Samantha's Diary
Day 61
November 13, 2008
Dear Diary, Sales, sales, and more sales! It seems like all the stores at the mall are having sales all the time now. Mom said it's something about the economy not doing very good and so the stores are trying to get people to shop more by having good sales. Today we got these $20 off coupons in the mail for one of my favorite stores. I can't wait to use that!
Day 60
November 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Yes, I have a cold. But I really don't feel that bad. My cough just makes it hard to sleep. I'm fine until I lay down, and then my throat gets this little tickle and I can't stop coughing! Poor Kate! Hopefully she didn't hear me coughing all night.
Day 59
November 6, 2008
Dear Diary, My throat is sore AGAIN! It feels like I just got over being sick. I love the fall, but I hate that once it gets cold outside it seems like you're always sick, or maybe it's just me. Of course I won't be sick during the school week...I'll end up sick for the weekend since tomorrow is Friday. Boo!
Day 58
November 3, 2008
Dear Diary, Tomorrow we're have a mock election in school. We're also going to vote on some amendments to our school rules, which is kind of neat. Things like, should the soda machines be turned off until the last bell rings. And we're even going to vote for who we think should be the next president of the United States. I have no idea who I want to vote for yet. Hopefully I'll know by tomorrow!
Day 57
October 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I wish I could dress up as one of my two favorite things, but I haven't seen any icecream or panda costumes. I think this year I might just wear an orange Halloween shirt. I saw one at the mall that had black sparkly spiders all over it. That can be my costume.
Day 56
October 28, 2008
Dear Diary, My sister Kate likes to play school. She doesn't like to be the teacher though, she wants me to be the one to give the homework. I think it makes her feel like a big girl to be the student. She can't really do any math yet, but we have fun pretending. Or at least we have fun until Jake walks over and starts chewing and drooling on everything!
Day 55
October 24, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm going to spend the night tonight at Kami's house! I'm all packed and ready to go. I'm just waiting for my baby brother to wake up from his nap so Mom can drive me over there. I have no idea what Kami and I are doing tonight, but I'm sure we'll have fun, we always do!
Day 54
October 21, 2008
Dear Diary, This morning Mom had her book club meeting while I was at school. I'm kind of jealous. Before school she was busy setting up plates of brownies and muffins and other yummy stuff for her friends. I wish I could be in a book club. Change that, maybe a math club instead, since I'm better at math!
Day 53
October 18, 2008
Dear Diary, Sometimes it's hard having little brothers and sisters. That means there's always someone right there pulling on you to play with them. Mom says that someday I'll be glad. I do love them, it's just hard to have any personal space sometimes. The one place I can go is out on the porch. Thankfully Mom lets me go out there while Kate and Jake stay inside with her. At least that gives me a little time by myself!
Day 52
October 16, 2008
Dear Diary, Kami and I wanted to go to the park after school today, but now we can't since it's raining. I actually had to ride my bike home in the rain. At least it wasn't pouring, but still I was pretty wet. Well, there's always tomorrow I guess.
Day 51
October 11, 2008
Dear Diary, I had to go get a flu shot yesterday. Well, actually, we all did, Jake, Kate, and me. It didn't hurt that bad really but my arm is a little bit sore in that one spot. Anything to keep from getting the flu again this year. Last year we were all so sick that Mom swore we would all get the flu shot this year. Hope it helps!
Day 50
October 8, 2008
Dear Diary, It's actually a little bit cold outside today. But you know, it's never too cold for me to eat icecream! Dad said we can go to the icecream place after dinner tonight. I already know just what I want...mint chocolate chip!
Day 49
October 4, 2008
Dear Diary, We went to the mall today and I could not believe all the Halloween and holiday decorations that were everywhere. I guess Halloween is right around the corner. Jake wants to be a clone trooper, and Kate is going to be a princess. I have no idea what I want to be yet. I better get thinking, huh?
Day 48
October 2, 2008
Dear Diary, I really wish I could learn to type on the computer keyboard like Mom does. It seems like it would be so much faster. Mom said to get a book and teach myself, but I think I'll wait. In middle school they have a typing class you can take where they teach you how to type fast.
Day 47
September 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I feel a little better today, enough to go to school. At least my fever is gone, now I'm just a little stuffy. Besides, Monday is math quiz bowl day where we do a game show with math questions. I would hate to miss that!
Day 46
September 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, now I'm sick too. I hate being sick, not that anyone likes it. It's hard when Kate and I share a room. I can't tell her to keep her germs on her side only. It would be nice, but it doesn't work. I just hope that I'll feel better by tomorrow for school. I hate staying home sick. My parents don't let you do anything when you have to stay home. They say if you're well enough to watch tv, then you're well enough to go to school. How boring!
