Keira's Diary

Day 165

March 17, 2010

Dear Diary, I helped Grandma Blake make a chocolate creme cake. It's fun to help because then she lets you lick the bowl and the beaters. Delish! Anyways, nothing else very exciting is going on today. I have a pile of homework to do, but that's not very exciting either. I better get going so I'll be done before dinner.

Day 164

March 11, 2010

Dear Diary, Grandma Blake took Maya and me to the library after school. I love the library, but Maya wants to play in the kids' play area, and I want to read where it's quiet. It's hard for me to concentrate sometimes when it's really noisey. I finally found a corner with these really comfy beanbag chairs that was perfect-

Day 163

March 7, 2010

Dear Diary, I was so busy reading my book this morning, that I almost missed the bus to school! Sometimes I do that. I get so busy reading that I don't hear anything and forget to pay attention to what time it is. That's when you know you're reading a really good book.

Day 162

March 2, 2010

Dear Diary, Tiger is running all around the house like a wild cat. Either there's a full moon, or there' a storm coming. That's the only time he gets crazy like that. It's fun to play with him and he'll chase me all over the house if I drag his mouse toy on the string behind me. Silly cat!

Day 161

February 27, 2010

Dear Diary, There's a big dance for the 8th graders at our school tonight. I wish I was in 8th grade. None of the younger grades are allowed to go. That stinks, but at least I'll get to go someday. Not much going on tonight. I'm just going to chill with my family.

Day 160

February 20, 2010

Dear Diary, I love cheese! I like all kinds of cheese and I eat it all the time. My daddy says I'm going to turn into a mouse. Yeah, right Dad. Hey, at least it's healthy. I'd rather eat cheese than candy any day. I'm eating it right now!

Day 159

February 16, 2010

Dear Diary, April felt really bad when I saw her in school today, about what happened at her house with her parents. Her parents felt bad too I guess. They said they didn't realize I was there with April. Do all parents argue like that? I don't remember my parents doing that, so I'm thinking no.

Day 158

February 15, 2010

Dear Diary, I felt really weird at April's house yesterday. Her parents got into an argument right while we were in there. I didn't know if I was supposed to leave, or pretend I wasn't really standing there. April said they sometimes do that. It's one thing when it's YOUR parents, but they're not my parents, and it made me feel really uncomfortable.

Day 157

February 8, 2010

Dear Diary, The weekend went by way too fast! April came over all day Saturday and then went out for dinner yesterday. It was a good weekend, I just wish it could have been longer. I have 2 tests this week, maybe that's why!

Day 156

February 4, 2010

Dear Diary, Dad let me help him paint my closet. It was kind of fun. I'm not sure I'd like painting all the time, but it was something new I'd never done before. I had to wear a plastic bag over my hair to keep the paint off. OMG! If anyone had seen me with that thing on my head I would have died!

Day 155

January 30, 2010

Dear Diary, Maya is all over me today. Ever since I woke up, she wouldn't stop bugging me to play a game with her. Finally I did, since I thought she'd leave me alone after that, but it didn't work. Then she wanted me to read a million books to her. I love my little sister, but sometimes it's a pain!

Day 154

January 25, 2010

Dear Diary, My stomach doesn't feel so good right now, and I think I know why. Grandma Blake had some lemons leftover, and I started sucking on one. It was so good, that I think I sucked the juice out of 2 or 3 whole lemons! But now my stomach feels kind of gross, like I might get sick. Too many lemons!

Day 153

January 18, 2010

Dear Diary, Our smoke detector went off tonight, and it scared me to death! I was in the bathtub when it went off right outside the bathroom door. Dad thinks the fireplace set it off because the fire was too close to the front of the fireplace. That's such an awful noise when that thing goes off, but I guess it has to be.

Day 152

January 14, 2010

Dear Diary, Sadie finally came back to school. She was visiting her dad in Georgia. I didn't know she only lived with her mom. Not that it matters, I live only with my dad, so I know what that's like. I'm just glad Sadie's back and she wasn't sick. Today she traded me her peanut butter sandwich for my tuna fish one.

Day 151

January 6, 2010

Dear Diary, I haven't seen Sadie in school since we came back from vacation. I wonder where she is? Sick? I don't even have her phone number. We're friends, but not that good of friends yet. Maybe I can look her number up since I know her last name. I hope she's okay-

Day 150

January 3, 2010

Dear Diary, All I did all day today was read. Time goes by so fast when you're reading! The book I'm reading is so good that I wanted to try to finish it today. I only have one chapter left. It's a good thing I go back to school and the library tomorrow, I'm all out of new books to read.

Day 149

December 27, 2009

Dear Diary, Dad wants us to go to the park this afternoon. We usually walk to this really cool wooden water tower. It's on this trail by the playground. It's a pretty far walk, but I think it's neat. You can see really far from up there.

Day 148

December 23, 2009

Dear Diary, Grandma Blake took us to the library this morning. It's going to be closed for a few days, and I wanted to have plenty of books to read. Maya only gets picture books, she likes me to read them to her over and over again. I only get chapter books now. I think my dad's home, see ya!

Day 147

December 16, 2009

Dear Diary, I haven't seen April after school all week. Every day she's had to run errands with her mom, or had something going on. I miss not seeing her! She said next week we'll definitely get together. Sounds like a plan!

Day 146

December 11, 2009

Dear Diary, We're going to some big holiday parade tomorrow. They usually have lots of floats and firetrucks, all kinds of stuff. Hopefully it won't rain like it did last year. Maya is really excited-

Day 145

December 5, 2009

Dear Diary, I'm having fun at my Auntie Jackie's house. Maya and I are here for the weekend because my dad had to go out of town. I feel kind of bad that Maya feels left out because my cousin Sean and I play together. We don't have a cousin here that's Maya's age. Maybe we can find something that would be fun for Maya too.

Day 144

December 1, 2009

Dear Diary, We're doing a book exchange at school before winter break. Everyone in our language arts class is supposed to bring a book and you get a different book to take home. I have no idea what book to bring. It's supposed to be something I've read before that I like. Hmmmmm....

