Tatiana's Diary
Day 155
March 19, 2010
Dear Diary, Aunt Sonja, Mom and I are going out to dinner tonight. My mom said I can pick the place. Well, definitely not wings, that's where we went last time. A big hamburger with french fries sounds good right now. I must be getting hungry!
Day 154
March 17, 2010
Dear Diary, Okay, so I forgot to wear green for St. Patrick's Day! I don't see what the big deal is, my family isn't even Irish. Anyways, a couple of my friends actually pinched me, and it hurt! Our teacher felt bad but said the pinching is something about being invisible to leprechauns. Whatever, don't pinch me!
Day 153
March 11, 2010
Dear Diary, Okay, my hand did not actually fall off from writing so much. It did get kind of sore though. I can't believe how much I wrote. I tried to remember everything Mr. Milano has been teaching us about the things that good writers do. You always need a beginning, middle, end, lots of good details, stuff like that. We won't even find out until the end of the school year how we did.
Day 152
March 7, 2010
Dear Diary, We did so much writing in school last week, all to get us ready for the big writing assessment that's Wednesday. I know I'll do good, so I'm not that worried. It's just that it's so long to write! We have to write for at least an hour straight! My hand is going to fall off-
Day 151
February 27, 2010
Dear Diary, It's Saturday and I want to relax and hang out, but my mom is already nagging me about my room and cleaning the rest of the house. That's so not fun. She said we can go do something fun after the chores are done. I just hope it's my idea of something fun and not just her's-
Day 150
February 25, 2010
Dear Diary, I helped Aunt Sonja after school with her dog walking. She had a lot of dogs today. There's this new cute little puppy named Lexie. She's adorable, but she pee'd on the floor in her house before I could even get her outside. I'm so glad we don't have a puppy! I would hate cleaning up that all the time.
Day 149
February 20, 2010
Dear Diary, I got this new cool art project to try, but it's really hard. It comes with all these bendable sticks in all different colors, and you're supposed to bend the sticks to make different animals and stuff like that. Well, my dog does not look like a dog at all. Maybe I'm just not doing it right. Aunt Sonja said she'd try to help me with it after dinner.
Day 148
February 13, 2010
Dear Diary, We're going skating at this new iceskating rink at Wrigley. Today's actually the first day it's open. I'm really excited since I haven't ever been iceskating before. At least, I don't think I ever have. Mom says she can't remember. Time to get ready!
Day 147
February 10, 2010
Dear Diary, I won a drawing at school today for kids who earned honor roll. Wanna guess what I won? A recorder! You know, one of those instruments that when you play it is really, really loud? Not exactly my thing, but hey, I won something. Maybe I'll give it to one of my friends who likes it.
Day 146
February 6, 2010
Dear Diary, Ouch, my eyes! My Aunt Sonja always carries pepper spray with her when she walks the dogs. Well, last night I was cleaning up the kitchen and moved it into the cabinet. I must have touched my eye after touching the can, and ouch! My eye was watering and burning so bad. Now I see why they call it pepper spray! At least Aunt Sonja helped me wash out my eye, she felt so bad.
Day 145
January 30, 2010
Dear Diary, Staying at Lulu's last night was fun, but I'm so tired today. We just did not want to go to sleep. I think it was like 2 in the morning when her mom came in and yelled at us to go to sleep. We weren't doing anything wrong, just talking and listening to music. Sorry!
Day 144
January 28, 2010
Dear Diary, Lulu invited my to spend the night tomorrow night. I'm going to to her house right from school. I'll just have to bring my backpack and my big bag to school with me. I think I can carry all that. I can't wait!
Day 143
January 19, 2010
Dear Diary, We went to see the a movie last weekend, and I still can't decide if I liked it or not. Parts of it were funny, but parts of it were really stupid. I think the first one was better. I guess you can't love every movie you see.
Day 142
January 14, 2010
Dear Diary, I am so excited that "American Idol" has started again! I feel kind of bad for the people in the auditions because the judges can be really tough, but it's neat to hear so many people. I love the show, but I already know I wasn't born to be a singer. Maybe I can be a chef or something. Not that anyone knows how to cook in my family, maybe I could be the first!
Day 141
January 8, 2010
Dear Diary, No school today because of the snow! I can't believe how yucky it is outside. It's too cold to even jumprope in the basement, and my mom does not let me do it in the house. Looks like Aunt Sonja and I will be hanging out watching movies today. Sounds like fun!
Day 140
January 7, 2010
Dear Diary, I wish Zippy would learn to clean out his own cage. How can one little bird make such a mess? He really is a good bird though. As soon as I take his cover off his cage in the morning, he starts singing. He's so happy to see me!
Day 139
December 30, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom had this great idea to use a humidifier in our house so the air doesn't get so dry for my nose, and you know what? I think it's working! I mean, it's only been one day, but my nose feels much better already. I hope it lasts!
Day 138
December 29, 2009
Dear Diary, I know it sounds gross, but my nose will not stop bleeding. This happens every winter. As soon as we turn the heat on and my noes gets all dry, it starts bleeding. It can be really embarassing when it happens in school and I don't know until it's too late. People really freak out! I guess I would too if I were them.
Day 137
December 22, 2009
Dear Diary, I hope we get to go to the zoo for the zoolights festival before it's over. I think it goes until January, which is almost here. It's not like I haven't seen it before, but it's cool. I'm off to help Aunt Sonja with dogwalking. Wish me luck with that big great dane!
Day 136
December 19, 2009
Dear Diary, We're going to the outlet mall tomorrow. I haven't been there in awhile, hopefully there are some new stores there. Last time it seemed like they had lots of grown-up stores, but not so many for my age. We'll see-
Day 135
December 10, 2009
Dear Diary, Some girl at school asked me today if I color my hair. She seemed surprised that I don't. Is that a compliment or not? I know some girls might color their hair, but I like mine the way it is. Sometimes it's a little frizzy, but that's only when it's rainy.
