Samantha's Diary
Day 155
March 19, 2010
Dear Diary, I used to take dance, and then I quit. Now I wish I hadn't stopped. My mom says I can start taking dance again if I want to. I'm actually thinking about trying cheering. It's not like cheering for a football team. It's competitive cheering, which is actually a lot like dance. Hmmmm...
Day 154
March 16, 2010
Dear Diary, I've been so crazy busy that I didn't even get to tell you about our modeling appointment. I think it went good. I thought they would just take our pictures, but they had us do a lot of practicing reading for commercials. I thought modeling was pictures, not acting. Still, I think I did good, and Mom says the man said he would call us soon.
Day 153
March 10, 2010
Dear Diary, I'm so happy that so far I'm doing a lot better in math this year. I haven't used my tutor so far. It's hard, but I think I'm doing pretty good. Time to go, we're going to my grandma's house for dinner. She's making potato pancakes, which are not my favorite, but that's the way it goes I guess.
Day 152
March 6, 2010
Dear Diary, There's this modeling contest for a magazine, and my mom thought it might be fun. She sent in pictures of all three of us kids, and guess what? They called and want to meet us! It doesn't mean for sure we'll get it, but I think it's kind of cool. Our appointment is next Thursday-
Day 151
February 23, 2010
Dear Diary, I think my mom's birthday dinner turned out good, after we had to make the pasta part over again. When we made the noodles the first time we forgot to set the timer, and they were really gross. Oops! But the lasagne was perfect after that, and my mom seemed really happy that we made her favorite.
Day 150
February 21, 2010
Dear Diary, My mom's birthday is tomorrow, but we're celebrating it today since tomorrow my dad will be at work and I'll be at school. Mom went out this morning and got a manicure and pedicure, and tonight we're making Mom her favorite dinner. I get to help since I'm the oldest. We're going to make lasagne. Yummy! Grandma is bringing the cake too-
Day 149
February 18, 2010
Dear Diary, I'm so glad my mom gives us rides to school when it's so cold out. I see some other kids still riding their bikes, and I feel bad for them. I love riding my bike, but not when it's freezing outside! Thanks Mom, you're the best!
Day 148
February 13, 2010
Dear Diary, Today we went to my little cousin's birthday party. It was a laser tag party. I've never played laser tag before, but it was really a lot of fun, once I learned how to play. We had teams and you had to try to laser the other teams vests. I hope we can do that again!
Day 147
February 9, 2010
Dear Diary, My dad was not happy about all the songs I've been buying online. He says I either have to start paying for my own, or they're only letting me download 2 songs a month. Well, that stinks! I love music, and I'm always wanting new songs.
Day 146
February 6, 2010
Dear Diary, It's been almost forever since the last time I wrote in my diary, but I could not find my journal anywhere! Finally, my mom found it in my little brother's room. It's not like he can read yet or anything, but still. I'll have to find a better hiding spot for it, some place way up high...
Day 145
January 23, 2010
Dear Diary, I watched the "Hope for Haiti" thing they had on tv. I thought it would be fun to see all the famous people and singers on tv, but it was really kind of sad to watch. I didn't realize how bad it really is in Haiti since the earthquake. I begged my mom to call during the show so we could donate too. Every little bit helps, right?
Day 144
January 18, 2010
Dear Diary, I'm so happy I'm me. I mean, I'm happy with me the way I am. I have a couple friends who always say they're "fat", and they're so not. They always worry so much about their eating and everything. I try to eat healthy, but I am the way I am.
Day 143
January 14, 2010
Dear Diary, The doctor gave me this cream for my skin, and I must be allergic to it. I have itchy red spots all over my neck, and my left eye is all swollen and red. Yuck! Hopefully it will be better before school tomorrow. It looks really bad!
Day 142
January 10, 2010
Dear Diary, I hate when you're using the computer and get up to use the bathroom. By the time you come back, someone else has already hopped on the computer, and closed out whatever you were doing on there first. My little sister just did it to me, and now she won't let me use it again!
Day 141
January 6, 2010
Dear Diary, My voice sounds really funny today, I hope I'm not getting sick. Whenever I talk it sounds like my voice is cracking. Even my mom noticed it. Then she gave me a big glass of orange juice and told me I needed to get to bed early. Okay Mom...
Day 140
December 31, 2009
Dear Diary, Kami's still really bummed out, but I think she really appreciated the card I made for her. I asked her if they were going to get another dog, but she said she didn't know. Maybe that was the wrong thing to say, but I just can't picture Kami's house without a dog.
Day 139
December 25, 2009
Dear Diary, I feel so bad! Kami just called me and she was really upset. Her dog got hit by a car! I don't have a dog, but I know how much Kami loved her Trixie, and I just feel awful. I wish there was something I could do to make her feel better. Maybe I'll go make her a card...
Day 138
December 22, 2009
Dear Diary, We're going to make Christmas cookies to take over to Nana's house for Christmas Eve. We always go to Nana's for Christmas Eve and open one present. Time to do the cookies! We're making gingerbread men and iced cookies too.
Day 137
December 17, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom's book club is having some moms only holiday party tonight at our house. And we'll still be here since it's right before bedtime. She said we can watch movies in her room until bedtime. I hope we at least get some food.
Day 136
December 13, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom is in one of her clean freak moods. Right after breakfast she announced that Kate and I were going to clean out our entire room. It took almost 2 hours! I know it looks much better, and I finally found that calculator I lost, but that's 2 hours of my life I can never get back!
Day 135
December 4, 2009
Dear Diary, I cannot stop the itching! I have these red splotches all over my body that are driving me crazy! Mom thinks maybe it's the new laundry soap she started using, so now she's rewashing all my clothes in the same soap she used to use. I've probably itched my neck and arms twenty times just since I sat down to do my diary!
