Sammy's Diary
Day 160
March 22, 2010
Dear Diary, Grandma thinks it's time for me to start learning to wash my own clothes. I've never done it before. What if I wash the wrong things together and turn my white shirts pink? I don't know any other kids who have to do their own laundry.
Day 159
March 18, 2010
Dear Diary, My friend Nicole from down the street is bothering me. We really don't hang out much anymore because she's just not nice very much. Well, today in school she was bragging about how she's gifted, and she's about to be tested for the gifted program. She went on and on about how smart that must mean she is. I just ignored her because I was afraid I would say something mean if I opened my mouth. Sometimes it's better to just not say anything.
Day 158
March 9, 2010
Dear Diary, Our neighbor's dog has been outside barking for awhile. I can't blame him since it's pretty cold outside. Why won't they just let him in? It's getting really annoying listening to him barking constantly. Bonkers is standing at the window meowing, and it doesn't sound like happy meows-
Day 157
March 4, 2010
Dear Diary, Grandma and I had a lot of fun last night working on our scrapbooks. She gives me good ideas when I need help for some of my pages. She doesn't really need my help with her scrapbook, but sometimes Grandma asks me my opinion on her pages too.
Day 156
February 25, 2010
Dear Diary, So, violin practice is going good, but we already have our first concert in like 3 weeks! I don't see how we can be ready by then, but our teacher says we will be. I don't mind playing in front of my class, but it makes me nervous to think about playing in front of everybody's parents. I hate getting nervous-
Day 155
February 21, 2010
Dear Diary, We're doing this physical assessment in p.e. this week. I'm doing pretty good except for the pullups. There is no way I can do 5 of those things! It seems like a lot of people are having a hard time with them, so I guess I shouldn't feel bad. If we pass all the sections we get some kind of certificate.
Day 154
February 15, 2010
Dear Diary, I didn't even realize we had no school today until I was already dressed and eating breakfast, and my grandma reminded me. I could have slept in?!?! Oh well, at least I have the whole day to do nothing but scrapbook. Maybe I'll see if Alyssa wants to come over too-
Day 153
February 12, 2010
Dear Diary, It felt kind of strange celebrating Valentines Day at school today since it's really not until Sunday. That means I get to celebrate it 2 days since I'm sure my grandparents will get me something too. Sweet! Grandma and I are baking heart shaped cookies tomorrow. We got some red hots and pink frosting to decorate them.
Day 152
February 5, 2010
Dear Diary, My teacher says my handwriting still needs some help, so she gave me some funky looking pencil grip to use. It's weird, because you have to put your 3 fingers in the grip and it kind of forces you to hold your pencil the right way. Hopefully I'll get used to it, but I can't tell a difference in my writing yet.
Day 151
February 3, 2010
Dear Diary, My Grandma never lets me listen to my music in the car. She always wants to listen to her big band music. Whatever it is, I don't like it. Sometimes it'd be nice to get to listen to some of the radio stations I like. It's kind of frustrating.
Day 150
January 29, 2010
Dear Diary, Grandpa is listening to the tv so loud, that I can hardly hear myself think! He says if it's not that loud that he can't hear it. Yeah, but it's making it so the rest of us can't hear! That's why I'm hanging out in my room. Just me and Bonkers.
Day 149
January 25, 2010
Dear Diary, Playing the violin is so much harder than I thought it would be, but I still like it. It just doesn't sound as pretty as I thought it would yet. The music teacher says that takes lots of practice. Okay, I'll keep trying then.
Day 148
January 19, 2010
Dear Diary, Casserole night, yeah for me. Not really. I really don't understand why everything has to be all mixed together in one big dish. It always makes me think there's something hiding in there that Grandma knows I wouldn't like. Very suspicious.
Day 147
January 16, 2010
Dear Diary, Bonkers is so pretty now that we gave her a bath and brushed her all out. Poor cat, we had to dry her with the blowdryer since it's so cold out. I love my little kitty. After we give her a bath, she always gets treats for being good, so she usually doesn't mind her bath too much.
Day 146
January 9, 2010
Dear Diary, It ony took Alyssa like a week to call me. And when she did, she didn't sound mad or anything. Maybe she just doesn't like talking on the phone. You know, I see her in school and everything's normal, it's just I don't want to always be the one calling her.
Day 145
January 4, 2010
Dear Diary, Sometimes I hate winter. You can't really play outside because it's cold and snowing. It gets boring being stuck inside all the time, you know. Grandma hates to even drive in the snow, so we hardly go anywhere. I wish spring would get here fast!
Day 144
December 29, 2009
Dear Diary, Lately I feel like I'm the one always calling Alyssa. She hardly ever calls me anymore. Does that means she doesn't want to be my friend anymore? I really hope not. Maybe I'll try to not call her and see how long it takes before she calls me. Here goes...
Day 143
December 22, 2009
Dear Diary, Pajama day was really fun! Alyssa and I wore the same pajamas on purpose. We looked like twins! I think other girls wished they had thought to dress the same. Anyways, we dranks lots of cocoa, had cookies, and a lot of fun!
Day 142
December 18, 2009
Dear Diary, 3 more days of school until winter vacation. I don't know why they're making our last day on a Wednesday....maybe they're afraid we'll need the snow days. Anyways, we're having a pajama day on Wednesday and we get to drink hot cocoa and read our favorite books. Good times!
Day 141
December 13, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm freezing. When it's this cold, you can't even play outside. I love playing in the snow, but not this cold. I think I'll organize my scrapbooking stuff. I haven't done that in a long time. Sometimes I find stickers or paper I forgot about that I can still use.
Day 140
December 11, 2009
Dear Diary, Jack cracks me up! He kept talking about "movie traps" and being on a mission. Finally, I realized he was trying to say "booby traps". Too funny!
Day 139
December 3, 2009
Dear Diary, We played a really funny game last night called "Imaginiff". You have to try to guess what other people would answer to questions about them. Like, we had to guess if Grandpa was a kind of food, what would he be? And then you had 4 choices like meatloaf, lobster, and other ones. I said meatloaf, and I was right!