Day 143

November 25, 2009

Dear Diary, My mouth is on fire! Daddy made some southwest omlettes for dinner tonight, and he swore they weren't spicey, but they were, or else my lips and tongue wouldn't be tingling! He makes everything spicey. Maybe some icecream will cool it off-

Day 142

November 20, 2009

Dear Diary, Report card day today! I did pretty good, well, in everything except art and writing. I'm just not an artistic person, so it's hard for me. Maybe I don't try as much as I should though. And writing? Don't even get me started on that class!

Day 141

November 19, 2009

Dear Diary, Somebody keeps calling us looking for someone named Chris. I keep telling them they have the wrong number, but it's like they don't believe me or something. Why would I lie about it? That makes no sense. I hear the phone again, let my dad get it this time, maybe they'll believe him-

Day 140

November 11, 2009

Dear Diary, It feels odd to have a day off from school in the middle of the week, but today is Veteran's Day. My dad still has to work, so we're staying with Grandma Blake. I asked if April could come over, but my dad said not until he gets home from work. That stinks!

Day 139

November 6, 2009

Dear Diary, You know when you have an idea in your head of coming home and drinking that one certain thing, like pink lemonade? All the way home I couldn't wait to get a big glass of it. When I opened the fridge I found out that my little sister had already beat me to it, and it was all gone. I hate it when that happens!

Day 138

November 2, 2009

Dear Diary, I woke up this morning, and my nose was so stuffy, I couldn't even go back to sleep. I hope it's not a cold or something. Grandma Blake says to drink my orange juice and eat lots of fruit. I do that anyway. Well, off to school I go-

Day 137

October 25, 2009

Dear Diary, My sister is watching Finding Nemo out in the family room. I love that movie, but I've seen it like a million times. Okay, I guess the turtle Crush is still cute, even after the one millionth time. Maybe I'll go sit out there with Maya and watch it until dinner is ready.

Day 136

October 20, 2009

Dear Diary, You should see the enormous bruise on my dad's calf. I thought he might be exaggerating, or saying he hurt his leg just to get out of going to the park, but he really did hurt himself. And now he's limping around the house. Maybe he should go as a zombie for Halloween!

Day 135

October 19, 2009

Dear Diary, I thought my dad was going to take us to the park after dinner, but that didn't happen. He says he hurt his leg playing basketball during his lunch break, and now it hurts to walk. That doesn't sound good. I hope he'll be better soon. I really wanted to go see my friends at the park!

Day 134

October 10, 2009

Dear Diary, My cousin Sean is in trouble. He got sent home from school yesterday for fighting. Daddy said someone was picking on him, and he was standing up for himself. How do you stand up for yourself, and not get into trouble? I'm not sure I know the answer to that. I guess Sean could have walked away.

Day 133

October 5, 2009

Dear Diary, Oops! I was eating my fruit smoothie in the cafeteria and what a mess! They always put one flavor ice on the bottom, and a different one on top. I wanted to taste the bottom one because lunch was almost over. Well, I started scooping at it with my spoon, and ended up spilling it all over the front of my shirt! It was pretty funny though. Somtimes you just have to laugh.

Day 132

October 2, 2009

Dear Diary, Aunt Jackie's coming over tonight. She's going to do my hair again, and that can take a long time. I like my hair all done pretty, I just hate having to sit still for so long! It's really boring, and I'd rather be playing with my cousin Sean.

Day 131

September 26, 2009

Dear Diary, I hope it will be a better weekend than last weekend. And I hope it doesn't rain again for a long time! I want to be able to play outside. But, if it does rain, I checked out a few new books to read, so at least I'll have something to do-

Day 130

September 22, 2009

Dear Diary, We have had so much rain lately that there was actually a lot of flooding. I'm glad our neighborhood didn't flood up to the houses, but we saw on tv where some houses did. I cannot imagine how scarey that must be to have so many of your things ruined by the water. Our school is doing a food drive to help out some of the victims.

Day 129

September 15, 2009

Dear Diary, Tiger's going to be okay! The vet was right, it was just a cyst. We have to keep giving him his medicine so it doesn't get infected, but at least he's okay. It felt so weird coming home after school yesterday and not seeing Tiger run out to say hi. He was gone all day, but now he's sitting right next to me on my bed. I love Tiger!

Day 128

September 13, 2009

Dear Diary, We're taking Tiger to the vet tomorrow for surgery. I feel bad for him, but he's got this lump on his side, and the vet says it's probably just a cyst, but we have to get it removed. It wasn't that big a few days ago, but all of a sudden it's huge. I know they put him to sleep, but I hope it doesn't hurt when he wakes up.

Day 127

September 6, 2009

Dear Diary, Labor Day is tomorrow, and you know what that means? No school! We just started, and I can't believe we're already getting a day off. Last week was the first week, and I had a ton of homework already, so I'll take an extra day of rest. My dad is off tomorrow too. I hope we do something fun!

Day 126

September 3, 2009

Dear Diary, I have so much homework to do, it's not funny! It's like all your teachers don't care that other teachers are giving you homework too. They think they're the only one. I already had a snack, and checked my email, so there's no avoiding it now. Wish me luck-

Day 125

August 27, 2009

Dear Diary, Dad brought home doughnuts for a special treat this morning. My favorite is the coconut one. Maya says that's her favorite too, but I think she's just trying to be like me. I think I'm going to go brush Tiger. I haven't done it in awhile, and he's getting kind of fluffy looking-

Day 124

August 25, 2009

Dear Diary, April and I watched The Bee Movie at her house yesterday. It's cute, but I've already seen it a bunch of times. April loves that movie. Well, pretty soon school will be starting. I think it must be next week!

Day 123

August 17, 2009

Dear Diary, Guess where we finally got to go yesterday?!?! The sprayground! It wasn't raining, and it wasn't closed for maintenance. It was a blast! There were a ton of kids there running around, but it was fun. I think I'm a little big for the slides, but they had water cannons and buckets that dumped over when they filled up. Maya loved it too. What a good day!

Day 122

August 11, 2009

Dear Diary, I hate when someone rings your doorbell and you have to pretend you're not home. Whenever someone rings the doorbell during the day we don't open it unless we know who it is. Even though Grandma Blake is here while my dad is gone, he says it's not a good idea. So I feel like the person keeps ringing the doorbell, because it's like they know we're home. I feel bad, but it makes sense to be safe.

Day 121

August 6, 2009

Dear Diary, Maybe going to the spraypark is never going to happen. We were supposed to try again this afternoon, but there's a huge thunderstorm sitting right on top of us. The power has already gone out twice, so I better go show Grandma Blake where the candles are.

