Sammy's Diary

Day 67

November 19, 2008

Dear Diary, Alyssa and I were working on our scrapbooks earlier. Yes, Alyssa has one now too. I'm kind of teaching her how to do it as we go. My pages go a little faster than her's, just because I'm used to doing it. I found these new sparkly stickers I love for my scrapbook. Right now I'm working on the pages from Halloween.

Day 66

November 15, 2008

Dear Diary, Do I really need to learn how to do laundry? Grandma seems to think so. This morning after we ate breakfast she said that today was the day for me to start learning. First she taught me how to sort the clothes for the different loads. Then she showed me how to change the washer settings for each kind of clothing. We didn't even get to all the settings on the dryer yet, I'm totally lost! I wish you could just throw all the laundry in at the same time and be done with it.

Day 65

November 13, 2008

Dear Diary, Next week is our last week of school before the Thanksgiving holidays. We're off all week! Grandma wants us to go to the store soon to see what we can use to decorate the table for Thanksgiving. Grandma loves to go all out for holidays!

Day 64

November 10, 2008

Dear Diary, I don't know where Bonkers is today. Usually he's running to the front door as soon as I come home from school. That's kind of strange that he's hiding somewhere. Hold on, I think I hear him running down the hall now. Now he just jumped up on my bed. He must have known I was writing about him! Silly cat, now Bonkers is standing right on my journal, and making it very hard to write. I think he's wants some attention!

Day 63

November 5, 2008

Dear Diary, The symphony yesterday was actually pretty good. I loved hearing the violins play. And Mrs. Bruno was back to herself again, no more grumpies. I sat next to Alyssa during the show and on the bus ride there too. Nicole still lives down the street, but I don't play with her as much lately.

Day 62

November 3, 2008

Dear Diary, I think my teacher must not have had enough sleep last night. Mrs. Bruno is usually very nice, but today she seemed awfully grumpy with everybody in our class. I wanted to ask her what was wrong, but figured that might not be a good idea. Hopefully she'll be back to normal tomorrow, we're going on a fieldtrip to see the symphony perform. I like music, but sometimes long performances get boring. We'll see.

Day 61

October 31, 2008

Dear Diary, In school today we made skeletons out of cotton swabs. It's a lot harder than you think! Then we had to write a spooky poem to share with the class. Of course I wrote mine about a black cat. And since today is Friday, I helped out in Mrs. Wilson's class. They were having a costume parade and a party. I helped pour drinks and get the snacks ready. It was fun!

Day 60

October 27, 2008

Dear Diary, We went to a big Halloween party yesterday. It was pretty fun, until somebody got sick in the bounce house. They're not sure if he has the flu, or if he ate too much pizza. Whichever it was, no one could use the bounce house after that. Yuck! Thankfully, they also had a long rectangular trampoline to run around on. Jack was there too, and we had a good time.

Day 59

October 25, 2008

Dear Diary, Halloween is next Friday already! Jack wants to be Spiderman. I think I'm just going to be a witch, that's pretty easy. It's kind of a tradition that Aunt Cheryl, Uncle Rick and Jack come over for dinner, and then we go trick-or-treating together. I like the candy and all, but the most fun is hanging out on our front porch waiting for the other little kids to come by. Usually we set up a card table and play cards.

Day 58

October 20, 2008

Dear Diary, Alyssa came over this weekend, and she was teaching me how to use her digital camera. We practiced taking pictures of each other, and Bonkers too. It's neat that you can upload the pictures to the computer to save them and you only have to print out the ones you really like. I'm going to print a couple of the ones Grandma took of Alyssa and me so I can add them to my scrapbook.

Day 57

October 17, 2008

Dear Diary, We're going over to my Aunt and Uncle's house for dinner tonight. Aunt Cheryl has some new recipe she wants to try for dinner. As long as it's not a casserole I'll be fine. I'm not really a picky eater, but I like to know what I'm eating when I look at it. That's why I don't like casseroles. When everything is mixed together you can't even tell what it is.

Day 55

October 15, 2008

Dear Diary, I'm a little surprised about the t.v. Grandpa picked out. It's enormous! We always had a small t.v., but Grandpa said he might as well get a big one so he can see the picture better. You can see it from all the way in the kitchen now! He's excited like a little kid now. I bet Jack's going to like watching his cartoons on there too.