Day 138
November 27, 2009
Dear Diary, Jack and my aunt and uncle came over for Thanksgiving. And then Jack stayed the night. He's not so little anymore. He's really fun to play with now that he's getting bigger. I think he'll be 5 soon. We played Go Fish and Crazy Eight's. I hadn't played those in a long time, so it was cool.
Day 137
November 23, 2009
Dear Diary, I realy need to be more careful. I was doing my scrapbooking, and cutting out something, and looked up at the tv for a second, and cut my finger. It was bleeding pretty bad at first, but at least it stopped. I'm usually so careful because Grandma lets me use her sharp scissors. What a goofball I am!
Day 136
November 17, 2009
Dear Diary, Grandpa is actually making dinner tonight because Grandma is too busy. She's at the school helping to set up for our book fair that starts tomorrow. My Grandma is so sweet, I love how she's always volunteering to help out at my school. Uh-oh, I hear Grandpa dropping pots, I better go help-
Day 135
November 12, 2009
Dear Diary, Playing the violin is way harder than it looks! Right now it sounds like this awful squeaking sounds when I play. My music teacher says I'll get better. Our whole club sounds squeaky like that. I am so ready for lessons tomorrow!
Day 134
November 6, 2009
Dear Diary, I am now officially part of the elementary strings club! I'm going to learn to play the regular violin. I really want to play the cello, but I think it might be a little big for me! We're going to the music store tomorrow to rent my very own violin. Well, I guess it's not really mine since we're just renting it, but you know what I mean. I can't wait!
Day 133
November 4, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm so, so, so excited! Tomorrow after school is the meeting with the music teacher about the strings club. All the kids who want to play are supposed to be there. Grandma is just going to pick me up later than she usually does. Isn't that exciting? I wonder how soon I can get my violin???
Day 132
October 26, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm finished! All caught up with my big pile of make-up work. I think my teacher was impressed that I had it done already too. I just hate having stuff like that hanging over my head. I feel much better once it's done. So, I didn't do much else this weekend, but at least now I can relax, right?
Day 131
October 24, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm just now feeling like myself again, back to eating normal foods and everything. It took forever for my tonsils to get smaller again. And now, yeah for me, I have a pile of make-up work to do. At least I have the whole weekend to get it done, because that's pretty much how long it's going to take me!
Day 130
October 14, 2009
Dear Diary, Oh no! My tonsils are all swollen again. The doctor says I have "viral tonsilitis". I feel okay, except that my throat is killing me! It feels really hard to swallow. Pretty much I'm eating soup and popsicles. It's hard for me to eat anything else.
Day 129
October 12, 2009
Dear Diary, I keep trying to get Grandma to let me stay up later at night on school nights. Right now, I have to be in bed by 8:30pm That just seems so early! She says that kids my age are supposed to get like 11 hours of sleep a night. Well, that doesn't help my argument then.
Day 128
October 4, 2009
Dear Diary, My grandparents had a conference the other day with my teacher to talk about how I'm doing in school so far this year. Mrs. Bruno says I'm doing great in reading and math, but need to keep working on my writing. My scores are not quite as high as I guess they should be. I try so hard, but writing is very hard for me. I feel like the other kids are always done with their writing assignments way before I am. Uggh!
Day 127
September 30, 2009
Dear Diary, I talked to my music teacher in class today, and she said that she is starting up the violin group in a few more weeks. They're going to meet afterschool. Grandma said we could talk about it after Grandpa comes home from work. I really hope they say yes! Other than scrapbooking, I've never really gotten into a hobby before.
Day 126
September 26, 2009
Dear Diary, I know I have a lot of makeup work to do this weekend, but that's not all I'm going to do. Grandma promised me we could go to the music store and look at the violins. She has some questions about renting them too. I know it doesn't mean for sure I get to start the violin, but it's a possibility.
Day 125
September 24, 2009
Dear Diary, The good news is that I did not have the Swine Flu. The bad news is that I still had a fever the next day, so I had to miss 2 days of school, and now I have all this work to do that I missed. Plus, I have to do all the work the teacher gives us now. I hate being behind!
Day 124
September 18, 2009
Dear Diary, I had to stay home from school because I have a fever. I'm a little stuffy, but I don't feel that sick really. This year our school has a rule that you can't come to school withing 24 hours of having a fever. Grandma says it has to do with the Swine Flu going around. It's boring staying home, I hope I can go back to school tomorrow.
Day 123
September 9, 2009
Dear Diary, We're doing Show and Tell tomorrow at school, and I'm bringing one of my favorite scrapbooks. It's actually the first one I ever did, and it has all the pictures from when our family went on vacation to Georgia. I spent so much time picking out the perfect ribbon, and charms, and lettering for it. Now I have like 5 scrapbooks!
Day 122
September 4, 2009
Dear Diary, Yeah for Friday! The first week of school is over, and I'm ready for the weekend. I have lots of school work to do, and Jack is coming over tomorrow with my Aunt and Uncle. I think Grandma must be baking downstairs, soemthing smells good, and I'm starving!
Day 121
August 31, 2009
Dear Diary, Tomorrow is September first already, and that means school starts again! Grandma said I can pick what we have for dinner to celebrate my first day back, and I said anything as long as it's not a casserole! She'll probably make mac and cheese since it's one of my favorites. Better go get my backpack ready with all my stuff. See ya-
Day 120
August 22, 2009
Dear Diary, I was pretty proud of myself for spending the night at Alyssa's house last night. I made it through the whole night without having to call my grandparents, so that's good for me. It gives me hope that I can do it again, and it was fun!
Day 119
August 21, 2009
Dear Diary, Alyssa invited me over to spend the night tonight. I like spending the night, but sometimes I wake up and miss my own bed and my stuffed animals. I know we'll have fun though. Maybe I'll just bring my favorite big teddy with me.
Day 118
August 13, 2009
Dear Diary, I must be feeding Bonkers too many treats, he's starting to look a little pudgy. Grandma says it's not good to give him too many treats, because then he won't eat his cat food. I know she's right, but he loves his treats. Maybe just two each day instead of a handful would be better.