Day 120

August 2, 2009

Dear Diary, We tried to go to the spraypark this morning, and it was closed for maintenance. What a dissapointment! We drove all the way over there for nothing. It's supposed to be open again later today, but we can't go later, we're going to Auntie Jackie's.

Day 119

July 25, 2009

Dear Diary, April just left, and now I have this huge mess to clean up, but that's okay. We had so much fun! We ate popcorn, which is part of the mess I have to clean up. And we read our books while we were laying on the new air mattress. It was fun! I'm not sure she liked the chicken my dad made for dinner, but I didn't really like it either-

Day 118

July 23, 2009

Dear Diary, April's coming over tomorrow to spend the night! Right after I get home from the library her mom is going to drop her off. I can't wait to give her this friendship bracelet I made for her. I'm making the exact same one for me, but I'm still not finished with it yet.

Day 117

July 19, 2009

Dear Diary, We just got a new super huge air mattress, which is great for when April spends the night. We can both sleep on it! Dad said maybe next weekend. That means yes as long as he doesn't forget, but I'll remind him.

Day 116

July 14, 2009

Dear Diary, Guess who came in the library today? That girl from school, Sadie. April and I met her at our lunch table. She seemed surprised to see me there, but I told her I'm a volunteer. We ended up talking for a little while, she seems nice.

Day 115

July 6, 2009

Dear Diary, We were jammed at the library today since it was closed for the holiday weekend. There was a huge stack of books for me to reshelve. I saw this book on the bottom of the stack I wanted to look at because it had a cool looking cover, and when I pulled it out, the whole stack fell on top of me! Okay, maybe I should have waited until I got to the bottom of the stack after putting the rest of the books away, but I didn't really think about it. Mrs. Jones, the librarian, just laughed!

Day 114

July 4, 2009

Dear Diary, We had so much fun last night at the Downtown Streetfest! There were train rides and bounce houses. Maya and I had cotton candy too. There was so much to do and see that we still didn't get to do it all before we went home. And tonight we're going back to the Riverfront for fireworks. Auntie Jackie and Sean are coming too, and we're going to have a picnic and everything. Can't wait!

Day 113

June 30, 2009

Dear Diary, Grandma Blake taught Maya and I how to make these mini cheesecakes that look like cupcakes. Then we put cherries on top. Maya mostly licked the spoons. They were delicious! I think Grandma should open a bakery or something. Everything she makes is great!

Day 112

June 27, 2009

Dear Diary, April was supposed to meet me at the library this morning so we could look at books before I started my volunteering. She never showed up! I know she likes sleeping in, but not when you're supposed to meet someone. There were so many books to reshelve today that I never even made it out of the easy reading section!

Day 111

June 17, 2009

Dear Diary, Okay, tubing was a blast, but I'm not sure how much Maya liked it. She had fun for the first little bit, and then I think she got bored. Daddy had a hard time keeping her on the tube with him. Aunt Jackie and Seah came too, and we tied our rafts together so we could all talk and not drift apart. I didn't know tubing could be so exhausting! I ate the bbq and fell asleep in the car on the way home-

Day 110

June 13, 2009

Dear Diary, I've never been tubing before, but we're getting ready to go today. I bet the water will be freezing, but it should be fun. You ride down the river all day, and at the end there's a bbq restaurant for dinner. Yum, yum!

Day 109

June 10, 2009

Dear Diary, April is already worried about being bored this summer, but not me. Mrs. Jones, the librarian, says I can keep volunteering this summer since she could use the help. And I know there's like a million different books I want to read. And then I'm going to play with my friends and spend time with my family. That should just about do it!

Day 108

June 5, 2009

Dear Diary, It's a red plate day today! That's right, our last day of school since we didn't have any weather make-up days. I know it seems silly caring about eating dinner with a red plate that says "You are special today", but I do care. It's something we've done for as long as I can remember. Grandma Blake is baking me some cookies too. They must be done, I can smell them!

Day 107

May 29, 2009

Dear Diary, I get to spend the night tonight at Aunt Jackie's house! My dad like hardly ever lets me spend the night anywhere, not even at April's. I have no clue what we're going to do, but I don't care. I love Aunt Jackie, and Sean's pretty cool too. Maya's all upset because she wants to go too, but Dad said no.  Gotta go feed Tiger before I go!

Day 106

May 23, 2009

Dear Diary, I asked my dad if we were going to California again this summer like we did last year. I was surprised to hear him say no. Now that Aunt Jackie and Sean live here we really don't have any family left there. It would be nice to see my friends again, but I guess that's not going to happen. Well, I'm going to go call April-

Day 105

May 16, 2009

Dear Diary, This was my first week working in the library. I was in training pretty much all week with the staff showing me how to use the computer system, and shelve their books. I think the librarian was impressed that I caught on so fast. I want to do a good job.

Day 104

May 11, 2009

Dear Diary, I'm so glad that yesterday is over. Mother's Day always makes me sad because then I miss my own mom. My dad tries so hard to keep us busy so we don't think about it. And having Aunt Jackie here definitely helps. I've been trying to not think about it, but sometimes it's hard...

Day 103

May 7, 2009

Dear Diary, I went and got my haircut after dinner. I always get nervous about having someone new cut my hair because I'm very picky about how I like it. This woman did an awesome job, and styled it real pretty. I wish it would look like that when I do it in the morning for school! I just need my own stylist here in my house!

Day 102

May 1, 2009

Dear Diary, Tiger escaped again! I guess I didn't latch the screen door all the way, and after dinner we realized he was missing. It's not like he went very far or anything. He was hiding under my dad's car! At least he didn't have to stay outside all night.

Day 101

April 25, 2009

Dear Diary, I saw my old teacher, Mr. Monroe, at the store today! I haven't seen him since last summer. He asked me all about school, and of course, I told him about me starting at the library next week. I think he was excited for me too. I like my teachers now, but I miss having Mr. Monroe as a teacher, he was the best!

Day 100

April 20, 2009

Dear Diary, Can you believe that my dad wanted to know how much I was going to get paid to help out in the library? I told him nothing, that it's volunteering. It's not like it's a job, it's something I want to do, something I'm passionate about. He said I can do it, but then he started asking me to get passionate about cleaning up my room and doing my other chores for free!