Day 134
December 6, 2009
Dear Diary, Butter toffee is really good, but it's so sticky. I think Aunt Sonja and I ate almost the whole thing. Pretty soon I have to go take my shower. My mom wants to go have lunch downtown and walk around. Sounds good to me-
Day 133
November 30, 2009
Dear Diary, Mr. Milano wasn't in school today, and our class was really wild. I think everyone was just excited about Thanksgiving break last week. We watched a science movie, and had some activity sheets to do, but nothing exciting. At least music was fun.
Day 132
November 25, 2009
Dear Diary, Vacation this week, you know what that means...helping Aunt Sonja with her dog walking job. I'm kind of used to it now, and I definitely like the extra money. After we walk this morning, Aunt Sonja said Nicole can come over and play till Mom comes home. Cool!
Day 131
November 15, 2009
Dear Diary, Our neighbors are playing their tv so loud that I can even tell what show they're watching! It's a football game. Mom said if they don't turn it down, she's going to go ask them to. Oh, I hope they just turn it down on their own. I think I'll put on my mp3 player with my headphones, and then I can't hear it anyway.
Day 130
November 9, 2009
Dear Diary, We heard about the shooting in Texas on the radio. I don't really understand what happened, but I'm thinking about all the soldiers who were injured. It's very sad. On the way to school, you could see all the flags had been lowered to show respect. I think it's good to show respect.
Day 129
November 5, 2009
Dear Diary, We have to go furniture shopping after school today. Two of the chairs for our kitchen table have broken, and my mom says it's time to buy a new table set. Maybe she'll let me help pick it out. Then I get to come home and do all my homework. Maybe I should just bring my homework with us so I can get it done...
Day 128
November 1, 2009
Dear Diary, Okay, the spooky zoo thing was not so spooky. It was actually kind of lame. The little kids loved it, but I don't think it was really meant for big kids. Oh well, we had fun at the zoo doing other stuff. Aunt Sonja was laughing at me for eating an icecream even though it was cold outside. Never too cold for icecream!
Day 127
October 25, 2009
Dear Diary, Cool! We're going to the Spooky Zoo Spectacular at the zoo today. There's supposed to be music and crafts and other stuff to do. I hope it's not too babyish, but Mom says if it is we'll just do the rest of the zoo on our own like we usually do.
Day 126
October 22, 2009
Dear Diary, Last night I woke up in the middle of the night. I kept hearing this funny beeping noise. Finally, I realized it was this cash register ATM machine I have in my closet. I guess the batteries are wearing out or something since it was making noise even when I turned it off. I ended up putting it in the laundry room so I could sleep!
Day 125
October 19, 2009
Dear Diary, 190 million dollars! That's how much some guy just won in the lottery. I can't even think about what that must be like. You could go shopping and buy pretty much anything you wanted. You could do anything...but then again, everybody you know would probably be asking for money. You may not have any left. Unless, you won the lottery and just didn't tell anyone!
Day 124
October 15, 2009
Dear Diary, Aunt Sonja freaked me out tonight. She asked me what I would think if she moved out and got her own place. I was totally honest, I told her I'd hate it. She's been living with us for about 6 months now, and I can't imagine her not being here. It doesn't feel as lonely and quiet as when it's just Mom and me. I hope she was just asking and isn't serious about moving.
Day 123
October 9, 2009
Dear Diary, My mom went out tonight with a friend of her's to see a movie. That meant Aunt Sonja and I were on our own for dinner. Remember that my Aunt Sonja once burned our Thanksgiving turkey? Well, we had hotdogs for dinner tonight. I guess Aunt Sonja figured that would be something safe she could make. I hope my mom is having fun, she hardly ever gets to go out.
Day 122
October 4, 2009
Dear Diary, How can you say no to Chicago?!?!?! We did not get the Summer Olympics for 2016. I really thought we would get it, especially since our President is from Chicago. Some place called Rio de Janeiro got it. Mom says that's in Brazil, in South America. We didn't even come close, we were number 4 out of 4. Too bad, that would have been really cool since I live here.
Day 121
September 27, 2009
Dear Diary, We watched the White Sox game last night at our friends' house. It was a great game in the beginning, we were up by 5 runs. And then for some reason we stoppped trying, and we ended up losing because of it. There's only a few more games left in the season. At least we had fun grilling out with our friends.
Day 120
September 24, 2009
Dear Diary, My room is such a disaster right now, and my mom finally said no more playing outside until it's clean. I don't even know where to start it's such a mess! Right now I should be cleaning, but I'm just not feeling like it. I bet it's not going to clean itself is it? Uggh.
Day 119
September 18, 2009
Dear Diary, Whew! Thankfully, my mom did not freak. She wasn't over the moon happy about my agenda book, but she didn't freak out like I though she might. She said as long as I have mostly happy face days at school, and only a couple straight faced days that it's okay. I guess nobody's perfect, huh?
Day 118
September 16, 2009
Dear Diary, My mom is going to frak when she gets home from work! I got a straight lined face in my agenda book from my teacher. It's not a happy face, not a frowny face, but a straight lined face. And Mr. Milano wrote a note in there that says I need to spend a little more time working and less time talking with my friends. I was talking a little bit during independent reading, but I didn't think I was that bad!
Day 117
September 10, 2009
Dear Diary, Back to school! Nicole and Lulu are in my class, but our seats are far apart. That's okay, our teacher, Mr. Milano lets us move around a lot to do projects and activities. I can't believe all three of us are in the same class! Usually I never get my best friends in the same class. Lucky me-
Day 116
September 6, 2009
Dear Diary, I went speedwalking this afternoon with Aunt Sonja and it was kind of fun. We talked the whole time we were walking, so it made the time go by really fast. She says it's really good exercise and gets your heart rate up. I'm not sure I want to do it every day, but it was fun. I think jumping rope is great exercise too-
Day 115
August 31, 2009
Dear Diary, Zippy has been very quiet today. I don't think he's sleeping or anything, he's just not singing like he usually does. I miss his noises when he gets like this. Maybe I should try moving him to a different window in the house, then he can have a different view. Good idea!