Day 134
November 30, 2009
Dear Diary, I was surprised to hear my parents say that tomorrow is December 1st. What happened to November 31st? And why do some months have 30 days, some have 31, and then Leap Year has 28? It makes me wonder if there's really a reason there aren't the same number of days in all the months. Strange.
Day 133
November 27, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm so tired, but so excited! The day after Thanksgiving sales today were the bomb! Kami and I went with her mom, and now I'm so glad that I didn't spend all my money last week. There was way better stuff today. Well, I think I'm ready for a nap now, if Kate will let me-
Day 132
November 18, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom and I finally made it to the mall. We had to bring Jake with us, but I guess that's better than not going at all. I can't believe all the holiday decorations that are up already. I didn't find anything I wanted to buy, but that's okay. I'll have even more money saved up next time, right? At least we had icecream, my favorite!
Day 131
November 13, 2009
Dear Diary, Kami is in trouble with our teacher. She got caught texting during class. We're allowed to have cell phones in school, but you have to keep them in your backpack during school hours. The teacher took her phone and said she could have it back when her mom came to get it. Ooh, I know Kami's in trouble, because her mom doesn't even know she took the phone to school. I hope she doesn't get grounded, then we can't hang out!
Day 130
November 10, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm so excited! I got my math test back today, and I got a B+! It was a really hard test, with lots of algebra stuff on it. I wasn't sure how I did, even though I studied a lot. Whew! What a relief...
Day 129
November 6, 2009
Dear Diary, I went to Kami's house after school, and she has the neatest dollhouse. It has all the miniature furniture and everything. Even the bathroom has a teeny, tiny roll of toilet paper, and it's real paper. She's been collecting the pieces for a long time. I could never have something that pretty in my room, my little brother and sister would break it.
Day 128
October 30, 2009
Dear Diary, I kind of miss being in kindergarten and first grade when you get to have Halloween parties in school. Once you get older they think you're too big for that stuff. Mom is going to Kate's class today to help with their party and costume parade. She made some funky punch that has vampire eyeballs in it too. They're really made of ice cubes. Way cool!
Day 127
October 28, 2009
Dear Diary, It feels like forever since I've been to the mall and gone shopping. I have a lot of allowance money saved up, and I don't want to miss all the fall sales. Mom said not this weekend since we have Halloween and everything, but hopefully next weekend. It would be great if we could leave Kate and Jake with my dad and just go by ourselves. I hope!
Day 126
October 20, 2009
Dear Diary, My sister Kate is so silly. She just got her Halloween costume a few days ago, and she's already wearing it all the time. She was upset my mom wouldn't let her wear it to school. On Halloween, I love to see all the little kids come to our door dressed up and hand out the candy. What fun!
Day 125
October 14, 2009
Dear Diary, We made the best cookies. They're oatmeal raisin, which usually isn't my favorite. But, my mom found a new recipe and they're delicious. They kind of fall apart in your hand because they're so thin, but they taste really good. Hopefully my brother and sister won't hog them all!
Day 124
October 7, 2009
Dear Diary, Kami almost made us late to school this morning. I usually meet her at the corner so we can ride our bikes together. I was just about to leave because I'd been waiting for like 10 minutes, and she finally made it. We had to ride super fast, but we made it, just barely. I don't like running late like that.
Day 123
October 5, 2009
Dear Diary, Enough football already! Dad wanted to watch it all day yesterday, and now he's already talking about watching the game tonight. Thankfully I'll be almost in bed when it stsrts. I could care less about Brett Favre and all that. Can you tell I'm not really into football?
Day 122
September 30, 2009
Dear Diary, I hate when you see someone you know at the store and can't remember their name. I knew my friend Madison's name, but could not remember the name of the girl she was with, and I know we've been at the same school for a long time. I didn't want to feel stupid by saying, "hey, I know I've known you forever, but what's your name again?" Where was my brain?
Day 121
September 26, 2009
Dear Diary, We're doing animal reports in school. The teacher said we could pick our own favorite. I had to choose the panda! I've been looking up some information on the internet, and I had no idea that panda bears mostly eat bamboo. That doesn't sound very delicious. I still need to find some cool pictures for my poster.
Day 120
September 21, 2009
Dear Diary, My little sister Kate and I have been having a battle today in our room. She wants to keep her side and my side messy. Well, I hate mess! It's bad enough I have to look at her messy side of the room, but she needs to keep her stuff off my side. Can't I just have a room of my own?
Day 119
September 18, 2009
Dear Diary, So much for the shortcut bike ride that Kami found for us to get to school. It's kind of wooded, and my dad said he has seen coyotes on that trail when he jogs in the morning. I'm not sure I've ever seen a coyote in person before, and I'm not sure I really want to. I mean it would be kind of cool, but maybe a little scarey too.
Day 118
September 7, 2009
Dear Diary, Kami and I are still riding our bikes to school this year. Kami thinks she found a new trail that would be a shortcut to school. She's going to show me tomorrow. Tomorrow is the first day of school. I still have to get my stuff ready, and make my lunch. Later-
Day 117
September 5, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm happy school is coming, but a little nervous too. I want to do really good, but I'm worried about how hard the math will be. I was starting to have some trouble at the end of last year, and then we found out I have some processing disorder that makes math hard for me sometimes. Mom said don't worry, and that if I need a math tutor, they'll get me one. We'll see.
Day 116
August 27, 2009
Dear Diary, Every year I go in for a checkup right before school starts. It's not even my birthday, but Mom says it's the only way she remembers. The nurse said I've grown an inch since last summer! That seems like a lot. At least I didn't have to get any shots this time.
Day 115
August 23, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom is going out tonight again with her book club. I wish I was old enough to go. It sounds like all they do is sit around and eat food and talk. So right now she is locked in her bedroom trying to finish the book she was supposed to read, and she told my dad and us kids to not bother her unless it's an emergency. How funny!