Day 117
August 7, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm so ready for school to start. I'm anxious to see if I'll be able to play the violin, and I'm so bored at home. I've already scrapbooked all the pictures I've taken. Why is the summer so long anyway? Only 3 more weeks to go...
Day 116
August 3, 2009
Dear Diary, Well, I finally asked my grandparents if it would be okay for me to learn to play the violin. I think they were surprised, but happy. Grandma said she always wanted to learn to play an instrument. They said it sounds like a good idea to look into, but nothing's for sure. I'll have to wait until school starts and check with the music teacher.
Day 115
July 28, 2009
Dear Diary, Last night the power went off in the middle of the night. No big deal, right? Wrong! When the power goes off in our house, all the smoke detectors start beeping, and it scared me to death! I had a hard time going back to sleep after that.
Day 114
July 24, 2009
Dear Diary, Grandpa has some funny habits. Usually after dinner he sits in his recliner and watches tv. Then he makes himself a cup of coffee and falls asleep in his chair every night before he even drinks it. Isn't that funny?
Day 113
July 17, 2009
Dear Diary, Bonkers is so frisky today! I don't know why, but he's meowing at my stuffed animals and then attacking them on my bed. It's pretty funny to watch. I don't mind, as long as he doesn't ruin my favorite teddy bear.
Day 112
July 12, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm hungry. We had one of Grandma's famous casseroles for dinner, and I didn't eat very much because it wasn't very good. Bonkers seemed to like it when a piece fell on the floor, but I didn't. I think I'll have some cereal before bed. Ooh, I have to go call Alyssa before I forget.
Day 111
July 6, 2009
Dear Diary, Remember how I've been thinking about wanting to learn to play the violin? Well, I'm still thinking about it. I haven't even asked my grandparents yet, so I'm not sure what they'll say. Yesterday I saw a man on tv playing the violin and it was the most beautiful sound. Maybe I should just ask them and see what they say...
Day 110
July 2, 2009
Dear Diary, I caught a fish! It wasn't as big as the one my grandpa caught, but it was pretty big! I think Grandpa said it's called a trout. It wasn't so bad once he put the bait on the hook for me. I didn't like that part. We brought the fish home, and Grandma fried them up for dinner. Pretty good!
Day 109
June 30, 2009
Dear Diary, Grandpa doesn't have to work today so he wants me to go fishing with him. We haven't been fishing in a long time. Well, Grandpa has, he usually goes by himself while I'm in school. I have no idea how to fish, but it's better than just sitting here doing nothing. As long as I don't have to put the bait on the hook, I can do all the rest!
Day 108
June 24, 2009
Dear Diary, I miss Alyssa. Her family went on vacation for 2 weeks, and now I don't have anyone to play with. I used to play with Nicole down the street, but we just didn't get along. I know some kids have lots of friends, but I'm not like that. I usually have only a few girls I am friends with. Grandma's calling me, I better go-
Day 107
June 19, 2009
Dear Diary, Jack is spending the night tonight so my aunt and uncle can go to some music concert. It's fun having him sleep in my room in his sleeping bag. I know there's another room Jack could have all by himself, but we always stay together. Grandma's making his favorite for dinner, mac and cheese. I can already smell it, gotta go-
Day 106
June 13, 2009
Dear Diary, We saw the funniest movie the other night. It was "Up". The little dog was so cute! He had this collar on that made it sound like he was talking, but it really just played all his thoughts. I wish I could put a collar on Bonkers to see what he thinks about. I bet Bonkers is really smart-
Day 105
June 9, 2009
Dear Diary, Good news! Grandma and I have finished all the scrapbooks for the class! It took us way longer than we thought it would, but that's because we wanted them to be just perfect. I think Mrs. Bruno was really surprised and happy that she had us do them. Well, I have to go take a shower, I'm going to the movies with Aunt Cheryl and Uncle Rick.
Day 104
June 6, 2009
Dear Diary, Alyssa was at my house today, and we were laughing so hard. We were playing in the great room, and Grandpa was watching tv. At least he started out watching tv. After about 5 minutes he was snoring so loud I couldn't stop laughing, neither could Alyssa. Why do dads and grandpas snore anyway?
Day 103
May 30, 2009
Dear Diary, Grandma and I just baked cookies using the cookie dough we ordered from the school fundraiser. They're good, but not as good as the ones Grandma usually bakes. I'm just happy I can taste them. The whole time I was sick I couldn't hardly taste anything. Uggh!
Day 102
May 23, 2009
Dear Diary, Sick again. I'm so sick of being sick. I think I've used an entire box of tissues. What a waste of a weekend. I can't go out and play, can't see Alyssa. I guess I can try scrapbooking for a little bit and see if maybe my head will stop hurting. I have to do something, this is boring-
Day 101
May 20, 2009
Dear Diary, I cannot stop clearing my throat today. It's so annoying, and it's starting to get sore. I better not be getting sick! It seems like I just got done being sick. I know Jack was sick and he was over here a few days ago. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Day 100
May 14, 2009
Dear Diary, I think Nicole is upset with me. She wrote me a note asking me why I hardly see her or play with her now. She's my friend and yes she's nice, but I just get tired of all her drama sometimes. When I play with Alyssa there's no drama, and we have lots of fun. I told Nicole I've just been busy, but I know that sooner or later I'll have to tell her. She lives right down the street from me!
Day 99
May 6, 2009
Dear Diary, Green bean casserole for dinner-uggh! I hate casseroles. I would just rather have the beans and the meat and cheese separate. Is that so wrong? Oh lucky me, I hear Grandpa calling me for dinner already. Wish me luck!
Day 98
May 3, 2009
Dear Diary, My grandma is like the room mom for my class, and Mrs. Bruno just gave her a really cool project. I get to help too! She wants us to make little scrapbooks for each of the kids in the class. We already started this weekend. We're using paper bags for the pages, and each one is different. It takes a lot of time, but so far I think they're adorable!
