Keira's Diary
Day 71
November 17, 2008
Dear Diary, Mrs. Blake was back today, she said her appointment went fine, no big deal. She's the nicest lady to my sister and me. Lots of times I call her Grandma Blake, or just Grandma, instead of Mrs. Blake. I think she likes that.
Day 70
November 14, 2008
Dear Diary, Daddy had to come home early from work today. Mrs. Blake had some doctor's appointment to go to. Something about her diabetes. Yes, even though Mrs. Blake makes the best cookies, she doesn't even hardly touch them, they're for Maya and me. I guess people with diabetes have to be careful about their sugar levels or they can get sick.
Day 69
November 12, 2008
Dear Diary, April is too funny sometimes! She was trying to show off on her new bike and she crashed right into her mom's car parked in the driveway. I was laughing so hard my eyes were watering. Of course I made sure she was okay first, then I laughed! Even she was laughing. I'm so glad she's my best friend.
Day 68
November 8, 2008
Dear Diary, I kept putting off telling my dad about my science test grade. I don't know why, it's not like avoiding it made it go away or anything. And a 'C' isn't good, but it's not terrible. So I finally told him and he said, "I know you can do better." That's it. No long lecture, no nagging. That almost made it worse, because I know he's right!
Day 67
November 5, 2008
Dear Diary, I got a 'C'! That's not great, but it's not so bad considering I forgot to study. My teacher said she was a little disappointed, but that if I do better on the next test it shouldn't hurt my grade. Now I just have to remember to tell Dad that part when I tell him my test score.
Day 66
November 4, 2008
Dear Diary, I had planned on studying for my science test, really I did. But then I found this bird nest outside in the grass that must have blown down during the storm we had last night. I forgot all about my test and was busy looking all around for what happened to the eggs. I never found them. Maybe the nest was old or hadn't even been used yet. Anyways, my test was today, and I don't feel very good about how I did. Maybe I guessed really good!
Day 65
October 31, 2008
Dear Diary, HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I'm not sure why we had to have school today, it is a holiday, isn't it? Oh well, we mostly did fun stuff in school today anyway. In Language we read scarey stories. In math class we did fractions with candy bars. And in science, our teacher did these cool experiments with the class that made things smoke and bubble and all kinds of cool stuff. Better go, Maya wants help with her costume.
Day 64
October 26, 2008
Dear Diary, Tiger somehow got out of the house yesterday. We think Maya may have accidentally let him out. I kept wondering where he was, then before dinner we heard him meowing at the back patio door. He was all shaking and upset. I don't think Tiger has every really been outside before. He doesn't even have his claws to help him climb trees or anything. I wonder what kind of adventure Tiger went on. KNowing him, he probably just curled up under the bushes and went to sleep!
Day 63
October 23, 2008
Dear Diary, It's kind of embarassing, but I have this bump on my chin, and I think it's a pimple. I've never had one before, but it hurts. I thought about calling April to ask her what to do about it, but that seemed strange. I guess I'll ask my dad. Hopefully it won't get any bigger!
Day 62
October 20, 2008
Dear Diary, Dad is going out tonight with one of his buddies to eat wings and watch Monday Night Football. I hope he'll bring me home some hot wings! Mrs. Blake said she would stay with Maya and me for tonight. I love when we get to stay with Mrs. Blake. She doesn't let you run wild or anything, but she really is a lot of fun. We play games and make cookies and other cool stuff.
Day 61
October 18, 2008
Dear Diary, April and I went swimming at her house today. Boy was that water cold! I didn't even know it would be that cold, and then I jumped in. That was a surprise! That's weird how it can be so warm outside, but the water is already cold.
Day 60
October 13, 2008
Dear Diary, We had a really hard homework assignment to do this weekend. We had to write a paper about why Christopher Columbus was important in history. That was really hard! I wrote about how he wasn't trying to find new land, he was actually trying to find a new route to Asia when he found America. Hopefully my teacher will like what I wrote.
Day 59
October 9, 2008
Dear Diary, My dad wasn't even mad at me for making such a big mess. He just looked at me and smiled. Then we finished making the waffles together. We even put chocolate chips in them. Those were the best ones.
Day 58
October 8, 2008
Dear Diary, This morning I woke up before anybody else. I thought it would be a nice surprise to make breakfast for Dad and Maya. I decided it would be easy to make waffles, so I made the batter and got the waffle iron ready. I wanted to see how big of a waffle I could make. Well, I must have put too much batter and it made a huge mess! Tiger ended up licking the batter that spilled onto the floor. Can you tell I've never made waffles by myself before?
