Dear Diary, I really wanted to go to the bookstore again tonight, but nobody can take me. My mom has a hair appointment tonight. And Dad has his friend coming over to help him fix something in the basement. I guess I'll have to wait until another night. Oh well-

Dear Diary, My allergies are killing me! I feel like my nose is running all the time, and even my ears are itching inside. I wish the pollen would just hurry up and go away. I like spring, just not this part if it. Speaking of which, I need another tissue right now!

Dear Diary, I was at Kayla's house yesterday. My parents took Catherine to some Sesame Street show, and I really didn't want to go. At least they didn't make me go. I had tons more fun with Kayla. We traded some books since I've already read all mine. I should keep a list of all the books I read. I bet it's a lot!

Dear Diary, Only like 6 more weeks until vacation. Yes, I'm counting! We usually do something fun for spring break. Sometimes we go away on vacation, or see movies and do other fun stuff during the day here in Boston. I kind of hope we stay here so I can see my friends.

Dear Diary, I really need to get my hair cut. My bangs keep hanging in my eyes, and it's really bothering me. I could ask my mom to cut them, but I'd rather just get my hair done all at once. I hope I can get it done this weekend. We'll see-

Dear Diary, All of a sudden all my friends are wearing these bracelets with animals and letters and other cool stuff. I have a couple of them, but some people are going crazy. Kayala has like a million of them! They're kind of fun because you can collect them and trade them.

Dear Diary, Okay, so it snowed, they were right this time. And, we had no school, but I swear my teachers just pile all that work onto the other days. It's not like we don't have to do the work, and it disappears. I wish!

Dear Diary, Last week everybody said it was going to snow so bad, and it didn't. Now they're saying they really mean it this time. It's supposed to tomorrow. That means getting up and seeing if school has been cancelled. Maybe I'll ask my mom to just wake me up if there's no snow, that way I can sleep in if it's a snow day. I love sleep!

Dear Diary, The bad news is they couldn't fix our computer. The good news is my parents bought a laptop. I like it a lot better than the one we had that sat in the office and plugged into the wall. Now you can use the computer anywhere. I'm not allowed to take it in my room yet though-

Dear Diary, Our computer just died, and I didn't know how much I used it until it broke. My dad had to take it in to see if it can be fixed. Hopefully they give it back soon. At least it wasn't me that broke it this time. My little sister spilled her drink on the keyboard and it started smoking and everything. Oops!

Dear Diary, I was this close to being late for school today! I thought my mom was gonna kill me! I'm like never late for school, but I got distracted I guess. I was mostly ready, and then I went on the computer, and I kind of forgot what time it was. I barely made it before the last bell. Whew!

Dear Diary, I'm still wearing my pajamas, and it's after lunch. I love Saturdays! You can be comfy as long as you don't have anywhere to go. At first my parents would tell me I had to get dressed for the day, but now they just shake their heads at me. Now they only make me get dressed if someone's coming over.

Dear Diary, My favorite thing about winter vacation, is all the time I get to read! Mom took us to the library again yesterday, and I brought home a huge stack of new books. Dear Diary, Hey, it's snowing outside. The only thing good about snow is when there's a lot of it, and you can go sledding. My little sister has never gone before because she was too little. Dad says maybe we can teach her this year.

Dear Diary, We were supposed to go downtown tonight, but traffic was really bad. I guess there's some famous person in town or something, and they had roads blocked off. You couldn't really drive anywhere. Bummer.

Dear Diary, Last night there was a helicopter that kept flying over our house. It was shining a big light all over. I had a hard time sleeping until it stopped. Mom said she saw on the news this morning that they were looking for a boy who might be lost. I hope they found him.

Dear Diary, We're at Nana and Granddad's for Thanksgiving. I kind of wish we did it at our house instead, but it's tradition. There's just not as much to do here.  I think Catherine is bored too. I didn't even remember to bring my book. Darn!

Dear Diary, Kayla is so lucky, her parents let her stay up late on school nights. My parents make me go to bed early, but at least I get to stay up on the weekends. It's kind of nice to read or watch tv, or play on the computer once my sister is asleep.

Dear Diary, I begged my mom to take me to the bookstore after school. Sometimes I just like to go there and hang out while I read. They have the comfiest couches, and you can just read. You don't even have to buy any books. It was fun for a little while, until my little sister kept pestering me!