Day 45
September 26, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, it looks like no trip to the mall this weekend. Jake and Kate are both sick and have something called an upper respiratory infection. Mom says she just can't drag them to the mall when they're so sick. Hopefully I won't get sick too. I'll have to find something else to do.
Day 44
September 23, 2008
Dear Diary, I rode my bike to Kami's house after school. We did our homework first, and then we looked through some magazines. I love looking at all the new styles of clothes that come out. It's almost as fun as going to the mall, but not quite. Maybe I can get Mom to take me to the mall next weekend. It is my favorite place to go!
Day 43
September 18, 2008
Dear Diary, Would you believe that I found my panda in the garbage can again? I noticed he was missing off my bed and decided to look around. And there he was, back in the office garbage can! I think I better keep him up on one of my shelves until Jake learns what's garbage and what's not.
Day 42
September 16, 2008
Dear Diary, I almost lost my favorite panda today! I was taking out all the house garbages since tomorrow is trash day. Anyways, I found my favorite panda bear in the bottom of the office garbage can! Mom thinks that my baby brother Jake must have put it in there. He has this habit of throwing things in the garbage that don't belong in there, like books, toys, and now panda bears. Luckily I noticed it before it got thrown away!
Day 41
September 12, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom said after I get my chores done tomorrow morning I can go to the mall with Kami and her mom. Even if I don't have anything to buy, I love walking through the mall and seeing all the things in the windows. Pretty soon all the holiday displays will be going up, and that's the best! I need to see how much allowance I have saved up, maybe there will be a big sale or something.
Day 40
September 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Kami and I ride our bikes to school together every day. Today it started raining when we were on our way home! When you ride in the rain, all the dirt gets splashed up on you. We were soaked, but at least it happned on our way home and not in the morning. Kami and I were laughing the whole way home!
Day 39
September 7, 2008
Dear Diary, Today I have to help watch Jake and Kate while Mom and Dad work in the yard. It's hard because I have to watch them inside even though they both know our parents are outside. Of course they would much rather be out there with them. We could color, but then Jake eats the crayons. Maybe I'll see if they want to build a fort or something. At least then Jake can crawl around in it.
Day 38
September 4, 2008
Dear Diary, My mom had all her friends over for her book club meeting last night. I'm not sure how much talking they do about the book they read. Seems to me like more of a party with coffee and appetizers. But at least some of the kids came over too and we got to play in the playroom.
Day 37
August 29, 2008
Dear Diary, My mom really is the best! She came home last night with the most adorable backpack for me for school. It has the sweetest looking panda bear on the back pouch. I love it! I have never seen one like it before. I can't wait to show Kami at school on Tuesday. Tuesday is almost here for school to start!
Day 36
August 28, 2008
Dear Diary, I like school, but I'm also looking forward to getting out of our house. Between my little sister Kate and my baby brother Jake, it's crazy around here. I don't know how my mom does it every day. I love them all, but there's like nowhere to go to get away. I share my room with Kate. Right now she's sitting across the room playing with her dolls. It's not like I have any deep dark secrets to write down, but sometimes privacy is nice.
Day 35
August 26, 2008
Dear Diary, This morning we went to register for school. It starts next week afterall. The woman at my school asked me what my nickaname is. I told her I don't have one. She seemed kind of surprised, so I told her I didn't want a nickname. Everybody calls me "Samantha". I could have been "Sam" or "Sammy", but I'm so used to using my full name that it would just seem weird.
Day 34
August 22, 2008
Dear Diary, Well I did have fun swimming at Kami's the other day. But now I'm not having fun. Apparently some of the water from pool was trapped in my ear. Last night I didn't sleep well because my ear hurt so bad. Mom took me to see the pediatrician this morning, and he said I have swimmer's ear. He said inside my ear was all infected and that it is actually green next to my eardrum. I didn't need that much information about it though-ewwwww. So now I'm on some antibiotic eardrops to make it go away.
Day 33
August 18, 2008
Dear Diary, After I get done with tutoring at the library this morning, I'm going over to Kami's house. We may not have a swimming pool, but she does! I can't wait! It's been so hot outside, I hope we stay in the pool all day. I love my brother and sister, but it will be kind of nice to get a break away from them.
Day 32
August 15, 2008
Dear Diary, It's been raining all morning. Kate is happy to play in her playhouse, but I want to go outside. Mom said I can play in the rain as long as it's not thundering or lightning. That might be fun to run around in. Maybe I'll see if my brother and sister want to go out in the rain too.