Day 114
August 14, 2009
Dear Diary, I forgot my cute green sandals at Kami's house the other day. They're adorable, with little green sequins on them. Well, now I have to wait until she gets back from vacation to get them. I think they come back next weekend. I hope so, I miss my sandals, and my best friend!
Day 113
August 11, 2009
Dear Diary, There was an enormous dragonfly on our back patio. Kate thought it was dead. I told her I didn't think it was because it was still hanging onto the screen. Kate tried clapping her hands and yelling to make it move, but the dragonfly didn't. So she went and touched it. You should have see Kate jump when it took off and started buzzing all around. We were laughing so hard!!
Day 112
August 6, 2009
Dear Diary, We went shopping for back to school clothes, and I didn't find anything! Actually, I found things I liked, but nothing in my size. That figures. Mom said we would try again next week and see what they had. Hopefully the big sales will still be going on too-
Day 111
July 31, 2009
Dear Diary, Yeah! The doctor says I must be doing great with drinking water and eating because my kidney looks beautiful. Can a kidney really be beautiful? Anyways, I guess that's a good thing! After the appointment, we went out for icecream. Yummy mint chocolate chip!
Day 110
July 28, 2009
Dear Diary, I have to go to the doctor for a check up. They want to check and see how my kidney is doing. You know, make sure there are no new kidney stones, and that I'm drinking enough water and all that. They just do a sonogram, so at least it won't hurt. See you later-
Day 109
July 22, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom said before I can go play with my friends today, I have to do a couple of math practice worksheets. I told her I already know how to do them, but she said it's good to practice anyway. Okay Mom, I'll do them. I wish I was tutoring this summer instead, that's more fun! Well, better go get started I guess-
Day 108
July 18, 2009
Dear Diary, It's been awhile since I've written, I know, but summer is just flying by! I feel like I'm going to blink, and school will be starting again. I've been hanging out with Kami and a couple other friends. And my mom has been taking us to the library, and the park, and other places. Gotta go, I promised Kate I would watch the movie Bolt with her. We just got the dvd a couple days ago, and it's really cute.
Day 107
July 8, 2009
Dear Diary, Kami and I had fun, but cheerleading is definitely her thing, not mine. I'm just not as flexible as she is! But that's okay, it was fun to watch her do back hand springs. Kami is really good. Even my little sister Kate was trying to do the splits!
Day 106
July 5, 2009
Dear Diary, Kami is riding her bike over so we can do something. She's taking cheerleading now, and wants to teach me some of the moves. I don't know if I can do a split or anything, but I'll try. I'm gong to set up the cd player in the backyard so we have plenty of room.
Day 105
June 29, 2009
Dear Diary, You know what would be perfect right now? A swimming pool! Every summer I drop hints to my parents that we should get a pool, but they never say yes. It's a pain to always ask to go up to the 'Y' just to swim. They do have a really cool waterslide and diving board though. Maybe I'll see if we can go this afternoon-
Day 104
June 27, 2009
Dear Diary, We watched "Kung Fu Panda" as a family last night, and my brother would not stop laughing. It was cracking me up! It's a funny movie, even though I've already seen it a few times. Now if I can just get Kate to share the popcorn I'll be happy!
Day 103
June 22, 2009
Dear Diary, I've been so good lately about not eating too much dairy so I don't have problems with my kidney. Dad is taking us out after dinner for icecream, my most favorite treat! I already know which flavor I want too, mint chocolate chip. I'm going to take my time eating it since it'll probably be awhile before I can have it again. I guess getting to have icecream once in awhile is better than not at all.
Day 102
June 15, 2009
Dear Diary, My baby brother Jake is so annoying sometimes! His new favorite thing to say is "Stop it!" when he gets mad or doesn't get his way. He doesn't even use it the right way usually. If he grabs something out of my hands and I tell him no, he says it, or if my mom says it's time to go change his diaper, he says it. Here he is banging on our bedroom door right now. I never get any privacy-
Day 101
June 13, 2009
Dear Diary, It doesn't really feel like the first day of summer vacation, but it is! I plan on doing absolutely nothing today but play and relax. Mom is already reminding me that I need to practice my math work that Ms. Dixon gave me for the summer. Gee, thanks Mom! First day of vacation and she's already on me about it?
Day 100
June 9, 2009
Dear Diary, I wanted to go to the mall because they're having some really awesome sales, but my mom said not now. I thought we could find some new school clothes, but Mom said that can wait until the end of summer since I might grow more by then anyway. Okay, okay. Kami's coming over and we're going to ride our bikes-
Day 99
May 30, 2009
Dear Diary, I've only been able to work with my teacher on my math for a couple weeks, and now school is almost over. Ms. Dixon asked my parents if they want me tutored during the summer too. I think we're going to wait until school starts again. It might be nice to have a break for the summer-
Day 98
May 27, 2009
Dear Diary, Why can't we have a pool? It's already getting hot, and it would be so awesome to be able to just go in our own pool. At least Kami has one, but I feel bad asking her all summer if we can go swimming. She's probably bored with swimming since she can go anytime she wants. Lucky!
Day 97
May 20, 2009
Dear Diary, Kami wants me to go shopping with her this weekend. Her grandparents sent her some money, and she wants me to help her find some clothes. I am the queen of shopping for sales! Oh yeah, and I got a 'B-' on my report. It's still a 'B' which is good, but did Ms. Dixon really need to put the minus in there? She said it would have been a little higher if I did a little more explanation. I'll try to remember that for next time.