Dear Diary, Way to go Dad! He knew he messed up about the anniversary, so when my mom came home he had flowers and told her he made a reservation for dinner. The sitter came over to stay with Catherine and me. I didn't mind, they went to some fancy French restaurant anyway, not my kind of food.

Dear Diary, Daddy is in big trouble with my mom. He totally forgot that today is their anniversary. She brought out this little present right before breakfast, and you could tell by the look on his face that he had no idea what the present was for. Poor Mom! I know she was disappointed, but she didn't say anything. That's when you know you're really in trouble with my mom, when she gets quiet.

Dear Diary, I'm trying so hard to stay away from my little sister. She has this really bad cold and a fever. You should hear her talk, her voice sounds all froggy. I do not need to get sick! I have Battle of the Books and so many other things to do. Please don't get sick, please don't get sick.

Dear Diary, My mom and I started to read part of a chapter book together every night before I go to bed. I still do my own reading, and it's not like I couldn't read the book all by myself, but it's kind of nice to just get to listen. We read one or two chapters every night. I like it.

Dear Diary, I just saw the funniest video that my dad showed me on the computer. It's this adorable little baby dancing to a Beyonce' song. It is the funniest thing! It looks like the baby actually knows the dance moves in the video. Too cute-

Dear Diary, I've had such a hard time getting up for school lately. You know how I love to sleep in! Well, now that it's so dark in the morning I don't want to wake up. Mom comes in several times to get me out of bed. This morning she sent Catherine in to wake me up. That worked since she was jumping all over me in my bed! But I love sleep...

Dear Diary, My parents finally listened to me about not getting any privacy with Catherine around. She was in my room all the time. So they turned the lock around on my bedroom door, and said I'm allowed to lock it if I'm in there reading or whatever. But I have to unlock it as soon as my mom or dad knocks. What a relief!

Dear Diary, My little sister can be so sweet sometimes, but other times she scares me. If I don't give her something she wants, she says "I'm going to smack you!" And I think Catherine means it. I think it was easier when she was a baby and just smiled and drooled and didn't say very much.

Dear Diary, The zoo was really neat, and we finally got to see the new baby giraffe that was born. It didn't look like a baby, but he was cute. The zoo keeper said Hamisi was 164 pounds and 6 feet 4 inches tall when he was born! Wow! Now we're just hanging out waiting for my parents to come home. The weekend went by so fast I didn't really have a chance to miss them, but I'm glad I'll see them tonight-

Dear Diary, So far it's been fun having Nana and Granddad here. We're actually going to the zoo after Catherine wakes up from her nap. It's hard to not go in there and wake her up myself, just so we can go already. I know, I have to be patient, but sometimes that's hard to do. I think I'll go read another chapter in my book.

Dear Diary, My parents are going away next weekend, and Nana and Grand dad are coming to stay with us while they're gone. I don't think they're going very far away. We'll probably go to the Franklin Park Zoo. Nana loves the zoo, and now that Catherine is old enough, she does too. Friday, hurry and get here!

Dear Diary, I love to read, but right now I feel like my eyeballs are tired. I've been reading so much lately, trying to finish for the Battle of the Books. I think my head is spinning! Dear Diary, I only have two more books to read for the Battle of the Books, and I better hurry, since we start meeting in a couple weeks. Then we have to do all the studying and practice quizzes to get ready for January when we compete against the whole district. Last year we did awesome, so I'm hoping to make the team again. Dear Diary, I love being back at school, but it was nice to be able to sleep in today since it's Saturday. During the week, I have to get up when it's still dark outside! If I'm not up early, then I'll miss the bus. Maybe that's why I make up for it on the weekends.

Dear Diary, My mom rules! She came home from the store last night and had found a whole bunch of outfits for school. Usually I like to go shopping with my mom so I can pick out my own clothes, but she did really good this time. There was only one shirt I didn't like the color of, so that's awesome! Dear Diary, We went shopping for school clothes, and I had a really hard time finding things I liked. Everything seemed so tight and short, and I like to be comfortable. I guess that's why I wear a lot of jeans and capris with shirts. Mom said, don't worry, that we'll find my style clothes. Better be soon, school starts next week!