Day 114
August 28, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm just now starting to feel better. Finally! I only have one week left of summer vacation, and I hate to waste it being sick. Aunt Sonja and I are getting ready to go do her dog sitting. Actually, she now has a cat to feed and take care of too. The dogs love when you come visit and play. The cat doesn't seem to care about getting pet or anything. I'm not a big cat person-
Day 113
August 21, 2009
Dear Diary, I have such a headache. My mom says I probably haven't had enough water to drink since I was playing outside all day. I'm not sure what that has to do with a headache, but my mom always says stuff like that, "you need to drink more water." "Eat and you'll feel better." I think I'm just going to curl up on the couch with my favorite blue blanket-
Day 112
August 16, 2009
Dear Diary, We did something fun today that was not LegoLand. Sorry Mom! We went to the Ribs 'n'Soul Festival. I love bbq food, and they had some of the best ribs there. We ate and listened to the music. It was a great day-
Day 111
August 7, 2009
Dear Diary, My mom wanted us to go to the LegoLand Discovery Center, but I had to tell her that I'm just not that into Legos. I used to play with them some when I was little, but not anymore. I think she was disappointed. I told her we should go do something else fun. Maybe I should come up with an idea-
Day 110
August 5, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom and I made this really awesome trail mix. It has sunflower seeds, raisins, almonds, and a bunch of other stuff. I love it, and my mom says it's good for me too. We're going to bring it with us to the park this afternoon.
Day 109
July 30, 2009
Dear Diary, Nicole came over and saw my new loft bed, and now she wants one. I told her I love mine. Wouldn't it be cool if we both had loft beds? Got to go, I promised my mom I'd help her wash her car when she got home.
Day 108
July 27, 2009
Dear Diary, Why oh why did our air conditioning have to die? Hey, that rhymes! It is hot as can be outside and I bet it's just as hot in our house. Mom called the service guy, but he can't come until tomorrow. I guess he's really busy or something. Please let it rain!
Day 107
July 22, 2009
Dear Diary, I miss Aunt Sonja lately. Yes, she still lives with us, but ever since she started dating this guy, she doesn't hang out at home as much. I think my mom misses her too, but she doesn't say anything about it.
Day 106
July 18, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom and I went to the game last night. Aunt Sonja had a date, so she didn't come with us. It was fun, especially when you win! Baltimore is a pretty good team, so I was worried. I don't think that hotdog was very good though, my stomach has been hurting all day today. I can't even think about jumping rope, uggh!
Day 105
July 10, 2009
Dear Diary, I was hoping we could go to a baseball game this weekend, but the White Sox play all three games away at Minnesota. Maybe we can go next weekend when they play Baltimore at home. It's okay watching them on tv, but definitely more fun to go to the games. Well, I'm going to go see if the twins next door want to jump rope. Bye!
Day 104
July 7, 2009
Dear Diary, Aunt Sonja and I walked 3 big greyhounds this morning. I was worried they might run around all crazy, but they didn't. Aunt Sonja said they're retired racing dogs. I guess dogs slow down when they get older.
Day 103
June 30, 2009
Dear Diary, Is next Saturday already the Fourth of July?!?! I wonder what my mom, Aunt Sonja and I are going to do? We haven't even talked about it yet, and it's almost here. I love to watch the big fireworks over the lake. We do that most every year.
Day 102
June 26, 2009
Dear Diary, Nicole and I had a jumping rope contest to see who could jump the most times in a row without messing up. The winner had to make the loser a glass of iced tea. I lost, but that's okay. Nicole is awesome at jumping rope by herself, but I'm better at double dutch.
Day 101
June 21, 2009
Dear Diary, Lulu and I played outside all morning. We did jumproping and sidewalk chalk. I have this neat thing that looks like a rake and holds all the colors of chalk. When you pull it behind you on the cement, it looks like a rainbow. I got it last summer and totally forgot I had it until today.
Day 100
June 16, 2009
Dear Diary, I'm finally starting to feel better. My throat doesn't hurt so much anymore. Mom says by tomorrow I should be able to go out and play with my friends again. Lately, all I've been able to do is talk to them on the phone. That's not the same!
Day 99
June 12, 2009
Dear Diary, All three of us are sick! It stinks being sick when it's so hot outside. My throat is so sore I can barely swallow. I thought once summer was here you didn't get sick anymore? Well, at least I'm not missing any school since it's summer, and my mom lets me watch all the tv I want when I'm sick. She says it's to make sure I lay there and rest.
Day 98
June 8, 2009
Dear Diary, Aunt Sonja and I went to the Millenium Art Festival since my mom had to work. It was neat to see all the different paintings, blown glass and 3-D art. I'm no artist, but it's cool to watch. We split a funnel cake. It was so good we brought one home for Mom too-
Day 97
May 31, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom wants to run errands today. That's okay I guess. She said we can stop for lunch somewhere. There's this awesome deli downtown that has the best sandwiches, and they're so huge you can't even eat the whole thing! Better get dressed-
Day 96
May 28, 2009
Dear Diary, I can hardly believe that next week is our last week of school! Looks like I'll be hanging out with Aunt Sonja. Nicole always goes to lots of summer camps. Mom said maybe I'll go to a few, but not all summer long. That's cool-
Day 95
May 19, 2009
Dear Diary, Us girls were craving something sweet, so after dinner we all walked downtown and had icecream. It was delicious! Then we walked along and looked in the shop windows at all the new summer clothes. Mom said it won't be long before we start our back to school shopping for next year. Already?