Day 97
April 29, 2009
Dear Diary, Our cable is out again. That means no tv, no phone and no computer. Yeah for me! Grandma says "what's the big deal?" It is a big deal when you want to use the phone or watch a show. Well, I guess I'll do some more work on my scrapbook-
Day 96
April 22, 2009
Dear Diary, I was rollerblading earlier, and I fell! Maybe I just haven't done it in a while. Our street has some small hills on it, and I accidentally got going too fast. By the time I tried to use the brakes it was too late! I have a big scrape on my chin, but at least I didn't have to get stitches or anything. I'm so graceful!
Day 95
April 18, 2009
Dear Diary, I am so upset with Bonkers right now! He must have seen some fuzzy piece hanging out of the end of the scrapbook I'm working on. Well, he scratched it all up and chewed on the corner of the scrapbook! Grandma says we can fix it. She's good about things like that.
Day 94
April 12, 2009
Dear Diary, Yesterday we did an egg hunt for Jack. I found some too, but it was mostly for him. It was so funny how we kept giving him clues about where the eggs were. We'd say "you're getting warmer" when he got close. Jack is such a cutie!
Day 93
April 9, 2009
Dear Diary, I can't stop yawning. I shouldn't be tired, I slept last night. What is a yawn anyway? Just something that makes my eyes water everytime I do it! Grandma says it's your body's way of trying to get more oxygen to help you stay awake. Um, okay-
Day 92
April 4, 2009
Dear Diary, I already heard Grandma talking on the phone to my teacher about writing camp for the summer. Again? I did that last summer. I swear I've gotten a lot better, and I've really been working hard this year. I guess it wouldn't be so bad, especially if it's the same teacher I had last summer. What was his name again?
Day 91
March 28, 2009
Dear Diary, Yesterday was our last day of school till after spring break! It seems like it came really fast this year. I wish it was warmer outside, I really wanted to go play at the park and do stuff like that, but I guess I'll have to wait a little while. I'll probably see Alyssa and my little nephew Jack. That should be fun-
Day 90
March 26, 2009
Dear Diary, You know what's really annoying? When you're trying to eat and listen to your mp3 player at the same time. You can't. Everytime I start chewing, I can hear the music sound like it's going in and out, like right now. I just think it's really annoying! I don't want to put down my chocolate chip bagel, but I don't want to turn off my music either!
Day 89
March 19, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm going over to Alyssa's house tomorrow for dinner. Her family has pizza every Friday night. I could live with that! Then she wants to show me some of the pictures she's been taking with her camera. I think Alyssa could be a photographer someday if she wanted to.
Day 88
March 12, 2009
Dear Diary, My grandpa can be such a grandpa sometimes! A lot of kids are starting to sign up for summer camps already. When I asked Grandpa if I could maybe do a couple of camps, he looked at me like I was speaking a different language. Then he gave me this long talk about how "you don't need any camps, just play outside with your friends", etc. Whatever!
Day 87
March 6, 2009
Dear Diary, Yesteday I wore black pants to school, and didn't even notice Bonker's hair all over the back of them. It's like my pants had a magnet or something. And I brush Bonkers almost every day. He must be shedding or something. Luckily, Alyssa told me about my pants. My teacher gave me a piece of masking tape to use the sticky side to get the hair off, and it worked!
Day 86
March 2, 2009
Dear Diary, I usually help out in Mrs. Wilson's class on Fridays, but she needed my help yesterday too for Dr. Seuss Day. It was fun. I helped read a couple Dr. Seuss books to the class, and then we made Oobleck, that gooey stuff that falls from the sky in one of the Seuss books. It was really messy, but the kids loved it-
Day 85
February 26, 2009
Dear Diary, We're doing testing this week in school. It's not the state assessments, just our benchmark testing. We have to do it in every subject too. Only one more day thank goodness, I'm tired-
Day 84
February 23, 2009
Dear Diary, Grandma and I went to visit Grandpa at work after school today. It was kind of cute seeing him when he didn't know we were there yet. He was helping a customer with some plumbing problem, and he was totally engrossed in what he was doing. My grandpa knows a lot about fixing things.
Day 83
February 19, 2009
Dear Diary, I didn't get to see little Jack on Valentine's Day, but they came over to visit last night. He brought me a valentine that he made just for me. It may not be as fancy as the ones I made, but I think it's the best! What a sweet little nephew he is!
Day 82
February 14, 2009
Dear Diary, For Valentine's Day I made cards for my friends. I love to do crafts. I used a bunch of my scrapbooking supplies and I think they turned out pretty cool. I think it gives them a little something extra special that I made them myself. Besides, it was fun!
Day 81
February 5, 2009
Dear Diary, Grandpa has been working at the hardware store quite a bit lately. It seems so quiet when I come home from school and he's not there. At least he's home before we eat dinner, but still, I miss him. I think Bonkers misses seeing him more too. He's been curling up in Grandpa's recliner whenever Grandpa's gone.
Day 80
February 3, 2009
Dear Diary, Casserole for dinner. Yuck. Grandma should just call it, "all the leftovers in the fridge in a dish." I couldn't even tell you everything in it. If it were up to me we would eat pizza and mac and cheese every night. I guess it's a good thing it's not up to me since that's not exactly the healthiest dinner choices, huh?
Day 79
January 26, 2009
Dear Diary, Mystery solved! I think Bonkers is okay now. When I tried to feed him again, he coughed up this super huge hairball, right on Grandpa's recliner! Thankfully Grandpa was at work and not here to see it. He would have freaked!
Day 78
January 25, 2009
Dear Diary, I hope Bonkers is feeling okay. Usually when I feed him in the morning, he runs right over and eats it all right away. But today, he just sniffed around the bowl and didn't really eat anything. Maybe he's not feeling good. I'll have to keep an eye on him. Maybe I'll go try to feed him again and see if he's hungry yet.
Day 77
January 23, 2009
Dear Diary, I know I haven't written in a while, sometimes I just forget if I'm busy doing other things. Not that anything so exciting has been going on. Let's see, school, shoveling snow, and playing with Bonkers. Yup, that's pretty much it lately.