Dear Diary, I'm taking a break from reading and want to go out and double dutch, but there's nobody around to do it with. It's boring jumping rope by yourself. I only like double dutch. Someday my little sister Catherine will be old enough, and then we'll only need one more person, but that's a long way away since she's only 2!

Dear Diary, Now that we're home from vacation, I'm going to try to get as many of the Battle of the Books read before school starts as I can. I love to read, and there's not much else I want to do right now. We only have about 2 more weeks of summer anyway. That's it??? I better get started!

Dear Diary, How can we be back home already? Our vacation went by so fast, I want to go back! That's why I didn't have more time to write in my diary, we were so busy doing things. We ate at this restaurant that felt like a rainforest inside, and we did go cart racing. It was a blast! My dad said maybe we can go to Orlando again next summer. Oh, please!!!

Dear Diary, Orlando is the best! We already went to Disney and Islands of Adventure. I think my favorite was Disney. Space Mountain was so cool! Dear Diary, I love my sleep, and now that my little sister Catherine is sleeping in a bed instead of a crib, I'm not sleeping as much. She keeps coming into my room in the middle of the night. She says she's hungry, or thirsty, or whatever. Mom says it's just a phase, and she'll stop. Easy for you to say when she's not coming in to wake you up Mom!

Dear Diary, I'm so mad! I wanted to get started on the "Battle of the Books" list for next school year. Well, my mom took me to the library, and none of the books are in. Not one! Every book on the list has already been checked out, and there is a waiting list for the rest of the summer. Mom says maybe we can buy a couple of them online to get me started. I hope so, or I'll never be ready for "Battle of the Books"!

Dear Diary, We're going to the Frog Pond. It's this park where you can iceskate in the winter, and in the summer they have a spray fountain and pool. My little sister Catherine really liked it last summer, and this is the first time we're going this year to swim. Better go find my bathing suit!

Dear Diary, We were at Nana and Granddad's last weekend. It's fun to do that sometimes. Catherine and I have to share a room. She goes to bed way before I do so it's okay. Dear Diary, I can't believe I have to wait a whole month before we go to Florida. I thought we were leaving as soon as school got out, but my parents said we don't go to Orlando until the end of July. No fair! I'm so excited to see my cousins and go to Disney! Dear Diary, This week has gone by so fast! Tomorrow is our last day of school too. We haven't really done very much work this week since the teacher already collected all of our books. Dear Diary, Yesterday was my little sister's birthday party. We just had family come over. Catherine got this really cute game that's an elephant that sprays butterflies out of his trunk. You're supposed to try to catch them with butterfly nets. It was fun teaching Catherine how to do it. She didn't really care about catching the butterflies, I think she just liked dancing around in them!

Dear Diary, Holy cow! We won, we won! It was fun racing to see which team could hit the buzzer first when they asked a question. But even if you were first to buzz in, it didn't matter unless you had the right answer. Our team won gift certificates and a bunch of school supplies for our classes. Dear Diary, Whew! My brain is tired from all the studying for our competition. I'm not really nervous, just excited. One week from today is the big day. I was going to study some more tonight, but I think I'm going to take a break for today. I think the Red Sox are on tonight, maybe I'll just chill with my mom and watch the game.

Dear Diary, This week I'm going to be super busy! Our Battle of the Books team has practice every day after school to get ready for the competition. It's May 27th, which is almost here! I'm really excited because I read all the books and this is my first year where I'll actually get to compete. Last year I was an alternate, and since they never used me, I didn't get to do very much. How cool!

Dear Diary, My parents are planning a trip to Florida this summer! I've never been to Florida before, and I think we might even get to go to Disney! I hope so, that would be so cool! My Aunt and Uncle and cousins live near Orlando, so we'll probably stay with them. Summer hurry up and get here!

Dear Diary, I have been not so graceful today. First, I was messing with my dad's sunglasses, and I accidentally broke them. And then, when I was in my parents' room, I was trying to reach something on top of the tall dresser. Well, I knocked over my mom's favorite glass candle and broke it. It was a heart shaped one my dad had given her a long time ago. I felt so bad, but it really was an accident.

Dear Diary, My little sister Catherine is turning into a monster lately. I'm not saying that to be mean, but she has been really monster-like this week. She always yells "Molly, no. Molly, no." if I have anything she wants. And she cries and screams all the time. I can't even hide from her in my room because she follows me in there. Ahh!!!