Day 94
May 17, 2009
Dear Diary, This is the perfect weather for lots and lots of jumping rope! No more in the basement, now I can go up and down the block if I want to. My teacher said I should practice my spelling words while I'm jumping rope. You know, each jump is a letter of the word. That might be fun! I think I'll go give it a try-
Day 93
May 8, 2009
Dear Diary, This week was boring in school. All we've been doing is review work, and it stinks. I feel like telling Miss Nichols,"we already learned this stuff.". I'm not sure she would appreciate that. She says she's getting us ready for our end of the year testing. Oh joy!
Day 92
May 6, 2009
Dear Diary, I know I've had my loft bed for a couple weeks now, and I really like it, but I still can't get used to it. Last night I thought I felt myself starting to fall out of the bed! And if I wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, I have to really wake up and be careful when I climb down the ladder. Oh well, it's worth it. And now that it's all painted, we just need to find a few things for the walls.
Day 91
April 27, 2009
Dear Diary, My mom is working late again today. She's been doing that a lot lately. When I asked her, she said we need the money, and that she has to take the extra hours when she can get them. I guess, but I still miss her when she's gone so much.
Day 90
April 24, 2009
Dear Diary, Nicole wanted me to come over later, but mom said no. She said she had to work late, and I was staying home with Aunt Sonja. I don't see why Aunt Sonja couldn't just drive me over there the same way Mom would have. Sometimes it's better to just not ask why. Maybe I can see Nicole tomorrow-
Day 89
April 19, 2009
Dear Diary, Can you believe that school starts tomorrow already? Neither can I! But there's only like 7 more weeks of school and then it will be summer vacation. I have no idea what's going on this summer yet.
Day 88
April 15, 2009
Dear Diary, I was hoping we could go to a White Sox game during spring break, but all the games are away games this week. Figures. Aunt Sonja says we can still go watch a game at a restaurant or something. I guess so, but it's not quite the same. We're playing the Rays tomorrow, and they're pretty good. They played in the World Series last season.
Day 87
April 8, 2009
Dear Diary, Spring break is next week. Mom is taking a couple days off from work, but other than that I'll be dogwalking with Aunt Sonja. Hopefully it will be easier than it was in the snow. I've kind of gotten to know some of the dogs, and that makes it more fun.
Day 86
April 5, 2009
Dear Diary, Last night we rented that movie "Bolt". I thought it was really cute! I wish we had a dog like Bolt. I'm not sure Zippy would like a dog in the house though. Well, Mom says she's ready to get back to painting my room. I'm not sure we'll ever get done-
Day 85
March 31, 2009
Dear Diary, I wonder how many April Fool's jokes I'll hear tomorrow since it's April 1st. What a weird holiday, if you can really call it a holiday. Some people go all crazy trying to play jokes on people, and I just don't get it. I wouldn't believe anything I heard on April Fool's Day!
Day 84
March 25, 2009
Dear Diary, My room is looking so great now! Aunt Sonja found me a loft bed with a desk underneath it in the newspaper. We also bought a comforter for my new bed. This weekend we're going to paint it a really pretty light blue color. I tried to talk my mom into green since that's my favorite color, but she said no way. I'm really excited to get it painted!
Day 83
March 19, 2009
Dear Diary, Our teacher gave us back our class pictures. You know, the ones where it's of the entire class? Too funny. I'm not even looking at the camera, but at least I'm smiling. My friend Lulu looks like she's mad, like she's glaring at the camera. Mom says someday I'll be glad I have these class pictures we get every year. We'll see-
Day 82
March 16, 2009
Dear Diary, That stinks! Mom was going to order me this super cute outfit from a store online. We had it all picked out, and sat down to order it tonight. Well, now they're all out of my size! I hate it when that happens.
Day 81
March 10, 2009
Dear Diary, I am so ready for spring to get here. It's still cold outside, and now it's raining again. Jumping rope outside is so much more fun than in the basement. Better get my homework done, Nicole's mom is picking me up to take us to the library later. See ya!
Day 80
March 8, 2009
Dear Diary, Yesterday was moving day. We spent all day helping Aunt Sonja move her stuff from her apartment to our place. I'm feeling a little better now about giving up my bedroom, especially since Mom says we can redecorate my new room! I think it will be fun having her live with us, but I wonder for how long. I know she needed to lower her bills since she's been having some money trouble lately.
Day 79
February 28, 2009
Dear Diary, My mom neglected to tell me one thing yesterday about Aunt Sonja moving in. I have to move into the other smaller bedroom and give Aunt Sonja my room. I guess I can see that since she is the grownup, but what about me! Mom said that will give us a chance to repaint my new room. I think she's just trying to butter me up-
Day 78
February 27, 2009
Dear Diary, I heard some really cool news! Aunt Sonja is going to move in with Mom and me next month! I guess they figured it made sense since we have all this space and Aunt Sonja is living all by herself. When her lease on her apartment ends next month she's movin in. That'll be awesome!
Day 77
February 20, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom wants to go to this new thing downtown called "Sweet Saturdays". They supposedly teach you all about the different plant ingredients that go into making candy. I like candy, so maybe that'll be fun. I just hope they have some candy to eat there, and not just plants.
Day 76
February 17, 2009
Dear Diary, Zippy has been singing all afternoon. I don't know why he's so excited. Usually I like to hear him singing, but it's very distracting when you're trying to do your homework. I had to go into the kitchen where I could concentrate, and I could still hear him a little bit. Silly bird!
Day 75
February 10, 2009
Dear Diary, Nicole is hanging out with us until dinnertime. Her mom has a doctor's appointment or something, so she came home with me after school. We're supposed to be doing our homework. I did most of mine, but then I got bored. There's so much homework lately! I swear my backpack is so full of books and papers that sometimes I can hardly carry it!
Day 74
February 8, 2009
Dear Diary, Friday I brought home some papers about a new fundraiser our school is doing. It's selling magazines or something. Mom said no. She said no more fundraisers for awhile since we've already been doing so many. I think she hates for me to keep asking our friends and family to donate money, especially with the way things are lately. I guess I can understand that.
