Emily's Diary
Day 72
November 17, 2008
Dear Diary, You know, I hardly ever get sick, but with my competition in 5 days, I'm a little worried. My brother Evan is really sick and I'm afraid I'm going to get it too, and end up being sick for my dance competition. Mom keeps telling him to blow his nose and wash his hands. Boys can be so gross about not using tissues and rubbing their nose on their arms. I remember one of my teachers a long time ago showing us how germs spread around. She had us all put flour on our hands and then go around and touch everything like the desks, the doorknobs, and chairs.
Day 71
November 13, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom just announced to us that we're going camping for a few days over winter break. I have no idea what she's thinking. Mom doesn't know the first thing about camping. Not that I know anything about camping, since I've never been before, but this wasn't my idea. I love my mom, but she's not really someone I would say can rough it. You know, not having her blow dryer, no fancy restaurants, no bathtubs. I'll give it a chance though, it just might be entertaining!
Day 70
November 10, 2008
Dear Diary, I hate when embarassing things happen! I was walking down the hallway in school today and didn't even notice the long piece of toilet paper stuck to the bottom of my shoe. Nicole was actually the one who saw it and told me, and even she was giggling. Now everyone knew I had just been in the bathroom. I could feel my face turn red and everything. Uggh!
Day 69
November 8, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm exhausted. I went to the dance studio almost everyday this week. I love it, but we've been practicing for our competition that's in 2 weeks. So today I'm not doing anything. I'm not dancing, I'm not doing homework...I'm just chilling out at home. Mom said that sounded like a good idea, and we're going to have a family movie marathon in a little while. Sounds good to me!
Day 68
November 4, 2008
Dear Diary, I cannot get used to this time change yet. It's dark so much earlier now, and I'm still waking up way before my alarm goes off in the morning. Hopefully I'll get used to it soon. I'm still not sure why we even have daylight savings anymore. Isn't that from back when everyone had farms?
Day 67
November 1, 2008
Dear Diary, Halloween went by so fast, but we had a blast! All the little kids looked so adorable in their costumes, especially the little baby girl next door dressed like a cheerleader. Tonight we're staying over at my dad's place because Mom and Aunt Jessie are going to some boy band concert. It's no band I remember, but I guess it was popular when they were teenagers. Better go pack-
Day 66
October 30, 2008
Dear Diary, This week has gone by so fast, and tomorrow is my big slumber party for Halloween. I think it will be fun handing out candy to all the little kids that come by our house. We're going to play music and hang out on the driveway. Then Mom got a spooky movie for us to watch. I wish tomorrow would hurry up and get here!
Day 65
October 26, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm not really a big fan of baseball, but its been kind of fun watching the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series. I didn't get to see the whole game, but the Rays lost last night. It's not looking good for them right now. If they don't win the next game, then it's all over. Time to go get some homework done.
Day 64
October 22, 2008
Dear Diary, I've been having a hard time learning this new jazz routine for dance. Usually it comes pretty easily to me. Don't get me wrong, I still have to practice, but then I can usually do it. All these fan kicks, twists, and barrel turns have my head spinnning! I guess I'll just have to keep practicing.
Day 63
October 21, 2008
Dear Diary, Florida weather is so weird. One day it's hot as can be, and then for a couple days it'll be almost cold outside. Then of course it gets hot again. I wish the weather would just make up its mind! I'm actually looking forward to it get colder. I have a new super cute jacket I want to wear.
Day 62
October 17, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm kind of sad that I'm not going to go trick or treating this year. Mom says I'm getting too old for that. But, she is going to let me have a slumber party since Halloween is on a Friday. That is actually better than trick or treating! So far Nicole, Danielle, and Marley are coming. Hopefully more of my friends can come too.
Day 61
October 15, 2008
Dear Diary, Dance, dance, dance! That's what I've been doing lately. Our next competition is in November, so I'm trying to get intio the studio as much as I can. Thankfully, my ankle isn't bothering me. I was a little worried at first, but so far so good. Not much else going on right now. Mom is starting to plan our trip to see the fall leaves in a couple weeks. Yeah!