Day 31
August 14, 2008
Dear Diary, My little sister Kate got the cutest little playhouse. It's a little small for me to get through the door, but we've been having fun playing in it. She likes to pretend we're in a restaurant. She takes my order and then brings me my food.
Day 30
August 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Now that I'm over the flu, Mom's on a war path about cleaning the house. She says we have to get this huge list of things done before school starts. Why do we have to dust baseboards anyway? Time to get started I guess.
Day 29
August 5, 2008
Dear Diary, I had to miss tutoring today since I have the flu. Yuck! I hate the flu. I guess I'm a little better today than I was yesterday. My whole body aches though. What a horrible feeling! I think I'm going to go take a nice long shower to make me feel better.
Day 28
August 2, 2008
Dear Diary, I cannot believe all the school clothes I found on sale at the mall! Mom said I'm like a little calculator moving from rack to rack figuring out how many shirts I can get at what price. It pays to be good at math! Besides I figure that I can get more clothes if they're not costing as much. I love a good sale!
Day 27
July 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm so excited! They're having a big back to school sale at the mall this week! Mom says we can go to look for school clothes. I've grown taller over the summer and a lot of my pants are too short now. And then I also need a few new shirts. Mom said maybe just the two of us could go one night and make it girl night just for us.
Day 26
July 26, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm so bored! My baby brother is napping. Kate is playing her computer game. And Mom is exercising to one of her workout dvd's. How boring is that? I would rather dance than just do situps and pushups and all that. I think I'm going to call Kami and see if she wants to come over today.
Day 25
July 22, 2008
Dear Diary, Last night we had the best icecream. We went to this little icecream shop that lets you pick all these mix-ins. I had mine with chocolate, caramel, cookie dough and chocolate chips. I think it may have been my best icecream ever!
Day 24
July 19, 2008
Dear Diary, I know it's summer, but I'm so jealous that the kids next door have a pool they can swim in. I can hear them over there, laughing and having a good time. Mom says just go make friends with them and they'll invite me over to swim. I know them, that's not the problem. But they're pretty little compared to me. I would feel kind of stupid asking to play with them.
Day 23
July 15, 2008
Dear Diary, This is the worst haircut I've ever had. My mom took me to some new hairdresser. I don't think she understood that I just wanted my hair trimmed a little. I like it long. Well, before I could say anything, she was cutting short layers in my hair. By the time she was done, I wanted to cry. It's still long, but it has all these layers now. Mom keeps saying,"Oh it's only hair Samantha, it will grow back." Well, but I liked my hair just fine the way it was. I don't want to go back to that lady again.
Day 22
July 12, 2008
Dear Diary, My little sister Kate can be such a little pest sometimes. Every night she comes out of our room about a million times before she falls asleep. First it's for a drink of water. Then she has to go to the bathroom. Then she heard a noise, or forgot to tell my mom something. I swear she's just trying to stay up later like me.
Day 21
July 7, 2008
Dear Diary, The student I tutored at the library yesterday is actually a year older than me. Her name is Holly, and she needs help with fractions. I'll be helping her one day a week. The second tutoring day each week will be someone else. So far so good.
Day 20
July 6, 2008
Dear Diary, Fourth of July was a blast! I went with Kami's family to watch the fireworks. We brought a picnic to the park and everything. Now I have to get ready for tutoring, which starts tomorrow at the library. I'm anxious to see who I'll be helping and what math they need help with.
Day 19
July 4, 2008
Dear Diary, I am going with Kami's family tonight to watch the fireworks. I was kind of surprised my parents said it was okay. Usually we do that as a family. I wonder what I should wear? Maybe I'll call Kami and see what she's wearing.
Day 18
July 1, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom just found me something else to do for the rest of the summer. She signed me up to be a math tutor at the library. That's kind of cool. I don't get paid or anything, but that's okay. It's kind of fun teaching other people how to do math. Besides, it's only two days a week for a couple hours.
Day 17
June 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Maybe I'm just unlucky this week. First I lost my money at the mall. Then today, Mom washed my new shirt in the laundry. Dad must have left a pen in his shirt pocket or something, because the entire load of clothes is ruined from pen ink. It smeared all over the clothes in the dryer. And all over my brand new cool shirt.
Day 16
June 25, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom took Kami and me to the mall yesterday, just like she said she would. It was pretty crowded, and we saw a lot of kids from school there. The only bad part was that I couldn't find my money when I wanted to buy a new cool shirt. I could have sworn I put it in my wallet, but it wasn't there. Mom said she would give me the money this time, but that I need to keep better track of my money. Thank you Mom for being so cool and understanding.
Day 15
June 24, 2008
Dear Diary, Yeah! Now that Kami is feeling better, she's coming over to spend the night. I was so sad last week when she was sick and couldn't come. My mom said maybe we can even go to the mall tonight to look around. I have some allowance money saved up, so that would be fun.
