Morgann's Diary
Day 71
November 17, 2008
Dear Diary, Want to hear something funny? Last night Mom and I were in the car getting ready to pull out of the garage to go to the grocery store. Well, it was really dark outside, and I guess she didn't see my dad's black car parked right behind us. All of a sudden I felt this bump, and I was like "what one Earth?!?!?!" Mom had bumped right into his car! It didn't do any damage or anything, but it was kind of funny to hear Mom tell my dad about it. Then Dad started lecturing her about driving safely and all that. Wow!
Day 70
November 13, 2008
Dear Diary, No callouts for Dad, so we made it out to dinner last night. I try to eat healthy most of the time, but hamburgers and french fries rule! I eat my french fries with mayonaise. I know it sounds odd, but it's really yummy. My brother Tanner always picks on me for it, but he has never even tried it. He just doesn't know what he's missing.
Day 69
November 12, 2008
Dear Diary, Okay, we ended up not going out to dinner Friday night because my dad got called out. He's a detective for the sheriff's office, and every now and then he gets called out when something happens. Of course , it had to be on the night we were supposed to go out to eat! We were so busy with soccer and everything else all weekend that we're going to try again tonight. Hopefully no call outs for Dad!
Day 68
November 7, 2008
Dear Diary, Yeah, it's Friday! Dad said we could go out for dinner tonight. I hope we go to that burger place down the street. They have the best french fries. Anything, as long as it's not Italian food, I don't care. I think Oaklee has to go outside, she's barking at the door again-
Day 67
November 5, 2008
Dear Diary, Oaklee is such a sweetie girl, but she barks too much. We've tried everything to tecah her to not bark. She barks when the doorbell rings, when people are walking across the street. It can be annoying sometimes. Mom says maybe we need to call one of those dog trainers that come to your house and help when your pet has behavior problems. You know, like a dog whisperer. We may have to.
Day 66
November 2, 2008
Dear Diary, Braces sometimes are a pain. I brought home all this candy from trick-or-treating. Mom had me dump it out on the table and then went through it piece by piece, throwing away all the gooey, sticky candy I can't eat. Even the caramels, which I love! Oh well, what can you do? At least I had fun and there's some candy left in my pillow case I'm actually allowed to eat.
Day 65
October 29, 2008
Dear Diary, You know, Halloween is in two days and I still don't have a costume! I could always go as a soccer player again, but that's kind of boring since I already have a uniform I wear to my games. I was thinking about being a cheerleader. I've never been that before. I better ask Mom if we can go shopping.
Day 64
October 27, 2008
Dear Diary, Tonight my grandparents are coming to my soccer game to watch me play. They usually like to come to a few games each season. Grandma always worries that I'll get nervous when they watch. I tell her no way, it makes me want to try even harder. Tanner's team is playing on the field right next to mine. Mom said they'll just sit in the middle between both fields to watch both games at the same time. Then after the game we're all going to go out to dinner.
Day 63
October 22, 2008
Dear Diary, I want someone to come outside and play soccer with me. It gets boring after a while doing it by yourself. All you can really do is kick goals and dribble. Tanner's over at his friend's house and Mom's busy cooking dinner. Looks like it's just me. Maybe I'll take Oaklee outside too and get her to chase me around while I dribble the soccer ball.
Day 62
October 19, 2008
Dear Diary, Tanner is hogging the computer and won't let me have a turn. Mom says if she has to work it out then she'll just turn the computer off. I hope he's almost done, I need to do my homework. I wish I had my own computer in my own room. Mom and dad said no, we have to share the one in the family room. I'm going to go see if he's done yet.
Day 61
October 15, 2008
Dear Diary, Rebecca came over for dinner tonight. We had bbq ribs. Yummy! After dinner we went for a walk around the neighborhood with Oaklee. Oaklee gets all excited as soon as she sees me take her leashe out. It's so cute!