Day 60
October 11, 2008
Dear Diary, We hung a big tire swing from a big tree in our yard. I think it was really meant for Ethan and Evan, but I've been riding on it too. It's kind of fun. I like pushing my brothers on it as high as they can go. They get a big kick out of that. It takes both of them to push me though!
Day 59
October 8, 2008
Dear Diary, My brothers are being difficult right now. I really want to watch a show on tv, but they won't let me. I know we have to take turns and all, but really. Mom said if she has to work it out then the t.v. goes off and nobody gets to watch anything. That's no good either. They're watching some "Clone Wars" cartoon. I guess I'll just have to wait. Waiting stinks.
Day 58
October 6, 2008
Dear Diary, We finally got to go out on Dad's boat this weekend. The weather was beautiful, and it wasn't even that hot. He has this big float that ties to the back of the boat with a rope that we ride on. My brothers and I love it! And when somebody wipes out it's pretty hilarious.
Day 57
October 2, 2008
Dear Diary, Aunt Jess came over tonight and we decided to go swimming. Ohmigosh was it freezing! After a while our lips were turning blue! We still had fun, but we didn't stay in for very long. I think that was probably my last time in the pool until next summer. I love to swim, but not like that. Now, my brothers will probably keep swimming until Mom tells them it's too cold. Boys don't care.
Day 56
September 29, 2008
Dear Diary, Since we don't have any dance competitions for a couple months, it's kind of relaxing going to the studio. We still work hard, but there's not as much pressure I guess. At least for me there's not. Danielle's mom is still snipping at her about how she practices in class, and that she's not putting in enough effort. I feel really bad for her. If my mom treated me like that, I don't think I'd want to dance anymore.
Day 55
September 27, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom and I are finally starting to walk CoCo at night more, now that the weather is a tiny bit cooler after dinner. It's kind of nice. Usually my brothers ride their bikes ahead of us. If they ride too close to us, then CoCo goes crazy barking at them because she can't catch them. My dog is too funny!
Day 54
September 23, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom has been nagging me since I got home about my room being such a mess. It's not that I like it messy, I just haven't had the time between school and dancing. It's not so bad, all you have to do is close the door and you can't even see the mess. Maybe I better do it before dinner, then she'll stop bothering me about it.
Day 53
September 21, 2008
Dear Diary, Tomorrow is officially the first day of fall. I'm hoping that means the weather will finally start cooling off at least a little bit. The only bad part is that the leaves don't change colors to all the pretty reds and yellows like they do up north. Here in Florida the leaves just turn brown and fall off. Our family up north usually emails us pictures of the pretty leaves changing colors. Mom says maybe we drive up over a long weekend in October to see them for ourselves.
Day 52
September 16, 2008
Dear Diary, CoCo has been following me around all afternoon just begging to go outside. Mom and I like to take her on walks together. The only problem is that it's still so incredibly hot outside. I feel like I'm going to melt before we get down the driveway. Maybe if I wait until after dinner it won't be so bad with the sun down a little. I think I better go play with CoCo now though, she's chewing at the socks on my feet!
Day 51
September 15, 2008
Dear Diary, No boating again this weekend. The surf was pretty rough from that hurricane going by on its way to Texas. So instead we play Scrabble and went swimming. I haven't played Scrabble in a long time. I forgot how much fun it was! Time to head over to the dance studio-
Day 50
September 12, 2008
Dear Diary, This weekend we're over at my dad's place. He said we can try going out on the boat again. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I can't help it. I know in a few more months it will be too cold to do much boating. I think I'll bring my rollerblades just in case though.
Day 49
September 8, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm sitting here trying to think of what to write about and I can't even hear myself think. There is this loud buzzing noise outside. It's cicadas. They're these really big insects that are everywhere in Florida, but you especially notice them in the summer. That's when I hear them buzzing the most. Even with the windows closed you can't help but hear them. In science class we learned that they have these noisemakers on the sides of their abdomen that they vibrate to make the loud clicking sound.