Day 96
May 13, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm anxious to get my rainforest report back tomorrow. My teacher already said it was pretty good, but she was surprised it was shorter than she expected. She didn't tell us how long it had to be, she just said it had to include this list of ten facts. Well, if I included all that, then that should be good, right? Let's hope-
Day 95
May 9, 2009
Dear Diary, We're doing research projects for school about rainforest animals. I picked the White-handed Tamarin because the picture looked so cute! So far I know that they're an endangered species, and they live only in Columbia, which is in South America. And, they only weigh about one pound! Better get going on my project. It's due Monday-
Day 94
May 6, 2009
Dear Diary, My parents are driving me mad lately. First they want to sell our house and then they don't. Then they take us to these beautiful model homes and talk about which one would be my room. And then they say they want to stay in our neighborhood. Which is it?!?!?
Day 93
April 26, 2009
Dear Diary, My parents emailed my teacher about me not doing so good in math lately. Ms. Dixon said they don't need to hire a tutor because she tutors kids in her classroom after school on Wednesdays. I guess that wouldn't be so bad if it's with my teacher. I just want to do better like I was doing in math. We'll see.
Day 92
April 23, 2009
Dear Diary, My dad's birthday is today, so we're all going out to dinner to celebrate tonight. My mom made him his favorite kind of cake, a carrot cake. And when we came home from school she let me frost it. It was pretty tasty! I'm not sure who ever came up with putting vegetables in a cake, but it works. Well, time to get ready to go-
Day 91
April 17, 2009
Dear Diary, My parents didn't freak about my math grade, but they weren't happy either. Dad says maybe I need a tutor. I'm the one who tutored other kids in math over the summer, and now I need a tutor? How frustrating!
Day 90
April 15, 2009
Dear Diary, A 'C' in math. I've never had anything less than an 'A' in math. Well, until now that is. I got A's in everything else on my report card. I know its been getting a little harder for me lately, but were my test and quiz scores really that low? What am I going to do? And are my parents going to freak?!?!
Day 89
April 8, 2009
Dear Diary, You should see the outfit I picked out at the mall with my mom. It's a long sleeveless sweater that's striped with all these awesome colors, and these super adorable pants. You can wear the sweater over any shirt you want. I'm going to wear it to school tomorrow!
Day 88
April 5, 2009
Dear Diary, I had babysitting duty yesterday and today. Mom and Dad were working out in the yard redoing some of the flowerbeds. They tried having us all out there, but Jake and Kate were pulling out all of the new plants and pretty much destroying everything, so I brought them back inside. Mom said I can go with her to the mall this week and pick out a new outfit for being such a good big sister and helping my parents.
Day 87
March 28, 2009
Dear Diary, I guess Dad and us kids are on our own today. Mom's book club is meeting tonight, and she still hasn't finished reading her book that she should be done with for the meeting. So my mom has already locked herself in her bedroom to read. I think I'll call Kami and see what she's doing.
Day 86
March 27, 2009
Dear Diary, I can never eat enough strawberries. I like strawberry jam, strawberry yogurt, strawberry pancakes, and strawberries on icecream of course. At least they're good for you, right? Too bad strawberry season is almost over...
Day 85
March 17, 2009
Dear Diary, Sometimes I wish there really were leprechauns and a pot of gold at the end of rainbows. That would rock! My sister Kate thinks they really exist. Mom said to just let her be, and not spoil it for her. Okay, okay.
Day 84
March 15, 2009
Dear Diary, Kami and I played outside yesterday. We brought our dolls outside and had a picnic. It was fun just hanging out outside for a change. Besides, then we can play without my little sister and baby brother around!
Day 83
March 10, 2009
Dear Diary, I actually saw someone driving down the street today with a license plate on the back of their car that read "pnda bear"-panda bear! Hey, that should be saved for me when I get a car someday. What a cool idea! I wonder if that person just really likes panda bears, or maybe they work at the zoo or something. I just don't know-
Day 82
March 6, 2009
Dear Diary, My little sister Kate and her mess are driving me crazy! How am I supposed to share a room with such a slob?!?! Even when she tries to keep the mess on her side of our room I end up tripping over things trying to get to the door. Last night I got up to go to the bathroom and stepped on some sharp pointy toy and tripped all over getting to the door. Uggh, messy sisters!
Day 81
February 28, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm in the family room right now, and I can hear my mom on the phone in the kitchen. She's all being firm with some insurance lady. I never hear my mom sound like that. You go Mom! My mom doesn't get upset or mad very often, but when she does you know it's something big.
Day 80
February 27, 2009
Dear Diary, There's a special on tv tonight about panda bears. Mom said if I get all my homework done and get all ready for bed that I can stay up a little later to watch it. I love panda bears! I don't even remember when I started liking them. I think I always have. And now I have all kinds of t-shirts, stuffed animals, and pictures of panda bears. Even my backpack has a panda bear!
Day 79
February 23, 2009
Dear Diary, We watched the cutest dvd last night. It was all these Pixar short films. Each one is only like 5 minutes, but they were hilarious. When kept rewinding to watch each one again. My favorite was the one with the little sheep that's all proud of his fleece, and then gets shaved bald!
Day 78
February 16, 2009
Dear Diary, My little sister Kate lost her first tooth today. Well, it has been barely hanging on all weekend. It's too funny! She's all excited about the tooth fairy. And when she smiles she looks just like a jack-o-lantern! I explained to her that the next tooth that comes in will be forever, and she didn't believe me-
Day 77
February 11, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom is going out tonight with her friends from book club. That means Dad will probably make mac and cheese for dinner and we'll hang out and watch a movie. That also means that I have to help give Jake and Kate their bath. I don't mind helping, but they always get me and the bathroom soaking wet.
Day 76
February 8, 2009
Dear Diary, Oh, you should see all of the super cute stuff Mom and I found at that store with the big sales! All kinds of pink and light blue shirts, and leggings. So cute! I didn't find any shoes in my size, but that's okay, I found plenty of other stuff. I forgot my calculator too, but I didn't need it. Figuring out 50% off and 75% off really isn't that hard for me. Mom bought me some of the outfits, and the rest I bought with my own allowance. Some of the shirts were only $2.00!