Day 73
January 30, 2009
Dear Diary, Breakfast this morning was a lot of fun. Our principal actually made us breakfast! She put on a chef's hat and an apron, and made us all the yummiest french toast. I had blueberry sauce all over mine. Then we played a couple games before we went to class. What a great day!
Day 72
January 27, 2009
Dear Diary, I got an invitation to the principal's breakfast! My teacher nominated me after I turned in those checks I found to the front office. And so Friday morning I'll be there with a couple other students. I wonder what we get to eat? Not that I'm a picky eater or anything, I love breakfast.
Day 71
January 18, 2009
Dear Diary, Nicole and I haven't hung out after school in like forever. Tomorrow I'm going home with her after school. We're going to do out homework together, and then play. She has a big basement that you can jumprope in! Yippee!
Day 70
January 17, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom took me to the pet supermarket today so I could buy Zippy's new cage. Between my allowance money and what I earned walking dogs with Aunt Sonja I had just enough. I sure hope Zippy appreciates all my hard work. I bought him a new mirror and a wooden bead toy that hangs inside the cage. I figured he probably gets bored with the same toys all the time.
Day 69
January 6, 2009
Dear Diary, Mom was right. She always says, "it pays to be honest." My teacher was so proud of me for being honest and turning in those checks I found. She is nominating me for the principal's breakfast club for this month! It's not until the end of January, but you get to miss the first part of the school day and go have breakfast with the principal. Kind of cool!
Day 68
January 5, 2009
Dear Diary, I brought home a plastic bag with my book fair books in it today and found something that didn't belong to me. It's an envelope with two checks inside for my school fundraiser we had in December. One check is for forty dollars, and the other one is for twenty. Somehow they were in my bag by mistake. It's not like I get to keep them or anything, I'm going to bring the envelope back to my teacher tomorrow.
Day 67
December 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I definitely liked walking the dogs with Aunt Sonja better in the summer! But I guess it could be worse. At least it hasn't been snowing lately, but it's still pretty cold. I think by the end of vacation I might have most of the money I need to buy Zippy that new cage I want to get for him. I sure hope Zippy appreciates it!
Day 66
December 27, 2008
Dear Diary, You should hear my mom right now! She's vacuuming with the music on really loud and she's dancing all around to some group called Earth Wind & Fire. It's pretty hilarious! My mom can be kind of nutty sometimes, but she's funny. She always tells me that she listened to the same music when I was a baby in her tummy. Funny, I don't remember it!
Day 65
December 23, 2008
Dear Diary, Snow makes it awfully hard to jumprope outside, and Mom's not a big fan of me jumping rope in the house. That kind of stinks. Oh well, at least I'll be busy helping Aunt Sonja with her dog business. In fact, she's coming over in a couple hours. I think I'm going to go clean Zippy's cage.
Day 64
December 18, 2008
Dear Diary, I had a great time at Aunt Sonja's house. Mom got home late from her candle party, so I ended up getting to spend the night. I was amazed that Aunt Sonja made blueberry panacakes for breakfast! They were actually really delicious! She said she saw it on a cooking show. I guess Aunt Sonja's trying to get better at cooking after the Thanksgiving disaster. Good for her-
Day 63
December 15, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom's going to some candle exchange party tonight with her friends, so I get to stay home with Aunt Sonja. I hope that means we're having pizza. Aunt Sonja likes her's with black olives, onions and peppers. Yuck! So I get my half of the pizza with just extra cheese and nothing else. Ooh, there's the doorbell, she must be here. Gotta go!
Day 62
December 11, 2008
Dear Diary, We only have one more week of school before vacation. Aunt Sonja asked me if I want to help her with her dog walking business again, like I did over the summer. I'm not sure how much fun it will be in the cold and snow, but we'll see. At least I can earn some extra money. I'd really like to buy Zippy a new cage that's a little bigger, so I have to start saving.
Day 61
November 27, 2008
Dear Diary, We had the funniest Thanksgiving! Aunt Sonja was determined to make everything herself for the first Thanksgiving ever. Well, Aunt Sonja means well, but she's not a very good cook. The stuffing was very salty, and the turkey was just a little burned. Not a very good smell if you ask me! So, we ended up ordering pizza for Thanksgiving dinner. Mom promised we'll have a do-over Thanksgiving dinner next week, and she'll do the cooking while Aunt Sonja watches.Day 60
November 22, 2008
Dear Diary, I so cannot wait for tomorrow! It's the Chicago Toy and Game Fair at the pier! Mom, Aunt Sonja and I are going to go and play with all the new cool toys coming out. My favorite toy is still the jumprope, but what can they really do to make that different every year? It's still a jumprope!
Day 59
November 13, 2008
Dear Diary, I have so much homework to do tonight. And here I am, still not doing it yet. We get our homework packet every Monday, and then we have until Friday to get it done. Well, I did a little bit Monday night, but that's it so far, and now it's Thursday. I'm usually prety good about getting it done. This week there was just a lot going on I guess.
Day 58
November 10, 2008
Dear Diary, I got to spend the night Friday and Saturday night at Aunt Sonja's house! Mom had to work all weekend. I missed Mom, but Aunt Sonja is so cool to hang out with. We went put-put golfing and watched movies. I can't remember the last time I spent the night there, its been a while. And next weekend I'm spending Saturday night at Nicole's house.
Day 57
November 5, 2008
Dear Diary, The next president is from Chicago! Not that I've ever seen him around the city, but it's still neat that Obama's from here. I wanted to go to the big celebration last night at Grant Park, but Mom said no way because it was way past my bedtime. I guess Obama didn't show until after midnight. Still, it would have been fun. There were tons of people there.
