Broke in Brooklyn

November 18, 2008

I have a huge problem! I am not one of the rich kids at school and everyone is just talking about all the cool stuff they are going to get for Christmas.  I never know what to say, because I know my parents can't afford such expensive gifts. Any suggestions? ~Carla

I would ignore the people because if they make fun of you than they are not really your friends.

think of yourself as an individual. If you were rich you be just like everyone else. Be who you really are.

Be yourself! Quit talking about that. Talk about what you're getting others for Christmas.

I would make gifts for my family if I were you. It's really fun and people like homemade gifts!!!!

I think if I were you I would just tell them that getting BIG gifts for x-mas isn't really what's important. Tell them that spending time with your family is more important than getting gifts. If they don't believe you and get upset or tease you, just ignore them. They can't tell you what to do.

Ok, number one rule here: don't lie!!! telling people you're getting a pony, a wii, and a limo (just examples) just makes matters worse. (Not accusing you of lying, but just saying here) If money is going to be tight, then just don't say anything. If people say "what are you going to get?" just say "i have no idea. my parents like to keep it a surprise." and when christmas is over, and people want to know what you got, just tell them! if they stick their nose up, let them. they don't even deserve their stuff if they are going to be snooty about it. I really hope this helps you!!!

I would tell them what you truly think what you are going to get for chrismas

I think you just have to feel confident in yourself. Whenever they talk about this stuff try yo stay out of the conversations. You should also just try telling you friends that you are not to rich, and if they are real friends they will understand and not talk about it to much when you are around. Don't worry you are probably not the only girl in your school who feel this way. Hang in there.