Dear Diary, It's been so busy this week that I haven't even had a chance to tell you about my birthday party! It was pretty fun! We went to dinner at this nice Italian restaurant where they give you pizza dough, cheese and pepperoni to make your own pizza while you wait for your dinner. And the waiters all sang "Happy Birthday" to me when they brought our hot fudge sundaes. Yummy! We stayed up late playing games and dancing in my room. That was the most fun part!

Dear Diary, We're going to color eggs tonight. I like to use all different colors, and make mine look all swirly. Then my parents write on each egg with a crayon how much it's worth. Some of them are only a dime or quarter, but some are a dollar. When they hide the eggs this weekend, you get to cash in the eggs you find.

Dear Diary, Kayla came over after school so we could do our homework and then play. But, my sister Catherine would not leave us alone! She kept climbing all over me, and trying to sit on me. Mom says it's just because she missed me while I was at school, how annoying! I love her, but I need my space!

Dear Diary, The weekend went by so fast that it seems like Nana and Grandad were hardly here! But we had fun playing board games. Grandad helped my dad work on his car while Nana played with Catherine and me. I wish I was still small enough to sit on Nana's lap like Catherine does.

Dear Diary, My friend Kayla got one of those new cool boards that's like a skateboard, but it's a little different. It's really flexible, and you slide your legs back and forth to make it move. It looks really easy, but you really have to balance. After a few tries I got the hang of it. I want to get one too so Kayla and I can do it together. Maybe for my birthday.

Dear Diary, Uh-oh. When I came home from school today I didn't know my little sister Catherine was still taking her nap and I accidentally slammed the door shut. Now she's awake and grumpy because she didn't sleep long enough. Sorry Mom!

Dear Diary, You know how I love sleeping in, right? Well, it stinks when we have the time change and instead of sleeping in, I actually lose an hour of sleep! Dear Diary, The pollen count must be high. I can just feel it. I can't smell anything, my nose is all stuffy, and my ears are itching me. Better tell Mom so she can get my nasal spray again. At least it's only in the spring that they're this bad.

Dear Diary, We went to a birthday party yesterday for one of my cousins. It was at some ceramic place where you paint your own piece of pottery. Something different, but it was kind of fun. I made, or painted, a butterfly that you can hang on the wall. We can pick them up next week. Hopefully it turned out good.

Dear Diary, We've been learning a lot about the presidents in school since we just had Presidents' Day. It's really interesting to learn about Lincoln and George Washington. I've never been to Washington D.C., but someday I hope to go visit. There is so much amazing history there, all the museums and monuments. The two things I want to see the most are the Lincoln Memorial and the Declaration of Indepedence. They have the actual documents on display!

Dear Diary, Our computer keeps crashing. I wanted to go online so I could reserve some books at the library. It makes it so much easier, and I love that I can check out as many as I want at one time. Dear Diary, When my mom came to talk to me last night after I was sent to my room, I knew I needed to apologize. After I did, Mom actually apologized for yelling at me too. She said even though she apologized that didn't mean I was off the hook. I already knew that. Still, it's kind of nice to know that no matter how old you are, you should apologize for things you do wrong to other people. Mom doesn't usually yell, maybe she was just feeling grumpy too-

Dear Diary, I must be in a grumpy mood today. Maybe it's the weather. I just got sent to my room for talking back to my mom. I didn't mean to, it just sort of happened. I was right in the middle of a really good book and Mom was calling for me to come set the table. I was just going to finish the chapter and then go down. Well, that wasn't what she wanted. So, when she gave me a hard time about it, I kind of snapped back at her. Yikes! I knew as soon as I said it I was in trouble.

Dear Diary, We went to the book store afterschool today just to hang out. Mom wanted to look for some books. I just love to find one to read and cuddle up on one of those big comfy chairs. It's nice and quiet, and smells good with the bagel shop in there. Ooh, that reminds me, I have to hurry up and finish the next book for "Battle of the Books"!

Dear Diary, Oh my gosh! I must have jinxed myself when I said that Catherine doesn't ruin my stuff anymore. When I came home from school today she had found my favorite chapstick. She figured out how to get it open, and drew all over the back of my bedroom door with it. I guess at least my room smells like cherries now! Mom says it's okay, she can get it out. Little sisters!

