickers was going bonkers running around house. So my brother and I went to see what he was chasing and it was a real live mouse!! Luckily, my mom is very brave, and she got a broom and sort of swept it out the back door. It didn’t even get hurt!

Day 2

March 30, 2008

Dear Diary, Today I had the worst day at school. I accidentally forgot my math homework on my kitchen table, I got in trouble and my teacher is going to mark it down a whole letter grade for being late!

Day 1

March 27, 2008