Day 14
June 22, 2008
Dear Diary, I don't feel so good. This afternoon we had a block party in my neighborhood. There was a DJ playing music. They even had a bounce house and lots and lots of food. I think I ate too many sweets! By the time we got home, I wasn't feeling so good. I actually ran to the bathroom and got sick. I still love icecream, but I think I'll wait a few days before I eat it again.
Day 13
June 18, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm so bummed. Kami was supposed to come over tonight for a sleepover, but she can't. She called before lunch and said she has the flu. I know it's not her fault, but it still stinks. Our moms said we can do it next week instead, but that seems so far away. I guess we'll have to wait.
Day 12
June 15, 2008
Dear Diary, In honor of Father's Day, we let Dad pick what he wanted to do for his special day. I thought he'd say picnic at the park, or for us to make a nice dinner...but no, he wanted to play golf! And I don't mean put-put golf. So my sister Kate and I went and played golf with our dad. Or should I say, he played and we had fun riding in the golf cart. It was kind of fun I guess. And Dad said it was just how he wanted his Father's Day to be.
Day 11
June 13, 2008
Dear Diary, The movie was very funny! I think my sister liked it even more than I did. I can't remember the last time Mom or Dad took us all to the movies. Usually we rent them and stay at home. That's fun too, but it's not the same as seeing it in the theater. Too bad Mom didn't stop at the mall afterwards though. It was getting to close to dinner time. Maybe next time she said.
Day 10
June 11, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom is taking us kids to the movies this afternoon. We're going to see the Kung Fu Panda movie. I absolutely love pandas, so I hope it's good. It looks pretty funny. Then after the movie, I hope I can convince Mom to stop at the mall. Now that it's summer, they have all these super cute clothes I want to look at.
Day 9
June 7, 2008
Dear Diary, You know I love my family. But sometimes, with all five of us in the house, it feels like you can't be alone. There's always someone right there. Especially since my sister and I share a room. Dad says someday we'll add on to our house so I can have my own room. I hope someday is soon!
Day 8
June 5, 2008
Dear Diary, You know the best part about summer? All the icecream you can eat now that it's so hot outside. There is the coolest icecream shop around the corner. They mix in as many different toppings as you want. My favorite has caramel, fudge, and cookie dough with vanilla icecream. That's the best!
Day 7
April 25, 2008
Dear Diary, I am so excited because we are on our way to Kansas City for the weekend! We are even going to stay in a hotel in the Plaza! My sister and I are wearing matching outfits because sometimes we like to do that. Not babyish, silly clothes, but cute funky stuff that my mom finds in both our sizes. Sometimes, my mom likes to match with us too. She is really little and cute, sort of kid-sized, so she fits into the same stuff. People always say that we look good together.
Day 6
April 21, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, guess what? We didn’t even go to Kansas City last weekend for 2 reasons. Well, my stinky little brother was sick, so my mom felt bad about leaving him at Gramma’s. Personally, I thought he looked okay, but nobody asked me my opinion. And, the Royals weren’t in town, so my dad decided we should just go this coming weekend instead. That way, we can go to the game and my brother should be all better by then.
Day 5
April 18, 2008
Dear Diary, I just got the best news! My mom just told me that we are going to Kansas City this weekend. I just adore the city. I think we are even going shopping in the Plaza. I think my dad wants to try and see a baseball game, but we have to see if the Royals are in town or not. And here’s the best part, we are leaving my little brother at Gramma’s house!! YAY!!
Day 4
April 15, 2008
Dear Diary: My sleepover was so much fun. I invited my friend Kami. We ran around like maniacs, ate candy and popcorn, watched movies, had a pillow fight, and stayed up really late talking. I can tell Kami anything, and she will never tell my secrets.
Day 3
March 27, 2008
Dear Diary, Hooray! My mom said that I could have a sleepover tomorrow! I am still not sure who to invite. I have a lot of friends and it is really hard to choose just one!
Day 2
March 24, 2008
Dear Diary, I got new flip-flops! They are purple and pink. My little brother almost got a hold of them, but I snatched them away. Guess what? Moms do not like when you snatch stuff from your little brother, even if it is yours to begin with. If I would have taken the time to ask nicely and politely, my new shoes would be covered in baby slobber by now!
Day 1
March 21, 2008
Dear Diary, I had to go to dance today. It was sort of fun, but I miss my old studio! You see, my old studio was so far away from my house that I had to change studios! It was really sad, but anyway, my mom said that if I’m good, she will take me to the mall tomorrow to get some new flip flops! I can’t wait!