Day 99

April 13, 2009

Dear Diary, Guess what? The librarian said I can start helping in the library before or after school if I want to. Kind of like I did in elementary school. She said I just have to ask my dad if it's okay. I hope he says yes. I'm there all the time anyway!

Day 98

April 10, 2009

Dear Diary, We all went to the park last night. You know, Daddy, Maya, me and my aunt and cousin. We went for a long walk on the trail to the water tower. It was kind of neat because when you get to the top you can look out over the whole city. It was really pretty.

Day 97

April 6, 2009

Dear Diary, I finally found my wallet. It was in the backyard. I know, I know, not a good place for it. I accidentally left it outside when I saw a wild bunny in our yard, and I wanted to get a bowl of water for the bunny. I must have set it down and then totally forgot. I'm just glad it was still there.

Day 96

April 1, 2009

Dear Diary, I had to pay a fine at the library today. I have never had an overdue book before! They wouldn't even let me check out any new books until I paid the fine either, and I didn't have any money with me, so I had to borrow the money from April. Where is my wallet anyways?

Day 95

March 25, 2009

Dear Diary, Sean was right, he figured it out! He just had to download some updates from the internet, and now I can play it. It's kind of neat. It's a game that teaches geography and social studies, but you have to do lots of reading and research in the almanac to play. And you know I love to read! I'm going to see if April wants to come play too-

Day 94

March 22, 2009

Dear Diary, My dad brought home this new game for the computer, and it doesn't even work! Well, actually it's just that our computer isn't able to run the game. We tried right after dinner, and it just says "error, error". My cousin Sean said maybe he can figure it out. That would be cool!

Day 93

March 17, 2009

Dear Diary, Why do some people feel the need to pinch you if you're not wearing green on St. Patrick's Day? It's just not right! I don't really like wearing the color green because I don't think it looks good on me. Purple yes, red yes, blue yes, black yes, green no. After a little while I started warning kids that they better not pinch me or they were going to be sorry!

Day 92

March 10, 2009

Dear Diary, Aunt Jackie came over last night, she wanted to braid my hair for me. It took like forever! And I thought I was going to fall asleep before she finished, but it looks good on me now. Have I mentioned that I really love having Aunt Jackie and Sean live so close now? And she loves April! I knew she would-

Day 91

March 6, 2009

Dear Diary, My cousin Sean has a game system, and we played some college basketball game. I think I did pretty good, but he still beat me. We were laughing so heard that my drink was coming out my nose. I know, gross, but it was very funny!

Day 90

March 3, 2009

Dear Diary, School was late getting started yesterday because there was a really bad snowstorm. I don't see why they didn't just cancel the whole day, but they didn't. Instead, they had it start 2hours late. At least I missed my vocabulary test that was supposed to be in the morning. Well, not really since we made it up today.

Day 89

February 25, 2009

Dear Diary, April is coming with me to my Auntie Jackie's house. I'm so glad that my auntie and April finally get to meet each other. They're two of my favorite people in the whole world! I just hope they like each other.

Day 88

February 24, 2009

Dear Diary, You know how sometimes you get a song stuck in your head and it won't go away? That happens to me sometimes, like right now. And it's not even a song I like! It's a song from my sister's alphabet bus that sings songs and teachers her letter sounds. It keeps playing the same songs over and over. Make it go away!

Day 87

February 16, 2009

Dear Diary, We had a half day of school today. It's always a crazy schedule. And then right after lunch we go home. Not sure why they even bother, it doesn't feel like we get very much done on those days. My dad's coming home early from work today, and then we're going over to Auntie Jackie's house for dinner.

Day 86

February 12, 2009

Dear Diary, Aunt Jackie and my cousin Sean are finally here. They just moved into their house, and haven't even finished unpacking the boxes yet. I am so so so happy they're here! I still can't beieve it, I feel like I'm dreaming, and I'm going to wake up, and they'll be back in California. I hope not!

Day 85

February 6, 2009

Dear Diary, At lunch today, I traded lunch with Sadie. She had egg salad sandwich and I had cafeteria grilled cheese. Her sandwich was definitely way better. I love egg salad with olives in it. I think we're going to like eating lunch with Sadie from now on. She's a nice girl.

Day 84

February 3, 2009

Dear Diary, Well, I finally asked that girl at our lunch table what her name is. It's Sadie. She says she's been going to school here since October, but I don't remember seeing her that long ago. Anyways, she seems kind of quiet, but that's okay, April and I talk a lot.

Day 83

January 26, 2009

Dear Diary, April and I eat lunch together every day. She brings her lunch from home, and I buy mine usually. Sometimes we trade sandwiches if we both want to. There's this girl who always sits at our table, but she doesn't talk much. I don't even know her name. Maybe tomorrow I should ask her.

Day 82

January 22, 2009

Dear Diary, Dad had to take the day off from work today because Grandma Blake wasn't feeling so good this morning. He can get some work done from home on his laptop, but it's not quite the same I guess as being in his office. I'm at school all day, but Maya isn't. She LOVES when Dad has to stay home.

Day 81

January 17, 2009

Dear Diary, Good news! I finished my book report just in time. I hate cutting it that close, and don't plan to again. But anyways, the good news is that I got a 'B+'. Pretty good, huh? I read the book The Tale of Despereaux. I actually really liked it, and my favorite character was Princess Pea. It's much easier to write a book report about a book you like, trust me-

Day 80

January 10, 2009

Dear Diary, I have a book report due in two days. And I love to read. The only thing is, I haven't even read a book for it yet because I had a hard time picking one since there are so many authors I like. I did check out a few books the other day at the library when I went with April, but I really need to get started. 2 days? Yikes!

Day 79

January 4, 2009

Deat Diary, Auntie Jackie and Sean went back to California, but I'm really not too sad because I know they'll be back soon. In fact, my Auntie said she has to fly back in a couple weeks after the realtor has found a couple houses for her to look at. I can't believe they're really moving here. I never thought it would happen! Well, off to the library I go. I'm meeting April there.