Day 57
October 4, 2008
Dear Diary, April is going out of town this weekend and I'm going to miss her! We always see each other on the weekends. She promised me that next weekend we can have a sleepover. I hope so! So I don't really think anything exciting is going on this weekend, just being at home with my family. Oh well.
Day 56
October 2, 2008
Dear Diary, After I finished my classwork today, my language arts teacher let me go to the library. I was allowed to stay the rest of the period, which was fine by me. Sometimes I know exactly what book I'm looking for. But other times I want to just look around. I finished my Judy Blume book and need something else to read now.
Day 55
September 29, 2008
Dear Diary, I feel really bad about the way I talked to my dad tonight. I guess I'm just tired or something, but I was really annoyed when he kept asking me about my homework. I told him it was done, but then he kept asking me about it, like I didn't answer him already. So I said "Hellloooo? Didn't you hear me?" And I said it in a not very nice tone. I could tell by the look on his face that he wasn't happy with me, and then he sent me to my room. I hate apologizing because it's always so hard, but I probably need to.
Day 54
September 25, 2008
Dear Diary, When I came home from school, Mrs. Blake had chocolate chip cookies waiting for me! Yummy! I guess she and Maya had baked them while I was at school. I hope I didn't eat too many, my tummy feels awfully full. April is coming over in a little bit, so I better get going on my homework. We're going to hang out in my room and listen to music.
Day 53
September 24, 2008
Dear Diary, For some strange reason I could not remember my locker combination this morning. I remembered exactly where my locker was, but my mind went totally blank when I started turning the dial on the combination lock. I ended up going to my next class without my books. The teacher let me borrow a book for today, but reminded me I need to come to class prepared. Later in the day I finally remembered the combination for my locker. I don't know where my brain went!
Day 52
September 21, 2008
Dear Diary, On the way home from the library today we stopped by the store. I cannot believe that they already have everything decorated for Halloween! It's not even October yet. I'm to old for dressing up anymore, but it'll be fun taking Maya around trick-or-treating. Hopefully she'll share her candy with me! She's going to be a fairy for Halloween.
Day 51
September 19, 2008
Dear Diary, Tiger accidentally scratched Maya on her shin. I think she startled him when she walked up behind him and started squealing. Tiger jumped up scared to death, and when cats do that their claws automatically come out. He must have scratched her as he was running by. Maya is okay, but I explained to her that it's not a good idea to sneak up on animals, even friendly ones like Tiger.
Day 50
September 15, 2008
Dear Diary, My Dad doesn't understand why I can't just renew my books online instead of going to the library. I can't explain it. I just love walking up and down the aisles of books. Sometimes I pick a book just because of the way the cover or binding look. You can't see that on the library website. "Alright", he tells me, "we'll go to the library."
Day 49
September 12, 2008
Dear Diary, When I go to school and Dad goes to work, Maya stays with Mrs. Blake. She's this really nice older lady that is almost like a grandmother to us. She takes good care of Maya since Maya won't be old enough for school for a couple more years. And when I come home from school, Mrs. Blake gives me a big hug and asks me about my day at school. I like that.
Day 48
September 9, 2008
Dear Diary, I felt so bad for April today. We were walking home from school, and she tripped and fell on the sidewalk. She got a hole in her brand new capri pants and then her knee was bleeding. I helped her carry her backpack the rest of the way. That seemed to make her feel a little better. April says she's always tripping over things.
Day 47
September 5, 2008
Dear Diary, Would you believe that I got lost at school today? Or should I say I lost my classroom. I went down a different wing for math and then got all turned around. Then of course the bell rang and I was late to class. So I started racing all around and finally the vice principal found me and showed me where it was.
Day 46
September 3, 2008
Dear Diary, I keep forgetting that today is already Wednesday since we had the holiday off on Monday. That means the week is already more than half over. That was fast! April is coming over in a little bit. We both have the same social studies teacher and we have our first project. Our projects aren't going to be the same or anything. We just thought it might be fun to work on them at the same time so we can hang out too.
Day 45
August 31, 2008
Dear Diary, Thankfully we don't have to worry too much about the hurricane since we don't live right on the coast. We'll probably still have a lot of rain. And you always have to watch for tornado warnings during a bad storm. Now news that they're going to be closing school or anything yet. I hope not, I hate missing school.
Day 44
August 30, 2008
Dear Diary, My stomach is rumbling. Ever since I was a little girl, I have had a big bowl of cereal right before bed. Not sure how it got started, but it's definitely a habit. Now Maya has started asking for a bowl before bed too. She thinks it makes her a big girl to do the same thing as me. It's really sweet actually. Well, time to snack!