Day 60
October 13, 2008
Dear Diary, Okay, I love school and all, but I'm confused about why we had school today. If Columbus Day is a holiday and the banks and post offices are closed, why was there still school? Whatever. Mom said maybe we are making up days we lost because of school being cancelled for the hurricane. I guess that would make sense.
Day 59
October 8, 2008
Dear Diary, Already my teeth feel better today. What a relief! Tanner says I'm just being a baby, but he doesn't understand. He has never had to wear braces. He thinks I just like the attention from saying my braces hurt my teeth. Whatever Tanner!
Day 58
October 7, 2008
Dear Diary, I had to go to the orthodontist again today. Every month I have to go and get my braces tightened. It kills! Afterwards my teeth hurt so bad that I want to cry. Then after a couple days it's not so bad. Mom said she would make me soup for dinner so my teeth won't be so bad.
Day 57
October 3, 2008
Dear Diary, It's my dad's birthday. Mom forgot this morning to wish him happy birthday! I don't know how she forgot, but she did. Tanner and I decided to make Dad a cake all by ourselves. Mom just watched, but didn't say anything. I think it turned out pretty good, but maybe too much frosting. We used two whole tubs of frosting! I hope he likes it when he gets home from work.
Day 56
October 1, 2008
Dear Diary, Soccer starts next week, so Tanner and I have been practicing in our yard in the afternoons. Oaklee loves to come out too and she chases around whoever is kicking the ball, barking at them. She's such a funny dog! I'm really really excited for soccer to start though, it feels like forever since we had our instructional camp. I'm moving up to the next level, U11/U12. That should be tougher, but I'm pretty competitive.
Day 55
September 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Dad said we could go to the park today for a bbq. My friend Rebecca is coming with us too. And since dogs are allowed at this park, Oaklee can come. I'll have to bring a ball or something for her to fetch. I think we're grilling chicken. The only thing I won't be able to eat is the corn on the cobb. I'll have to cut my corn off the cobb because of my braces. Braces can sometimes be a pain.
Day 54
September 25, 2008
Dear Diary, Tanner is pestering me with Knock-knock jokes. He got this book full of them from the library. And he can never just read it by himself, he has to have someone do the joke with him. Well, that leaves me, since Dad is outside doing who knows what in the yard. Some of the jokes are cute, but some of them are pretty dumb I think.
Day 53
September 21, 2008
Dear Diary, Yesterday wasn't a lot of fun doing chores, but I did make some extra money. Mom promised she'd take me to the mall today so I can look around. One of the stores I like has some new athletic shorts with stripes on the sides. They might be nice to wear for soccer practices. Mom doesn't think I need anymore soccer shorts, but I do!
Day 52
September 20, 2008
Dear Diary, Dad and Tanner are going to watch a baseball game this afternoon. That means it's just Mom and me. I just can't get into baseball, it moves to slow for me. I think us girls are just going to hang out at home. Maybe I can earn some extra allowance money if I do extra chores today. Sometimes if I help wash the car or something my parents let me earn extra.
Day 51
September 18, 2008
Dear Diary, Soccer will be starting in a few more weeks. We don't start with the actual games at first. In the beginning, there are instructional clinics for all the kids to practice skills. It's kind of fun getting to be with the other kids who aren't necessarily on my team. I wonder which team I'll be on this year anyway. We should find out pretty soon.
Day 50
September 14, 2008
Dear Diary, I know I was a little anxious about what all the other kids would say about my braces, but so far its been good. Some kids even said they wish they could get braces too. I have to put wax on the side brackets every night before bed. If I forget, I sometimes wake up with sores on the inside of my cheek from the braces rubbing on them while I sleep. Ouch!
Day 49
September 11, 2008
Dear Diary, Our art teacher has us working on a memorial project for September 11th. It's this beaded mural of the twin towers and the New York skyline. I think it's really neat that we can do something positive to remember and pay respect to the victims from that day. I don't remember it myself since it happened in 2001, but we learn about it in school.