Dear Diary, It's kind of nice that my little sister Catherine is starting to learn to not get into everything. It used to be she put everything in her mouth. And she would come into my room and tear pages out of my books and everything. It's hard not to get mad even though I know she doesn't know any better. But finally she has learned what the word "no" means. Now if she can just learn to play board games, that would be awesome!

Dear Diary, We're going to the zoo tomorrow. I like going when it's cold outside because it's not so crowded, and you get to see more. But, not all the animals can be outside in the cold and snow. The lions and tigers usually can, but not the giraffes or kangaroos. I read that kangaroos can actually get frostbite on their ears!

Dear Diary, My little sister Catherine did the funniest thing at dinner tonight. We were all eating and it was pretty quiet. All of a sudden she let out this big burp! It sounded so loud I thought it was my dad! We were all laughing because it's not like she meant to do it. I don't think toddlers know how to make themselves burp. Anyways, once we were all laughing she just sat there and smiled-

Dear Diary, Unfortunately, Grand dad and Nana went back home. They had to go before the next snowstorm hit, which it did today! Dear Diary, Grand dad and Nana made it from Brockton, but now they may be stuck here for a little while. It's been snowing and doesn't look like it's going to stop! Not that I mind them being stuck here with us. Grand dad loves to play cards, and he is teaching me to play Euchre. It's kind of hard, but a lot of fun.

Dear Diary, Grand dad and Nana are supposed to be coming to Boston tomorrow. I'm hoping they'll be able to make it even though its been snowing pretty bad. Dear Diary, Yesterday was our last day of school until January! And since one of my most favorite things to do is sleep, I hope I get to sleep in for the next 2 weeks! I did this morning, or at least I did until I heard Catherine running around going "Sissy?"..."Sissy?" She was looking all over for me. It is kind of flattering that she loves me so much.

Dear Diary, My little sister Catherine keeps following me around calling me "Sissy". She's fun to play with, but sometimes I feel bad when I just want to be in my room by myself and read or something. She's only eighteen months old, so I know she doesn't understand personal space. But sometimes it's really hard to have her always wanting me! And there she is knocking at my door right now!

Dear Diary, My class went to the Science Discovery Museum yesterday. You know I love museums! I think my favorite part was the Sea of Clouds exhibit. It's hard to explain, but it's this big round thing with a bunch of clouds/fog on top. You can actually stick your hands in it, really cool! It's supposed to help you learn about fog and clouds and how they form. The time went by so fast at the museum. I was sad when our teacher said it was time to go back to school.

Dear Diary, It's always amazing to me to think about Thanksgiving and why we celebrate it every year. The pilgrims came here, to Massachusetts, in 1620. So many pilgrims had died on the long journey aboard the Mayflower. The Wampanoag Indians helped the pilgrims survive and learn to grow crops. Thanksgiving was their celebration together of the harvest, and we still celebrate it today.

Dear Diary, We're reading a new book this month for "Battle of the Books". It's a really funny story about a girl with big ears who gets teased by these mean bullies at her school. I know it doesn't sound funny, it sounds mean, but it really isn't. They somehow get stuck on an island together after falling into a dumpster! I can't wait to see how it ends!

Dear Diary, Since we can't really go anywhere with Catherine still being sick, Mom and I decided to bake pumpkin bread today. It's still in the oven right now, but it smells delicious. I love pumpkin bread! Of course, we only make it in the fall, not in the summer or any other time. It would be weird to eat pumpkin bread for the Fourth of July or something! Uh-oh, I just sneezed three times. I better not be getting what Catherine has!

Dear Diary, It's so hard staying away from my little sister Catherine when she's sick. Not to be gross, but she has stuff coming out of her nose and she's all coughing this nasty cough. Well, she's so little that she doesn't understand she's sick, she just likes to climb up on my lap and cuddle with me. Normally I don't mind, but not when she's sick. I don't want to be sick too!

Dear Diary, Things in Massachusetts get a little crazy around Thanksgiving time. I don't know if it's because the first Thanksgiving in 1621 was held in Plymouth Massachusetts or what. People really seem to go all out around here. Plymouth is actually only about an hour from here, which is awesome bacause there is so much history there. You can walk through the historic homes and they even have a "Pilgrim Stroll" where people dress up like pilgrims.