Day 43
August 25, 2008
Dear Diary, Well, I like all my teachers so far. And some kids I remember from last year. Thankfully April is in my homeroom. At least I get to see her for part of the day. And our teachers let you sit with other classes for lunch if you want. The only bad thing today was that my brand new backpack broke. Of course I didn't realize the zipper on it was broken, until someone tapped me on the shoulder and showed me my books and papers all in a trail behind me. Oh well, things happen.
Day 42
August 23, 2008
Dear Diary, Dad took us to the rec center today so we could swim. My friend April came with us too. They have this huge water area with slides and spray cannons and everything. Of course Maya went on the toddler slide in the shallow area. Since April and I are bigger and better swimmers, we used the really big slide in the deep end. It was a lot of fun!
Day 41
August 19, 2008
Dear Diary, Shopping went pretty good yesterday, but I couldn't believe how crowded the stores were. It felt like we were shopping at Christmas time. We did find some cool shirt and shorts sets. Maya and I both got new shoes for school too. I can't wait to show April my new outfits when she comes over tomorrow.
Day 40
August 18, 2008
Dear Diary, Dad wants to take me shopping for school clothes and supplies today. It feels a little weird since that's something my mom used to do with me. But, I know he means well and so I have my list ready that the teacher mailed to our house that tells what supplies I need. School starts one week from today, so I want to be ready. Little Maya starts preschool this year too. She's so ecited to pick out her backpack and everything.
Day 39
August 14, 2008
Dear Diary, Maya is back to her old self again. She's been chasing Tiger around the house and everything. My Daddy said he was very proud of me when he asked me to call 911. He said I didn't panic or anything and I did a very good job answering the lady's questions. I didn't even have to think about it, it just happened.
Day 38
August 10, 2008
Dear Diary, Last night was kinda scarey. My little sister Maya had been real sick all day with a fever and everything. Well, at bedtime Daddy tucked her in after giving her some medicine. A little while later she was talking in her room. When Daddy went to check on Maya she was having a seizure. Daddy had me call 911 while he ran and put cold wet towels all over her. The paramedics came right away and after making sure she was okay said that she most likely had a seizure from a high fever. We still had to take her to the urgent care doctor to make sure she was okay. Maya was crying about how tired she was, but the doctor said she's gonna be okay. Thank goodness, because that was frightening.
Day 37
August 8, 2008
Dear Diary, Today I found Maya in my room looking through my stuff in my dresser drawers. Little sisters can be so nosey sometimes! I know there's a lock on my dairy, but still. I don't mind her in my room as long as I'm in there. She just needs to stay out when I'm not home.
Day 36
August 5, 2008
Dear Diary, It's good to be back home, but I miss my Auntie Jackie. She said she'll come visit us for Christmas. I wish Christmas wasn't so far away. It's just so nice having another woman in the house. It makes me not miss my mom quite so much.
Day 35
July 30, 2008
Dear Diary, Today we went to the Baywalk mall. We parked in one of those parking garages. Well, first we forgot the token chip in the car when we were supposed to get it validated at the movie theater. Then we went all the way back to the car to get it. Finally we walked back over to the theater to get it validated. Well, somewhere between the Baywalk and the car we lost the token chip! So instead of paying like one dollar to park, they charged my dad twenty dollars for losing the chip. What a ripoff! He was mad at first, but then he laughed at how much trouble one little chip could cause.
Day 34
July 26, 2008
Dear Diary, April came over yesterday. I hadn't seen her since we came back from California. She said she really missed me. I missed her too. We ate popsicles and played in the sprinklers. It was fun. I wish we had a swimming pool, but at least the sprinklers cooled us off.
Day 33
July 23, 2008
Dear Diary, It really is good to be back home in Alabama. I missed my cat Tiger. Not too much going on these last few weeks before school starts. I have a huge stack of books I checked out from the library that I'm going to try to read before school starts. I love chapter books! Especially Judy Blume books.
Day 32
July 18, 2008
Dear Diary, The drive home is so much more boring. Dad says we should be home some time late tomorrow. Next time I wish we could fly on a plane. Then we'd be there already! At least I have my mp3 player to listen to music and of course my books to read. I love to read, but it's much harder to read in the car. After a while I have to take a break or I start to feel car sick.
Day 31
July 16, 2008
Dear Diary, It's gone by so fast. Our vacation in California is just about over. And we leave early tomorrow morning for the long drive back to Alabama. It's been fun seeing my old friends, but I'm going to miss Aunt Jackie and my cousins the most. At least when we get home I can see my cat Tiger again. I've missed him! My teacher has been taking care of him for me. I even called twice while we were gone just to check on Tiger. Mr. Monroe says he's been great.