Day 78

January 1, 2009

Dear Diary, I love New Year's Eve and all, but our neighbors were up all night setting off fireworks that I could have sworn were right under our house. I went outside to see where they were, and wouldn't you know, I forgot about not closing the door and it locked behind me. And you know that's not the first time that's happened! I had to ring the doorbell and wake up my dad to let me back in. He just gave me that look, and laughed. Very funny Dad-

Day 77

December 27, 2008

Dear Diary, It's true! It's true! Auntie Jackie told us herself tonight that she has a job offer to move to Alabama, and she's going to take it! That means she and Sean are going to move here soon. That's the best news I've heard in a long time I think. Maya doesn't totally understand what it means. I think she's excited just because she sees everyone else excited.

Day 76

December 24, 2008

Dear Diary, Auntie Jackie is coming in 2 more days! I don't know how long she can stay, but my cousin Sean is coming too. Dad said it's supposed to be a secret, but Aunt Jackie might be moving here in a couple more months. I guess she needs to come look at the schools and find a place to live. That would be so awesome, I've really missed Aunt Jackie since we left California-

Day 75

December 17, 2008

Dear Diary, Yikes! The stores are so busy lately with everybody getting ready for Christmas. No thank you. We baked Christmas cookies this afternoon with Grandma Blake. You know, the kind you make with cookie cutters, and then decorate with icing and sprinkles? They're awesome!

Day 74

December 15, 2008

Dear Diary, I got my report card today and I made straight A's! I've never done that before! Usually I miss it by one or two grades. I think Daddy will be happy. That means I get to eat with "The Red Plate" tonight. We have this plate that says "You are special today". And in our house, it's a tradition that whoever gets a good report card, or has a birthday or something gets to use the red plate. Looks like it's my turn!

Day 73

December 5, 2008

Dear Diary, Daddy has decided to start giving Maya a chore to do since she's getting a little bigger now. Her new job is to feed Tiger, which used to be my job. I'm supposed to watch her feed Tiger because sometimes Maya gives Tiger way too much, and other times, hardly anything. I keep telling her you have to give them just the right amount to keep them healthy. Daddy says once Maya can feed Tiger all by herself, he'll give me a different job.

Day 72

December 2, 2008

Dear Diary, Middle school is so different than elementary school was. No Halloween parties, no Thanksgiving plays. We just keep doing lots of work, tests and quizzes and homework. My favorite class is language arts because I love to read. We actually get to read chapter books all the time. The only thing about language arts that is hard for me is learning all the grammar rules. Our teacher gave us this huge book that has all the grammar rules in it we need to know. Whew!

Day 71

November 17, 2008

Dear Diary, Mrs. Blake was back today, she said her appointment went fine, no big deal. She's the nicest lady to my sister and me. Lots of times I call her Grandma Blake, or just Grandma, instead of Mrs. Blake. I think she likes that.

Day 70

November 14, 2008

Dear Diary, Daddy had to come home early from work today. Mrs. Blake had some doctor's appointment to go to. Something about her diabetes. Yes, even though Mrs. Blake makes the best cookies, she doesn't even hardly touch them, they're for Maya and me. I guess people with diabetes have to be careful about their sugar levels or they can get sick.

Day 69

November 12, 2008

Dear Diary, April is too funny sometimes! She was trying to show off on her new bike and she crashed right into her mom's car parked in the driveway. I was laughing so hard my eyes were watering. Of course I made sure she was okay first, then I laughed! Even she was laughing. I'm so glad she's my best friend.

Day 68

November 8, 2008

Dear Diary, I kept putting off telling my dad about my science test grade. I don't know why, it's not like avoiding it made it go away or anything. And a 'C' isn't good, but it's not terrible. So I finally told him and he said, "I know you can do better." That's it. No long lecture, no nagging. That almost made it worse, because I know he's right!

Day 67

November 5, 2008

Dear Diary, I got a 'C'! That's not great, but it's not so bad considering I forgot to study. My teacher said she was a little disappointed, but that if I do better on the next test it shouldn't hurt my grade. Now I just have to remember to tell Dad that part when I tell him my test score.

Day 66

November 4, 2008

Dear Diary, I had planned on studying for my science test, really I did. But then I found this bird nest outside in the grass that must have blown down during the storm we had last night. I forgot all about my test and was busy looking all around for what happened to the eggs. I never found them. Maybe the nest was old or hadn't even been used yet. Anyways, my test was today, and I don't feel very good about how I did. Maybe I guessed really good!

Day 65

October 31, 2008

Dear Diary, HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I'm not sure why we had to have school today, it is a holiday, isn't it? Oh well, we mostly did fun stuff in school today anyway. In Language we read scarey stories. In math class we did fractions with candy bars. And in science, our teacher did these cool experiments with the class that made things smoke and bubble and all kinds of cool stuff. Better go, Maya wants help with her costume.

Day 64

October 26, 2008

Dear Diary, Tiger somehow got out of the house yesterday. We think Maya may have accidentally let him out. I kept wondering where he was, then before dinner we heard him meowing at the back patio door. He was all shaking and upset. I don't think Tiger has every really been outside before. He doesn't even have his claws to help him climb trees or anything. I wonder what kind of adventure Tiger went on. KNowing him, he probably just curled up under the bushes and went to sleep!

Day 63

October 23, 2008

Dear Diary, It's kind of embarassing, but I have this bump on my chin, and I think it's a pimple. I've never had one before, but it hurts. I thought about calling April to ask her what to do about it, but that seemed strange. I guess I'll ask my dad. Hopefully it won't get any bigger!

Day 62

October 20, 2008

Dear Diary, Dad is going out tonight with one of his buddies to eat wings and watch Monday Night Football. I hope he'll bring me home some hot wings! Mrs. Blake said she would stay with Maya and me for tonight. I love when we get to stay with Mrs. Blake. She doesn't let you run wild or anything, but she really is a lot of fun. We play games and make cookies and other cool stuff.

Day 61

October 18, 2008

Dear Diary, April and I went swimming at her house today. Boy was that water cold! I didn't even know it would be that cold, and then I jumped in. That was a surprise! That's weird how it can be so warm outside, but the water is already cold.

Day 60

October 13, 2008

Dear Diary, We had a really hard homework assignment to do this weekend. We had to write a paper about why Christopher Columbus was important in history. That was really hard! I wrote about how he wasn't trying to find new land, he was actually trying to find a new route to Asia when he found America. Hopefully my teacher will like what I wrote.

Day 59

October 9, 2008

Dear Diary, My dad wasn't even mad at me for making such a big mess. He just looked at me and smiled. Then we finished making the waffles together. We even put chocolate chips in them. Those were the best ones.