Day 48
September 6, 2008
Dear Diary, Aunt Jess is coming over tonight for dinner. Aunt Jess says she hates to cook and so she always loves eating with us. She says it's the only time she gets a homemade meal. I like eating out, but not all the time. Not very healthy for a dancer. I wonder what we're having tonight. Something smells good, whatever it is. My mouth is starting to water.
Day 47
September 4, 2008
Dear Diary, The girl who lives next door is moving away and so her mom is trying to get rid of a lot of stuff. She just brought over a huge box of dolls and outfits for them. I've been collecting dolls since I could walk from what Mom says. I just love changing their outfits and making them look cute. I already started going through the box and there are even matching shoes for the dolls.
Day 46
August 31, 2008
Dear Diary, Boating this weekend is a total bust. The weather today is even windier than it was yesterday. It's great for running around outside or flying a kite, but bad for boating. The advisories say the water is too rough. So, I think I'm going to go outside and rollerblade. It doesn't even feel that hot out there right now with the breeze blowing.
Day 45
August 30, 2008
Dear Diary, So much for going out on the boat today. It's been raining and cloudy all day. Even though the hurricane is not coming our way, it still seems to be affecting our weather. Dad says we'll see what tomorrow's weather looks like. So the boys are all in the den watching football. Boring! I'm thinking I'll do a little stretching and work on my flexibility.
Day 44
August 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Tomorrow after school, my two brothers and I will go over to my dad's house for the weekend. We're lucky he lives close enough that we can still see him a lot. I'm just dreading that I know I'll already have to bring homework with me. Hopefully the weather will be nice and we can go out on the boat.
Day 43
August 25, 2008
Dear Diary, One week of school down already. So now it's school, dance, school, dance. And since the summer dance competitions are over I'll be back to regular studio classes and dance team practices. Busy, busy, busy. Thank goodness my ankle healed well over the summer. I'm hoping I won't have any more problems with it.
Day 42
August 20, 2008
Dear Diary, The first day of school ended up being cancelled yesterday since tropical storm Fay was on it's way. Then of course it turned at the last second and hit way south of us instead. It's kind of strange that school was cancelled and the weather is actually not too bad now. It's pretty windy, but it hasn't even hardly rained here yet! I guess that's the way it goes with tropical storms and hurricanes. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. My bus should be here any minute now that today we're actually starting school.
Day 41
August 18, 2008
Dear Diary, Okay now I'm not sure what to think. School is supposed to start tomorrow, but there is a tropical storm possibly heading towards Florida. If that happens they may have to cancel school. I've never heard of school get cancelled before it even starts! And who is Fay? That's a strange name for a storm. Mom says we'll just have to watch the news and see what happens. In the mean time we stocked up our hurricane kit just in case. I don't know what we'll do with all these gallons of water and cans of ravioli if we don't end up needing them.
Day 40
August 17, 2008
Dear Diary, Last night my mom let me stay up pretty late so I could watch the Olympics. I wanted to see if Michael Phelps could win his eighth gold medal and break the record. It was amazing to watch him actually do it. My brother Ethan and I watched it together and were cheering him on. I love watching the Olympics!
Day 39
August 10, 2008
Dear Diary, Most of our trip to Orlando was pretty cool. I could have done without the hours we spent at Lego Land, but my little brother really loved it. My favorite part was swimming at the hotel. They had these huge waterfall-like fountains spraying into the pool. And the pool was ginormous! You could barely see all the way around it since it had all these curves and bends. The other fun thing was of course the outlet mall shopping. I got some pretty cool new school clothes.
Day 38
August 7, 2008
Dear Diary, We leave early tomorrow for Orlando. I wish we could bring Coco with us too. But she's going to stay at the vet while we're gone. Hopefully she won't miss us too much. I haven't even started packing yet. We'll probably be in the pool most of the time anyway.
Day 37
August 4, 2008
Dear Diary, I love dancing, but right now I feel kind of relieved that the competition is over. I need a break and so does my ankle. In a few days my dad is taking us to Orlando. Usually we go to Disney World, but this time we're going to some new waterpark they have there. And of course I always love to go shopping at the outlets malls!