Day 76
January 13, 2009
Dear Diary, When Alyssa came over today after school we were hanging out in the front room. We kept seeing Nicole walking back and forth in front of my house. Nicole and I haven't played together in a while. It's not like we had a fight or anything, we just kind of stopped hanging out. I think she knew Alyssa was over. I was going to ask her to come in, but I know she's allergic to cats and can't be near Tiger anyway.
Day 75
January 8, 2009
Dear Diary, Grandma took me to the doctor after school today because my allergies are still pretty bad. He says I might have a sinus infection, but instead of putting me on antibiotics, we're going to wait and see if my body can fight it off. I would just love to be able to breathe again. And I also noticed my ears are ringing so bad that I have a hard time hearing lately. Ugh!
Day 74
January 3, 2009
Dear Diary, My allergies have been really bad again the last couple of days. I've been sleeping with a humidifier on and everything because I'm so stuffy. Grandma says she can hear me snoring when she walks by my room at night. Hopefully they'll get better soon. My head hurts pretty bad, and I just feel yucky.
Day 73
December 28, 2008
Dear Diary, I was so glad to get to go over to Alyssa's house yesterday. We played out in the snow and then we'd go inside for a while to get warm again, and then we'd go back outside. Her mom made us "snowman soup", which I had never heard of before. It's hot chocolate with marshmallows!
Day 72
December 26, 2008
Dear Diary, Alyssa invited me over to play today, but Grandma and Grandpa hate driving in the snow unless they have to. Grandpa said maybe tomorrow I can since he has to drive to the hardware store for work anyway. I still can't used to Grandpa having a job again. He seems like he really enjoys it though.
Day 71
December 22, 2008
Dear Diary, Our ornaments turned out awesome! I like mine the best of course. I think Jack had fun, but he got a little frustrated because he didn't want anyone to help him, but he's only 3, and he needed some help. He wanted to put sequins on like mine, but had a hard time getting glue on the tiny sequins. He's so cute, even when he gets mad!
Day 70
December 17, 2008
Dear Diary, Grandma brought home these ornaments for our tree that you decorate yourself. They're just a plain glass bulb, and then you can do whateveer you want to them. What a cute idea! I think I'm going to use paint and sequins on mine. We're going to decorate them when Jack comes over this weekend. I bet he'll like it too.
Day 69
December 9, 2008
Dear Diary, My Grandpa has a job! I was kind of surprised when he came home and told us that he's going to work part time at the hardware store. He says the only thing he really does in the daytime is watch his new t.v. anyway. I never thought Grandpa would work again after he retired, but he says times have changed. I bet he'll look so cute in one of those aprons!
Day 68
December 4, 2008
Dear Diary, Last week for Thanksgiving break was okay. I got to see little Jack, and my Aunt and Uncle a couple times. And it was fun having some extra time to work on my scrapbook. But other than that, I was kind of bored. I really like school, and after a couple of days off, I kind of missed it. Just don't tell any of my friends at school I said that, they might laugh!
Day 67
November 19, 2008
Dear Diary, Alyssa and I were working on our scrapbooks earlier. Yes, Alyssa has one now too. I'm kind of teaching her how to do it as we go. My pages go a little faster than her's, just because I'm used to doing it. I found these new sparkly stickers I love for my scrapbook. Right now I'm working on the pages from Halloween.
Day 66
November 15, 2008
Dear Diary, Do I really need to learn how to do laundry? Grandma seems to think so. This morning after we ate breakfast she said that today was the day for me to start learning. First she taught me how to sort the clothes for the different loads. Then she showed me how to change the washer settings for each kind of clothing. We didn't even get to all the settings on the dryer yet, I'm totally lost! I wish you could just throw all the laundry in at the same time and be done with it.
Day 65
November 13, 2008
Dear Diary, Next week is our last week of school before the Thanksgiving holidays. We're off all week! Grandma wants us to go to the store soon to see what we can use to decorate the table for Thanksgiving. Grandma loves to go all out for holidays!
Day 64
November 10, 2008
Dear Diary, I don't know where Bonkers is today. Usually he's running to the front door as soon as I come home from school. That's kind of strange that he's hiding somewhere. Hold on, I think I hear him running down the hall now. Now he just jumped up on my bed. He must have known I was writing about him! Silly cat, now Bonkers is standing right on my journal, and making it very hard to write. I think he's wants some attention!
Day 63
November 5, 2008
Dear Diary, The symphony yesterday was actually pretty good. I loved hearing the violins play. And Mrs. Bruno was back to herself again, no more grumpies. I sat next to Alyssa during the show and on the bus ride there too. Nicole still lives down the street, but I don't play with her as much lately.
Day 62
November 3, 2008
Dear Diary, I think my teacher must not have had enough sleep last night. Mrs. Bruno is usually very nice, but today she seemed awfully grumpy with everybody in our class. I wanted to ask her what was wrong, but figured that might not be a good idea. Hopefully she'll be back to normal tomorrow, we're going on a fieldtrip to see the symphony perform. I like music, but sometimes long performances get boring. We'll see.
Day 61
October 31, 2008
Dear Diary, In school today we made skeletons out of cotton swabs. It's a lot harder than you think! Then we had to write a spooky poem to share with the class. Of course I wrote mine about a black cat. And since today is Friday, I helped out in Mrs. Wilson's class. They were having a costume parade and a party. I helped pour drinks and get the snacks ready. It was fun!
Day 60
October 27, 2008
Dear Diary, We went to a big Halloween party yesterday. It was pretty fun, until somebody got sick in the bounce house. They're not sure if he has the flu, or if he ate too much pizza. Whichever it was, no one could use the bounce house after that. Yuck! Thankfully, they also had a long rectangular trampoline to run around on. Jack was there too, and we had a good time.
Day 59
October 25, 2008
Dear Diary, Halloween is next Friday already! Jack wants to be Spiderman. I think I'm just going to be a witch, that's pretty easy. It's kind of a tradition that Aunt Cheryl, Uncle Rick and Jack come over for dinner, and then we go trick-or-treating together. I like the candy and all, but the most fun is hanging out on our front porch waiting for the other little kids to come by. Usually we set up a card table and play cards.