Day 56
November 3, 2008
Dear Diary, My teacher Miss Nichols was absent today, so we had a guest teacher. I don't like it when Miss Nichols isn't there because we're not allowed to use the computers. The guest teachers always try, but they don't really know the way we do things everyday. And then some of the kids are always goofing around and doing things they shouldn't. They know Miss Nichols would never let them throw glitter around the room and stuff like that. I hope Miss Nichols is back tomorrow!
Day 55
October 30, 2008
Dear Diary, Aunt Sonja brought me home a new cool winter hat and scarf. It looks like someone knitted it, but she said she found it at some boutique out there. I love it! Blue is my favorite color. I'll probably be needing it soon too. The weather has been really odd lately, one day is 70 degrees, and the next it's 30!
Day 54
October 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Everytime I try to brush my hair it gets all full of static and starts crackling. It makes it very hard to brush. Then I feel like I shouldn't bother because it's all standing up anyway. Sometimes I hate my hair. Oh well, Mom's yelling for me to get my jacket on, we're on our way to pick up Aunt Sonja. Yeah! I really missed her.
Day 53
October 24, 2008
Dear Diary, I had a lot of fun with Nicole today! We were jumping rope and playing in all the piles of leaves in the yard. I didn't even notice how late it was getting, but Mom said she had already called Nicole's parents to see if Nicole could stay for dinner too. I love my mom! We made spaghetti and meatballs, which I love. I'm so glad Nicole and I got to hang out again.
Day 52
October 22, 2008
Dear Diary, I really like my teacher Miss Nichols, but I really miss having Nicole in my class. We've been best friends for like forever. I still see her in the cafeteria and out at p.e., but it's not the same. And this year we have way more homework than last year, so it's even hard to see each other after school. I'm going to ask Mom if Nicole can come over Friday after school since there's no school the next day.
Day 51
October 19, 2008
Dear Diary, Zippy will not stop squawking for some reason. I don't know what her deal is. Is she bored? Is she hungry? I've tried everything. Maybe I'll move her cage over by a different window and see how she likes that.....well, so far so good, Zippy's singing now. I guess she just needed a change of scenery.
Day 50
October 16, 2008
Dear Diary, We had to go to the airport last night to drop off Aunt Sonja. She's going to Idaho to visit some friends. O'Hare airport is so busy. There was like nowhere to park and people everywhere. We were worried Aunt Sonja would miss her plane, but it actually was delayed and she ended up waiting two more hours before her plane took off. I hope she comes back soon!
Day 49
October 10, 2008
Dear Diary, Aunt Sonja is so funny! I was outside jumping rope when she came over. She asked me if she could try because she used to love jumping rope. I think Aunt Sonja forgot how to do it or something, because she tripped and almost fell over. I tried not to laugh, but it was hard! Even she was laughing!
Day 48
October 8, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, the Sox are all done for this season. They would have had to win three games in a row to win the series, but they lost to the Rays. They still had a good year, but it would have been fun to keep watching them. I'm done with baseball until next season now. I really only watch when the White Sox are playing anyway.
Day 47
October 5, 2008
Dear Diary, They won! They won! The Sox beat the Rays tonight and now they have to win two more games in a row. I hope they can do it. And I hope tomorrow's game is on early enough that I can watch it. Mom's not big on me staying up late on a school night.
Day 46
October 4, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm so sad. The Chicago White Sox have lost the first two playoff games in a row. Maybe it's because they played away games. Tomorrow they play back here. I hope they win and move on to the next series! I wish we could go to the game, but Mom said tickets were way to expensive and it's hard to even find any tickets left. Instead, we're going over to Aunt Sonja's place to watch the game and have dinner. Go White Sox!!!
Day 45
September 30, 2008
Dear Diary, Yesterday was so much fun with Jump Rope for Heart. We even had a group vertical jump contest. Every person on your team had to measure their vertical jump. Then we added everybody's inches on the team together. The team with the highest jump all together won. We came in second place, but it was still fun.
Day 44
September 27, 2008
Dear Diary, Jump Rope for Heart is Monday, so I've been practicing at home. I've got my pledge sheet all ready to go. Mom said she'd give my $20 if I can do it. I know I can, since I jump rope all the time! My teacher Miss Nichols even said I can bring in my very own rope to use. Of course it's my green and purple one!
Day 43
September 25, 2008
Dear Diary, My birthday is still so far away. It already feels like it was forever ago. April. Now I have a whole nother 6 month to wait! I wish we got to celebrate two birthdays a year. Maybe I'll ask my mom if we can have a party just because, or maybe a Halloween party since Halloween is on a Friday this year.
Day 42
September 22, 2008
Dear Diary, I had a lot of fun with my dad this weekend. We went out for lunch to this deli downtown called "Lucky's". They serve breakfast all day, which I love. I had strawberry frenchtoast. It was delicious! Other than that, we went to the park and did some shopping. I can't believe how fast the weekend went by!
Day 41
September 20, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm all ready to go to my dad's. Zippy is fed and has fresh water, my bag is packed. I think that's everything. Oh wait, I need to bring my jumprope too. Be right back! Okay, I didn't want to forget it like I did last time. Anyways, Dad says we're going to go out for lunch and then plan the rest of the day. I can't wait to see him!
Day 40
September 16, 2008
Dear Diary, This weekend I'm going to see my dad. I haven't seen him in a while. I wonder what we'll do. Maybe we can go to the zoo or something. He's supposed to call tonight after dinner, I'll have to ask him. Better get going on my homework...
Day 39
September 13, 2008
Dear Diary, This weather always makes my hair frizzy. Everybody always says "oh you're so lucky to have wavey hair." Except that for me, having a good hair day depends on the weather. If it's really humid then my hair gets frizzy. Hence the way my hair looks today. I think I'm just going to give up and wear a ponytail. It's my hair disguise!