Day 58

October 8, 2008

Dear Diary, This morning I woke up before anybody else. I thought it would be a nice surprise to make breakfast for Dad and Maya. I decided it would be easy to make waffles, so I made the batter and got the waffle iron ready. I wanted to see how big of a waffle I could make. Well, I must have put too much batter and it made a huge mess! Tiger ended up licking the batter that spilled onto the floor. Can you tell I've never made waffles by myself before?

Day 57

October 4, 2008

Dear Diary, April is going out of town this weekend and I'm going to miss her! We always see each other on the weekends. She promised me that next weekend we can have a sleepover. I hope so! So I don't really think anything exciting is going on this weekend, just being at home with my family.  Oh well.

Day 56

October 2, 2008

Dear Diary, After I finished my classwork today, my language arts teacher let me go to the library. I was allowed to stay the rest of the period, which was fine by me. Sometimes I know exactly what book I'm looking for. But other times I want to just look around. I finished my Judy Blume book and need something else to read now.

Day 55

September 29, 2008

Dear Diary, I feel really bad about the way I talked to my dad tonight. I guess I'm just tired or something, but I was really annoyed when he kept asking me about my homework. I told him it was done, but then he kept asking me about it, like I didn't answer him already. So I said "Hellloooo? Didn't you hear me?" And I said it in a not very nice tone. I could tell by the look on his face that he wasn't happy with me, and then he sent me to my room. I hate apologizing because it's always so hard, but I probably need to.

Day 54

September 25, 2008

Dear Diary, When I came home from school, Mrs. Blake had chocolate chip cookies waiting for me! Yummy! I guess she and Maya had baked them while I was at school. I hope I didn't eat too many, my tummy feels awfully full. April is coming over in a little bit, so I better get going on my homework. We're going to hang out in my room and listen to music.

Day 53

September 24, 2008

Dear Diary, For some strange reason I could not remember my locker combination this morning. I remembered exactly where my locker was, but my mind went totally blank when I started turning the dial on the combination lock. I ended up going to my next class without my books. The teacher let me borrow a book for today, but reminded me I need to come to class prepared. Later in the day I finally remembered the combination for my locker. I don't know where my brain went!

Day 52

September 21, 2008

Dear Diary, On the way home from the library today we stopped by the store. I cannot believe that they already have everything decorated for Halloween! It's not even October yet. I'm to old for dressing up anymore, but it'll be fun taking Maya around trick-or-treating. Hopefully she'll share her candy with me! She's going to be a fairy for Halloween.

Day 51

September 19, 2008

Dear Diary, Tiger accidentally scratched Maya on her shin. I think she startled him when she walked up behind him and started squealing. Tiger jumped up scared to death, and when cats do that their claws automatically come out. He must have scratched her as he was running by. Maya is okay, but I explained to her that it's not a good idea to sneak up on animals, even friendly ones like Tiger.

Day 50

September 15, 2008

Dear Diary, My Dad doesn't understand why I can't just renew my books online instead of going to the library. I can't explain it. I just love walking up and down the aisles of books. Sometimes I pick a book just because of the way the cover or binding look. You can't see that on the library website. "Alright", he tells me, "we'll go to the library."

Day 49

September 12, 2008

Dear Diary, When I go to school and Dad goes to work, Maya stays with Mrs. Blake. She's this really nice older lady that is almost like a grandmother to us. She takes good care of Maya since Maya won't be old enough for school for a couple more years. And when I come home from school, Mrs. Blake gives me a big hug and asks me about my day at school. I like that.

Day 48

September 9, 2008

Dear Diary, I felt so bad for April today. We were walking home from school, and she tripped and fell on the sidewalk. She got a hole in her brand new capri pants and then her knee was bleeding. I helped her carry her backpack the rest of the way. That seemed to make her feel a little better. April says she's always tripping over things.

Day 47

September 5, 2008

Dear Diary, Would you believe that I got lost at school today? Or should I say I lost my classroom. I went down a different wing for math and then got all turned around. Then of course the bell rang and I was late to class. So I started racing all around and finally the vice principal found me and showed me where it was.

Day 46

September 3, 2008

Dear Diary, I keep forgetting that today is already Wednesday since we had the holiday off on Monday. That means the week is already more than half over. That was fast! April is coming over in a little bit. We both have the same social studies teacher and we have our first project. Our projects aren't going to be the same or anything. We just thought it might be fun to work on them at the same time so we can hang out too.

Day 45

August 31, 2008

Dear Diary, Thankfully we don't have to worry too much about the hurricane since we don't live right on the coast. We'll probably still have a lot of rain. And you always have to watch for tornado warnings during a bad storm. Now news that they're going to be closing school or anything yet. I hope not, I hate missing school.

Day 44

August 30, 2008

Dear Diary, My stomach is rumbling. Ever since I was a little girl, I have had a big bowl of cereal right before bed. Not sure how it got started, but it's definitely a habit. Now Maya has started asking for a bowl before bed too. She thinks it makes her a big girl to do the same thing as me. It's really sweet actually. Well, time to snack!

Day 43

August 25, 2008

Dear Diary, Well, I like all my teachers so far. And some kids I remember from last year. Thankfully April is in my homeroom. At least I get to see her for part of the day. And our teachers let you sit with other classes for lunch if you want. The only bad thing today was that my brand new backpack broke. Of course I didn't realize the zipper on it was broken, until someone tapped me on the shoulder and showed me my books and papers all in a trail behind me. Oh well, things happen.

Day 42

August 23, 2008

Dear Diary, Dad took us to the rec center today so we could swim. My friend April came with us too. They have this huge water area with slides and spray cannons and everything. Of course Maya went on the toddler slide in the shallow area. Since April and I are bigger and better swimmers, we used the really big slide in the deep end. It was a lot of fun!

Day 41

August 19, 2008

Dear Diary, Shopping went pretty good yesterday, but I couldn't believe how crowded the stores were. It felt like we were shopping at Christmas time. We did find some cool shirt and shorts sets. Maya and I both got new shoes for school too. I can't wait to show April my new outfits when she comes over tomorrow.

Day 40

August 18, 2008

Dear Diary, Dad wants to take me shopping for school clothes and supplies today. It feels a little weird since that's something my mom used to do with me. But, I know he means well and so I have my list ready that the teacher mailed to our house that tells what supplies I need. School starts one week from today, so I want to be ready. Little Maya starts preschool this year too. She's so ecited to pick out her backpack and everything.