Dear Diary, I think I ate way too much candy and cookies today at school! I love sweets, and with all the parties and fun, there were treats everywhere. Now my stomach just aches. Mom said just take it easy for the rest of the afternoon, and I'll be fine for trick or treating, as long as I don't eat anymore sweets. Just the thought of eating anymore candy makes me want to get sick.

Dear Diary, We had a lot of fun with Nana and Grand dad yesterday. I wish they lived a little bit closer, but they've lived in that same house forever, and I doubt they'll ever move. Nana always pinches my cheeks and tells me how big I'm getting. It doesn't hurt, it's just funny.

Dear Diary, Last night our school had a program at school for the book fair. It was funny seeing all the teachers dressed up in Halloween costumes and reading Halloween stories to the younger kids. I almost didn't recognize the p.e. teacher because he had on a giant gorilla costume. Dad said I could pick out a few books to buy at the book fair. I always love getting new books to add to my collection.

Dear Diary, I tried to play "Chutes and Ladders" today with my little sister Catherine. She just kept spinning the spinner no matter what number it landed on. Then she was chewing the pieces and crying when I told her she was supposed to go down the chute. Mom said maybe Catherine isn't quite ready for a board game. I think next time we'll try just playing with her babydolls or something.

Dear Diary, We like hardly ever eat fast food. Mom and Dad would rather go out to a regular restaurant than eat fast food. But tonight, Dad ended up working late, and Mom had to help watch my cousins, so nobody had time to make dinner. So we went to a fast food burger place for the first time in a while. The burger was just okay, but the milkshake was awesome!

Dear Diary, Double dutch is so much fun, but you really need at least 3 people to do it. That's the hard part! I can't wait until my little sister Catherine is old enough to double dutch, but I think that may be a while since she's only a toddler. Sometimes if I find one other friend on our block to do it, then my mom will help with the ropes. She's the best!

Dear Diary, My family went to the Boston Children's Museum. We hadn't been there in a while, so Dad thought it might be fun. And it was! They have this really cool 3-D puzzle that you can actually climb through. Or at least the kids can, the parents just get to watch. I think that was my favorite part. They also had this really neat Japanese House that was made of silk and looked exactly like you would see in Japan.

Dear Diary, Today is September 11th, so our school celebrated Patriot Day. In class we wrote poems about what it means to be an American. Then we had a class discussion about September 11th and what happened. I was only a toddler when it happened, but my teacher said he remembers it, so he told us more about it. Dear Diary, Tomorrow our teacher is going to start our class in the "Battle of the Books". It's this reading competition that goes on all year between all the schools. I think it will be lots of fun because I love to read. There are fifteen chapter books we have to read over the next several months. Then we get ready for the big quiz bowl in May. Dear Diary, I cannot believe we beat the White Sox last night. Not only did we beat them, but we shut them out! My mom was doing her little happy dance all around the house. She cracks me up. Dear Diary, My friend Kayla and I were practicing our spelling while we were jumping rope today. Why does Massachusetts have to be so hard to spell? Dear Diary, I got to go to Six Flags today! It was so exciting. We went on a whole bunch of rides and then there was a glow-in-the-dark parade. Dear Diary, Hmm. Not much really happened today. At school we are learning about poetry. My teacher showed us a poem by Robert Frost. It was really cool. We got to draw pictures with markers of the poem. "Two roads diverged in the wood... I took the road less traveled by." My picture was really pretty.

Dear Diary, Yay Red Sox! Mom let me stay up to watch the game last night against Detroit. She loves baseball a lot. This summer we are going to go to Fenway Park to watch a real game! I've never been there before. Mom says they are the best hotdogs in the world... Fenway Franks! I don't think that they are as good as grandma's though. She is the best cook ever.

Dear Diary, I had so much fun today! It's school vacation, so mom took me and my little sister to the Boston Common for a picnic. It was so much fun. Mom told us about all the things that happened on the common before we were born. It was the beginning of the freedom trail and people used to leave their cows there to eat grass! I don't get why people would leave their cows there alone. Wouldn't they run away?

Dear Diary, Today my mom took me to the book store and I bought 2 new books and this cool new diary. It is green with pink polka dots. I hope my little sister doesn't find it and get it all sticky. She always has sticky hands, and my mom is always chasing her with a washcloth. I have to get ready for dinner. I will write later.