Day 48
September 8, 2008
Dear Diary, Things are slowly but surely getting back to normal around Baton Rouge. We only missed one day of school that we'll have to make up sometime this year. People are cleaning up all the debris in their yards. Dad has already started repairing the front corner of our house. Even though it was scarey to listen to the storm as it passed, I'm thankful it wasn't worse.
Day 47
September 2, 2008
Dear Diary, The good news is we're all okay. The front corner of our house has some damage, but Dad says it's not too bad. We were lucky. Some of our neighbors were not as lucky. There is a huge oak tree that fell onto someone's house down the street. The family is okay, but their house isn't. We still don't have any power, but hopefully that will come back on soon. All our company is still here too, not sure when they'll be able to go home. School has been cancelled for today, but they're hoping to be ready to open again tomorrow.
Day 46
September 1, 2008
Dear Diary, Our house is packed with family and a few friends who evacuated from New Orleans. Hurricane Gustav should be making landfall sometime later this morning. We're about an hour away from the coast. We've all been glued to the tv watching for weather updates. Also, we've been staring out the window, watching the trees bend and whip around and the rain looks like it's falling sideways. The lights have been flickering, but so far we haven't lost power yet. It's a weird feeling because it's fascinating that a storm can be so powerful, but also a little scarey too. I just hope everyone stays safe.
Day 45
August 31, 2008
Dear Diary, I think Rebecca and I have worked everything out. It was a misunderstanding. I swear, some girls just try to start problems between friends sometimes. They must be bored or something. Anyways, we're going to walk to school together from now on.
Day 44
August 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, I thought we were going to have a fun weekend, but I guess not. The news is saying that Hurricane Gustav is probably heading our way. We don't live right on the coast, but Baton Rouge is not far inland. If it really is a category 3 hurricane, then we may have bad weather. So now my parents say we have to spend the weekend getting ready. That means working in the yard to get rid of tree limbs and moving patio furniture. Plus, we have to fill our hurricane kit with food, batteries and everything else.
Day 43
August 26, 2008
Dear Diary, School was starting off just fine until Rebecca found me after school today. She wanted to know if I really told kids in one of my classes that I didn't want to be her friend anymore. Why would she think I would say that? We've been friends forever! And why do people start such mean rumors anyway?
Day 42
August 23, 2008
Dear Diary, Last weekend before school starts. I'm actually getting more excited the closer it gets. Fall soccer will be starting soon. I think I might need some new cleats before then. My last pair are all worn out and have a hole in the top. Fall soccer is so much more fun than summer since it's not as hot outside.
Day 41
August 19, 2008
Dear Diary, School starts already? Next Monday is our first day back. I'm a little nervous about what kids are going to say about my new braces. I've gotten used to them now. I just can't eat sticky foods like cotton candy or hard food like popcorn. Anyways, I just don't want to be teased about wearing them. It's not like I had a choice or anything.
Day 40
August 17, 2008
Dear Diary, My family has been pretty much loafing around this weekend watching the Olympics on tv. I'm not all that interested in the ping-pong or badminton events. I do love watching the soccer and track and field. Tomorrow night is the women's semifinals for soccer. The USA will be playing against Japan. Hopefully I can stay up late enough to watch it!
Day 39
August 13, 2008
Dear Diary, Poor Oaklee. She came home from the groomer's today and I almost didn't recognize her. The lady shaved her hair way too short. And then she put this ridiculous looking bow around her collar. I like when Oaklee's hair is a little longer and soft and fluffy. Now she looks like a rat. At least it will grow back. Eventually.
Day 38
August 9, 2008
Dear Diary, You know sometimes my parents cook dinners that I just don't like. I feel bad telling them that something tastes "gross", but sometimes that's how I really feel. Tonight my mom was all beside herself when she saw me pushing food around my plate and not eating much. I really don't like lasagne. Why does there have to be so much tomato sauce in it? Dad says spaghetti sauce is just like ketchup, but I don't think so.