Day 75
January 31, 2009
Dear Diary, Some clothing store is going out of business and Mom said when my dad gets home from the gym, that we can go. They're supposed to be having really good sales. Better bring that calculator! I think I need some new shoes. Hopefully they have some cute stuff left in my size.
Day 74
January 26, 2009
Dear Diary, This afternoon I had to go in for my post surgery check up. The doctor says I'm healing just fine, and just reminded me about treating the kidney I have like gold. I told him I've been doing really good with drinking my water and using the bathroom. It's kind of a pain, but I don't think I have a choice. Mom said she's proud of how good I've been doing-
Day 73
January 23, 2009
Dear Diary, School is good. The only difference now is that my teacher has to help me remember to drink my water. I'm supposed to drink like 4 bottles a day. And I have to make sure I use the bathroom every two hours, even if I don't feel like I have to go. Ahh the fun of having only one kidney! Oh well, at least I'm okay, right?
Day 72
January 17, 2009
Dear Diary, The surgery was not bad at all. I was a little bit sore the day after, but then not so bad after that. My teacher and my friends all sent me balloons and flowers. Wasn't that nice? I get to go back to school on Monday, and I can't wait! My teacher Ms. Dixon had already brought over my work so I wouldn't get behind the class from missing a few days, so I should be all caught up.
Day 71
January 13, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm getting kind of nervous now. The surgery is tomorrow. It's only a day surgery, so I won't have to stay long in the hospital. I'm just worried how I will feel after. The doctor said I might be uncomfortable for a couple of days, but that should be it. My dad is so sweet! He brought me this new huge stuffed panda to keep me company in the hospital. How cute!
Day 70
January 5, 2009
Dear Diary, We met with the surgeon this morning, and he says my test results are really good. The one kidney I have is in great shape, but I do have some kidney stones that have to be removed. I guess they use a laser or something, so it shouldn't be so bad. It sounds like they'll probably do it next week. Figures, school starts tomorrow and I'm already going to be missing a couple days next week...
Day 69
December 30, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, my doctor called already today and he wanted to see my parents and me in his office this afternoon. He told us that I only have one kidney. It seemed kind of strange because how would you ever know you were missing one? And I was a little scared at first too. But the doctor says I'll be okay, I just have to treat the one kidney I have like gold. That means drinking lots of water and not eating too many dairy foods. I thought that meant no icecream, but the doctor said I can still have it once in a while. Whew!
Day 68
December 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I have to go to the doctor's this afternoon to get an ultrasound done. You see, ever since I was little I've had this problem. I um, sometimes don't make it to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I don't know why, it just happens. And I also have had a few bladder infections. So now my doctor wants me to have an ultrasound just to make sure everything looks okay. I'll let you know how it goes.
Day 67
December 20, 2008
Dear Diary, Right now I'm over at my Nana's house with Jake, Kate and our dad. Mom is hosting some book club party at our house. No dads or kids allowed I guess. A party to talk about books they've read? Whatever. I would love to know how long we're going to be here since I didn't bring anything to spend the night with. I'm going to go ask my dad.
Day 66
December 18, 2008
Dear Diary, Every year during the holidays, there's a big firetruck that drives through every neighborhood. It's all decked out in lights and people throw candy to all the kids standing on the sidewalks. Too bad they can't throw icecream cones! But it really is a neat tradition. Ever since I was a little girl, I remember running outside when we would hear the siren coming around.
Day 65
December 13, 2008
Dear Diary, I did end up calling Kami, which was hard for me, but we're best friends. I wasn't going to let my opinion on her outfit change that. Kami said she wasn't really mad, especially since she asked me what I thought about her new outfit. She just was disappointed. I apologized to her. So I think everything's okay now, as long as I don't say anything about Kami's clothes again, and you don't have to worry about that!
Day 64
December 10, 2008
Dear Diary, I think Kami might be upset with me. Earlier at school she asked me if I liked her new outfit she was wearing. I didn't want to lie to her, but I didn't want to be mean either. So I told her it was okay. It wasn't completely a lie, but I figured it was the best answer. The shirt and the pants didn't match! She got this look on her face that definitely looked upset. If she doesn't call soon, I'm going to call her.
Day 63
November 25, 2008
Dear Diary, Do you know what today is? It's planning day. That's right, all the big sale ads are in the newspaper today, so that means it's time to get ready for the best shopping day of the year! Our whole family is going this year. We're going to shop for our adopted family, and then maybe a little for us too!
Day 62
November 20, 2008
Dear Diary, Every year my family adopts another family for the holidays. We usually ask them for a wish list of things they need. It's always so much fun going shopping for them. And knowing what a great deal finder I am, I can find enough good sales to be able to get more gifts for them for less money. This year the family we found asked for a toddler bed for their little boy, and a folding table set for the older daughter. Mom says we can add clothes and some other things too.
Day 61
November 13, 2008
Dear Diary, Sales, sales, and more sales! It seems like all the stores at the mall are having sales all the time now. Mom said it's something about the economy not doing very good and so the stores are trying to get people to shop more by having good sales. Today we got these $20 off coupons in the mail for one of my favorite stores. I can't wait to use that!
Day 60
November 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Yes, I have a cold. But I really don't feel that bad. My cough just makes it hard to sleep. I'm fine until I lay down, and then my throat gets this little tickle and I can't stop coughing! Poor Kate! Hopefully she didn't hear me coughing all night.
Day 59
November 6, 2008
Dear Diary, My throat is sore AGAIN! It feels like I just got over being sick. I love the fall, but I hate that once it gets cold outside it seems like you're always sick, or maybe it's just me. Of course I won't be sick during the school week...I'll end up sick for the weekend since tomorrow is Friday. Boo!