Day 36
July 31, 2008
Dear Diary, We did it! We came in first place in the regional dance-off! Thankfully it's over because I think my ankle was getting worse. Mom says I made need to go see a doctor. She has me alternating keeping ice and a heating pad on it. If it doesn't feel better in a couple days then I'll have to go. It hurts, but I'm so happy that all our hard work paid off. The other teams were really good this year, so we had to work that much harder.
Day 35
July 27, 2008
Dear Diary, Whew! Our dance team made the cut. That means one more week of competition to find the winner of the finals. My ankle has been bothering me a little. I'm hoping it will be okay after resting over the weekend. I guess we'll find out tomorrow. I'm so glad that my mom is coming to watch us dance this week. It makes me happy to see her so proud of how good we're doing.
Day 34
July 24, 2008
Dear Diary, I feel bad I haven't written in a while, but this week has been crazy. Competition is pretty much all day. Then by the time I get home and eat dinner I just want to crawl into my bed. I ache in muscles I didn't even know I had. It will all be worth it though. Tomorrow is the first day of elimination. I think our dance team will still be in next week since we've been doing so well.
Day33
July 19, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, this is it. Starting Monday we'll begin two weeks of dance competition. I'm starting to get a little nervous, but we've been practicing really hard so hopefully we'll place. The funny thing is that I wish we could dance in our warmups. I'm so much more comfortable in warmups instead of a costume. Oh well, that's not going to happen.
Day 32
July 15, 2008
Dear Diary, We're about to go to the barber shop so my brothers can get their hair cut. No way am I getting my hair cut at a barber shop. I go to my mom's stylist. But I don't mind going with my brothers to get theirs cut because they have a pool table right in the middle of the place that you can play while you wait.
Day 31
July 12, 2008
Dear Diary, I'm hoping it's not going to rain later today, even though it's very cloudy outside right now. We're supposed to go to a bbq party at my mom's friend's house. It's a big family party, and they have a pool. But if it's yucky outside that won't be very much fun. It always rains when it's not supposed to in Florida.
Day 30
July 8, 2008
Dear Diary, I know school is out, but I still have a lot to do with our dance competitions starting next week. So I practice a lot in my room, even when I'm not at the studio. And I'm always practicing my stretching. But my brothers are driving me insane. They keep coming into my room without even knocking. I heard Evan ask my mom "When does school start?" So I know he's bored. Just because they're bored, does that mean they have to pester me?
Day 29
July 7, 2008
Dear Diary, Nicole came over today to go swimming. Even though it's July, our pool is still cold, but we went anyway. My little brother has these pirate rings that sit on the bottom of the pool that you're supposed to swim through. Well, Nicole and I were actually having fun with them too. We were seeing how many times we could swim back and forth through them without coming up for air. Sounds silly, but it was funny.
Day 28
July 4, 2008
Dear Diary, I hope it doesn't rain tonight. In Florida, you never know. It rains almost every day in the summer. And I don't want to miss the fireworks. We always go to the same place on the beach and watch them. And then we get sundaes to eat. My little brother Evan is so excited to play with his sparklers.
Day 27
July 2, 2008
Dear Diary, There's this girl in dance named Danielle. I feel really bad for her sometimes. Her mom is always there when we practice, and she talks so mean to Danielle. No matter how hard Danielle seems to try, her mom still complains that Danielle's arms aren't straight enough. Or her facial expressions are all wrong. I'm just so thankful that my mom wants me to do well in dance, but she wants me to have fun too. She doesn't push me like Danielle's mom does.
Day 26
June 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Mom's home! She was only gone for a few days, but I'm so glad she's home. Her flight was delayed so she didn't get home until after dinner, but at least she's here. I didn't tell her yet, but my report card came in the mail today. It's pretty good I guess. Okay, maybe the 'C' in social studies isn't so good, but the rest is good. I'll show her tomorrow.