Day 37
August 6, 2008
Dear Diary, Okay, now that I have my new school clothes and all my school supplies I'm starting to feel ready to go back to school. I'm a little nervous about how hard the homework will be though. Hopefully it won't be too much. The kids in the grades ahead of you always make it out to be worse than it really is.
Day 36
August 2, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom and I went shopping for school clothes this morning. When we were at the mall we ran into a girl I know from school named Heidi. We talked about how summer was going and all that. She said something about me looked different, but she couldn't tell what it was. So then I smiled really big to show her my braces. Then she realized what it was!
Day 35
July 27, 2008
Dear Diary, Sometimes I wish I was older. I really really want to see the Batman movie that just came out. Mom and Dad said no way, that I'm not old enough and blah blah blah. They wouldn't even let Tanner see it, and he's three years older than me.
Day 34
July 26, 2008
Dear Diary, Finally my teeth are not hurting so much. I can actually eat food now. My brother Tanner is jealous and says he wants braces now too. I told him I wish he could have mine. I guess when school starts in a few weeks everyone will see that I got braces. I hope no one will tease me about them. It's not like I had a choice or something.
Day 33
July 24, 2008
Dear Diary, Looking at myself in the mirror with my new braces isn't so bad. What's bad is how my teeth hurt. They ache and feel like they're mushy if that makes any sense. Mom had to give me some tylenol to help. The dentist said they should only hurt for a few days and after that I should feel fine. I hope so, even eating yogurt hurts right now.
Day 32
July 19, 2008
Dear Diary, My mom can be really sweet sometimes. She knows I'm a little worried about getting braces on Wednesday. So this weekend she went shopping so I could eat all my favorite things I won't be able to eat with braces on. Things like corn on the cobb, cotton candy, and popcorn. Not all the healthiest foods, but I'll miss them.
Day 31
July 16, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom just made the appointment. Next Wednesday is the big day for me to get my braces. They said my teeth might be sore for a few days, so have plenty of soft food ready. I guess that's okay since I like yogurt.
Day 30
July 14, 2008
Dear Diary, I just got home from the dentist, and they said I have to get braces. I used to think it was kind of cool when I saw friends of mine getting them. But I don't want them! Then other kids might make fun of me. How long will I have to wear them? And why did I have to suck my thumb when I was little and make my teeth crooked?
Day 29
July 10, 2008
Dear Diary, We went to the Y to find out about swimming. There's a class I can join for summer that's three days a week. That still gives me time for soccer. Then I can join the competitive swim team if I make tryouts. Once school starts I can keep swimming, or I can drop it if it's too much for me to do.
Day 28
July 9, 2008
Dear Diary, I've been playing soccer for a long time now. And I love it! But now I want to try swimming too. I want to do both! Mom says as long as it's not too much I can do them both. In the summer it's no problem. But once school starts I'll have homework and projects too. My friend Rebecca thinks she wants to try swimming too. Mom's going to take me over to the Y and see what we can find out.
Day 27
July 5, 2008
Dear Diary, Our picnic yesterday was a lot of fun! We grilled hotdogs and had potato salad. But I didn't want to eat until after the swimming. We were playing sharks and minnows in the pool. It always ended up being boys against girls. But we had a good time, and got to stay up pretty late. That's always fun!
Day 26
July 3, 2008
Dear Diary, I can't believe that tomorrow is already the 4th of July! We're having a neighborhood picnic. Which usually means the kids go swimming, while the parents sit around and talk. It's always a lot of fun, and it's something we do pretty much every 4th of July. Hopefully this year the fireworks won't scare Oaklee. Last year, she was hiding under my bed all night.