Day 38
September 11, 2008
Dear Diary, Our school has decided to do a jump rope for heart marathon to raise money for the American Heart Association. What a perfect thing for me! I love jumping rope better than anything. I can't wait to get our pledge sheet so I can get started. The actual jumping rope event will be in a couple weeks.
Day 37
September 8, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm pretty tired this morning. Our neighbor was up really late last night banging in his house with a sledge hammer or something. Finally at 10:30, Mom went over there to see what was going on. I guess the guy said he had a water pipe burst under the bathroom floor that he had to fix. It's hard to sleep when you keep hearing that kind of loud noise. It sounded like he was banging on our windows. I just hope he's all done with it, no banging tonight.
Day 36
September 4, 2008
Dear Diary, I feel like my head is spinning. This whole week with school has been such a blur. New teachers, new homework, new classroom. So far so good, but I'm trying to get used to everything. Nicole is in the class right across from mine, so we see each other still. Then we have lunch and recess together. I like my teacher Miss Nichols, but Nicole doesn't like hers.
Day 35
August 30, 2008
Dear Diary, I can't understand it. The White Sox lost the last two games against Boston. We're still winning our division, but we can't keep playing like this or we won't be for long. They play the Red Sox one more time tomorrow. Hopefully we'll get it together and win.
Day 34
August 29, 2008
Dear Diary, Today was the last day I got to help Aunt Sonja with her dog walking. That also means it's the end of me making extra money, at least until winter vacation. I didn't even spend all the money I was allowed to. And now I actually have money saved in my bank account. Mom says that money is for college.
Day 33
August 25, 2008
Dear Diary, Yesterday Mom and I went with Aunt Sonja to the Latin Music fest in Grant Park. It was pretty neat. The dancing was amazing. And you gotta love the beat of the music even if you don't know the words to the songs. We had a really great time together.
Day 32
August 21, 2008
Dear Diary, There is so much to know about animals at the zoo. I think it's really neat that the scientists there are trying to learn how to protect the animals at the zoo and in the wild. We actually got to see a lemur get a sonogram today. They used it to figure out why the lemur was having trouble breathing. Turns out that she has fluid in her lungs. So now the vets will work to get rid of the fluid. Wow!
Day 31
August 18, 2008
Dear Diary, This was my first day of Animal Explorer camp at the zoo! I cannot believe how fast the day went by. We get to learn all kinds of neat things about how to take care of the animals. My favorite thing today was learning about the polar bears. It's amazing how smart they are and how the trainers have taught them how to communicate.
Day 30
August 16, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom said Nicole can come over today, as soon as my room is clean. I think she bribes me like that on purpose. It's like a sneaky way of getting me to clean my room, when she knows I hate cleaning my room. I guess it is getting pretty bad in here. I have piles of clothes all over the floor, and lately I've been having a hard time finding things in my room.
Day 29
August 14, 2008
Dear Diary, My mom tried to trick me today. She said she was sorry to say that I would have to miss dog walking with Aunt Sonja next week. I was disappointed and asked her why. Then she grinned and said I would be too busy at the Animal Explorer camp at the Lincoln Park Zoo next week! Okay, now I'm not so disappointed! I can't wait till next week. It's all week for the entire day. That's going to be so cool!
Day 28
August 9, 2008
Dear Diary, It's so hot outside that Nicole and I were running through the sprinklers at her house to cool off. Then we ate these delicious Italian ice cups her Mom brought home. Our mouths turned bright blue! Then we set up the sprinkler so we could jumprope while the water sprayed us.
Day 27
August 5, 2008
Dear Diary, Last night was a little scarey. We had a really bad storm hit Chicago that was more like a hurricane. It was so windy and I thought the rain would never stop. The thunder kept going and going. Our street flooded and a small tree fell down, but at least our house and everything is okay. Mom called Aunt Sonja to check on her and she's okay too, but her neighbor's car got crushed by a huge tree. Luckily our power came back on. Some people weren't so lucky.
Day 26
August 3, 2008
Dear Diary, When school starts after Labor Day I'm going to miss walking the dogs with Aunt Sonja. She's way fun to hang out with. And I've saved up quite a bit if spending money. But she did say that I can help her over Christmas vacation if I want to. Not sure how much fun it will be walking the dogs in the snow and cold, but maybe.
Day 25
July 28, 2008
Dear Diary, The twins I told you about from next door are very nice. We've been playing outside together. Their names are Holly and Maddie. The only problem is that I have a hard time telling them apart since they're identical twins. So I have to try to remember who was wearing which outfit to keep their names straight in my head.
Day 24
July 26, 2008
Dear Diary, I miss my best friend Nicole. She and her family went away on vacation for two weeks. I think they went to Ohio. Mom says I should go play with the twins next door. They just moved in and I don't really know them very well yet. I think we'll be going to the same school next year. I hate trying to make friends with kids I don't know. I feel so shy and awkward.
Day 23
July 21, 2008
Dear Diary, The funniest thing happened today. I was walking dogs with Aunt Sonja. She had 3 dogs and I had two on leashes. Well, this woman walks by us with this little yappy dog and before you knew it the dogs we were walking got all excited. They were jumping and trying to run around us. Then Aunt Sonja and I were all tangled up with the leashes and all five dogs. It took us a few minutes to get them all straightened out because we were laughing so much. That was pretty funny!
Day 22
July 19, 2008
Dear Diary, Our Chicago White Sox won last night. We beat the Kansas City Royals 9-5. What a great game to go watch. I hate to go when we lose. It's just not as fun. Mom says next time we should ask Aunt Sonja to come with us. I bet she would like that.
Day 21
July 15, 2008
Dear Diary, I can't wait for Friday night to get here. Mom and I are going to a Chicago White Sox game. They play Kansas City. Night games are always more fun, especially when it's not so hot. We're doing pretty good this year so far. We're number one in our division, but the season has a long way to go.