Day 30
July 12, 2008
Dear Diary, I know we just got to California a week or so ago, but it already seems like we've been back forever. Today I got to see some of my old friends from school. Aunt Jackie invited them over for lunch. It felt like I'd never moved away. One friend, Dani asked if I was moving back. In some ways I wish we could because I have friends and family here. But I also love where we live in Alabama now. And I've made new friends there, like April.
Day 29
July 10, 2008
Dear Diary, My Aunt Jackie has the prettiest jewelry. I was in her bedroom and found this wooden case on her dresser. When I looked inside I saw these beautiful rings and necklaces. I decided to try a few on. Of course, that's when my Aunt walked in the room! She wasn't mad though. She said that the jewelry used to be my grandmother's, and that someday it would belong to my cousins, Maya and me. But not for a while.
Day 28
July 7, 2008
Dear Diary, What does "curiosity killed the cat" mean? My Aunt Jackie said that to me today when I was telling her about how we got our cat Tiger. I found him in a dumpster behind the school. I don't think she was talking about Tiger. I think she was talking about me, and my habit of getting into "trouble".
Day 27
July 3, 2008
Dear Diary, We made it! It was way too long of a drive, but we finally made it back to California. I think Dad was tired of Maya and I asking "Are we there yet?" We're staying with my Aunt Jackie. We get to stay with her for two whole weeks!
Day 26
July 1, 2008
Dear Diary, Right now we're passing through Texas on our way to California. Dad put us in the car when we were still asleep in the middle of the night. It was so dark that I went back to sleep again. When I woke up, we were already in Louisiana. We stopped and had breakfast at some diner by the interstate. There's not much to look at out the window right now, but I'm excited to get to California. Dad says we won't be there until late tomorrow night.
Day 25
June 30, 2008
Dear Diary, Tomorrow we're finally on our way back to California! I'm going to miss Tiger while we're gone. He's staying with my teacher Mr. Monroe. But Mr. Monroe said I can call anytime to check up on him. So instead of worrying about Tiger, I've been packing and getting excited to go back home. Or is it still my home, now that we live here in Alabama?
Day 24
June 26, 2008
Dear Diary, What a day! I went out onto our back porch with my cat Tiger to sit in the hammock and read my book. Well, when I was ready to come inside, the door was locked! I didn't realize it was a self-locking door. I knocked on the door, but nobody answered. My dad was upstairs giving Maya a bath. I guess he couldn't hear me knocking. I was out there quite a while. Or at least it seemed like a while to me! At least I had my book and Tiger to keep me company.
Day 23
June 24, 2008
Dear Diary, I miss going to our school library since there's no school right now. So this afternoon, my dad said he would take Maya and me to the public library downtown. I want to check out as many books as they'll let me. I love to read! Maybe I can check out enough to read on our trip back to California.
Day 22
June 23, 2008
Dear Diary, I think my dad is being unfair. April and I wanted to go to the mall. He asked what for, and when I said just to look around, he said no. He said I'm to young to be hanging out at the mall. Is that so wrong to want to hang out at the mall? Sometimes I think he's to strict.
Day 21
June 18, 2008
Dear Diary, Ouch! I hate going to the doctor and getting a check up. Okay, I don't hate it every year, just the times I have to get shots. I didn't cry or anything, but it stinks knowing that it's gonna hurt. Well, I guess at least I'm done for a few more years. At least that's what the nurse said. I hope she was right!
Day 20
June 16, 2008
Dear Diary, Yesterday for Father's Day, Maya and I made blueberry pancakes for Daddy as a surprise. I think they were a little bit burned, but he swears they were delicious. I like to have mine with a little sugar on top instead of syrup. Well, only a couple more weeks till we drive back to California. I think it will feel weird to go back home. If that really is called home anymore. But I will be glad to see our old friends and my Auntie.
Day 19
June 13, 2008
Dear Diary, Today is Friday the 13th. I'm not usually a superstitious person, but it is kind of spooky. I guess all these scarey things are supposed to happen today. I wonder who came up with that idea. My daddy says he broke his ankle once on a Friday the 13th when he was younger. Not sure if that was spooky or just bad luck.
Day 18
June 8, 2008
Dear Diary, Since we moved to Alabama my little sister Maya has a new habit. She likes to come into my room in the middle of the night and sleep on the floor. I think she's scared to sleep alone in her new room. At first I was mad that she would just come in with her blanket and pillow. But now, I think it's kind of sweet that she needs her big sister.