Day 58
November 3, 2008
Dear Diary, Tomorrow we're have a mock election in school. We're also going to vote on some amendments to our school rules, which is kind of neat. Things like, should the soda machines be turned off until the last bell rings. And we're even going to vote for who we think should be the next president of the United States. I have no idea who I want to vote for yet. Hopefully I'll know by tomorrow!
Day 57
October 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I wish I could dress up as one of my two favorite things, but I haven't seen any icecream or panda costumes. I think this year I might just wear an orange Halloween shirt. I saw one at the mall that had black sparkly spiders all over it. That can be my costume.
Day 56
October 28, 2008
Dear Diary, My sister Kate likes to play school. She doesn't like to be the teacher though, she wants me to be the one to give the homework. I think it makes her feel like a big girl to be the student. She can't really do any math yet, but we have fun pretending. Or at least we have fun until Jake walks over and starts chewing and drooling on everything!
Day 55
October 24, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm going to spend the night tonight at Kami's house! I'm all packed and ready to go. I'm just waiting for my baby brother to wake up from his nap so Mom can drive me over there. I have no idea what Kami and I are doing tonight, but I'm sure we'll have fun, we always do!
Day 54
October 21, 2008
Dear Diary, This morning Mom had her book club meeting while I was at school. I'm kind of jealous. Before school she was busy setting up plates of brownies and muffins and other yummy stuff for her friends. I wish I could be in a book club. Change that, maybe a math club instead, since I'm better at math!
Day 53
October 18, 2008
Dear Diary, Sometimes it's hard having little brothers and sisters. That means there's always someone right there pulling on you to play with them. Mom says that someday I'll be glad. I do love them, it's just hard to have any personal space sometimes. The one place I can go is out on the porch. Thankfully Mom lets me go out there while Kate and Jake stay inside with her. At least that gives me a little time by myself!
Day 52
October 16, 2008
Dear Diary, Kami and I wanted to go to the park after school today, but now we can't since it's raining. I actually had to ride my bike home in the rain. At least it wasn't pouring, but still I was pretty wet. Well, there's always tomorrow I guess.
Day 51
October 11, 2008
Dear Diary, I had to go get a flu shot yesterday. Well, actually, we all did, Jake, Kate, and me. It didn't hurt that bad really but my arm is a little bit sore in that one spot. Anything to keep from getting the flu again this year. Last year we were all so sick that Mom swore we would all get the flu shot this year. Hope it helps!
Day 50
October 8, 2008
Dear Diary, It's actually a little bit cold outside today. But you know, it's never too cold for me to eat icecream! Dad said we can go to the icecream place after dinner tonight. I already know just what I want...mint chocolate chip!
Day 49
October 4, 2008
Dear Diary, We went to the mall today and I could not believe all the Halloween and holiday decorations that were everywhere. I guess Halloween is right around the corner. Jake wants to be a clone trooper, and Kate is going to be a princess. I have no idea what I want to be yet. I better get thinking, huh?
Day 48
October 2, 2008
Dear Diary, I really wish I could learn to type on the computer keyboard like Mom does. It seems like it would be so much faster. Mom said to get a book and teach myself, but I think I'll wait. In middle school they have a typing class you can take where they teach you how to type fast.
Day 47
September 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I feel a little better today, enough to go to school. At least my fever is gone, now I'm just a little stuffy. Besides, Monday is math quiz bowl day where we do a game show with math questions. I would hate to miss that!
Day 46
September 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, now I'm sick too. I hate being sick, not that anyone likes it. It's hard when Kate and I share a room. I can't tell her to keep her germs on her side only. It would be nice, but it doesn't work. I just hope that I'll feel better by tomorrow for school. I hate staying home sick. My parents don't let you do anything when you have to stay home. They say if you're well enough to watch tv, then you're well enough to go to school. How boring!
Day 45
September 26, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, it looks like no trip to the mall this weekend. Jake and Kate are both sick and have something called an upper respiratory infection. Mom says she just can't drag them to the mall when they're so sick. Hopefully I won't get sick too. I'll have to find something else to do.
Day 44
September 23, 2008
Dear Diary, I rode my bike to Kami's house after school. We did our homework first, and then we looked through some magazines. I love looking at all the new styles of clothes that come out. It's almost as fun as going to the mall, but not quite. Maybe I can get Mom to take me to the mall next weekend. It is my favorite place to go!
Day 43
September 18, 2008
Dear Diary, Would you believe that I found my panda in the garbage can again? I noticed he was missing off my bed and decided to look around. And there he was, back in the office garbage can! I think I better keep him up on one of my shelves until Jake learns what's garbage and what's not.
Day 42
September 16, 2008
Dear Diary, I almost lost my favorite panda today! I was taking out all the house garbages since tomorrow is trash day. Anyways, I found my favorite panda bear in the bottom of the office garbage can! Mom thinks that my baby brother Jake must have put it in there. He has this habit of throwing things in the garbage that don't belong in there, like books, toys, and now panda bears. Luckily I noticed it before it got thrown away!
Day 41
September 12, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom said after I get my chores done tomorrow morning I can go to the mall with Kami and her mom. Even if I don't have anything to buy, I love walking through the mall and seeing all the things in the windows. Pretty soon all the holiday displays will be going up, and that's the best! I need to see how much allowance I have saved up, maybe there will be a big sale or something.
Day 40
September 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Kami and I ride our bikes to school together every day. Today it started raining when we were on our way home! When you ride in the rain, all the dirt gets splashed up on you. We were soaked, but at least it happned on our way home and not in the morning. Kami and I were laughing the whole way home!
Day 39
September 7, 2008
Dear Diary, Today I have to help watch Jake and Kate while Mom and Dad work in the yard. It's hard because I have to watch them inside even though they both know our parents are outside. Of course they would much rather be out there with them. We could color, but then Jake eats the crayons. Maybe I'll see if they want to build a fort or something. At least then Jake can crawl around in it.