Day 25
June 26, 2008
Dear Diary, My mom had to go out of town for work this week. That means my Aunt Jess is here to take care of us. She's pretty cool. She likes to eat out a lot, so we get take-out every night. She's fun to talk to though. She really listens when I tell her about school, or dance , or whatever's on my mind. I still miss my mom though. I can't wait to see her this weekend.
Day 24
June 23, 2008
Dear Diary, Nicole and I decided to give our dogs a bath together today. Coco was getting kind of smelly. I hate smelly dogs. Anyways, it was kind of funny actually. Both the dogs were running around and rolling in the grass with soap all over them. They just didn't want to stand still to get rinsed off. So Nicole and I were chasing them around the yard with the garden hose. She and I laughed so hard my tummy started to hurt!
Day 23
June 20, 2008
Dear Diary, Yesterday we had a really bad thunderstorm. It was so windy that our windchime blew off the tree and went across the yard! And a lot of our neighbor's trees had big branches that fell down. I hate when it rains when I want to be outside. But I really do like the sound of thunderstorms. And when it's nice and dark like that I just want to cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie.
Day 22
June 18, 2008
Dear Diary, One good thing about the summer is I'm not as busy. I still have dance, but I go to the studio during the day instead of at night since there's no school. Then I have time to hang out with my friends. Nicole and I are going to go roller blading this afternoon. It's a lot of fun to go on the trail. Her mom rides her bike while we skate.
Day 21
June 14, 2008
Dear Diary, Help me please! My sunburn has faded, but now it looks even worse. I look like a lizard that is shedding it's skin. How embarassing! Thankfully I don't have any dance competitions for a few more weeks. My brothers just look at me and laugh. And now they're calling me Lizard Lady.
Day 20
June 11, 2008
Dear Diary, My dad took us out his boat this morning. We went over to Caladesi Island. It was pretty cool. I even ran into some kids from my school. The only bad part was getting sunburned. My mom was not happy about that. I swear I put lotion on. I guess just not enough. So I've been rubbing aloe all over my face, arms and legs. Hopefully it will help. I don't want my skin to peel.
Day 19
June 7, 2008
Dear Diary, This week has been so hectic. First was my brother Evan's graduation from preschool. He looked so cute in his cap with a tassle. Then it was Evan's birthday too. It was fun watching him and his friends play in the bounce house. I even bounced around a little myself.
Day 18
June 4, 2008
Dear Diary, Today was our last day of school! It was fun having the class parties, but I'll miss some of my teachers and seeing my friends. Mom says next school year will be here before I know it. Between dance classes and competitions, I know she's right. But for now, I want to have fun hanging out with my family and Morgann. As long as her cousin isn't around!
Day 17
June 2, 2008
Dear Diary, Last weekend I went to a pool party at Morgann's house. It was alright I guess. But the whole time I was there, Morgann's cousin kept trying to keep Morgann away from me. It was so annoying. She was always right there, trying to keep me from talking to Morgann. And then the cousin wouldn't let me be included in games like marco polo. I didn't say anything, but I think Morgann knew it was bothering me though.
Day 16
May 31, 2008
Dear Diary, Coco loves to go for walks around our neighborhood or at the park, but it's so hot outside. When we get home, she just lays on the cool tile and pants for the next hour. She's so cute with her tongue sticking out like that. She's sitting right next to my bed waiting for me. I think she knows we're going for a walk since she has her leash in her mouth! I think maybe I'll take her around the block a couple times.
Day 15
May 30, 2008
Dear Diary, I am so excited that the next week of school is our last before summer vacation! And actually it's not even a whole week, just two days. My teacher says we'll be doing fun classwork, whatever that means. Once school's out, Morgann and I can have fun swimming and dancing and all kinds of things. I love to go swimming at the recreation center because they have really cool water slides and diving boards.
Day 14
May 28, 2008
Dear Diary, I am so beat. I didn't get home from the dance studio last night until 8:30. Then I still had to take my shower and get my stuff ready for school. I study tap, jazz, and ballet. That means I'm at the studio a lot. And this year I made the dance team. It's a lot of fun, but there are a lot of competitions coming up that I have to get ready for.