Day 17
June 4, 2008
Dear Diary, Finally, our butterflies came out of their chrysalis' today at school. The monarchs are so beautiful! After we watched the last one, we took the aquarium outside and let them go. At first the butterflies just stayed in the aquarium. They didn't know what to do, but eventually they flew away. Mr. Monroe says most monarchs only live about a month. Only a month! I hope they fly to my house so I can see them again.
Day 16
June 1, 2008
Dear Diary, Sometimes my dad has to bring work home on the weekends. I know he has to do it, but it stinks. That means my sister and I have to find something to do that's not noisey. I love to read my books, but then my sister bothers me because she's bored. She's not old enough to read by herself yet. At least Dad said if he gets his work done that we can all go to the park this afternoon.
Day 15
May 29, 2008
Dear Diary, My cat Tiger is the best! I can always count on him to be waiting for me when I get home from school. As soon as I open the door, there's Tiger, right by my feet meowing, and rubbing on my legs. Even while I'm writing in my diary, he's curled up next to me sleeping. He sure does a lot of sleeping! But even when Tiger's sleeping, if I scratch behind his ears, he'll start purring.
Day 14
May 27, 2008
Dear Diary, April came to help me in the library today. We whispered while we put the books back on the shelves. There was a bad thunderstorm outside. And April and I both jumped at the same time when a really loud one shook the windows in the library. Then we laughed at each other for being scared!
Day 13
May 24, 2008
Dear Diary, Guess what? My dad says we can go back to visit our friends in California this summer! We're going to drive all the way back. I would rather fly on a plane, but at least we get to go, right? My friends will be so surprised to see me. I think we'll have a lot of fun!
Day 12
May 20, 2008
Dear Diary, Today was my first day helping in the library after school. I had so much fun! The librarian let me shelve the books where they belong after using the scanner to check them in. I think I might like to work in a library when I grow up. My Dad says that at colleges the libraries are really really big. Maybe I would like to work in a college library.
Day 11
May 18, 2008
Dear Diary, April and I had so much fun at our sleepover last night. We stayed up late playing games and doing our hair. And my Dad made us the best blueberry pancakes for breakfast this morning. I feel tired today, but that's alright. I hope we get to do another sleepover soon!
Day 10
May 17, 2008
Dear Diary, My friend April is coming to sleepover my house tonight! It'll be my first sleepover since we moved here from California. We're going to watch movies and do each other's hair. Maybe we'll even stay up really really late and tell secrets and stuff. I better go clean up my room and get ready. April will be here after lunch.
Day 9
May 15, 2008
Dear Diary, I can't believe what happened today! My teacher, Mr. Monroe asked me if I would like to help the librarian afterschool for the next few weeks. You see, since school is almost over, the library will be busy collecting all the books and materials from the classrooms. I am so excited! It's not every day, just Tuesdays and Thursdays. I can't wait to get started!
Day 8
May 12, 2008
Dear Diary, School was fun today. We're learning about butterflies. Mr. Monroe put some caterpillars in an aquarium. We're going to watch them change into butterflies! He says it might take a few weeks. I think they're called monarchs.
Day 7
May 10, 2008
Dear Diary, I have no homework this weekend! I think I'm going to sit next to Tiger and read my books. He is very good at sitting still when I read. And he even likes me to read out loud to him. I wonder if he understands what I'm saying.
Day 6
May 9, 2008
Dear Diary, April and I are now best friends! I still miss my friends in California, but I'm making some new friends here. My dad says now that we're finished unpacking I can have a sleepover soon. I can't wait to invite April!
Day 5
April 9, 2008
Dear Diary, Uh Oh! For a school project, I have to make a whole book about myself. My teacher, Mr. Monroe, said it has to be 10 pages with 10 different things about myself. I guess I better get started, so bye!
Day 4
April 6, 2008
Dear Diary, Things are starting to look up for me! One girl asked me to eat lunch with her. I said, “Yes”, and I even traded my fruit salad for her potato chips. She loves fruit! Oh, and her name is April.
Day 3
April 3, 2008
Dear Diary, I just moved here from California because my dad got a promotion. I guess it’s okay, but it is not easy to make new friends. Since I am the new kid, people kind of stare at me a lot and look at my clothes and my shoes. I’m not sure what’s so interesting; I think I blend in pretty good with everyone else.
Day 2
March 31, 2008
Dear Diary, Today I had to take my cat Tiger to the vet to get his shots. He is so strange because he loves the vet! I guess he just enjoys being in a place where there are lots of animals around to meet. He was so good for the vet and didn’t even meow when he got his shots.
Day 1
March 28, 2008
Dear Diary, Um…Hi. This is my second diary. My first one was really babyish and this one is much nicer and it even has a lock. I am going to hide the key in my junk drawer so my sister can’t find it. She is always getting into everything of mine!