Day 54

October 10, 2008

Dear Diary, Well, that didn't take long! Grandpa announced at dinner tonight that we're going shopping for a new t.v. first thing tomorrow. Now he's talking about getting some big screen t.v. so he can see it better. Grandma just sat there shaking her head. Tomorrow should be interesting then.

Day 53

October 9, 2008

Dear Diary, Our tv died a couple days ago. I'm okay without it since I don't watch much t.v. anyway, but Grandpa is going nuts. He doesn't seem to know what to do with himself. First he's outside, then he's inside. I think he is actually bored without it!

Day 52

October 5, 2008

Dear Diary, Sunday.  My favorite sandwich to eat is peanut butter and bananas on oatmeal bread. The only problem is that I can only eat it on the weekends, because if I pack it in my lunch, the bananas get all mushy. And that doesn't taste very good. Grandma is the one who got me to try peanut butter and bananas. At first I thought it sounded weird, but now I'm so glad I tried it.  And right now it's about time for that sandwich!

Day 51

October 3, 2008

Dear Diary, Helping in Mrs. Wilson's class was so much fun! I passed out papers for Mrs. Wilson to the class and helped a couple kids with their math. Then I read a book to this one little girl who was missing her two front teeth. Her name is Lindsey. I can't wait to go again next Friday!

Day 50

September 30, 2008

Dear Diary, My teacher, Mrs. Bruno, said I can do it! I'm allowed to be a helper in Mrs. Wilson's third grade class every Friday afternoon, while the other kids are on the playground. I'm going to start this coming Friday! I don't even know which kids are in her class, but that's okay. I wonder what kinds of things Mrs. Wilson will have for me to do.

Day 49

September 29, 2008

Dear Diary, I got to see Mrs. Wilson after school. I like my new teacher, but Mrs. Wilson was the best! I went to visit her in her classroom before I walked home. She said maybe I could be a teacher helper one afternoon a week, if my teacher says it's okay. That would be awesome!

Day 48

September 25, 2008

Dear Diary, We ended up having eggs and sausage for dinner tonight. Grandpa was really wanting to grill hamburgers, his favorite. Well, when he tried to turn the grill on, the gas was empty, so no hamburgers. He says he'll fill the tank for tomorrow. I was kind of disappointed too, I felt like having hamburgers. I like mine with lots of pickles!

Day 47

September 22, 2008

Dear Diary, When I showed Alyssa my third grade scrapbook, she loved it! I think she was amazed what you can do with pictures. Now she wants to know if I will teach her and help her start her own scrapbook. At least I can share my tools with her so she won't need to get her own. How great would that be to have a friend who likes to do my most favorite thing?

Day 46

September 20, 2008

Dear Diary, Alyssa and I ate lunch together yesterday at school. She's kind of shy like me. I told her about my scrapbooking, and she had no idea what I was talking about! I can't believe there are girls out there who don't scrapbook! Anyways, I told her I would bring one of mine in to school Monday to show her. Alyssa's favorite thing to do is take pictures with her camera.

Day 45

September 16, 2008

Dear Diary, Grandma and I found so much awesome stuff when we went to the outlet the other day. Grandma bought this Halloween countdown calendar she's going to work on. And I found these plastic pumpkins that you can paint. We bought four of them, for Grandpa, Grandma, Jack, and me. Now I just have to decide what I'm going to paint on them. Oh, and of course I got a couple more stacks of cardstock. One of them is pastel colors, and one has glitter!

Day 44

September 14, 2008

Dear Diary, Since Grandpa is going to sit around and watch football all day, Grandma and I are going shopping. There's some big fall sale at the craft outlet she wants to see. We were talking about making some Halloween decorations. Halloween is next month, so we'll have to decide soon.

Day 43

September 9, 2008

Dear Diary, My allergies are bad again today. I keep sneezing and clearing my throat. It's so annoying. It's the end of summer, what blooms this time of year? Whatever it is it's bothering my nose. And now my nose is so sore I'm not sure how many more times I can blow it.

Day 42

September 6, 2008

Dear Diary, Bonkers keeps following me around. Everytime I sit down, he curls up by my feet. It's very sweet, but makes me laugh. He must be missing me when I'm gone to school. It's not like Grandpa pays much attention to Bonkers when I'm at school. Grandma tries to, but she's always running around cleaning and cooking. I don't think she sits still long enough for Bonkers to sit on her lap!