Day 38
September 4, 2008
Dear Diary, My mom had all her friends over for her book club meeting last night. I'm not sure how much talking they do about the book they read. Seems to me like more of a party with coffee and appetizers. But at least some of the kids came over too and we got to play in the playroom.
Day 37
August 29, 2008
Dear Diary, My mom really is the best! She came home last night with the most adorable backpack for me for school. It has the sweetest looking panda bear on the back pouch. I love it! I have never seen one like it before. I can't wait to show Kami at school on Tuesday. Tuesday is almost here for school to start!
Day 36
August 28, 2008
Dear Diary, I like school, but I'm also looking forward to getting out of our house. Between my little sister Kate and my baby brother Jake, it's crazy around here. I don't know how my mom does it every day. I love them all, but there's like nowhere to go to get away. I share my room with Kate. Right now she's sitting across the room playing with her dolls. It's not like I have any deep dark secrets to write down, but sometimes privacy is nice.
Day 35
August 26, 2008
Dear Diary, This morning we went to register for school. It starts next week afterall. The woman at my school asked me what my nickaname is. I told her I don't have one. She seemed kind of surprised, so I told her I didn't want a nickname. Everybody calls me "Samantha". I could have been "Sam" or "Sammy", but I'm so used to using my full name that it would just seem weird.
Day 34
August 22, 2008
Dear Diary, Well I did have fun swimming at Kami's the other day. But now I'm not having fun. Apparently some of the water from pool was trapped in my ear. Last night I didn't sleep well because my ear hurt so bad. Mom took me to see the pediatrician this morning, and he said I have swimmer's ear. He said inside my ear was all infected and that it is actually green next to my eardrum. I didn't need that much information about it though-ewwwww. So now I'm on some antibiotic eardrops to make it go away.
Day 33
August 18, 2008
Dear Diary, After I get done with tutoring at the library this morning, I'm going over to Kami's house. We may not have a swimming pool, but she does! I can't wait! It's been so hot outside, I hope we stay in the pool all day. I love my brother and sister, but it will be kind of nice to get a break away from them.
Day 32
August 15, 2008
Dear Diary, It's been raining all morning. Kate is happy to play in her playhouse, but I want to go outside. Mom said I can play in the rain as long as it's not thundering or lightning. That might be fun to run around in. Maybe I'll see if my brother and sister want to go out in the rain too.
Day 31
August 14, 2008
Dear Diary, My little sister Kate got the cutest little playhouse. It's a little small for me to get through the door, but we've been having fun playing in it. She likes to pretend we're in a restaurant. She takes my order and then brings me my food.
Day 30
August 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Now that I'm over the flu, Mom's on a war path about cleaning the house. She says we have to get this huge list of things done before school starts. Why do we have to dust baseboards anyway? Time to get started I guess.
Day 29
August 5, 2008
Dear Diary, I had to miss tutoring today since I have the flu. Yuck! I hate the flu. I guess I'm a little better today than I was yesterday. My whole body aches though. What a horrible feeling! I think I'm going to go take a nice long shower to make me feel better.
Day 28
August 2, 2008
Dear Diary, I cannot believe all the school clothes I found on sale at the mall! Mom said I'm like a little calculator moving from rack to rack figuring out how many shirts I can get at what price. It pays to be good at math! Besides I figure that I can get more clothes if they're not costing as much. I love a good sale!
Day 27
July 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm so excited! They're having a big back to school sale at the mall this week! Mom says we can go to look for school clothes. I've grown taller over the summer and a lot of my pants are too short now. And then I also need a few new shirts. Mom said maybe just the two of us could go one night and make it girl night just for us.
Day 26
July 26, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm so bored! My baby brother is napping. Kate is playing her computer game. And Mom is exercising to one of her workout dvd's. How boring is that? I would rather dance than just do situps and pushups and all that. I think I'm going to call Kami and see if she wants to come over today.
Day 25
July 22, 2008
Dear Diary, Last night we had the best icecream. We went to this little icecream shop that lets you pick all these mix-ins. I had mine with chocolate, caramel, cookie dough and chocolate chips. I think it may have been my best icecream ever!
Day 24
July 19, 2008
Dear Diary, I know it's summer, but I'm so jealous that the kids next door have a pool they can swim in. I can hear them over there, laughing and having a good time. Mom says just go make friends with them and they'll invite me over to swim. I know them, that's not the problem. But they're pretty little compared to me. I would feel kind of stupid asking to play with them.
Day 23
July 15, 2008
Dear Diary, This is the worst haircut I've ever had. My mom took me to some new hairdresser. I don't think she understood that I just wanted my hair trimmed a little. I like it long. Well, before I could say anything, she was cutting short layers in my hair. By the time she was done, I wanted to cry. It's still long, but it has all these layers now. Mom keeps saying,"Oh it's only hair Samantha, it will grow back." Well, but I liked my hair just fine the way it was. I don't want to go back to that lady again.
Day 22
July 12, 2008
Dear Diary, My little sister Kate can be such a little pest sometimes. Every night she comes out of our room about a million times before she falls asleep. First it's for a drink of water. Then she has to go to the bathroom. Then she heard a noise, or forgot to tell my mom something. I swear she's just trying to stay up later like me.
Day 21
July 7, 2008
Dear Diary, The student I tutored at the library yesterday is actually a year older than me. Her name is Holly, and she needs help with fractions. I'll be helping her one day a week. The second tutoring day each week will be someone else. So far so good.
Day 20
July 6, 2008
Dear Diary, Fourth of July was a blast! I went with Kami's family to watch the fireworks. We brought a picnic to the park and everything. Now I have to get ready for tutoring, which starts tomorrow at the library. I'm anxious to see who I'll be helping and what math they need help with.
Day 19
July 4, 2008
Dear Diary, I am going with Kami's family tonight to watch the fireworks. I was kind of surprised my parents said it was okay. Usually we do that as a family. I wonder what I should wear? Maybe I'll call Kami and see what she's wearing.