Day 58
October 20, 2008
Dear Diary, Alyssa came over this weekend, and she was teaching me how to use her digital camera. We practiced taking pictures of each other, and Bonkers too. It's neat that you can upload the pictures to the computer to save them and you only have to print out the ones you really like. I'm going to print a couple of the ones Grandma took of Alyssa and me so I can add them to my scrapbook.
Day 57
October 17, 2008
Dear Diary, We're going over to my Aunt and Uncle's house for dinner tonight. Aunt Cheryl has some new recipe she wants to try for dinner. As long as it's not a casserole I'll be fine. I'm not really a picky eater, but I like to know what I'm eating when I look at it. That's why I don't like casseroles. When everything is mixed together you can't even tell what it is.
Day 55
October 15, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm a little surprised about the t.v. Grandpa picked out. It's enormous! We always had a small t.v., but Grandpa said he might as well get a big one so he can see the picture better. You can see it from all the way in the kitchen now! He's excited like a little kid now. I bet Jack's going to like watching his cartoons on there too.
Day 54
October 10, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, that didn't take long! Grandpa announced at dinner tonight that we're going shopping for a new t.v. first thing tomorrow. Now he's talking about getting some big screen t.v. so he can see it better. Grandma just sat there shaking her head. Tomorrow should be interesting then.
Day 53
October 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Our tv died a couple days ago. I'm okay without it since I don't watch much t.v. anyway, but Grandpa is going nuts. He doesn't seem to know what to do with himself. First he's outside, then he's inside. I think he is actually bored without it!
Day 52
October 5, 2008
Dear Diary, Sunday. My favorite sandwich to eat is peanut butter and bananas on oatmeal bread. The only problem is that I can only eat it on the weekends, because if I pack it in my lunch, the bananas get all mushy. And that doesn't taste very good. Grandma is the one who got me to try peanut butter and bananas. At first I thought it sounded weird, but now I'm so glad I tried it. And right now it's about time for that sandwich!
Day 51
October 3, 2008
Dear Diary, Helping in Mrs. Wilson's class was so much fun! I passed out papers for Mrs. Wilson to the class and helped a couple kids with their math. Then I read a book to this one little girl who was missing her two front teeth. Her name is Lindsey. I can't wait to go again next Friday!
Day 50
September 30, 2008
Dear Diary, My teacher, Mrs. Bruno, said I can do it! I'm allowed to be a helper in Mrs. Wilson's third grade class every Friday afternoon, while the other kids are on the playground. I'm going to start this coming Friday! I don't even know which kids are in her class, but that's okay. I wonder what kinds of things Mrs. Wilson will have for me to do.
Day 49
September 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I got to see Mrs. Wilson after school. I like my new teacher, but Mrs. Wilson was the best! I went to visit her in her classroom before I walked home. She said maybe I could be a teacher helper one afternoon a week, if my teacher says it's okay. That would be awesome!
Day 48
September 25, 2008
Dear Diary, We ended up having eggs and sausage for dinner tonight. Grandpa was really wanting to grill hamburgers, his favorite. Well, when he tried to turn the grill on, the gas was empty, so no hamburgers. He says he'll fill the tank for tomorrow. I was kind of disappointed too, I felt like having hamburgers. I like mine with lots of pickles!
Day 47
September 22, 2008
Dear Diary, When I showed Alyssa my third grade scrapbook, she loved it! I think she was amazed what you can do with pictures. Now she wants to know if I will teach her and help her start her own scrapbook. At least I can share my tools with her so she won't need to get her own. How great would that be to have a friend who likes to do my most favorite thing?Day 46
September 20, 2008
Dear Diary, Alyssa and I ate lunch together yesterday at school. She's kind of shy like me. I told her about my scrapbooking, and she had no idea what I was talking about! I can't believe there are girls out there who don't scrapbook! Anyways, I told her I would bring one of mine in to school Monday to show her. Alyssa's favorite thing to do is take pictures with her camera.
Day 45
September 16, 2008
Dear Diary, Grandma and I found so much awesome stuff when we went to the outlet the other day. Grandma bought this Halloween countdown calendar she's going to work on. And I found these plastic pumpkins that you can paint. We bought four of them, for Grandpa, Grandma, Jack, and me. Now I just have to decide what I'm going to paint on them. Oh, and of course I got a couple more stacks of cardstock. One of them is pastel colors, and one has glitter!
Day 44
September 14, 2008
Dear Diary, Since Grandpa is going to sit around and watch football all day, Grandma and I are going shopping. There's some big fall sale at the craft outlet she wants to see. We were talking about making some Halloween decorations. Halloween is next month, so we'll have to decide soon.
Day 43
September 9, 2008
Dear Diary, My allergies are bad again today. I keep sneezing and clearing my throat. It's so annoying. It's the end of summer, what blooms this time of year? Whatever it is it's bothering my nose. And now my nose is so sore I'm not sure how many more times I can blow it.
Day 42
September 6, 2008
Dear Diary, Bonkers keeps following me around. Everytime I sit down, he curls up by my feet. It's very sweet, but makes me laugh. He must be missing me when I'm gone to school. It's not like Grandpa pays much attention to Bonkers when I'm at school. Grandma tries to, but she's always running around cleaning and cooking. I don't think she sits still long enough for Bonkers to sit on her lap!
Day 41
September 3, 2008
Dear Diary, So far so good with school. I know several kids in my class. There's a girl named Alyssa who must have been in the other class last year. She looked familiar but I didn't remember her name. She's pretty nice. We worked together when we were having art time at the end of the day.
Day 40
August 31, 2008
Dear Diary, The day after tomorrow, Labor Day, is our first day of school! I'm usually quiet in class until I get to know the other students and the teacher. I should have at least a few of the same kids from class last year. But there are six classes for the fourth grade, so you never know. I'm just wanting to get in there and get started.