Day 41

September 3, 2008

Dear Diary, So far so good with school. I know several kids in my class. There's a girl named Alyssa who must have been in the other class last year. She looked familiar but I didn't remember her name. She's pretty nice. We worked together when we were having art time at the end of the day.

Day 40

August 31, 2008

Dear Diary, The day after tomorrow, Labor Day, is our first day of school! I'm usually quiet in class until I get to know the other students and the teacher. I should have at least a few of the same kids from class last year. But there are six classes for the fourth grade, so you never know. I'm just wanting to get in there and get started.

Day 39

August 29, 2008

Dear Diary, I tried to explain to Nicole that I still want to be friends. I told her I just forgot. You know, sometimes people do forget things. She still seemed disappointed, but hopefully she understands. So now I'm invited to go down to her house.

Day 38

August 26, 2008

Dear Diary, I think my friend Nicole is mad at me. I totally forgot to call her today like I said I would. It's not like I had something better to do. I'm pretty bored waiting for school to start. Anyways, she came and knocked on our front door and said something about maybe I didn't really want to be her friend. Oh my drama!

Day 37

August 20, 2008

Dear Diary, Now we know why little Jack couldn't sleep the other night. Aunt Cheryl took him to the doctor and he said Jack has a double ear infection. Poor thing! Now that explains it. At least when I'm sick, I'm old enough to tell Grandma or Grandpa. I guess it's hard when kids are small.

Day 36

August 17, 2008

Dear Diary, Usually having Jack stay the night is a lot of fun, but not last night. I'm so tired today! It seemed like he was awake every hour last night. He would cry for a little bit and then Aunt Cheryl would put him back to bed. I think Bonkers got sick of waking up. He finally went and slept in Grandma and Grandpa's room. Can't blame him.

Day 35

August 16, 2008

Dear Diary, My nephew Jack is coming over sometime today. Their house is getting sprayed for bugs or something so they can't stay there. I'm hoping he can stay the night tonight. Grandma said we'll have to wait and ask Aunt Cheryl. Usually Jack sleeps in my room in his sleeping bag. I used to think he liked being close to me, but I think he actually likes being close to Bonkers.

Day 34

August 13, 2008

Dear Diary, Today I walked in from playing outside and Grandma and Grandpa were dancing in the kitchen to some music on the radio. I had never heard the song before, but I guess they really like it. They didn't see me peeking around the corner, but they looked so sweet together. Grandpa was holding Grandma's hand on his heart and singing to her. He may be tough, but I know he's a big softie.

Day 33

August 9, 2008

Dear Diary, Yesterday was my last day of writing camp. It wasn't so bad. I think some teachers can make writing more fun than others. So now I'm waiting for school to start. Why do we always have such a long summer? Some counties have year round school where they get more short breaks during the year. I think that would be better than having a whole summer where you can forget everything you learned the year before.

Day 32

August 6, 2008

Dear Diary, I feel so bad that Nicole can't really come in our house to play. We either have to play at her house or outside. Even though I don't see cat hair around, I guess some people are allergic to the dander. Anyways, I'm getting ready to meet her out front so we can ride our bikes.

Day 31

August 4, 2008

Dear Diary, My scrapbooking organizer is almost finished. I decided to paint it in all these funky colors. I used pink, green, blue and orange. I used stencils to make these geometric shapes all over it. I love it! I think Grandma was impressed with how good it's turning out. I am too!

Day 30

July 31, 2008

Dear Diary, Grandpa didn't have much fun at the craft festival, but I did! They had so many amazing ideas for creative projects. They had these wooden crate storage chests with drawers. Grandma got me one so I can paint it with stencils and use it to organize all my scrapbooking supplies. I think it's a neat idea instead of just keeping my scrapbooking stuff in the big plastic bin I was using.

Day 29

July 26, 2008

Dear Diary, Only a couple more weeks of writing camp left. It actually has gone by really fast. Then I only have a couple weeks vacation until school starts. Today there's a big craft festival that Grandma and I want to go to. Grandpa doesn't really want to go, but Grandma says he's going anyway. I love to see all the creative ideas people come up with.

Day 28

July 24, 2008

Dear Diary, Nicole asked me today why I live with my grandparents and not my mom and dad. That's kind of a personal question, and not something I usually like to talk about. I actually was adopted by my grandparents when I was very little. I don't even remember my mom and dad. I guess they decided they couldn't take care of me. I know it sounds sad, but to me Grandma and Grandpa are my parents. They've always been there for me and I know they always will.