Day 18
July 1, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom just found me something else to do for the rest of the summer. She signed me up to be a math tutor at the library. That's kind of cool. I don't get paid or anything, but that's okay. It's kind of fun teaching other people how to do math. Besides, it's only two days a week for a couple hours.
Day 17
June 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Maybe I'm just unlucky this week. First I lost my money at the mall. Then today, Mom washed my new shirt in the laundry. Dad must have left a pen in his shirt pocket or something, because the entire load of clothes is ruined from pen ink. It smeared all over the clothes in the dryer. And all over my brand new cool shirt.
Day 16
June 25, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom took Kami and me to the mall yesterday, just like she said she would. It was pretty crowded, and we saw a lot of kids from school there. The only bad part was that I couldn't find my money when I wanted to buy a new cool shirt. I could have sworn I put it in my wallet, but it wasn't there. Mom said she would give me the money this time, but that I need to keep better track of my money. Thank you Mom for being so cool and understanding.
Day 15
June 24, 2008
Dear Diary, Yeah! Now that Kami is feeling better, she's coming over to spend the night. I was so sad last week when she was sick and couldn't come. My mom said maybe we can even go to the mall tonight to look around. I have some allowance money saved up, so that would be fun.
Day 14
June 22, 2008
Dear Diary, I don't feel so good. This afternoon we had a block party in my neighborhood. There was a DJ playing music. They even had a bounce house and lots and lots of food. I think I ate too many sweets! By the time we got home, I wasn't feeling so good. I actually ran to the bathroom and got sick. I still love icecream, but I think I'll wait a few days before I eat it again.
Day 13
June 18, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm so bummed. Kami was supposed to come over tonight for a sleepover, but she can't. She called before lunch and said she has the flu. I know it's not her fault, but it still stinks. Our moms said we can do it next week instead, but that seems so far away. I guess we'll have to wait.
Day 12
June 15, 2008
Dear Diary, In honor of Father's Day, we let Dad pick what he wanted to do for his special day. I thought he'd say picnic at the park, or for us to make a nice dinner...but no, he wanted to play golf! And I don't mean put-put golf. So my sister Kate and I went and played golf with our dad. Or should I say, he played and we had fun riding in the golf cart. It was kind of fun I guess. And Dad said it was just how he wanted his Father's Day to be.
Day 11
June 13, 2008
Dear Diary, The movie was very funny! I think my sister liked it even more than I did. I can't remember the last time Mom or Dad took us all to the movies. Usually we rent them and stay at home. That's fun too, but it's not the same as seeing it in the theater. Too bad Mom didn't stop at the mall afterwards though. It was getting to close to dinner time. Maybe next time she said.
Day 10
June 11, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom is taking us kids to the movies this afternoon. We're going to see the Kung Fu Panda movie. I absolutely love pandas, so I hope it's good. It looks pretty funny. Then after the movie, I hope I can convince Mom to stop at the mall. Now that it's summer, they have all these super cute clothes I want to look at.
Day 9
June 7, 2008
Dear Diary, You know I love my family. But sometimes, with all five of us in the house, it feels like you can't be alone. There's always someone right there. Especially since my sister and I share a room. Dad says someday we'll add on to our house so I can have my own room. I hope someday is soon!
Day 8
June 5, 2008
Dear Diary, You know the best part about summer? All the icecream you can eat now that it's so hot outside. There is the coolest icecream shop around the corner. They mix in as many different toppings as you want. My favorite has caramel, fudge, and cookie dough with vanilla icecream. That's the best!
Day 7
April 25, 2008
Dear Diary, I am so excited because we are on our way to Kansas City for the weekend! We are even going to stay in a hotel in the Plaza! My sister and I are wearing matching outfits because sometimes we like to do that. Not babyish, silly clothes, but cute funky stuff that my mom finds in both our sizes. Sometimes, my mom likes to match with us too. She is really little and cute, sort of kid-sized, so she fits into the same stuff. People always say that we look good together.
Day 6
April 21, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, guess what? We didn’t even go to Kansas City last weekend for 2 reasons. Well, my stinky little brother was sick, so my mom felt bad about leaving him at Gramma’s. Personally, I thought he looked okay, but nobody asked me my opinion. And, the Royals weren’t in town, so my dad decided we should just go this coming weekend instead. That way, we can go to the game and my brother should be all better by then.
Day 5
April 18, 2008
Dear Diary, I just got the best news! My mom just told me that we are going to Kansas City this weekend. I just adore the city. I think we are even going shopping in the Plaza. I think my dad wants to try and see a baseball game, but we have to see if the Royals are in town or not. And here’s the best part, we are leaving my little brother at Gramma’s house!! YAY!!
Day 4
April 15, 2008
Dear Diary: My sleepover was so much fun. I invited my friend Kami. We ran around like maniacs, ate candy and popcorn, watched movies, had a pillow fight, and stayed up really late talking. I can tell Kami anything, and she will never tell my secrets.
Day 3
March 27, 2008
Dear Diary, Hooray! My mom said that I could have a sleepover tomorrow! I am still not sure who to invite. I have a lot of friends and it is really hard to choose just one!
Day 2
March 24, 2008
Dear Diary, I got new flip-flops! They are purple and pink. My little brother almost got a hold of them, but I snatched them away. Guess what? Moms do not like when you snatch stuff from your little brother, even if it is yours to begin with. If I would have taken the time to ask nicely and politely, my new shoes would be covered in baby slobber by now!
Day 1
March 21, 2008
Dear Diary, I had to go to dance today. It was sort of fun, but I miss my old studio! You see, my old studio was so far away from my house that I had to change studios! It was really sad, but anyway, my mom said that if I’m good, she will take me to the mall tomorrow to get some new flip flops! I can’t wait!