Day 39

August 14, 2008

Dear Diary, Maya is back to her old self again. She's been chasing Tiger around the house and everything. My Daddy said he was very proud of me when he asked me to call 911. He said I didn't panic or anything and I did a very good job answering the lady's questions. I didn't even have to think about it, it just happened.

Day 38

August 10, 2008

Dear Diary, Last night was kinda scarey. My little sister Maya had been real sick all day with a fever and everything. Well, at bedtime Daddy tucked her in after giving her some medicine. A little while later she was talking in her room. When Daddy went to check on Maya she was having a seizure. Daddy had me call 911 while he ran and put cold wet towels all over her. The paramedics came right away and after making sure she was okay said that she most likely had a seizure from a high fever. We still had to take her to the urgent care doctor to make sure she was okay. Maya was crying about how tired she was, but the doctor said she's gonna be okay. Thank goodness, because that was frightening.

Day 37

August 8, 2008

Dear Diary, Today I found Maya in my room looking through my stuff in my dresser drawers. Little sisters can be so nosey sometimes! I know there's a lock on my dairy, but still. I don't mind her in my room as long as I'm in there. She just needs to stay out when I'm not home.

Day 36

August 5, 2008

Dear Diary, It's good to be back home, but I miss my Auntie Jackie. She said she'll come visit us for Christmas. I wish Christmas wasn't so far away. It's just so nice having another woman in the house. It makes me not miss my mom quite so much.

Day 35

July 30, 2008

Dear Diary, Today we went to the Baywalk mall. We parked in one of those parking garages. Well, first we forgot the token chip in the car when we were supposed to get it validated at the movie theater. Then we went all the way back to the car to get it. Finally we walked back over to the theater to get it validated. Well, somewhere between the Baywalk and the car we lost the token chip! So instead of paying like one dollar to park, they charged my dad twenty dollars for losing the chip. What a ripoff! He was mad at first, but then he laughed at how much trouble one little chip could cause.

Day 34

July 26, 2008

Dear Diary, April came over yesterday. I hadn't seen her since we came back from California. She said she really missed me. I missed her too. We ate popsicles and played in the sprinklers. It was fun. I wish we had a swimming pool, but at least the sprinklers cooled us off.

Day 33

July 23, 2008

Dear Diary, It really is good to be back home in Alabama. I missed my cat Tiger. Not too much going on these last few weeks before school starts. I have a huge stack of books I checked out from the library that I'm going to try to read before school starts. I love chapter books! Especially Judy Blume books.

Day 32

July 18, 2008

Dear Diary, The drive home is so much more boring. Dad says we should be home some time late tomorrow. Next time I wish we could fly on a plane. Then we'd be there already! At least I have my mp3 player to listen to music and of course my books to read. I love to read, but it's much harder to read in the car. After a while I have to take a break or I start to feel car sick.

Day 31

July 16, 2008

Dear Diary, It's gone by so fast. Our vacation in California is just about over. And we leave early tomorrow morning for the long drive back to Alabama. It's been fun seeing my old friends, but I'm going to miss Aunt Jackie and my cousins the most. At least when we get home I can see my cat Tiger again. I've missed him! My teacher has been taking care of him for me. I even called twice while we were gone just to check on Tiger. Mr. Monroe says he's been great.

Day 30

July 12, 2008

Dear Diary, I know we just got to California a week or so ago, but it already seems like we've been back forever. Today I got to see some of my old friends from school. Aunt Jackie invited them over for lunch. It felt like I'd never moved away. One friend, Dani asked if I was moving back. In some ways I wish we could because I have friends and family here. But I also love where we live in Alabama now. And I've made new friends there, like April.

Day 29

July 10, 2008

Dear Diary, My Aunt Jackie has the prettiest jewelry. I was in her bedroom and found this wooden case on her dresser. When I looked inside I saw these beautiful rings and necklaces. I decided to try a few on. Of course, that's when my Aunt walked in the room! She wasn't mad though. She said that the jewelry used to be my grandmother's, and that someday it would belong to my cousins, Maya and me. But not for a while.

Day 28

July 7, 2008

Dear Diary, What does "curiosity killed the cat" mean? My Aunt Jackie said that to me today when I was telling her about how we got our cat Tiger. I found him in a dumpster behind the school. I don't think she was talking about Tiger. I think she was talking about me, and my habit of getting into "trouble".

Day 27

July 3, 2008

Dear Diary, We made it! It was way too long of a drive, but we finally made it back to California. I think Dad was tired of Maya and I asking "Are we there yet?" We're staying with my Aunt Jackie. We get to stay with her for two whole weeks!

Day 26

July 1, 2008

Dear Diary, Right now we're passing through Texas on our way to California. Dad put us in the car when we were still asleep in the middle of the night. It was so dark that I went back to sleep again. When I woke up, we were already in Louisiana. We stopped and had breakfast at some diner by the interstate. There's not much to look at out the window right now, but I'm excited to get to California. Dad says we won't be there until late tomorrow night.

Day 25

June 30, 2008

Dear Diary, Tomorrow we're finally on our way back to California! I'm going to miss Tiger while we're gone. He's staying with my teacher Mr. Monroe. But Mr. Monroe said I can call anytime to check up on him. So instead of worrying about Tiger, I've been packing and getting excited to go back home. Or is it still my home, now that we live here in Alabama?

Day 24

June 26, 2008

Dear Diary, What a day! I went out onto our back porch with my cat Tiger to sit in the hammock and read my book. Well, when I was ready to come inside, the door was locked! I didn't realize it was a self-locking door. I knocked on the door, but nobody answered. My dad was upstairs giving Maya a bath. I guess he couldn't hear me knocking. I was out there quite a while. Or at least it seemed like a while to me! At least I had my book and Tiger to keep me company.

Day 23

June 24, 2008

Dear Diary, I miss going to our school library since there's no school right now. So this afternoon, my dad said he would take Maya and me to the public library downtown. I want to check out as many books as they'll let me. I love to read! Maybe I can check out enough to read on our trip back to California.