Day 27

July 20, 2008

Dear Diary, Jack was very surprised about his party. I think he had a blast! We all did. Grandma always knows the best food to make. And we took lots of pictures. I can't wait to get them back so I can add to my family scrapbook.

Day 26

July 17, 2008

Dear Diary, Jack's party is this weekend. We've all been working to make it really special for him. I think the pirate costumes are pretty funny. I can't walk around with the eye patch on though. It makes it way to hard to see where I'm going.

Day 25

July 12, 2008

Dear Diary, Nicole came over today. I showed her some of my scrapbooks I've done in the last couple of years. She said it looked like way to much work for her. It's definitely something you have to be dedicated to finish. Anyways, Nicole is actually allergic to cats, so next time we'll probably play at her house. I can't imagine being allergic to Bonkers.

Day 24

July 9, 2008

Dear Diary, I have to say that writing camp hasn't been so bad. The teacher makes it pretty fun. Writing can be fun? I finished my paper about scrapbooking, and now I'm writing about my family this week. I also love that it's not like regular school where you're there all day. This is only until lunch time and then it's over.

Day 23

July 8, 2008

Dear Diary, There's a girl who lives down the street named Nicole. We've never really played much because we go to different schools. But now that it's summer, and there is no school, we've started hanging out together. She's kind of shy, so I feel like I do most of the talking. But Nicole is really nice.

Day 22

July 6, 2008

Dear Diary, Jack is turning three in a couple weeks. He wants to have a pirate themed party and go on a real boat. Well, we live in Minnesota. And there aren't any lakes close by us. And we're definitely far away from the ocean! So Grandma and Grandpa are renting a pirate ship bounce house. It's a surprise, Jack doesn't even know yet. I think he'll love it. We're all going to dress up like pirates too.

Day 21

July 3, 2008

Dear Diary, Thank goodness! My doctor says my allergy medicine must be helping, because my sinuses are much better now. She doesn't think I'll need to have my tonsils out afterall. I was so not looking forward to that, so that's a big relief. Now I just have to keep taking my medicine and that's it.

Day 20

June 29, 2008

Dear Diary, My Aunt and Uncle are coming over today with little Jack. Jack likes to color and do art stuff. Which is fine by me, since I love art. He always wants to make a new creation. Grandma has started an art gallery in our mud room. We hang all of my and Jack's creations on the walls. It makes it look much better than just plain white walls.

Day 19

June 28, 2008

Dear Diary, Grandma and Grandpa and I went out for breakfast this morning. There's this cafe down the street that makes the best breakfast. My favorite is the blueberry pancakes. There's so many pancakes though, I can never finish them. Sometimes we go out for breakfast on the weekends. I used to wear my pajamas there for breakfast when I was little. That would feel kind of silly now though!

Day 18

June 25, 2008

Dear Diary, So far, writing camp is going okay. The teacher makes it kind of fun though. He lets us write about fun stuff. Like this week, we're working on a paper about our favorite thing to do. Well, that's easy for me, scrapbooking! I have to tell what it is and why I like it. It'll be finished by the end of the week.

Day 17

June 22, 2008

Dear Diary, Tomorrow is my first day of writing camp. I'm really a pretty good student. But Mrs. Wilson, my teacher, thought the extra practice would help me get ready for next year. Six weeks will probably go by pretty fast. Then I'll still have a few weeks of vacation before school starts.

Day 16

June 21, 2008

Dear Diary, Well, Bonkers is back to living up to his name. He's running all around the house again like he's still a kitten. I'm so glad he's feeling better. Grandma says no more feeding him treats though. The vet said Bonkers may be allergic to them and that's what caused his hot spot.

Day 15

June 16, 2008

Dear Diary, Poor Bonkers! We had to take him to the vet this morning because he has something called a hot spot. He keeps biting and licking his hind leg and now it looks really bad. So the vet gave him a shot and some medicine for us to put on the spot for a couple weeks. Now Bonkers just wants to sleep because we had to give him allergy medicine to make him stop itching. Grandma says he should feel better in a couple days. I hope so.