Day 20
July 12, 2008
Dear Diary, I went to thie store this morning to buy a new jump rope since my favorite one broke. Thankfully they still had the green and purple ones. Otherwise, I would have been sad. I'm so happy to have one I can use again. I've really missed jump roping the last few days. I think I'm going to see if Nicole wants to come over and jump rope with me.
Day 19
July 8, 2008
Dear Diary, It's funny. Dogwalking with my Aunt Sonja is a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it's exhausting. But I get to see Aunt Sonja and play with all these adorable pooches. The only bad part is the cleanup. Aunt Sonja's rule is I have to cleanup after whichever dogs I walk.
Day 18
July 7, 2008
Dear Diary, My favorite green and purple jump rope is broken. The handle on it broke off. Now I guess I know where the money I get from dogwalking this week will be going. At least part of the money I'm allowed to spend. Mom sounds like she's really going to be a stickler about this saving thing. Anyways, I hope the store has more green and purple jump ropes since those are my favorite colors.
Day 17
July 4, 2008
Dear Diary, We went to the Taste of Chicago festival yesterday, and even stayed to watch the fireworks. They had some fun stuff to do, like face painting and origami. The music part was okay, some big orchestra. Mom really liked the music. Not really my style though. But we did have fun just being together.
Day 16
July 2, 2008
Dear Diary, Zippy must be nervous or something. He has been shedding feathers all over his cage the last couple days. Then they get all over the rest of the house. I looked it up on the internet. It could be that he either needs new kind of food, or he's stressed. I didn't know that birds could be stressed!
Day 15
June 30, 2008
Dear Diary, We went to the bank today. Which is usually no big deal, except this time I got to open my very own bank account! Mom said now that I'm working for Aunt Sonja I need my own account. That way I'll have a place to save some of my money. That's kind of neat. I'm not sure many kids my age have a bank account. No ATM card though!
Day 14
June 25, 2008
Dear Diary, I was so tired after helping Aunt Sonja with her dog walking yesterday. We took care of a couple big dogs like a golden retriever and a great dane. Aunt Sonja had to walk the great dane. He was almost as big as me! I think I liked walking the little dogs better. There was a cute little yorkie named Bailey and even a pomeranian. The little dogs don't walk very far though, and they're much easier to clean up after!
Day 13
June 24, 2008
Dear Diary, Alright, alright. I agreed to Mom's deal that I have to save half of my money. Today is my first day working for Aunt Sonja. She should be here any minute to pick me up. I wonder what kind of dogs we're walking today? Hopefully they won't lick me. I'm really not into dog slobber. Yuck!
Day 12
June 21, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom and I just had an argument. Mom says since I'm going to be getting $30 a week for helping Aunt Sonja, that I have to save. She says half of the money each week goes into my savings account. That's $15!!! I say since it's my money that I earn, that I should be able to spend it if I want to. No deal. If I won't save half of it, then I'm not allowed to help Aunt Sonja. Mom thinks I should start saving for college.
Day 11
June 19, 2008
Dear Diary, Good news! Mom says I can help Aunt Sonja with her dog walking. I just hope I don't have to clean up too much dog "stuff". That would be kind of gross. But it should be fun hanging out with Aunt Sonja. Sometimes she seems like an older sister to me. It's hard to believe she's actually my mom's sister. Aunt Sonja is way cooler than my mom.
Day 10
June 17, 2008
Dear Diary, I may have a job for the summer! Well, sort of. My Aunt Sonja has a dog walking business. She goes from one person's house to the next feeding and cleaning up after the dogs. Then she walks them while the owners are at work. My Aunt says if I help her 2 days a week, she'll pay me $15 a day! I think that sounds pretty good. We'll see if my mom says yes. I hope so!
Day 9
June 14, 2008
Dear Diary, My mom has to work a lot. I know it's hard for her taking care of both of us, now that my parents' have separated. But sometimes I wish she didn't have to work. I wish we could just hang out every day. She says she's going to take off a couple weeks this summer. Then we will have more time to hang out together.
Day 8
June 11, 2008
Dear Diary, Nicole's dad is taking us to the Lincoln Park Zoo today. We go there a lot since it's free. My favorite part is always the paddle boat ride that takes you around the lagoon. Hopefully it won't be too hot when we go. It always gets so hot here in the summer.
Day 7
June 7, 2008
Dear Diary, I have a bird named Zippy. I had asked for a puppy, but my dad gave me a bird instead. At first I was disappointed, but now I love Zippy. She is very sweet and chirps when she gets excited. I can't play catch with her, but she can sit perched on my finger and eat a cracker from my hand.
Day 6
June 4, 2008
Dear Diary, So glad I found my journal! I had lost it when Mom painted my room. She had boxed up all my stuff, and I didn't know where it was. I'll try to keep it in a safe spot from now on. Not much else has been going on lately. Just waiting a couple more weeks for the school year to end.
Day 5
April 23, 2008
Dear Diary, I got a big surprise when I came home from daddy's today. Mom started painting my room! I have been begging her for so long and am so excited. It is going to be light purple with maybe some blue stripes. I am going to love my room.
Day 4
April 20, 2008
Dear Diary, I am going to spend the weekend with my daddy. I hope we get to go see that new movie, Nim's Island. I can't wait, and maybe we will even get to go Brick's for pizza. Whatever we do I know it will be fun.
Day 3
April 17, 2008
Dear Diary, It has been snowing just a little for 2 days. We couldn't even have our jumping contest because it was just too wet and cold outside, but my mom let us make cookies instead so it was fun.
Day 2
April 14, 2008
Dear Diary, Yeah! There is no school tomorrow so Nicole's mom said she could come over and play with me and the twins next door. We are going to have a jump rope contest and see who can jump the most times in a row. I have been practicing so I think I will win!
Day 1
April 10, 2008
Dear Diary, Nicole, my best friend from school gave me this diary for my birthday. I just love it and am going to write in it all the time. It is too cold to play outside so now I have something else to do inside!