Day 39
August 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I tried to explain to Nicole that I still want to be friends. I told her I just forgot. You know, sometimes people do forget things. She still seemed disappointed, but hopefully she understands. So now I'm invited to go down to her house.
Day 38
August 26, 2008
Dear Diary, I think my friend Nicole is mad at me. I totally forgot to call her today like I said I would. It's not like I had something better to do. I'm pretty bored waiting for school to start. Anyways, she came and knocked on our front door and said something about maybe I didn't really want to be her friend. Oh my drama!
Day 37
August 20, 2008
Dear Diary, Now we know why little Jack couldn't sleep the other night. Aunt Cheryl took him to the doctor and he said Jack has a double ear infection. Poor thing! Now that explains it. At least when I'm sick, I'm old enough to tell Grandma or Grandpa. I guess it's hard when kids are small.
Day 36
August 17, 2008
Dear Diary, Usually having Jack stay the night is a lot of fun, but not last night. I'm so tired today! It seemed like he was awake every hour last night. He would cry for a little bit and then Aunt Cheryl would put him back to bed. I think Bonkers got sick of waking up. He finally went and slept in Grandma and Grandpa's room. Can't blame him.
Day 35
August 16, 2008
Dear Diary, My nephew Jack is coming over sometime today. Their house is getting sprayed for bugs or something so they can't stay there. I'm hoping he can stay the night tonight. Grandma said we'll have to wait and ask Aunt Cheryl. Usually Jack sleeps in my room in his sleeping bag. I used to think he liked being close to me, but I think he actually likes being close to Bonkers.
Day 34
August 13, 2008
Dear Diary, Today I walked in from playing outside and Grandma and Grandpa were dancing in the kitchen to some music on the radio. I had never heard the song before, but I guess they really like it. They didn't see me peeking around the corner, but they looked so sweet together. Grandpa was holding Grandma's hand on his heart and singing to her. He may be tough, but I know he's a big softie.
Day 33
August 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Yesterday was my last day of writing camp. It wasn't so bad. I think some teachers can make writing more fun than others. So now I'm waiting for school to start. Why do we always have such a long summer? Some counties have year round school where they get more short breaks during the year. I think that would be better than having a whole summer where you can forget everything you learned the year before.
Day 32
August 6, 2008
Dear Diary, I feel so bad that Nicole can't really come in our house to play. We either have to play at her house or outside. Even though I don't see cat hair around, I guess some people are allergic to the dander. Anyways, I'm getting ready to meet her out front so we can ride our bikes.
Day 31
August 4, 2008
Dear Diary, My scrapbooking organizer is almost finished. I decided to paint it in all these funky colors. I used pink, green, blue and orange. I used stencils to make these geometric shapes all over it. I love it! I think Grandma was impressed with how good it's turning out. I am too!
Day 30
July 31, 2008
Dear Diary, Grandpa didn't have much fun at the craft festival, but I did! They had so many amazing ideas for creative projects. They had these wooden crate storage chests with drawers. Grandma got me one so I can paint it with stencils and use it to organize all my scrapbooking supplies. I think it's a neat idea instead of just keeping my scrapbooking stuff in the big plastic bin I was using.
Day 29
July 26, 2008
Dear Diary, Only a couple more weeks of writing camp left. It actually has gone by really fast. Then I only have a couple weeks vacation until school starts. Today there's a big craft festival that Grandma and I want to go to. Grandpa doesn't really want to go, but Grandma says he's going anyway. I love to see all the creative ideas people come up with.
Day 28
July 24, 2008
Dear Diary, Nicole asked me today why I live with my grandparents and not my mom and dad. That's kind of a personal question, and not something I usually like to talk about. I actually was adopted by my grandparents when I was very little. I don't even remember my mom and dad. I guess they decided they couldn't take care of me. I know it sounds sad, but to me Grandma and Grandpa are my parents. They've always been there for me and I know they always will.
Day 27
July 20, 2008
Dear Diary, Jack was very surprised about his party. I think he had a blast! We all did. Grandma always knows the best food to make. And we took lots of pictures. I can't wait to get them back so I can add to my family scrapbook.
Day 26
July 17, 2008
Dear Diary, Jack's party is this weekend. We've all been working to make it really special for him. I think the pirate costumes are pretty funny. I can't walk around with the eye patch on though. It makes it way to hard to see where I'm going.
Day 25
July 12, 2008
Dear Diary, Nicole came over today. I showed her some of my scrapbooks I've done in the last couple of years. She said it looked like way to much work for her. It's definitely something you have to be dedicated to finish. Anyways, Nicole is actually allergic to cats, so next time we'll probably play at her house. I can't imagine being allergic to Bonkers.
Day 24
July 9, 2008
Dear Diary, I have to say that writing camp hasn't been so bad. The teacher makes it pretty fun. Writing can be fun? I finished my paper about scrapbooking, and now I'm writing about my family this week. I also love that it's not like regular school where you're there all day. This is only until lunch time and then it's over.
Day 23
July 8, 2008
Dear Diary, There's a girl who lives down the street named Nicole. We've never really played much because we go to different schools. But now that it's summer, and there is no school, we've started hanging out together. She's kind of shy, so I feel like I do most of the talking. But Nicole is really nice.
Day 22
July 6, 2008
Dear Diary, Jack is turning three in a couple weeks. He wants to have a pirate themed party and go on a real boat. Well, we live in Minnesota. And there aren't any lakes close by us. And we're definitely far away from the ocean! So Grandma and Grandpa are renting a pirate ship bounce house. It's a surprise, Jack doesn't even know yet. I think he'll love it. We're all going to dress up like pirates too.
Day 21
July 3, 2008
Dear Diary, Thank goodness! My doctor says my allergy medicine must be helping, because my sinuses are much better now. She doesn't think I'll need to have my tonsils out afterall. I was so not looking forward to that, so that's a big relief. Now I just have to keep taking my medicine and that's it.
Day 20
June 29, 2008
Dear Diary, My Aunt and Uncle are coming over today with little Jack. Jack likes to color and do art stuff. Which is fine by me, since I love art. He always wants to make a new creation. Grandma has started an art gallery in our mud room. We hang all of my and Jack's creations on the walls. It makes it look much better than just plain white walls.