Day14

June 12, 2008

Dear Diary, Well, today was our last day of school. We only had to be there for a half day, so it went by really fast. We didn't have any classwork to do. Mostly we just played games and signed yearbooks. Now I have all my friends phone numbers in my yearbook so I can call them during the summer.

Day 13

June 10, 2008

Dear Diary, Last night I must have scared Bonkers when I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. He jumped up off my bed and hissed. Bonkers accidentally scratched my leg as he was jumping up. I can't believe I startled him. It's not too bad of a scratch. He's such a silly cat, or maybe I should call him scaredy cat!

Day 12

June 6, 2008

Dear Diary, School is almost over. This morning we had our class breakfast. My grandma came in with the other moms and helped decorate the cafeteria. Everybody helped make all these yummy breakfast treats. We had a lot of fun, and the teachers gave out awards to the students. I also gave Mrs. Wilson the scrapbook that I've been working so hard on. I think she really liked it. She gave me a big hug!

Day 11

June 3, 2008

Dear Diary, Today my aunt and uncle brought my little nephew over. They are on their way to a baseball game. Little Jack is a cutie! He loves to come into my room and play with all my stuffed animals. Poor Bonkers though. He runs and hides under the bed when Jack tries chasing him around.

Day 10

May 31, 2008

Dear Diary, Nothing exciting today. Grandma wants us to run errands and clean up the house. That means Grandpa will try to hide out in the basement with his newspaper. He always says he's working down there. But when I sneak down the steps he's always reading his newspaper.

Day 9

May 28, 2008

Dear Diary, Grandma and I are baking bread this afternoon. Not the kind of bread you make in a bread machine. We're making real homemade bread that you mix on the counter. Grandma says it's called kneading the bread. You have to wait a long time for it to rise and bake. But it's so delicious that it's worth it! And every time we make bread, we get to have spaghetti for dinner to go with it. Yummy!

Day 8

May 26, 2008

Dear Diary, Aaaahhhh-no school today! I love holidays. Grandpa is watching the Indy 500 victory celebration on tv. Like I said, I'm not into sports. He just likes to watch his car racing. Whenever he jumps up and cheers or yells, Bonkers goes running behind the couch. It's kind of funny!

Day 7

May 23, 2008

Dear Diary, I just found our that my grandparents signed me up for a writing camp this summer! Mrs. Wilson thought I might like it and get some good practice too. I guess if they let us write about what we want it might not be so bad. It's not like I had other plans or anything. I'm not really into playing sports or anything. Grandma says it's only six weeks of the whole summer. We'll see how it goes.

Day 6

May 21, 2008

Dear Diary, My Grandma has been helping me work on a mini scrapbook for my teacher Mrs. Wilson. Since the school year is almost over, I wanted to make something special for her. I put pictures from our field day, holiday program and field trips. She is such an awesome teacher. I just hope I get it finished in time! There are only a few more weeks of school, so I better get busy!

Day 5

May 19, 2008

Dear Diary, I live with my Grandma and Grandpa. Not sure if I already told you that. I don't know any other kids who live with their Grandma and Grandpa. My Grandma says that makes me special.

Day 4

May 16, 2008

Dear Diary, Today I went to see the doctor. My Grandma says she hears me snoring a lot at night. And I've been very stuffy during the day. The doctor looked in my throat and said my tonsils are so big they look like they're kissing! I guess that's not a good thing. So now I have to take allergy medicine to see if that helps. Otherwise they may have to take out my tonsils.

Day 3

May 14, 2008

Dear Diary, Well, my cat must be allergic to carrots. You see, I don't like carrots, and so at dinner I gave them to Bonkers under the table. Later on he got sick, right on Grandpa's chair! He was so mad! Grandma says we can get the chair cleaned. I guess no more people food for my cat.

Day 2

May 12, 2008

Dear Diary, My favorite thing to do is scrapbooking. That's where you take your pictures and turn them into a book with stickers and borders and all kinds of cool things. I started scrapbooking in 2nd grade because during the winter sometimes it's too cold to play outside. My Grandma helps me with some of the hard stuff. Time to go, we're having glorified hamburgers for dinner.

Day 1

May 9, 2008

Dear Diary, My name is Sammy. And this is my first ever diary! Here are some things you should know about me. I am in 3rd grade in Mrs. Wilson's class. We have a cat named Bonkers. We named him that because he loves to run and jump around! My Grandma says he drives her bonkers!