Day 25
June 30, 2008
Dear Diary, Poor Oaklee. Ever since soccer camp started I feel like I haven't had as much time to play with her, or take her for walks. She gets so excited to go for walks. As soon as she hears me get out the leash, she starts jumping up and down. So tonight, after dinner, I took her for a walk around the neighborhood with my mom, even though I was exhausted. Making Oaklee happy was worth it!
Day 24
June 29, 2008
Dear Diary, Finally, Rebecca and I got to hang out together this weekend. We went to the movies with her dad to see "Wall-E". It was okay, but I had fun seeing my friend. I know it's hard when there's soccer camp to see my friends as much. Only a couple more weeks and we'll be done. This summer is really going fast. Before I know it, school will be starting again.
Day 23
June 25, 2008
Dear Diary, Could it be any hotter outside? Soccer camp is outside most of the day. I didn't know you could sweat this much. At least the coaches are good about making sure we drink plenty of water and take breaks. Last year I remember it was so hot, a girl passed out on the field. That was kind of scarey.
Day 22
June 24, 2008
Dear Diary, I feel kind of bad that I haven't seen Rebecca much the last couple of weeks. Soccer camp is 5 days a week. And by the time that gets over for the day, we eat dinner. And I'm exhausted and ready for bed! Hopefully this weekend we can get together and do something. I know it's hard for her to understand. She doesn't play any sports and doesn't go to any camps in the summer.
Day 21
June 22, 2008
Dear Diary, Last week my brother Tanner and I started soccer camp. By the end of the day, we're both exhausted and I feel like a Stinkerbell myself! It really is a lot of fun though. We do a lot of skill drills. Then once a day we team up and practice what we've learned in a game. By the end of camp in a few more weeks, coach says we should all be better players.
Day 20
June 18, 2008
Dear Diary, My brother's been finding new jokes again. This one is actually pretty funny. What do you call a fairy who doesn't take a bath? A Stinkerbell! Get it? I had to write that down before I forgot it. Well, I'm off to take Oaklee for a walk with my mom. It's so hot out during the day, we had to wait until after dinner.
Day 19
June 15, 2008
Dear Diary, It worked! My dad figured out the four clues we left for him at different places. The funny part was that to get the next clue, he had to do a challenge. One challenge was to say the alphabet backwards! We all laughed and had a great time at the fondue restaurant we went to for dinner.
Day 18
June 11, 2008
Dear Diary, Father's Day is coming up this weekend. My mom, Tanner and I are planning a really cool scavenger hunt. Dad will have to go all around town finding clues that will lead him to the restaurant we picked out for dinner. It should be a lot of fun. Dad is usually a good sport about going on adventures.
Day 17
June 6, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, next week is finally our last week of school! We're having a Summer Festival at school next Thursday. All the classes run booths with games and crafts. It's kind of like a fair. The parents do most of the work though, and the students get to go around all day having fun. They have music and lots of yummy food. I wish the festival would hurry up and get here!
Day 16
June 3, 2008
Dear Diary, Sometimes I hate when I come home from school and there are already chores waiting for me. Like today, I came home and my mom tells me that we're going to do yardwork this afternoon. I don't mind cleaning my room and bathroom. Even doing the dishes isn't so bad. But I cannot stand doing yardwork. It's just so boring! Tanner has to help too, so at least we can keep each other company.
Day 15
May 30, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, my ankle is feeling a little better. There's a small bruise, but nothing serious. I've been resting it a lot. That means sitting around hanging out with my dog Oaklee. I brush her and rub her tummy, which she loves. And she's getting pretty good at playing fetch. I think that's because she likes the treats I give her if she brings back the ball!
Day 14
May 27, 2008
Dear Diary, We did have a lot of fun at the parent/child soccer game yesterday. I didn't get to play as much as I usually do though. Halfway through the game I turned my ankle. It's not broken or anything. My coach says it's probably just a small sprain. I hope so, because soccer camp starts in 3 weeks! My parents said to try to rest my ankle as much as I can. That's so hard to do because I'm so active, but I'll try.