Day 19
June 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Grandma and Grandpa and I went out for breakfast this morning. There's this cafe down the street that makes the best breakfast. My favorite is the blueberry pancakes. There's so many pancakes though, I can never finish them. Sometimes we go out for breakfast on the weekends. I used to wear my pajamas there for breakfast when I was little. That would feel kind of silly now though!
Day 18
June 25, 2008
Dear Diary, So far, writing camp is going okay. The teacher makes it kind of fun though. He lets us write about fun stuff. Like this week, we're working on a paper about our favorite thing to do. Well, that's easy for me, scrapbooking! I have to tell what it is and why I like it. It'll be finished by the end of the week.
Day 17
June 22, 2008
Dear Diary, Tomorrow is my first day of writing camp. I'm really a pretty good student. But Mrs. Wilson, my teacher, thought the extra practice would help me get ready for next year. Six weeks will probably go by pretty fast. Then I'll still have a few weeks of vacation before school starts.
Day 16
June 21, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, Bonkers is back to living up to his name. He's running all around the house again like he's still a kitten. I'm so glad he's feeling better. Grandma says no more feeding him treats though. The vet said Bonkers may be allergic to them and that's what caused his hot spot.
Day 15
June 16, 2008
Dear Diary, Poor Bonkers! We had to take him to the vet this morning because he has something called a hot spot. He keeps biting and licking his hind leg and now it looks really bad. So the vet gave him a shot and some medicine for us to put on the spot for a couple weeks. Now Bonkers just wants to sleep because we had to give him allergy medicine to make him stop itching. Grandma says he should feel better in a couple days. I hope so.
Day14
June 12, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, today was our last day of school. We only had to be there for a half day, so it went by really fast. We didn't have any classwork to do. Mostly we just played games and signed yearbooks. Now I have all my friends phone numbers in my yearbook so I can call them during the summer.Day 13
June 10, 2008
Dear Diary, Last night I must have scared Bonkers when I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. He jumped up off my bed and hissed. Bonkers accidentally scratched my leg as he was jumping up. I can't believe I startled him. It's not too bad of a scratch. He's such a silly cat, or maybe I should call him scaredy cat!
Day 12
June 6, 2008
Dear Diary, School is almost over. This morning we had our class breakfast. My grandma came in with the other moms and helped decorate the cafeteria. Everybody helped make all these yummy breakfast treats. We had a lot of fun, and the teachers gave out awards to the students. I also gave Mrs. Wilson the scrapbook that I've been working so hard on. I think she really liked it. She gave me a big hug!
Day 11
June 3, 2008
Dear Diary, Today my aunt and uncle brought my little nephew over. They are on their way to a baseball game. Little Jack is a cutie! He loves to come into my room and play with all my stuffed animals. Poor Bonkers though. He runs and hides under the bed when Jack tries chasing him around.
Day 10
May 31, 2008
Dear Diary, Nothing exciting today. Grandma wants us to run errands and clean up the house. That means Grandpa will try to hide out in the basement with his newspaper. He always says he's working down there. But when I sneak down the steps he's always reading his newspaper.Day 9
May 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Grandma and I are baking bread this afternoon. Not the kind of bread you make in a bread machine. We're making real homemade bread that you mix on the counter. Grandma says it's called kneading the bread. You have to wait a long time for it to rise and bake. But it's so delicious that it's worth it! And every time we make bread, we get to have spaghetti for dinner to go with it. Yummy!
Day 8
May 26, 2008
Dear Diary, Aaaahhhh-no school today! I love holidays. Grandpa is watching the Indy 500 victory celebration on tv. Like I said, I'm not into sports. He just likes to watch his car racing. Whenever he jumps up and cheers or yells, Bonkers goes running behind the couch. It's kind of funny!
Day 7
May 23, 2008
Dear Diary, I just found our that my grandparents signed me up for a writing camp this summer! Mrs. Wilson thought I might like it and get some good practice too. I guess if they let us write about what we want it might not be so bad. It's not like I had other plans or anything. I'm not really into playing sports or anything. Grandma says it's only six weeks of the whole summer. We'll see how it goes.
Day 6
May 21, 2008
Dear Diary, My Grandma has been helping me work on a mini scrapbook for my teacher Mrs. Wilson. Since the school year is almost over, I wanted to make something special for her. I put pictures from our field day, holiday program and field trips. She is such an awesome teacher. I just hope I get it finished in time! There are only a few more weeks of school, so I better get busy!
Day 5
May 19, 2008
Dear Diary, I live with my Grandma and Grandpa. Not sure if I already told you that. I don't know any other kids who live with their Grandma and Grandpa. My Grandma says that makes me special.
Day 4
May 16, 2008
Dear Diary, Today I went to see the doctor. My Grandma says she hears me snoring a lot at night. And I've been very stuffy during the day. The doctor looked in my throat and said my tonsils are so big they look like they're kissing! I guess that's not a good thing. So now I have to take allergy medicine to see if that helps. Otherwise they may have to take out my tonsils.
Day 3
May 14, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, my cat must be allergic to carrots. You see, I don't like carrots, and so at dinner I gave them to Bonkers under the table. Later on he got sick, right on Grandpa's chair! He was so mad! Grandma says we can get the chair cleaned. I guess no more people food for my cat.
Day 2
May 12, 2008
Dear Diary, My favorite thing to do is scrapbooking. That's where you take your pictures and turn them into a book with stickers and borders and all kinds of cool things. I started scrapbooking in 2nd grade because during the winter sometimes it's too cold to play outside. My Grandma helps me with some of the hard stuff. Time to go, we're having glorified hamburgers for dinner.
Day 1
May 9, 2008
Dear Diary, My name is Sammy. And this is my first ever diary! Here are some things you should know about me. I am in 3rd grade in Mrs. Wilson's class. We have a cat named Bonkers. We named him that because he loves to run and jump around! My Grandma says he drives her bonkers!