Day 22

June 23, 2008

Dear Diary, I think my dad is being unfair. April and I wanted to go to the mall. He asked what for, and when I said just to look around, he said no. He said I'm to young to be hanging out at the mall. Is that so wrong to want to hang out at the mall? Sometimes I think he's to strict.

Day 21

June 18, 2008

Dear Diary, Ouch! I hate going to the doctor and getting a check up. Okay, I don't hate it every year, just the times I have to get shots. I didn't cry or anything, but it stinks knowing that it's gonna hurt. Well, I guess at least I'm done for a few more years. At least that's what the nurse said. I hope she was right!

Day 20

June 16, 2008

Dear Diary, Yesterday for Father's Day, Maya and I made blueberry pancakes for Daddy as a surprise. I think they were a little bit burned, but he swears they were delicious. I like to have mine with a little sugar on top instead of syrup. Well, only a couple more weeks till we drive back to California. I think it will feel weird to go back home. If that really is called home anymore. But I will be glad to see our old friends and my Auntie.

Day 19

June 13, 2008

Dear Diary, Today is Friday the 13th. I'm not usually a superstitious person, but it is kind of spooky. I guess all these scarey things are supposed to happen today. I wonder who came up with that idea. My daddy says he broke his ankle once on a Friday the 13th when he was younger. Not sure if that was spooky or just bad luck.

Day 18

June 8, 2008

Dear Diary, Since we moved to Alabama my little sister Maya has a new habit. She likes to come into my room in the middle of the night and sleep on the floor. I think she's scared to sleep alone in her new room. At first I was mad that she would just come in with her blanket and pillow. But now, I think it's kind of sweet that she needs her big sister.

Day 17

June 4, 2008

Dear Diary, Finally, our butterflies came out of their chrysalis' today at school. The monarchs are so beautiful! After we watched the last one, we took the aquarium outside and let them go. At first the butterflies just stayed in the aquarium. They didn't know what to do, but eventually they flew away. Mr. Monroe says most monarchs only live about a month. Only a month! I hope they fly to my house so I can see them again.

Day 16

June 1, 2008

Dear Diary, Sometimes my dad has to bring work home on the weekends. I know he has to do it, but it stinks. That means my sister and I have to find something to do that's not noisey. I love to read my books, but then my sister bothers me because she's bored. She's not old enough to read by herself yet. At least Dad said if he gets his work done that we can all go to the park this afternoon.

Day 15

May 29, 2008

Dear Diary, My cat Tiger is the best! I can always count on him to be waiting for me when I get home from school. As soon as I open the door, there's Tiger, right by my feet meowing, and rubbing on my legs. Even while I'm writing in my diary, he's curled up next to me sleeping. He sure does a lot of sleeping! But even when Tiger's sleeping, if I scratch behind his ears, he'll start purring.

Day 14

May 27, 2008

Dear Diary, April came to help me in the library today. We whispered while we put the books back on the shelves. There was a bad thunderstorm outside. And April and I both jumped at the same time when a really loud one shook the windows in the library. Then we laughed at each other for being scared!

Day 13

May 24, 2008

Dear Diary, Guess what? My dad says we can go back to visit our friends in California this summer! We're going to drive all the way back. I would rather fly on a plane, but at least we get to go, right? My friends will be so surprised to see me. I think we'll have a lot of fun!

Day 12

May 20, 2008

Dear Diary, Today was my first day helping in the library after school. I had so much fun! The librarian let me shelve the books where they belong after using the scanner to check them in. I think I might like to work in a library when I grow up. My Dad says that at colleges the libraries are really really big. Maybe I would like to work in a college library.

Day 11

May 18, 2008

Dear Diary, April and I had so much fun at our sleepover last night. We stayed up late playing games and doing our hair. And my Dad made us the best blueberry pancakes for breakfast this morning. I feel tired today, but that's alright. I hope we get to do another sleepover soon!

Day 10

May 17, 2008

Dear Diary, My friend April is coming to sleepover my house tonight! It'll be my first sleepover since we moved here from California. We're going to watch movies and do each other's hair. Maybe we'll even stay up really really late and tell secrets and stuff. I better go clean up my room and get ready. April will be here after lunch.

Day 9

May 15, 2008

Dear Diary, I can't believe what happened today! My teacher, Mr. Monroe asked me if I would like to help the librarian afterschool for the next few weeks. You see, since school is almost over, the library will be busy collecting all the books and materials from the classrooms. I am so excited! It's not every day, just Tuesdays and Thursdays. I can't wait to get started!

Day 8

May 12, 2008

Dear Diary, School was fun today. We're learning about butterflies. Mr. Monroe put some caterpillars in an aquarium. We're going to watch them change into butterflies! He says it might take a few weeks. I think they're called monarchs.

Day 7

May 10, 2008

Dear Diary, I have no homework this weekend! I think I'm going to sit next to Tiger and read my books. He is very good at sitting still when I read. And he even likes me to read out loud to him. I wonder if he understands what I'm saying.

Day 6

May 9, 2008

Dear Diary, April and I are now best friends! I still miss my friends in California, but I'm making some new friends here. My dad says now that we're finished unpacking I can have a sleepover soon. I can't wait to invite April!

Day 5

April 9, 2008

Dear Diary, Uh Oh! For a school project, I have to make a whole book about myself. My teacher, Mr. Monroe, said it has to be 10 pages with 10 different things about myself. I guess I better get started, so bye!

Day 4

April 6, 2008

Dear Diary, Things are starting to look up for me! One girl asked me to eat lunch with her. I said, “Yes”, and I even traded my fruit salad for her potato chips. She loves fruit! Oh, and her name is April.

Day 3

April 3, 2008

Dear Diary, I just moved here from California because my dad got a promotion. I guess it’s okay, but it is not easy to make new friends. Since I am the new kid, people kind of stare at me a lot and look at my clothes and my shoes. I’m not sure what’s so interesting; I think I blend in pretty good with everyone else.

Day 2

March 31, 2008

Dear Diary, Today I had to take my cat Tiger to the vet to get his shots. He is so strange because he loves the vet! I guess he just enjoys being in a place where there are lots of animals around to meet. He was so good for the vet and didn’t even meow when he got his shots.

Day 1

March 28, 2008

Dear Diary, Um…Hi. This is my second diary. My first one was really babyish and this one is much nicer and it even has a lock. I am going to hide the key in my junk drawer so my sister can’t find it. She is always getting into everything of mine!