Day 13
May 26, 2008
Dear Diary, Our soccer team is having a parents against kids game since there's no school today. It should be a lot of fun! We do this every year, and afterwards we have a big cookout. I can't wait for the watermelon. Last year the adults won by 1 goal. Hopefully we can win this year!
Day 12
May 22, 2008
Dear Diary, I was all ready to go home and play after school today. But when my dad picked me up, he told me we were going shopping for a new dishwasher. Not my idea of fun at all. Boring is more like it! This morning when we woke up and went into the kitchen, the floor was covered with water. I understand we need a dishwasher, but I don't want to shop for one. That's not real shopping.
Day 11
May 20, 2008
Dear Diary, My parents have decided that yes I can do soccer camp for a few weeks this summer! They said I have to help with chores as part of the deal, but that's okay, anything is worth it! As long as I don't have to clean Tanner's room, it's a disaster! But I could wash the dog and help clean the kitchen, stuff like that.
Day 10
May 17, 2008
Dear Diary, Brothers can be such pests sometimes. Tanner is always trying to be funny. He likes to tell Knock Knock jokes. Like "knock knock" and I say "Who's there?" And he says "knock knock?" and I say "who's there?" and he says "knock knock" AGAIN. After the last time I say "who's there?" he says "orange". So I say "orange who?" And he laughs, "Orange you glad I didn't say knock knock?" Ha Ha Tanner.
Day 9
May 15, 2008
Dear Diary, Did you know that milk smells disgusting? I guess I forgot about the glass of milk I took into my room the other day. I think maybe Oaklee knocked it over and it must have spilled under my bed. My mom kept walking up and down the hallway sniffing in the air. When I went into my room afterschool today it was the yuckiest smell I ever smelled. Mom says no more drinks allowed in our bedrooms.
Day 8
May 12, 2008
Dear Diary, I sure had fun this weekend. I spent the night at Rebecca's house and we played Marco Polo in her pool. Then her mom ordered pizza for us for dinner. Yummy! Pizza is my favorite. Then yesterday I came home and it was Mother's day. We went to my Grandma's house and had lunch with her. I love my Grandma so much!
Day 7
May 10, 2008
Dear Diary, Today is Saturday and I get to spend the night at my friend Rebecca's house! We are going to go swimming in her pool and play outside all day. I can't wait! I hope Tanner takes good care of Oaklee for me while I'm gone. Maybe I'll feed him extra before I leave just in case Tanner forgets. I better go pack my bag for Rebecca's house!
Day 6
May 8, 2008
Dear Diary, I know I haven't written in so long, but soccer keeps me pretty busy. We just finished spring soccer. Our team came in second place in the league! That's better than last year when we didn't even make the playoffs. I hope my parents will let me do soccer camp this summer! Dad said they would have to talk about it.
Day 5
April 4, 2008
Dear Diary, I started a new book series. (I think these are my favorite books now.) In the back, they have paper doll punchouts. I think I will give them to my neighbor who has been collecting them for years.
Day 4
April 1, 2008
Dear Diary, Nothing happened today except when I was taking Oaklee out for a walk, it started pouring rain. We ran for home, but when we got there, we were soaked! My mom put both of us in her warm shower…ahhhhh!
Day 3
March 29, 2008
Dear Diary, my dog, Oaklee, is sooo cute! I dressed her up in my old doll clothes. They fit pretty well, but she could never wear the pants because her tail won’t fit! Aren’t I lucky to have a dog that lets me dress her up? You should look at her picture…isn’t she cute?!!
Day 2
March 26, 2008
Dear Diary, I didn’t score the first goal, but I did score the winning goal, which to me was even better! My entire team went out for ice cream!
Day 1
March 23, 2008
Dear Diary, Today I bought new soccer cleats. They are red and white. I practiced running and shooting with them on in my backyard. I just know I am going to score the first goal tomorrow.