Day 13
May 26, 2008
Dear Diary,Yesterday I went to the beach with a bunch of my friends and we had such a great time. The most hilarious thing happend. My friend, Rachel had a bag of cheetos and one cheeto fell on the sand next to her foot. Well, a huge flock of seagulls attacked her for the cheeto. She was screaming and freaking out and running all over the place. I don't blame her; those seagulls are vicious and dangerous. Everybody here knows not to feed them, but sometimes things happen like the cheeto thing. Usually, it's the tourists who don't know about them and try to feed one little bird. And, then, WHAM before you know it, you are in a swarm of gross birds!
Day 12
May 23, 2008
Dear Diary, I love my brothers, but sometimes it's hard being the only girl. Like when I want to talk on the phone to my friends, and they make pig noises in the background. Or they forget to put the seat down in the bathroom, yuck! I'm so glad I'm a girl. And thank goodness my mom is too!
Day 11
May 20, 2008
Dear Diary, If I hear my mom tell me to clean up my room one more time, I am going to scream! She has ben nagging me for like 3 days nonstop. I like my room exactly as it is. Everything has a place and everything is in its place (on the floor!!).
Day 10
May 14, 2008
Dear Diary, Usually on Wednesdays I don't ever have any free time, but today I don't have any homework which is a miracle! I am going to play with my friend today. Maybe we can ride bikes or something. It is getting really hot now, but I guess it's okay.
Day 9
May 11, 2008
Dear Diary, Today is Mother's Day. My brothers and I are going to make mom breakfast in bed. I think we are going to go to the beach. My mom loves the beach, but doesn't get many chances to go, because she is so busy. I am going to try and keep my little brother happy so she doesn't have too much stress.
Day 8
May 8, 2008
Dear Diary, I am still stressing about school, but I am starting to get things under control. My mom always tries to help me organize my schedul so I can squeeze everything in. I hate staying up too late doing homework; it just makes me grumpy in the morning!
Day 7
May 4, 2008
Dear Diary, I have been so busy lately that I just haven't had any time for my diary! The teachers are really piling on the homework now. It's like they don't want us to start thinking about summer yet. I had so many projects to do! And, we are getting ready for recital soon, so my dance schedule has become a little more intense too.
Day 6
April 10, 2008
Dear Diary, my dad took us to see the movie Horton Hears a Who. I guess we mainly went because of my 4 year old brother, but I really liked that movie!! It was so funny. After the movie, we got to go for ice cream. I just love vanilla ice cream with sprinkles! My brother, Ethan, likes chocolate stuff, and my other brother, Evan, likes chocolate and vanilla mixed together. Isn’t that funny?!
Day 5
April 7, 2008
Dear Diary, the rain has stopped and we are finally allowed to go outside. I played with my best friend, Nicole, who lives down the street. She has a dog named Mistyy and we took the dogs for a walk. My dog, Coco, is still just a puppy so she doesn’t walk that well on her leash yet, but she tries. It is so funny to watch her because if she sees the leash, she chomps on it…silly pup!
Day 4
March 25, 2008
Dear Diary, You won’t believe this, but it is raining again!!! Boring! My mom pulled out a new puzzle for us to work on, and she even had some brand new play-doh for my little brother. He was so happy to get a fresh batch of play-doh because he always mixes the colors together and then all his play-doh is just brown.
Day 3
March 22, 2008
Dear Diary, The rain won’t quit. The streets are flooded, nobody is outside, it is really gloomy. And worse yet, my mom is making me play with my little brother. I guess I will help him make a new train track design. After that, I am going to practice my dances and do some stretching.
Day 2
March 21, 2008
Dear Diary:
Guess what? Today was sunny! I got to play outside! Hooray! I went rollerskating down a big hill in my neighborhood. It was so much FUN! It was a little scary, but after I did it a couple times, it wasn’t scary anymore.
Day 1
March 18, 2008
Dear Diary, Today was a very boring day because it was raining all day and I never even got to go outside to play. And, my two little brothers were annoying me to death!
